players only playing in a qualified nation league....
it for players plying their trade in domestic leagues of qualified nation.
like Nigeria....for instance can only invite players playing in Nigeria....other nigeria players in other national leagues..like Egypt, Tunisia etc are barred from particiapting
Thanks Man.

I asked because I was wondering if it's possible to extend invitation to our players like Akpeyi, Morouf, Sokari etc plying their trades across Africa just to have the opportunity to re-asses them...

And you believe Sokari would make it? Aluko has done enough to warrant invitation. He's cunny with the ball and fears no opponent. Rohr has 19 already. so i guess some of these names will have to struggle to be in the "fantastic four"!

CHAN is next month!

Need answers/clarification on eligible players for the competition. Is it meant for players only playing within a qualified nation or any player anywhere within the African continent?

Aggressive? I don't think so but if you think otherwise, my apologise.

However, if you claim Iheanacho is going through hard times but you can't say the same for Kayode then I know the big log of wood in your eyes can't make you see things in a more reasonable and critical way. Sentiments and lopsidedness are the keynotes of your points.

Why? Kelechi has flopped big time in the past seasons and it is the past glory of three seasons ago that is his saving grace for a look into the National team else he should not be called in the first place.

About being the most clinical forward, that is a big fallacy if you meant CF because he has failed severally in that position hence the need for Rohr to find him a suitable postion. That was why he was played as a RW and SS in our last games.

Now, talking about Kayode. Did you watch him played this season? If no, I understand you relied on hearsay or statistics to make your points because if you saw him played you would had known he was played in various positions and he was brought on to play when he either had to defend or faced a defensive team.

Overall, his performance will be the deciding factor at the end of the season.

Moreover, Mane who came from the lowly Austrian league has gone ahead to be nominated for APOTY award ahead of Kelechi whom you think is from EPL.

Don't forget it took Griezman three good seasons before he became an house hold name in the la liga. What does that means?

You can decode a player with prospect even if his situation are not tantalizing but a player without a prospect during the course of a season or two is as good as flop. That is how you scout a player. No bi by name or tribal mark.
the bolded sums up your post. Kayode a prospect? At what age pls?

I beseech you to take time to re-read my post and this time carefully if possible make use an eye glasses. Take note of the Capitulated words. Cos I no have strength for lengthy arguements.

Mujtahida:
i think the reason for the strength of the Iceland team is their MENTALITY. these guys are the descendants of the great warriors VIKINGS and they are very much conscious of this fact and they carry that knowledge into every match. their viking chant is said to be very brutal:"Another tradition, which became famous at the EURO – when almost ten per cent of Iceland’s population headed to France to cheer the team on - is the ‘Thunderclap’. The war cry-like chant drew inspiration from the film ‘300’ and made for an intimidating sight and sound. As one Portuguese journalist wrote at the EURO: "Don't cross Iceland - their Viking chant is terrifying!"

so our players need to be mentally tough, tough like steel cos those icelandic guys will come charging at them with the fury of the vikings. we might not have a unifying meta-arching historical archetype from which our players can draw strength like they do but we are a rugged people too, nigeria teaches you to be strong. they should remember that they are Eagles- the only bird that is happy when storms are raging so much so that while other birds hide and take refuge in the crevices of the rocks and crags the eagle rides upon the storms. in fact it flies straight into the eye of the storm because it knows that right inside the storm is always calm. forza Super Eagles

First of all, I do not think Nwakali should be included among players fighting for that slot because he down the pecking order.

Players like Joel, Sanusi, Ajagun and Raheem are far far far ahead of him.

However, it seems you assumed we are still in 2009 when Kayode played for the U17. Bros, clear ya eyes we are in 2017 going to 2018. Therefore, you should be aware that many water don pass under bridge. The boy has gone from grass to grace. He was even better than Kelechi Iheanacho who flopped big time in the U20 WC stage but Kayode shined in both the 2011 and 2013 edition of the U20 WC. And you should be aware that many star players of today sprang out from Kayode's set. Players that flopped big time then but today they are far far better than Kayode.

Players like Eric Dier, John Stones, Harry Kane, Saul, and Griezman were nobodies then but today they are in the ascendary.

So, do we judge these players based on their performance in the age grade competition now?

Or do we judge some players based on past under age glory?

Were is Sani Emmanuel today?

Open ya eyes, these players are top players now hence their under age performance is inconsequential.

The most important thing about spotting a talented player is consistency and if we go by that Kayode is a better player than Nwakaeme and Kelechi Iheanacho because he has being consistent over the YEARS.

