The men in my family like to cook. . .they like to be given free reins in the kitchen. So during the weekends they cook. Women aren't allowed in the kitchen then. . .

Yes, we seem to be weird compared to other people
i like ur family!

3. girls within the age bracket of 16 - 19 do not know what they want in most cases . . . hence to be frank I am not really comfortable with all these nigerian footballers getting down with them. I am sure most of our papa eagles are olderr than i am, hence something which makes it more uncomfortable.
i agree. all these footballers are chasing girls not even 20.

Oh come on now guys. . .cut the guy some slack and give the dude the reaction he was expecting.

In case you don't know what the appropriate response is, i'll tell ya. . .

The guys in the house are supposed to be falling all over themselves, patting him on the back and telling him what a lucky bastard he is to have an uninhibited girl and the girls are supposed to be envious and wishing they could be that way.

Now everyone at the count of go. . . GO! Cheesy Cheesy

By the way i'm not calling the OP a bastard oh. Just using the term guys use to hail their friend when he's scored majorly in the sex dept.
grin

poster, u shouldn't have yelled. i think u should have smiled sweetly and lightly lift up her hand. whispered in her ear, "honey, wait for a few hours." i mean, God knows what husband and wife do. she was obviously just trying to be nice and get your attention.

'Out of sight, out of mind'!
it's true.

i'm a sucker for romantic ideals, but long distance isn't realistic.
the only way is to eventually close the distance.
i couldn't do it for long.

My problem with most Nigerian writers is the lack of imagination.

LiteratureRe: My Problems With Most Nigerian Writers by africhika(f): 4:26pm On Nov 16, 2009
i'm perturbed by these comments. undecided

i bet that all these comments are from folks in 9ja or UK.
i've notice that 9jas back home don't value their writers.

i was raised in the US.
9jas here in America continually praise the writers back home.

I personally do not see anything wrong with locking your hair. As for dada it does have a spiritual side to it for many nigerian dadas from maybe 30 or 49 years ago. The problem is not really the dreads which anybody knows comes from very nappy hair not being combed but what people do to these kids when they seem to turn into "dadas". A lot of those kids were believed to have powers and usually had incantations or diabolic things done to them to either get some of their powers or to kill the supposed powers. People I know who were Dada in the past always seem to have issues but I think it was a childhood of being mistreated or being called names. Who knows. I wanted to let me son's hair lock on its own but my mom almost had a heart attack
wow. so who was doing these things to these children? their parents? elders?

well, i'm 23. i cook a lot but very little 9ja food. i do love to cook and want to learn more 9ja food.

so u will only cook if she's sick/recovering from childbirth/special occasion? that's silly, honestly.
what is she's tired one day? she's not a machine.

even my dad cooks sometimes. it's called "being a considerate human being."

BO= body odor. i think

quote by outstrip:

You smell it when you hit the airport in Lagos and I used to go to a Nigerian church in Chicago which I will not name and one particular day I opened the door and was hit with the smell of overwhelming body odor. I don't think it is because they are dirty because if anything Africans take more showers than the average American. The body odor comes from sweating like everybody else but not using deodorant.
hmmmm,  so it's just a musty smell?

when i was very young, i remember hearing AAs say that whites smell like "wet dogs."  lipsrsealed

FashionRe: Women With Locks, Braids by africhika(f): 2:55am On Nov 16, 2009
i've had sisterlocks for 1 yr now. best hair decision i've ever made. if ur still thinking about it- do it. all the time ur wasting thinking about it is the time that ur hair could be growing very long.

well, for me. having locks in my hair weeds out 75% of guys. some LOVE it. most don't. but it's cool. my hair is like a filter. only real men pass through cool
CultureDada: What Have You Heard? by africhika(op): 2:35am On Nov 16, 2009
hi everyone.  what are some of the cultural stories you've heard to explain locked hair?

i've always loved locked hair. i know many see it as something mystical. i wasn't raised in naija. when my grandma came to visit and heard me listening to a bob marley album one day, she said, "off dat dada man music!"

that was my first time hearing the word 'dada.'  And i still don't understand it. later, my mom said yorubas use that word. she said it's something about demons locking a baby's hair and the child has to have a ritual ceremony to get it cut off.

my kenyan friend said locked hair is good luck or something and should never be cut off if its grown from childhood.  i'm curious to know the other cultural myths about locks.
