Hawk uses the Thales Optronics Vicon 18-601E

And in anycase, Gripen can perform ISTAR for the Hawks who can deliver the stand off munitions from 150km away
Gripen radar tracking range for ground targets is only about 60km

Gripen jet uses BVR missiles but your half baked SAAF Gripen does NOT have it.

Same way SAAF did not buy ANY SINGLE Hawk jet targeting pod, sharaaap liar !!!!

SAAF Hawk jets have NO targeting pods, they use ordinary FLIR same as NAF Mi-35M Hind helicopters

We do not need satellites to spy we have well trained special forces who specialise in espionage and photography who can even do the excellent job than satellites. In addition, we have drones which can do the job even better.

Meanwhile, SA has satellites which they use for various technological projects and operations ranging from weather broadcast to space technology other than for spying. However, I will do some research to find out if Nigeria has a spy satellite.
Your SA special forces men can see a ship in Angolan deep ocean 300km offshore while sitting in their army barracks in Soweto?

Show me a South African satellite working today 2014, an earth observation settelite used by SANDF.....show me !

Not all old equipment in SANDF are working any longer, the air refuelling capacity you had for Gripens is now dead

We are the pride of the lion. The lion always win and that's what we have achieved with only few casualties in comparison to almost 800 dead rebels.
No Seleka source from independent news medium counted and reported Seleka casualties.....SANDF did not stay to see the end of battle and be counting dead Seleka....ran to the airport, beg France's army for protection, borrowed French army phone to call Pretoria for PERMANENT withdrawal, boarded next available flight back home, refused to come back and fight again, abandoned poor civilians to be massacred by Seleka, dumped a fellow African nation in her biggest time of trouble, couldn't take the risks Nigerian army took in Liberia and Sierra Leone....the people of Central African Republic will NEVER forget the betrayal and wickedness plus cowardice of South Africa in their history.

Shame on you SANDF, shame on you South Africa !

60% of all gripen maintance is done by denel only the major jobs are done by SAAB.

12 is still more than 11

We have at least 18 trained crews. Probaly more now since more join them each year.

How many times have you had to ground you air craft, who had to go get out side help to maintain there fighters. Fact is a F7 needs maintance. No country can run there air force at 100%, zero zip nada.

Wrong, that is only for military forces that have only one single satellite.

Nigerian army, navy and air force have 3 satellites including the new advanced radar satellite, means you have few hours interval to almost cover the whole earth in a 24 hour day, you are almost round the meal time observation, breakfast lunch, dinner times.

Satellites are bad you say, only because SANDF and South African backward nation have NO SINGLE SATELLITE tongue tongue

You have 11 F7, but there is between zero and none that all 11 are operational, since there is this thing called maintenance.
F-7 is like 3 times cheaper to maintain than Gripen.

It is SAAF that has reported failure of maintenance due to lack of funds, NAF never complained about F-7 maintenance, we do it at home with NAF engineers, SAAF needs to always pay SAAB engineers from Sweden, reason why only 12 Gripens are flying and with only 8 pilots qualified for combat . grin grin

Proove SA solders are sex maniacs.
"
In mid-July, Akhona Geveza, a young South African woman who was participating as a cadet in the Transnet National Ports Authority’s Maritime Studies Programme, was found dead, floating overboard. Only a few hours before she died, a report was made to the shipmaster that Geveza had been R.aped by a senior official.

The article in the Sunday Times, 18 July 2010, makes mention of several cases of s.exual abuse against young cadets who claim, ‘systematic abuse of power by senior officers’. Among the allegations made by South Africa’s Sunday Times newspaper are that:

• Two male cadets were R.aped by senior officials while at sea;
• A female cadet terminated two pregnancies that followed her R.ape at sea;
• Three female trainees were pregnant at the end of their 12-month training stint;
• A male cadet was sent home a month before finishing his programme because he refused to have s.ex with a senior official; and
• A female cadet has a child with a married South African Maritime Safety Agency executive after he forced himself on her and threatened to cancel her contract if she told anyone."

Really? like the Cubans and Angolans did not have any of those? And a rang of SAMs, Fighter jets and a extensive radar coverage. And what AAA does does BH, what have your NAF pilots had to fight.

Satlites are good, but they not the be all end all you think they are. And SA is buying a really Spy sate, not some commercial off the shelf sat Nigeria has.

Really, you do know that you only need to place it in the right locations and then the range is 500km again

you mean 18 to 30km away and they will be pounce on by longer ranged guns and wiped out long before you guns can do any thing, while your presses ATR will be shot down by gripens.
I mean 18km to 40km, Nigerian artillery numbers and range beats South Africa.

Gripens will be too far away to h.it ATR-42, with our 330km range radar, we see your army far away, but with 25km range missiles, Gripen cannot hit ATR-42 out of range and operation from far behind Nigerian lines, while F-7 NI with PL-9C missiles intercept any Gripen that wants to take a risk and die.

Yes Cuba has ZSU-23-4 Shilka, reason why SADF was avoiding flying close support combat sorties, your air force was half asleep during the Angolan war for fear of MiG-23 and ZSU-23 guns and SA-2 missile air defenses.

Yeah cuba had no war experience other than a civil war, a US funded invasion and supporting commie rebels across the world. And you do know most of the SA solders where teenage conscripts to.
stop telling lies mister !