The fact that you have expectations on Nwakaeme who struggled for two good seasons in the Israeli league before he managed to score double digit goals last season and two seasons ago showed that you are not aware Kayode was the third highest goal scorer in the same Israeli league when both played. That was even his first and last season before he moved to Austria were he scored double digit goals in his first season before he went to become the Austrian league top goal scorer and best player of the same league.

This is what scouts are looking for in players and that was what Newcastle, Manchester City etc saw and came calling for his services.

Abi, Guardiola no get brain to have sold Iheanacho and gone for and Overhyped player? grin

If Iheanacho was that exceptional, I don't think Guardiola would have preferred Raheem and Gabriel Jesus over him. And to add salt to injury Guardiola personally placed a call to a player overhyped in this thread. Meaning he rates Kayode highly that the exceptional Kelechi Iheanacho.

Is that not an irony?

Wake up! Iheanacho has to improve else he will be forgotten so soon. Likewise, Kayode has to prove himself in the la liga less he becomes an outcast.

Moreover, in a sane country Iheanacho can't smell the bench of a national team in this condition.

It is only in Nigeria, sentiments overrides common sense.
TAKE IT EASY BRO!

While I was typing I knew you'll be the one to counter this and you've done it aggressively-lo you didn't disappoint me. But the truth needs to be told. I know my stance on Kayode will hurt you.

Kay WAS outstanding last season. But WHERE? In the Austrian League. Fine. Why has he not been able to replicate such form in For Girona. Should I remind you? He hasn't hit the target yet. So sad for an Exceptional player of his calibre. I hope he gets his scoring boots soon.

You dragged in KI despite that I didn't mention him in my post... Oh I now see. The boy might be experiencing some tough times in his club. But everyone including an urborn Child knows that He is PRESENTLY our most CLINICAL Forward- the numbers speaks for him. He is invited base on his records for the National side.

Oh! before I forget, Nwakali is presently Ahead of those boys you listed over there. Do you wanna know why? If there is need for emergency, Nwakali will be the First guy Rohr will run things on. He has been invited why those names up there are still intensifying in their prayers. I pray Baba Rohr picks up their call. But as of now, he is ahead of them in the pecking order.

I was surprised when I saw your accusation. Well if saying the obvious makes me Sentimental then I'm glad to be. I don't understand how an uninvited player will be ahead of invited ones in the Pecking order.

It will be good If you can remove the log of wood in your eyes before pointing out the speck in your neighbours.

THANKS and Merry Xmas.

@SAFARIGIRL, In every field, being an expert differentiates one from ones competition. Expertness comes with experience.

Experience doesn't immune you to mistakes but it reduces your chance of committing one cos time has allowed you to learn from such mistakes over the years.

So, the same rule applies to Football. Have you ever imagine why countries don't use u-20s as their main goalkeepers at the Men's world cup? It is simply because they are not Men yet.

@ Kog45, Omuero, belongs to the group of players fighting for that remaining spot at the back. Omuero, Agbo etc

for the Midfield, There are so many players fighting for that slot(don't forget I have once ranked our midfielders on this thread). The likes of Etebo Agu who are regulars too belongs to this group others are Joel, sokari Nwakali etc but I leave the final decision for Rohr to take.

Onyekuru is a fine player but I'm afraid he 'may' miss out on the trip to Russia. This won't be because of his ability but he seems not to suit or fit into Rohr's plan.

Kayode? Well, i'm sorry to say this. The young man is not going to the world cup. He is not an exceptional player. I've known this right from his U-17days... He is not the type of player we're looking for-he is just an overhyped player.
Nwakeme is running out of time but he is a player I wish is given another chance in the green white green.

Ogbeche and Martins are old... Between the two I'll pick Martins base on ability. My only concern is that scuffle may arise in the team if these oldies are invited. Will Martins/Ogbeche be willing to recieve instructions from the likes of Mikel and Onazi? I don't want players who will be forming elders and babas for camp wey go spoil team spirit we already have V. Moses who doesn't roll with the boys. Increasing their numbers will only result into factions which will later disintegrate the team. I'll rather have a new invitee to this old men

So many criterias

Agreed, don't you think Uzoho can do it in the absence of Enyeama and in the defence why not Omeruo cos i don't see all these FB saying yes to us,the midfield let see Sokari first or Joel Obi and the attacks why not Oyekwuru but is Moses Simeon losing it.The CF i don't see any one apart from Kayode,Nwakaeme who are already part of the team or we go for old horse Obafemi and Ogbeche or what do you think
Uzoho is an amazing goalkeeper full of talents and potentials... But he is still a learner.

