Godemcee:It's no big deal, the fact that APC at least has one senator from Rivers state is enough consolation. |
Nice. I would advise the Niger Delta Destroyers to cease their destructive activities and let the forex reserve grow. The high inflation is mainly caused by non availability of forex for imports. And everybody is feeling the impact, them inclusive. |
Make I pitch here |
See the tiny beams. It's not that hard to see that the beams are not strong enough to bear the superstructure of the roof. There should be strong consequences for these kind of accidents otherwise we'll continue seeing such. |
Sabergol99:The man is a core professional. He doesn't talk too much. |
Thank you sir for the clarification. A new trend is being deployed by enemies of state. They will release a fake information to the social media space, when govt comes out to set the records straight, the dimnits will then be shouting up and down that govt is engaging in denials. |
I just love this man. So simple and humble. God bless you Prof. |
Firefire:Which town has book haram taken over in recent times? Ngene's statement is apt. Any Commander in Chief that losses territory senselessly the way it happened under the ineffective one deserves an impeachment. |
MyGeneration:So given the history of how volatile is during elections, the place should not be flooded with security men right? |
Presidiotbuhari:Which fake good legacy? Why do we like deceiving ourselves in this country? *Legacy of 16 is greater than 19 in governor's forum. *Legacy of compromised military in Ekiti and diversion of security funds from NSA to Ekiti. Including intimidation and detain of opposition leaders. *Legacy of 6 Honourables trying to impeach Amaechi over 15 others. *Legacy of masked DSS operatives in Osun election. And intimidation and harassment of opposition. *Legacy of war like election in Rivers, Akwa-Ibom and Delta in 2015 and return of unimaginable 90% registered voters. Be aware that since GEJ left, hardly have we recorded as much as 50% turnout in any election. |
Pavore9:Ignorance is a disease. See the way you are gallantly displaying lack of depth to the public. A little Google search would have made you more knowledgeable on the subject matter, yet you with little or no information is expressing bafflement at others more informed than you. Wonders indeed will never end. Smh |
Aufbauh:Apt! |
mamabomboy:An invitation for GEJ to take charge and chart a course for the party is not to say he should come and contest. You want to push him into making another flop. It is not only by contesting that one can be a leader. He is better off as an elder statesman making things happen behind the scene. |
Smart intelligent dude. Very cool headed. We need more of these kinds of politicians from Rivers state and not loud mouthed touts. |
Chrisbriss:Where is your evidence of Amaechi stealing ballot boxes?? Better show us or go to a corner and take your sanity drugs. Nonsense. |
Chrisbriss:You are sounding like a mentally unstable person. Amaechi's utterances are in response to similar statements by Wike. If you want the criticism to be balanced, it must also include Wike. If it was PMB that orchestrated the non-swearing in of opposition senators/reps for months, I can imagine how loud and reaching to the high heavens cries of "dictator! We are back to 1984! Buhari had destroyed democracy!" But because it is being carried out by the PDP in Rivers state, folks like you will turn a blind eye to that. |
I sincerely don't understand why GEJ is reluctant in stepping in and resolving PDP issues. All the actors respect him and I'm sure they will listen to him. PDP is having these challenges basically because of the absence of a true leader that they can all differ to. He should step in and drop this "I don't care attitude." It was also this attitude that set the stage for his eventual loss of the Presidency before he could realize it. |
Take charge of PDP now, lawmaker tells Jonathan A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Lagos state, Victor Akande, has urged former President Goodluck Jonathan to take leadership position in the party to stem crisis rocking the party. Mr. Akande, who is also a lawmaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos on Sunday. Mr. Akande, also legal practitioner, said, “It is a pity my party, PDP has not got its house together and it has not really harmonised all problems in order to forge ahead. “Things have fallen apart, the centre cannot hold. “There is only one solution to our problems and the solution is that, former president Goodluck Jonathan should come out of his cocoon and put the party aright. “If Jonathan has come forth to lead the party in the right perspective, and take over the mantle of leadership, our story would have been different by now,’’ he said. According to him, by the virtue of PDP constitution, the former president is supposed to be the Chairman, PDP Board of Trustees which is the highest decision-making body of the party. Mr. Akande, who is also the Chairman, Lagos House Committee of Central Business District, said that every member was clamouring for power in the party because there was no one to lead the party. “Anywhere there is no leadership, anarchy and struggle for leadership, as it is bedevilling the party, will be the situation. “I challenge President Jonathan to come forward and give the direction. Everybody will fall in line. “Having risen to the peak on the platform of the party, he has the responsibility to nurture the party and prevent it from dying. “There are some cabals who are hell bent on killing the party, only Jonathan can make the party survive. “If we don’t want people to decamp again from the party, there must be somebody to give a sense of direction. A commander cannot sit back and be commanding. “Someone who has benefitted from the party cannot allow that party to die. He must come forward, I am challenging him.” Akande, who said that the crises in the party were not unexpected, however, said that ‘’PDP is learning through the rope.” He said that the poor performances of the party in recent elections after defeat in 2015 general election were by-products of lack of leadership. The lawmaker, however, expressed optimism that the party would come out strong from its present predicaments. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/more-news/217666-take-charge-pdp-now-lawmaker-tells-jonathan.html |
iokpebholo:If you have evidence of rigging please take it to the courts. The law has no place for 'taking the laws into your hands'. Our courts have been strengthened to discharge cases faster than what obtains previously. It was just the same way dissatisfied APC members went to court to have this particular election nullified. |
tit:Meaning? Don't you think Akinwunmi Adesina will make a good president? |
criminalmindz:This time around, it may lead to the house to be under lock and key. Impunity can never be in perpetuity. |
TippyTop:Though PDP is the dominant party in Rivers state generally, but APC has its areas of strength due to some of its popular members. |
