Take it easy. NAF fighter Jet went missing in Adamawa state, not borno state.

Wait till there is confirmation. The Helicopter Pilot who died in Bama, was duly honoured, and given a proper military burial, like any other military personnel who has died in service.

Medals and promotions have also been awarded to personnel at Hospital beds, burial and award ceremonies.
Matter already dealt with...

rka1:
"Nigeria's military has dismissed claims that a man beheaded by Boko Haram fighters in the group's latest video was an air force pilot in a fighter jet that went missing three weeks ago.

Spokesman Air Commodore Dele Alonge, asked whether the man was an air force pilot, said: 'The man shown in the Boko Haram video is not our officer.

'The picture of a man beheaded in the video is superimposed,' he said.

'Our plane is still missing and we are looking for it. Boko Haram is just making unfounded claims."

Mixed New Weapons & Equipment Keep Arriving For Nigerian Army...

[/size]
.

Minister of Finance Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala yesterday said the federal government has acquired new military hardware to confront insurgency in the North-East. Speaking in an interview with journalists shortly after presenting relief materials to victims of Boko Haram attacks at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Girei, Adamawa State, the minister said new military equipment purchased by the government had arrived the country.

Thanks for the post DieVluit

We now know that the "missing" jet was gunned down by BH. RIP to the pilots.
When did Twitter tweets by an UNKNOWN INDIVIDUAL become a valid source of military information?

Was that tweeter guy inside the Alpha jet or inside the Boko Haram camp to give detailed crash reports?

How did this twitter poster guy count exactly 63 Boko men dead in the Alpha jet suicide crash? Was he in the Boko Haram camp to count dead bodies?

I could tweet my friends with long story of how 50 SANDF got killed by Seleka.

Then I cam tweet about how Rhino Poachers used Machine guns to sh.oot down that very South African air force helicopter that crashed inside Kruger Park last year 2013......then everybody has to believe my tweets because I say so grin grin grin

Also I could tweet about how NAF has secretly received 100 Su-30 Flanker jets from India and claim I saw them.

Tell your tweeter that the NAF Alpha jet was declared as being on ROUTINE RECCE mission and NOT called in combat mission right from day one when it was missing.

Should we all start to bring our own personal Facebook and Twitter posts to this forum as military sources? grin grin grin

The missing Alpha jet was lost in Adamawa state, the tweeter report says the pilot confirmed his Alpha jet crashed in Borno state... grin grin grin

NaijaPikinGidi: South Africans ... they badmouth China yet they cannot do without the very same China. They badmouth France, yet almost everything "energy" in South Africa is French. They badmouth the Russians yet fail to do without Russian assistance to build Nuclear plant. Yet, when these countries complete each project ... they are quick to falsely own the finished work and call it 100% South African.

======
[...]

Although the government does not officially use the phrase “geopolitical decision-making”, various insiders say that is the key to understanding the nuclear process. South Africa is intent on cementing partnerships with the Brics (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) countries; it has previously favoured Brazil for the mass roll-out of set-top boxes to make current television sets capable of handling digital broadcasts after the switch-over from analogue (although that deal went sour). Russia appears to be favoured for the nuclear build, and some say China can expect the lion’s share of the riches expected from shale gas extraction by fracking in the Karoo.

Two ANC MPs who are senior party leaders said the same way the Russia deal was pre-agreed by political heads, South Africa has already entered into an agreement with China over shale gas. “We can’t be seen buying things from the West,” the one said, and the other pointed out that the ANC is loyal to those countries that supported it during the struggle.

We moving our troops closer to you and there is nothing you will ever do besides blowing off steam.
You already came twice, what did you do? You ran away on both occassions. First 2011 South African navy sailed SAS Drakensberg with combat helicopters and special forces to Ivory Coast while NAF jets were in Abidjan, we used one phone call to scare your big warship away in one day grin

Second time South African army came to C.A.R. Bangui just beside Cameroon Nigeria's immediate neighbour, how did it end? Your fancy uniform army got bruised battered and chased to the nearest airport to catch the next available flight back home.