I have only watched him maned the goal post twice( for his club and country) and he well in those two matches.

I'll love to have him my world cup team as the third/youngest keeper for understudying and exposure...

Sir, you and I know that the World cup is full of pressure, tensions and anxieties being the most glamorous football fiesta on the planet and these makes it incomparable to other football competitions.

My Question is can Uzoho stands the heat and pressure when things get tough? He is the last man of defence. any rookie mistake(which is inevitable) will never go unpunished. Can he carry/bear the hope of an Entire nation of over 180million people? Don't forget he is just starting out his career and the least thing is putting him under a condition that could condemn/mar his international career.

If your answers to my questions are yes, the boy will have blessing to be in goal for us.

We all seem not to know the stage we're in. The world cup is 6months away. We are no longer in the building stage-the core members of the team going to the World Cup are already known.

I only see 4-5 slots still up for grab. Either by already called up ones or those not yet invited. I can assure us all that all the names flying around won't get an invitation talkless of assessing them.

The team is on it's way in attaining stability. Too much tweaking in the name of bringing in inform, above average, foreign born, cap-tieing etc players will only crumble the whole thing...

It's time for 'finishing job', finding tune to the already written songs and not building. Let every player who wish to play for us wait patiently till after the world cup.

Here is my breakdown for the 4-5 slots.
1 @ GK department-we're still in search of a reliable safe pairs of hands.

1 @ Defence(CB) - as Back up for Ekong, Balogun, Awaziem

1 @ Midfield- A Mikel-like Player(not necessary a player in Mikel's mold but a player that can easily do Mikel's job in his absence).

1 or 2 Forwards @ Attack - 1 CF(a must find) and a Winger. A winger cos presently Moses Simon and A. Musa are loosing their grips.

How I wish we can always put in mind the above criterias when making a case for a player to be invited.

I have finally come to the conclusion that Iheanacho's horrible first touches, which again, sadly, let to the goal scored by Man City is something that will take sometime for him to perfect.
Just like when I was teaching my wife how to drive and she was having trouble keeping the vehicle in a straight line but my frustration got the better of me. Today, she is an excellent driver. Its on this premise that I believe that this Iheanacho's shortcomings will not last forever...He will get better with hard work and *time*.
Patience is main deal.

Now the question is that: does the club, manager and the fans have enough of that patience to make it happen?

Nacho is getting back his touch but very slowly. If my memory serves me right, he only had two poor touches against Argentina(one led to Idowu's goal and the other one which I can't recollect now) which to me is a sign of improvement considering how poor they've been in recent time.

I feel for the young lad. He is presently undergoing a tough time. hope he pulls through.

FIFA’S TIMELY WARNING TO SUPER EAGLES: FIVE REASONS ICELAND CAN SHOCK THE WORLD

www.nairaland.com/attachments/6445517_iceland_jpegde6cecc58beb8267ef44a3c911a26a8e
World football governing body and owners of the World Cup competition has warned the global audience to watch out for the mystery team called Iceland when the World Cup kicks off in June next year.

Iceland, one of the two debutants and the smallest county ever to qualify for the World Cup, will feature in Group D where the Super Eagles will be attempting to cross to the next round.

Iceland will be Nigeria’s second opponents after that of Croatia before facing Argentina.

FIFA in its website gave five reasons why Iceland can shock the world. It remarked that there is an undeniable novelty factor to the small country’s participation at Russia 2018.

“Even their manager, Heimir Hallgrimsson, acknowledged as much after their spot at the FIFA World Cup – and place in history as the smallest nation ever to qualify – was secured. “This is really odd,” he said. “I mean, Pele, Maradona… Aron Einar Gunnarsson.”

FIFA warned that no one should be fooled by this light-hearted suggestion that Iceland, and their bearded captain, might seem out of place among the game’s greats on the global stage.

“For all the focus on their record-breaking population, they were also the smallest country ever to qualify for the UEFA European Championship – and everyone knows how that tale unfolded.

‘Indeed, while Iceland’s World Cup hopes haven’t been aided by a tough draw that has pitted them against Argentina, Croatia and Nigeria, there is plenty of cause for optimism. And if Lionel Messi, Luka Modric and Co need any reminding, FIFA.com has five reasons why the Nordic newcomers are a team worth fearing”.

