Politics › Re: 9 Funny Names Nigerians Call President Buhari by ahaz: 2:32pm On Jul 20, 2016 |
Samguine: President Muhammadu Buhari, the 5th civilian president of Nigeria is to Nigerians what they deem him to be. To this end, many Nigerians prefer to call him some names owing to his background, political life, and the how the nation has fared under his one year administration.
However, many make mockery and humour of situations to christen the president 72 years after his official christening by parents.
Here are some funny names Nigerians call President Muhammadu Buhari
Sai Baba
This is the slogan, used majorly during the electioneering campaign in 2015. And till today, Northerners use the word frequently to praise the president. In one of his visits to Kaduna State months after election, the chants of ‘Sai Baba’ rented the air and this has stuck as one of Mr President’s name.
Baba go slow
As the name implies, Buhari has been labelled a slow president in many quarters. The name became rampant during the one-year celebration of his ascension to office. Is Baba actually slow? That is left to you to judge.
Goro President
Goro in Hausa language is kola and many northerners are known for consuming it. The name is rampant among southerner, especially for northern traders. Being a northerner, President Buhari has nbeen named a Goro President.
Anti-corruption
Since assuming power, president Buhari’s anti-corruption war has been ‘well fought.’ With the arrest of prominent names such as Femi Fani Kayode, Sambo Dasuki, Olisa Metuh, Lawal Jafaru Isa and others, Buhari has earned himself a new name; Anti-corruption.
Dollardinho
Nigerians are passionate about how the currency does against the US Dollars. However, the naira has been depreciating in recent times. For this reason, the president has been named the ‘Dollardinho’ of our time.
Daura President
President Buhari's certificate saga has been on for a while. Many believed he has no WAEC certificate and this has earned him a new name - Daura President.
Ajala the traveler
In his first year in office, President Muhammadu Buhari embarked upon 29 foreign trips despite the myriad of challenges facing the country. Many accused him of staying of staying off the country more than he stays at home. For this, the president has been named Ajala the traveler.
Old Soja
This parlance is usually reserved for retired military officers in Nigeria. Being a former military president, the name seem to be well justified.
Baba Zahra
President Buhari is being addressed as such because of one of his pretty daughters, Zahra, whose beauty was in the spotlight during her father’s campaigns and after.

But please guys a country's economy does not collapse in 1 year, what you are seeing is a reflection of what has been happening over the years. The price of crude oil started declining during GEJ's govt and continued sharply afterward, no single person can be blamed for the decrease in price of crude oil. Election has come and gone, you people should forget about the election and move on. If you have a reason to blame the president, do it without being petty. Whether we all like it or not, Buhari is the President of Ibo, Hausa, Yoruba and collectively Nigeria. so stop all this attack that has helped no one. i will reply you when you exchange your son for a pot of amala. |

gbollybakare: I Did Not Collect N75 Million From Senator Tinubu For Anti-Melaye Rally -Kemi Nelson
Foremost politician and Woman Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief (Mrs.) Kemi Nelson has denied receiving N75 Million from Senator Oluremi Tinubu to organise a rally against Senator Dino Melaye for reportedly assaulting Tinubu at the senate chamber recently.
Reacting to a report by a civil rights movement, Committee for the Defence of Women’s Rights that Senator Oluremi Tinubu released N75 million to her through one of her sisters simply identified as Funlola, to organise a protest against Melaye, Nelson said that the report was a figment of the imagination of the committee.
The National President of CDWR, Prof. Taibat Majekodunmi, had made the allegation against Nelson in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja.
"Already, the protesters have stormed Abuja and have booked for 300 rooms in many Hotels in hotels in Abuja," the statement said.
Nelson said in a statement she personally signed and which was made available to the press that she didn't need to collect money from Senator Remi Tinubu or her husband, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to organise such a rally, adding that they were her mentors, who she was ready to support without any pecuniary gain.
She said further in the statement that she would actually participate fully in a rally that would be staged by a women group on Wednesday July 20 in Abuja to protest the alleged assault on Senator Tinubu by Senator Dino Melaye during a closed door meeting of the senate last week.
"We are moving to Abuja in full force to be part of this protest against Melaye for harassing a woman of substance like Senator Tinubu, whose family paid a huge price for our democracy. Our democracy is still nascent and we must do everything within our power to protect it. "We should not allow people like Melaye to rubbish what took years and cost us several lives to achieve. What Melaye did was not just against Senator Tinubu, but against all women and against our democracy. We will not behave like Nero, who sleeps, while Rome burns.
"All right thinking members of the society must rise against this oppression and an open insult against women by a man that has done little or nothing for our democracy. We cannot pretend that nothing is happening, when such a sacrilege is being committed in our country," the statement read.
Nelson stressed in the terse statement that she would be leading several women from Lagos to Abuja to protest against a system that she said allows someone like Melaye to debase a woman that, according to her, should be celebrated by the people.
She emphasised that this is the best time to 'put people like Melaye, where they belong,' adding that posterity would judge Melaye for trying to trivialise the hallowed chamber of the senate.
"With what Melaye has done, then he has been demystified and he should be recalled by his people without any delay. We cannot keep quiet at this material time. As Professor Wole Soyinka would say; 'the man dies, who keeps silent in the face of tyranny," she said.
Nelson then emphasised that it was totally untrue for anybody to think that she would collect money from Senator Oluremi Tinubu for such a venture, adding that she is committed to supporting 'right thinking people and great achievers such as Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his darling wife, Oluremi.' na lieeeee jooooor |

DobleO7: The General Officer Commanding the Nigerian Army’s 1st Division, Adeniyi Oyebade, a major general, authorized last December’s military operation that massacred at least 347 members of the Shi’a Muslim group in Zaria, and should be prosecuted, a judicial commission of inquiry into the killings, has said in its final report.
The commission of inquiry, set up by the Kaduna State government, indicted Mr. Oyebade and other senior army officers for the attack.
The panel’s report was submitted to Gov. Nasir el-Rufai on Friday, but its details are yet to be made public.
The killings drew worldwide condemnations, and several investigative reports said hundreds of people were killed by government troops and secretly buried in a mass grave in Zaria, Kaduna State.

