Yes, there is a formula to calculate the required amount needed to reinvest in a stock to average at a particular price. It is called the "Average Down" formula and it is used to calculate the amount needed to be invested at a lower price in order to bring the average price of the stock down to a desired level.

The formula for calculating the average down amount is:

A = (B * (C - D)) / (D - E)

where:
A = the additional amount needed to average down to the desired price
B = the total number of shares currently held
C = the desired average price per share
D = the current average price per share
E = the current price per share

Using your example, let's assume you bought 500 shares of a stock for a total of #1000 at a price of #2 per share. The stock then fell 30% to a price of #1.40 per share. Your current average cost per share is:

(500 shares * #2 per share) / 500 shares = #2 per share

To bring your average cost down to the current price of #1.40 per share, you would need to use the formula:

A = (500 * (1.40 - 2)) / (2 - 1.40) = 500

This means you would need to invest an additional #500 to bring your average cost per share down to #1.40.

E be like say this one na artificial intelligence Lol
No amount of additional buy can bring the average cost to 1.40. It will always be higher

I have learnt to stop complaining or wailing, any which way I should be okay and be better than 90% or more of the population.

It becomes a big problem when the majority who are comfortable with the system and also support the anomaly come to the hardworking citizens who are struggling to make an honest livelihood for handouts or financial aids.

I have friends, family members, neighbour etc who are in support of this corrupt system and politicians but majority don't have financial sustainability. After supporting their J*gab*n finish and hunger or emergency come knocking, they will still have the audacity to come to those of us who don't fancy their slave masters for grants, aids. His post is very relevant at this point.
It helps in planning for positioning on NSE, knowing how investors think.
It would have been better to ask for his rough paper so we can compare notes.
Ultimately, who wins WILL boost or burn our positions in this market.
We should be thinking of these kind of permutations here to guide us on where to put money.
Personally, I know who MUST lose... grin

Whoever wins as long as it's peaceful, the market will react positively at least in the short term

Might be too early to make a call, but with what I have seen and analyzed thus far, there's a near 1 probability that the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Gregory Obi shall win the ongoing presidential election.
...likelihood of occurrence is high even with a 50% voter turnout!

My forecast based on a combination of different plays and scenarios.

I would gladly love to be proved wrong.
Everyone knows I am, and will continue to be non-partisan.
Just love playing with Nos, which necessitated this post.

I see something in play.

May the voice of the masses PREVAIL!
May the deserving candidate Excel.
May Nigeria Win!

It is well.

I want to highlight that nobody is infallible, but acknowledging someone's correct prediction with a pat on the back is the least you can do. In July 2022, I forecasted that FCMB would outperform UBA based on my layman's observations. A few months later, FCMB had a solid 41% return when it reached 5 Naira and is currently at a 21% increase from the day I made my prediction, while UBA has only grown by 13%.

It's amusing how Pa Ema subtly poses multiple questions when he strongly disagrees with you.

This was one of my numerous predictions that came true due to simple pattern recognition. My point is that even if you're not an expert, straightforward observations can give you an advantage.

Sha come and share from your loot. I go only drink one bottle with a babe beside Lobatan

See the part in bold.

In November 2022, we warned about scarcity of naira which will be the effect of the new naira notes implementation come January 2023 and that effect is currently playing out all over the country today.

People are busy trying to find new notes to use and pay for some basic necessities/essentials and this is taking their minds away from speculative purchases of dollar while gradually accepting the use of electronic means of transfers.

While this is going on, any financial crash abroad that would ordinarily have caused people to flood into speculative dollar purchases in the past will not happen in Nigeria now because the people are busy finding money for their basic necessities. We will see how this plays out.

The next phase, in my opinion, will hurt those who are hoarding dollars. And that has already been outlined in the post above.

Most dollar transactions in Nigeria is by naira transfer for cash dollar so I don't think it would change anything

Hmmm this change of tone. Some people have been waiting to see GTB at 50 as you said last year. grin

Well your approach is not bad. You are open and say what you see.

I am not a TA guy oo, i just look at trends. I noticed that in the past 5 election circles in Nigeria, there is always a strong bull in the year preceding presidential elections. The highs of that preceding year are never attained again until a year after the elections.

With what has happened so far, the NSE is following that trend. Most stocks have had their year highs in January.

What that means is we MIGHT not see the highs of January 2023 again until next year.

I am not an expert ooo, I am just sharing my little experience

You are right but the high comes just after the election

But there is an anomaly. Banks are not joining in this ride of the ASI ATH. The big banks doesn't seem to have force.

Or are they yet to start? We will see.

GT has gained almost 40% in 2/3 months. Zenith over 30%

Using the Elliott wave theory, I am seeing that we are riding the 5th/last wave which is usually explosive and shorter than the bullish wave 3.
Until I see a tall monthly green candle, followed by a monthly red call (irrespective of size), that's the bearish call for me

No, I didn't read. I will check. Thanks.

Watch South Africa, France, UK and other indexes I have highlighted in the past.

I don't know what it could be but from my research it looks like something will make majority of these indexes lose a minimum of 62%. If NSE 30 gets higher than the historical top, it too will be in the league of the indexes that could do that huge decline.

Let's be cautious in this Q1 and have spare cash aside (dividend income, savings) in case of anything.

Of course after rise na fall
We still get 20-30% rise in the ASI before we bail out. The climax sign is always obvious. Till then, we ride to orgasm
