Weapons systems (especially missile systems) become obsulete if the original manfucaturer no longer exists, or if there if no one to produce under license. I say especially missile systems for a reason. Example our anti tank Ratels are not produced anymore but can be maintained enough to fire Ingwe missiles. Now if Denel stopped producing Ingwe missiles, or Ratels would be useless. We would have to find a replacement. You can maintain heavy equipment to keep running, you cant maintain missiles to keep exploding .

And then you have the guts to call yourself a teacher. Swingfire used command to line of sight. Meaning there was a beam (optical or otherwise) pointing at the target. The reason you think it moves like a snake is the missile simply recalculating its position relative to this beam. If you go onto youtube you will see how all wire guided missiles seem to dance from left to right and up and down before hitting a target. The wire simply sends information back and forth between the missile and the sight. Your missile can dance like a snake, jump like a kangaroo, swim like a fish...do all it wants, but when it reaches the target it is pretty much riding that beam exactly. There is no dancing at the end. Then you have the stup*dity to think it might dodge a Mongoose missile, which only fires a few hundreds of a second before impact. Haha...okay.

Rooivalk engines are looked after nicely at home. If need be we'll make our engines from here. The facilities and engineers in Jonhannesburg wont run away or be bombed. What will you do? Use paddles?

saengine: And what those people commenting dont understand is that these are pre-selection trials. Before being even considered for the navy selection programme you have to prove you're able to swim....which is what you see in the video. Those cadets are not part of the Navy, they are trying to get in. Just like you have to do physical trials to get into special forces before day 1 of training. Compare the people in that video to the Marine Reaction Squadron....big difference.

Not "killers" as you would expect recruits who choose to join the armed forces - rather a bunch of wanna be travelers. Luckily there was one young man that mentioned "serve & protect" almost as an afterthought !! More like a work creation excersise than creating a force to protect our nation.
This clip didnt instill an grain of confidence in the armed forces in me - comeon pull your finger and show us the dicipline and a compitent force !!

This is why there is now a debate about Nigeria producing its own missiles. And dont talk about Britain, they obviously bought the largest number of missiles and have the biggest stockpile. So you must pick one....either your troops are training by firing 1 missile a year since 1993 or you will come to battle with a big stock of missiles but non of the young fresh troops know how to fire them . I didnt read the rubbish about you trying to explain the picture. You cant find a picture of Nigerian Swingfire Maybe its classified like your secret balloons. Or maybe its an old missile the world stopped making 20 years ago.


Um...can i ask you something? Did you pull that information about Mongoose from your a**? You just felt like making stuff up didnt you? Mongoose gives protection from RPG's, rockets and anti tank missiles. Has nothing to do with tracking lasers. Thats why it can hit an RPG. RPG's are not laser guided, they dont have any guidance at all. The fact that you highlighted that in red must be one of your lowest moments on this forum.

And which Swingfire missiles are you going to fire at us if YOUR link states production ended in 1993. How do you train your troops to use it? You fire 1 missile a year for the past 20 years? You must choose.....either you have no missiles to fight us, or you have missiles but troops who are completely useless at using them. And don't talk about Britain and other users, they obviously bought more missiles than Nigeria.

Add to that the new series of IFV's are slated to be fitted with the Mongoose hard kill protection system. One of the best systems around. Your 1 lonely soldier that knows how to use your remaining Swingfire will look in shock as his missile is blown to pieces from his hiding spot.

saengine: This was not your original post fool. Your GRAND 500 post said Nigeria WILL HAVE C-803 anti ship missiles with a range of 300km. You have absolutely no proof to back up that statement. You just went onto the internet and found a missile with the longest range you can, so that you can say its 4 times more powerful than SA Frigates. Your own wikipedia link that you put up says the missile is unlikely to enter large scale production. Not even China's Navy purchased it according to your own link. Your GRAND 500 post is a massive failure. Massive. Make this post again in 2014 when we all know which missiles will be on your boats.