Now that we are hearing this I wonder what those APC never-say-never supporters will have to say. I remember them stating categorically that killing of the shiites was JUSTIFIED. There are several other situations where the Federal Government takes a wrong decision, you see them hailing such a decision. For us to move forward, we as a people must change our attitude towards one another and the country. hausas dey fight na yoruba be scape goat.ha! when will dis people learn. |

giles14: Mr Godwin Obaseki, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the Sept. 10 Governorship in Edo, has promised to create more than 200,000 jobs, if elected as governor. Godwin Obaseki, APC flag bearer in Edo Obaseki made this pledge at the launching his campaign at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium on Saturday in Benin. He said the focus of his administration, if elected, would be job creation, entrepreneurship and industrialisation. Obaseki explained that most of the jobs would be created through agriculture and skills acquisition, adding that agriculture would be moved from subsistence to commercial agriculture. He further pledged that his administration would make Edo the agriculture hub of the country. He said that if elected governor, his administration would make power available and entrepreneurship a way of life as well as recognise the role of technical and vocational training. The APC candidate said his administration would give prominence to women empowerment and ensure that some investments training were specifically tailored for women. He assured Edo people that his team would consolidate on the solid foundation already laid by the out-going administration of Gov. Adams Oshiomhole. Earlier, Oshiomhole, while introducing the candidate to the crowd said that the APC in the state was gathered to present the party's agenda to consolidate on what had been started. He stressed the need for his administration to hand over to a competent, resourceful and intelligent successor, hence the choice of Obaseki. He noted that while the state was still basking in the euphoria of the achievements recorded by the administration, there was the need for all to rededicate themselves to the aspiration of the candidate. The governor stressed that the candidate was not an apprentice but a committed person concerned about the development of the state. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the National Chairman of the APC, Chief John Oyegun, received defectors from other parties. Oyegun also presented the governorship candidate with the party’s flag as its flag bearer.

ojoj: A JOKE TAKEN TOO FAR - by Gen. Alani Akinrinade (Rtd). ===================== . As far as l'm concerned, there is nothing like senators in the federal republic of Nigeria as at today. What people refer to as senators, is merely a deceptive and illusory assemblage of national irritants, who deliberate daily on how to purchase new cars, build new mansions and buy fantastic ones abroad, arrogate a strange and unjustified immunity to themselves, get constituency votes for marrying new wives and servicing girlfriends. . This assemblage derives most of its membership from retired and expired ex-governors, who ran their states aground and left them in huge debts, and also left their subjects bleeding, and weeping in sorrow and abject penury. You also have a lot of rascals, hooligans, area boys and street fighters amongst their fold. . Now how can this insensate and fiendish lot, after enough dosage of weed, lock up themselves in one obscure chamber and begin to mute the idea of impeaching a democratically elected president?... . Well, l must state here that it is none of their faults. If Nigerians had turned out en-mass and come to #OCCUPYNASS so we chase these prodigal sons back to their respective villages, we surely won't be discussing this today. . They should let it trickle down to their medulla that things are no longerthe same. It is no more business as usual and there is nothing they can do about it. I reliably gathered that most of them who borrowed money from banks to finance their campaigns, are finding it increasingly difficult to cope with pressures from the banks. That's the way it should be. This is not a business venture, rather a call to service. Hence, if you are not comfortable with the tune of events, then you resign, instead of turning yourself a legislative embarrassment and national disgrace. I'm yet to see any of them who would be missed for a minute if he resigns today. . This crop of Wonderers would undoubtedly leave a legacy as the worst performing, and most unproductive Senate in the history of Nigeria. Their latest actions and pronouncements are indeed a joke taken too far. gen. watch them brand you a militant or ipob youth. |

aminaadamu: This is the first known attack on oil installation in the South-West under the President Muhammadu Buhari administration. Suspected Niger Delta militants have blown up a gas pipeline in PZ Estate in the Ogijo area of Ogun State, Channels TV reports.
This is the first known attack on oil installation in the South-West under the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.
According to residents of the community, the incident occurred on Tuesday night, July 12.
The militants were said to have carried out the attack under the pretence that they were officials of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) on maintenance patrol.
The destroyed oil facility served an 11.4 distribution line for some companies in Ikorodu, Lagos state, report said.
With police investigations underway, the the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said its premature to conclude the attack was the handiwork of Niger Delta militants – it was however reported that sabotage of such nature has been masterminded by the creek manors.
“What we heard is that during the day, some people disguised as NNPC staff. They reportedly came with two Hilux vehicles and pretended as if they carried out some repairs.
“Later at night, the explosion occurred,” Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ogijo police station, Mohammed Tijani said.