Third time is next year, if you have enough diesel by then, we will hear another funny story again about why you fail on military mission. Born nation of cowards grin

patches689: DefenceWeb sets the record straight

Nigeria will in the future take delivery of a number of new helicopters from Russia after concluding a deal with the country in August. Sergei Goreslavsky, a deputy director general at Rostec, told ITAR-TASS that the contract involves “a significant number of Mi-171Sh helicopters and several Mi-35M helicopters.” Rosoboronexport, which sells Russia’s military equipment overseas, falls under Rostec.

In April this year the Nigerian Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Adesola Amosu announced that new fighters and helicopters would be acquired for the Air Force. The Nigerian Budget Office has allocated funding for six Mi-35Ms this year. The Nigerian Air Force currently flies around eight of the type. Nigerian media report that the Air Force has ordered 40 helicopters from the United States and Russia but did not specify which models.

Lol, a "significant"number of your 40 helos are just normal transports grin grin
Unfortunately for you, the Mi-171Sh is an armed helicopter for combat and troop transport, with more weapon stations than the Mi-35M Hind, ALL the 40 Nigerian helicopters ordered are combat-attack-transport, sorry Fool, you lose again...

Hamilton Class is a gun-boat

Simple

And proof please about your magical radar

And that magical radar did not stop you from CRASHING one of your Hamilton class cutters into another ship.

Patchesagain: Prove it.
My pleasure...

"The Hamilton class cutter was the largest class of vessel in the United States Coast Guard until replaced by the National Security Cutter, aside from the Polar Ice Breakers. The hull classification symbol is prefixed WHEC. The cutters are called "Hamilton class" after their lead ship, or "Secretary class" because most of them were named for former Secretaries of the Treasury (with the exception of "Hero Class cutters" Jarvis, Munro and Midgett,). They are powered by a CODOG (Combined Diesel or Gas) system consisting of two diesel engines and two gas turbines, and have controllable pitch propellers. Equipped with a helicopter flight deck, retractable hangar, and the facilities to support helicopter deployment, these 12 cutters were introduced to the Coast Guard inventory in the 1960s. Beginning in the 1980s and ending in 1992, the entire class was modernized through the Fleet Rehabilitation and Modernization (FRAM) program."

Valour frigate radar range 180km

patches689: Drakensberg has a 8000 mile range, that is lagos and back with 1000 miles to spare.

Distance from Cape Town to Lagos: 2955.28

So, your first sentance is complete B.S

When operating as a supply vessel, the Drakensberg does not need to stick with the Frigates, it will operate as a "mother ship" sailing as economically as possible to conserve fuel, and the Valour Class will return to her for replenishment. That is just basic common sense.

The Drakensberg carries 5 500 tonnes of fuel for replenishment - separate from her own fuel tanks
http://www.navy.mil.za/vtour/drakensberg/specs.htm

So she can resupply and still keep that 8000 mile range

So again, I am not quite sure of what your point is - unless it is making a fool of yourself.
Some frigates single tank alone needs 4,000 tonnes of fuel !!!! You think your 5,500 tonnes extra tank in Drakensberg is an oil refinery ?

How many tonnes of fuel refills the tank of a valour frigate? Also how many tonnes of fuel refills the tank of the Drakensberb herself ?

And 200km is a long way buddy.

How do we catch a pirate 500km away, simple, we cruise towards them and when within 200km we deploy air assets. How do you think?

SO again, what is your point?

Patchesagain: First, you have no data-link to guide those guns, so no.

Second, you have no precision munitions to engage the Valour Class with at that hight, so no.

Third, Nigerians in South Africa dont stand a chance - we have gotten very good at killing them. So no.

And chances are, that your government will be all too happy to allow us into your waters.

And the death blow: International Shipping Lanes are in International waters
First you do NOT need data-link to guide artillery, how did coastal artillery work in World War II when data-link did not exist?

Artillery is guided by gunner calculated Azimuth co-ordinates NOT data-link, please go join a police thread, ignorance is a disease !

Second, carpet bombing is NOT done by precision guidance munitions, it is done by massive carpet spread over a point target by unguided free fall bombs. Your frigates are sitting ducks 5,000 km away from home with ZERO air cover ! You made a wrong voyage !