Cuba had no war experience like Lesotho, the Cuban revolution of 1950s old times was a few hundred men with rifles overthrowing a bad government. The teenage Cuban girls that defeated South African army were not even born in 1950 era.

Bay of Pigs was a US cash funded coup plotters invasion of about 200 men trying to overthrow government of Cuba in about 72 hour kind of coup, NO SINGLE USA soldier entered Cuba.

South African army had mature men in SADF and UNITA with a lot of experience of war in Namibia. Remember your boasting about SADF war experience from World War II to Korean war.

Cuban teenage girl soldiers knew nothing about war until they used South Africa as their first war and first victory

shows just how miss informed you are.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GLONASS

Satlites are some of the worst means since they only spend a brief time over there target area. They useless in tactical needs.

Sure they can, if the satlite is over that area at that time of day meaning the rest of the area is not being watched and rember SA has satlite tracking stations. So we will know where the blind spots are.

And that information is useless, why do you think GPS is used against static targets, I will give you a hint, it the word static.

SAAF Hawks where integrated with the same pods used on the cheeta C.

Other than or range of mobil radars. Any case your ATRs have no means to prosecute targets and there comms can be jammed making them useless. They can see but that is all, And using that radar gives away there position to.

And your point is what? could any of those guys deploy weapons to shoot back at the alpha jets?

And NAF spends there days shooting at pic up trucks where SAAF spends there time training to fight a war vs a actual threat.

Nope, NAF was the one fighting with Alpha jets against real targets that can retaliate, Liberian, Sierra Leonean, and Boko Haram deadly ZSU-23-4 four barrelled anti-aircraft artillery.

SAAF Hawk jets have NEVER seen battle since 8 years ago you bought them, all your pilots do is attack stones and sand in the name of training, why don't you send SAAF to attack rebels that have air defense artillery 23mm caliber in close range air support in a mixed up battle space where infantry and armoured vehicles of both sides are interlocked in hand to hand combat?

Satellites are not good only because South Africa has none. What would you guys say if it was the other way round and South Africa has satellites and Nigeria has none? What would you say then? You would say SANDF = NATO + USA + EU + RUSSIA

Your ground radar range is useless beyond 20 km because of obstructions, ground clutter, false-wrong targets, buildings, civilian vehicles, industrial structures, etc.

ATR-42 of NAF will detect SANDF ground radar and all army equipment 330km away, then NAF will give your positions to NA and we pounce on SANDF with 660 artillery guns 18km to 42km away and with your army will regret the day they were born by their mothers

Seleka rebels that though both out numbered us and out gunned us suffered heavy losses.

Rhino poachers are still mostly a SANPARK issue, SANDF only helps out. Either way we still kill and capture hundreds of poachers and we still have more rhinos than the entire world combined.

Not one act of piracy in Angolan waters since our deployment.

Cuba sent there best solders and the USSR spent more money there than in Astan.
Cuban army has no good soldiers, they used teenage conscripts to defeat South Africa, Cuba had ZERO war experience until they met SADF and used your country to make history.

Nigerian navy is the force controlling Angolan waters with our super long range radars, satellite, and OPVs.

South African navy is waiting till 2015 hoping and dreaming to use Frigates as OPV and ruin the engines with over-work while abandoning South Africa's 3,500 km long coastline.

SANDF is still afraid of Seleka till today

Targeting pod.
I see one Hawk, one Gripen, one thing that looks like a targeting pod....for the Gripen, unless you can prove SAAF imported Hawk compatible targeting pods because the ones for Gripen cannot work with the Hawk due to software incompatibility.

Talk about changing the subject.

Easy, by using passive systems.

They don't need to be behind the enemy line, our mobile radar can still cover hundreds KM behind enemy line while being behind our own.

All GPS is run by the USAF, no matter what country, even that garmin you bought uses USAF. By the point is Moot, we use INS to, in fact GPS is a bad idea since EW can effect it.

Actually the hawks do have targeting pods.

Sorry, they have far better systems than your 2 MPAs

Yes you can, SA hit many a moving target in the 1970s and 1980s with out radar, IR or any thing.

Data link is for sending data, including targeting data. Aka here is a target for you to shoot.

Why NATO?
Tell me lies that Russia and China depend on America for satellite positioning.

Satellite is the only global means of identifying a targets accurate position, South Africa has NO satellite, Nigeria has 3 Satelites so our military is strategically more powerful than your blind bat SANDF that cannot see beyond it's nose.

Nigerian army can see Jacob Zuma undressed in his swimming pool grin

Satellite gives you the true and sustainable position tracking of a target.

No source to prove SAAF Hawks have the compatible targeting pods because not any pod can work on any aircraft.

Nigerian NAF ATR-42 can radar lock-on multiple dozens of targets 330 km away at the same time, SAAF cannot and CANNOT do that.

NAF Alpha jets have been targeting fast moving enemy vehicles since 20 years ago till today.

SAAF is asleep at home for the past 20 years with ZERO modern day combat experience

LOL...F-7NI cannot fire missiles? Why did NAF buy the great and powerful PL-9C missiles and armed the F-7NI ? LOL grin grin

LOL....NAF F-7NI have equal capacity missiles with your over-priced Gripens, how unfortunate for you grin grin

Even NAF Alpha jets, MBB 339 jets and L-39 jets combine a total of over 40 jets, more than enough to wipe out the SAAF's 24 Hawk jets before your pilots launch anything called weapons grin grin