According to FIFA the Icelanders are serial giant-killers. “‘The bigger they are, the harder they fall’ seems to be the motto of a team that, over the past couple of years, has beaten the likes of Croatia, the Netherlands, Turkey, Ukraine, Greece and, most famously of all, England.

“As midfielder Olafur Skulason said: “I could see the newspapers in other countries talking about how unlucky we are to get that kind of group – but that is exactly what we want. We want those big games. We want to play against Argentina. What an amazing team to play against in the first game ever for Iceland in the World Cup!”

FIFA also remarked that Iceland can better their EURO heroics. It will be recalled that Iceland stunned the football world by qualifying from their group at UEFA EURO 2016, then knocking out England in the last 16.

But despite their outstanding results, which also included a win over Austria and a draw with eventual champions Portugal, the players insisted that performance levels were below par. “I strongly believe we’re better than we showed in most of those games,” veteran defender Kari Arnason told FIFA.com.

“There were nerves at the EURO but we’re normally better in keeping the ball, working openings.” This was borne out in qualifying, when Iceland impressed en route to topping a group featuring Croatia, Turkey and Ukraine.

It also bodes well for Russia 2018. As Arnason said: “It’s nice to say that we did so well [at the EURO] and still have a lot of room to improve.”

FIFA also points out that Iceland have a star No. 10 of their own. Lionel Messi might be Group D’s headline act, but Iceland also have an influential and highly effective No10 in the shape of Gylfi Sigurdsson.

The midfielder is undoubtedly the ace in the debutants’ pack, with vision, shooting ability and set-piece expertise among his most notable attributes. As Sigurdsson’s former manager, Lars Lagerback, pointed out, he also epitomises Iceland’s team-centred approach.

“Together with Henrik Larsson, I would say that Gylfi is the best team player I’ve worked with,” Lagerback said of the man Everton paid £45 million for. “He always plays for the team and must be one of the best two-way midfield players out there.”

FIFA also hailed the Icelandic team spirit which it described as second-to-none.

Though their midfield playmaker stands out, Iceland’s strength lies not in star players

https://www.sportsvillagesquare.com/2017/12/21/fifas-timely-warning-super-eagles-five-reasons-iceland-can-shock-world/

I see our first match has the crucial game and a determinant of how far we will go at the World Cup. Anything short of a win against the Croats maybe catastrophic.

Having 3points going into our second game against the Vikings will go a long way cos I see them drawing their first match against the Argentines and coming for a kill against us with the hope of sealing qualification in their last group match against croatia a familiar side.

does V. Moses deserves to win?
NO.
Does he deserves to be in the final 3? YES.

If I must confess, a part of me is happy and at the same time the other part of me is sad. We will have to wait another year before Nigerian can have a shot at the award again.

My happiness stems from the inability of V. Moses to clinch the most glamourous continental individual award in football. For the sake of the national team, a team in high gear, preparing for the World cup in 6 and a half months time needs the least form of distraction.

The Moses I 'knew' will grow wings and become complacent if he had won/win either of the versions of the award(BBC n CAF) which won't benefit the team at the long run.

I believe he is a strong man and hopefully he'll handle this disappointment well. I see him been spurred to do more next year. Which will benefit both him and the nation.
THIS IS JUST MY VIEW.

To be quite honest with you, I will probably support Messi. The world owns Messi a World Cup. It would be absurd for the Greatest Player of All Time to retire without winning the biggest silverware of them all.

I may probably cry and refuse to eat the day (if) Argentina gets knocked out in Russia next year. It would mirror the way I felt when Denmark broke Nigeria's hearts in France 1998. I can still remember that day very well - Slava, my Russian gf at that time thought that I was going into a deep depression. I didn't I refused to eat for 2 days or so.

lmao. say na title
I changed it because I was tired of people referring to me as 'sir.' I'm not a 'sir', I'll never be a 'sir' but when you don't specify that's the default I guess.
gender today don turn to title that can be ascribed or conferred on people. Just joking anyway.

You're right, DrLikita sounds Masculine.

Those of you watching Barca v Depo can see why Cristiano Ronaldo would never be able to clean Messi's booths. Messi just burned the Depo defenceline and instead of tapping the ball into the net, he switched it over to Luis Suarez to tap in .... because he knew that Suarez needed that goal more than him.

FACT: This is something Cristiano Ronaldo would not do to save his life.

O pari
i want to put this to you.

Let's say you were given a chance to refer a final world cup match. Lo and behold it was Nigeria vs a Messi led argentina side. On whose side will you be?

Note: no VAR to put your decisions in check.