Third, 250,000 Nigerians is a equal to 300 Battalions of men with AK-47 rifles, you will have 1,000 times more trouble than you had with poachers you could not defeat in Kruger park.

International shipping route as I said, will mean you do not chase pirates that hijack ships and veer off the patrol routes, you just proved that you will never find or catch any pirates, you have no satellite, no MPA aircraft, and your best radar is only 180km range, so you will NEVER find or catch any pirate that is 200km away from your ship, and some pirates will surely be 500km away heading for Europe or South America !

You will just waste the fuel you are already short of in your country, South African navy will enter Guiness Book Of Records as the greatest Oliver Twist of Africa, begging for diesel in every sea port they find along their thirsty voyage grin grin

South Africa has ZERO experience of wide area anti-piracy operations !

patches689: You see, we can have 4 frigates and 3 subs sitting off your coast - can you say the same?
No warship can survive 22km away from Nigerian coast, over 600 artillery guns guided by 50km range full coverage coastal TV cameras and 500km range coastal radars.....Nigerian coast in the most difficult to penetrate in Africa, any Navy on Nigeria's official 22km territorial waters will be mercilessly pounded with shelling to sea bottom in one day.

Within Nigeria's 350km EEZ waters, your frigates also have to be ready for massive carpet bombing by 30 NAF jets at 12km altitude, every day till they sink down to meet mammy water where shark will eat your sailors.

If ALL your 4 frigates and 3 submarines are sitting on Nigerian coast, the the 3,200 km long South African coastline is open for invasion at a surprise location at night, we also have 250,000 Nigerians in South Africa living there, all we need is to give them one AK-47 rifle each and we turn your country into Somalia !

patches689: Why is this guy still arguing?

The valour class can sail all the way to Lagos and patrol for 1000miles and then sail home all on one tank of gas

Pirate interceptions will be done with helicopters

Valour class can be refueled by the Drakensberg if need be

This guy, he thinks his opinion can change the facts of the matter

Also - you don't have 12 frigate sized ships
Also- at the end he admits that the Nigerian Navy cannot match the SAN in terms of naval warfare

Augubug and his delusions of grandeur
Naval warfare, I will wait till Aradu completes refit, and NNS Centenary arrives, plus the new combat warship from Chinese navy.
Every navy in this world has it's time of re-armament, all South African navy warships were obsolete as at year 2005 until Valour frigate arrived 2006.

Yes again naval warfare? Where is the missile and submarine naval warfare going on if Africa today? The real naval warfare today is anti-piracy operations, South Africa has just realized that, so you decided to join our club after your missiles and submarines had no work to do since almost 10 years ago you bought them.

Anti-piracy is the real threat and according to your sources, South Africa is now feeling threatened because Angola is being attacked by pirates in your backyard. This is a war the mighty Nigerian navy has been fighting for over 10 years now and we are the masters of the game in Africa, no other navy comes close, not even Egypt.....welcome to our world where we have the perfect equipment and perfect experience, South African navy is the new baby that needs to learn how to walk now grin grin

Nope, helicopters are NOT maritime ocean interceptors, they are only for airborne insertion of troops when you catch the pirate.

Range of the Super Lynx on your frigate is only about 528 km, when you carry troops load, the range reduces by payload, then your helicopter needs fuel to return to your ship or it will drop dead into the sea with empty fuel tank. Means your helicopter cannot chase pirate beyond 200km range away from your ship landing pad ! How do you catch a pirate Angola informs you to be 500km away from where your frigate is ? Or you think pirates sail beside your ship so that when you need them you can catch them?

Drakensberg itself has only 15,000 km range and needs 10,000 km minimum to travel from Cape Town to Lagos, it must NOT leave that straight line route or else it will lose more fuel by trying to stay close to your frigates that are patrolling around in circles, you don't do maritime patrol in a straight line like your police do on the streets of Soweto, the sea is a massive area of 5 million square kilometers from Namibia to West Africa !