oloyesaso:Please let them know abeg, they think governance is beans. |
Kemi is really trying her best in this terrible situation we find ourselves. I don't know why some Nairaland folks hate her so much. 2 trillion naira contracts awarded by the GEj regime, but their 2015 works budget was just about 25billion naira. And people are still not appreciating Kemi for this intelligent move. May God help this country, it's filled with hypocrites. Mynd44, OAM4J, |
FG gives conditions to pay N2.2tn contractors’ debts Federal Government has said that the conversion of its financial statement from the cash accounting to the international Public Sector Accounting Standards have resulted into an unrecorded liability of N2.2tn to contractors. Those owed the huge amount are contractors such as oil marketers, exporters, electricity distribution companies and others. The Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, stated this while at the annual dinner of the Lagos Business School in Lagos. She said the liabilities would be addressed with a ten year Promissory Note Issuance programme in conjunction with the Central Bank of Nigeria. The measure, she noted, would be subjected to a rigorous audit process of all claims to ensure validity and mitigate against fraud and the impact of past corrupt practices. Adeosun who represented the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, at the event, warned that henceforth, measures would be put in place to prevent recurrence of such a problem. This, according to her, would be achieved by ensuring that contracts are managed in a manner that firms have assurance over when they would be paid. She cited the fact that many contractors were owed because many of those recently paid by Government were slow in mobilising to site. She said, “Some contractors had not been paid in the past four years and in some cases the banks they owed refused them access to the funds released, causing delays.” She explained further that those receiving the Promissory Notes would be expected to provide a material discount to government. The issuance, she noted, would be a solution to a long term problem that was a drag on economic activity. She emphasised the role of infrastructure in creating inclusive growth, stating that the drivers of inflation were structural and were being addressed through the focus on power, rail and road infrastructure. The minister lamented that the existing provision that enables companies to claim relief for road projects had only been taken advantage of by two companies, Lafarge and Dangote Cement. This, according to her, was because few companies were large enough to fund roads alone. She said the revision would now allow collective tax relief such that companies would be able to jointly fund roads, subject to approval by Federal Inland Revenue Service and the Ministry of Works, and share the tax credit. This would be particularly attractive to firms in clusters such as industrial estates, many of which are plagued by poor road conditions. The minister also at the event outlined fiscal strategies to reposition the country’s economy in the 2017 fiscal period and return it to the path of sustainable growth. She stated that the fiscal policies and actions to be adopted by the government to tackle the key barriers to growth would drive productivity and generate employment for the people. A statement from her Media Adviser on Saturday stated that the minister said the plan would help improve cash flow of businesses, improve bank’s Non-Performing Loans, free up banks’ balance sheet for lending to private sector and improve government’s business interaction with the private sector. The strategies according to her would also encourage and incentivize non-oil exports and drive import substitution as well as investment in strategic sectors Part of the strategies according to the minister would accelerate recovery process for recovered assets by putting in place a whistle-blower scheme, centralized database on recovered assets and professional management of recovered assets. Adeosun added that the government would catalyze Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise growth through specific measures to improve capacity and access to finance by securing $1.3bn from Development Bank of Nigeria and provision of tax incentives. The minister also unveiled plans to restructure the Export Expansion Grant to a tax credit system and rationalize tariffs and waivers in key export sectors. Ban: Vehicle importers seek extension of deadline Following the directive from the Federal Government banning importation of vehicles through the land borders with effect from January 2017, importers have been making desperate moves to clear their vehicles from Cotonou, Republic of Benin before the December 31 deadline. Some vehicle importers who spoke to our correspondent said the time given to them to clear their cars was too short and pleaded with the government to consider extending the deadline by at least another 90 days. A clearing agent based in Seme border who spoke to our correspondent on Wednesday said importers had bombarded her office, desperately trying to clear all their vehicles. According to a car dealer, Nnamdi Obi, the ban has placed a very big burden on importers, saying, “There are people who already have vehicles in Cotonou and are running around looking for money to clear them. “Many of them are finding it difficult to raise money to clear their vehicles because of the recession in the country. Those who approach friends are asked to wait until January. “There are equally those who have ordered for vehicles from Dubai and it takes 45 days for vessels to sail from Dubai to Cotonou. They have been taken unawares by the sudden order.” Obi said there were over 2,000 vehicles in Cotonou, waiting to be cleared and twice the amount being expected from Dubai and other places. He said, “A cycle of trading is 90 days; the government should consider giving the importers 90 days so they can clear their vehicles.” Meanwhile, a Labanese who sells vehicles in Cotonou said he and his fellow dealers would be relocating to either Ghana or any other African country because of the ban. “We have customers from Niger, Chad and Togo but majority of our customers are from Nigeria. Because of the ban order, we will all be leaving Cotonou by December.” The dealer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that some of his customers had bought vehicles on hire purchase, adding that some of them had not finished payment. He said, for those who had completed payment, they had left the vehicles in the dealers’ custody having been unable to take the vehicles to Nigeria because of the high duty charged by the Nigerian government. Obi said the reason why importers brought their cars through Cotonou was because of the bureaucracy and exorbitant charges at the Nigerian seaports. “The government also needs to upgrade and expand the port facilities. For instance, if a man lives in Calabar, he will not need to come to Lagos to clear his car if the port facilities in Calabar were functioning,” he said. Copyright PUNCH. All rights reserved.