Drakensberg is pumping fuel to your frigate, she herself has to stay at sea for many days to give support, she needs fuel too and she will be pumping from storage tank to feed herself, how much fuel is in that supply tank? Does your Drakensberg ship carry an Oil Refinery on board? Give us details, I have given details of range of Nigerian ships and fast crafts, tell us how much fuel is in the 'Unlimited Oil Refinery' that you carry on your Drakensberg supply ship, facts and figures please grin grin

South African navy will regularly beg for diesel, not only in Angola, but also in Ghana and Nigeria !!

Nigeria has about 12 Frigate/Corvette sized ships that is what I said, not only frigates, buy corvette sized ships too, some ordered or received already. We saw the Corvette sizers in this years Exercise Obaganme sailing with Chinese navy in Lagos operations. Here is a list of 17 ships, not gunboats, I mean SHIPS !

NNS Thunder
NNS Okpabana
NNS Centenary I
NNS Centenary II
NNS Siri
NNS Ohue
NNS Erinomi
NNS Ekun
NNS Barama
NNS Anyam
NNS Damisa
NNS Ekpe
NNS Kyanwa
NNS Ologbo
NNS Nwamba
NNS Obula

I left out NNS Aradu until her refit is completed this year. That will be number 18 ship.

Nigeria has cloud penetrating satellites and long range ATR-42 Surveyors that can see the whole Gulf Of Guinea in 45 minutes, and NNS Thunder and NNS Okpabana have sea search radars with surveillance range of 500km. The radar on Valour frigate is only about 180km range, so how will you ever locate a pirate that Angola or Namibia radios to you to be 400km away from your shiny Valour frigate now turned into OPV overnight ?

Nigerian navy does NOT refuel anywhere, we sail the Gulf of Guinea on one tank load only, we have two ships that can sail around the whole African continent without stopping to beg for fuel donation like a car accident victim looking for blood donor at the nearest available hospital.

Now Nigeria is a blue water sailing navy. We see South Africa failing the practical test of force projection....on your knees begging Angola for diesel to save your expensive shiny Valour frigates....Shame Shame Shame !!!

Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by agaugust:
patches689: According to the manufacturer - 7,200 miles
https://www.thyssenkrupp-marinesystems.com/en/blohmvoss-mekor-a-200-class-frigate.html

So thats Lagos and back with 1000 miles to spare, on "one tank"
What is "one tank" ? That 7,200 miles range is maximum your ship can sail.

FIRST, your 7,200 miles is ONLY at very slow speed according to your source, means your ship must NEVER speed chase a pirate.

If your ship runs after a pirate to intercept, your tank is now less than 7,200 miles range once you exceed that slow 16 knots speed.

Nigerian navy has had to use 50 knot speed Shaldag gun boats to chase and capture sea pirates because pirates like every other thief/criminal don't stop for you to arrest them ! They run away as fast as possible.

With your compulsory Valour Frigate speed limit of 16 knots snail speed, even Fish will dribble your navy around like school children.

SECOND, that 3,000 mile range Cape Town to Lagos is ONLY along coastline shipping routes, you must NOT sail off that single straight line to intercept a pirate that has snatched ship in the offshore high seas and heading towards Ghana, Brazil, or Europe ! If you try it, your fuel will not take you back home, so you have to beg Nigeria for diesel or do like Angola and beg Nigeria to send ATR-42 Surveyor and NNS Thunder to help you chase the pirates !

I am showing you reality of sea power force projection in maritime patrol of a the massive 5 mllion square kilometres kilometre of ocean waters in the Gulf of Guinea to Namibia that you dream of patrolling with one warship and one submarine and no single aircraft ! Nigerian navy has about 12 long range frigate and corvette size warships plus 2 ATR-42 long range aircraft plus 4 Dornier 228 long range aircraft and 2 space satellites scanning and patrolling that 5 million square kilometres 24 hours every day !

CONCLUSION, South African navy will be calling Nigerian navy and NAF for help when your misguided adventure into West Africa begins, even if you bring the whole of your navy here, you will still beg for diesel like Oliver Twist always asking for more grin grin

Welcome to the difficult world of international long range maritime patrolling and it's technical difficulties and realities, a mission that Mandela's navy is NOT equipped to undertake.....See why Nigeria built a patrolling navy before starting to now build a warfare navy? You buy what you need for survival first, the luxury comes later, simple common sense !
