Have you watched Isco and Pastore? Neymar, Hazard etc. We got lots of players today with loads of tricks.
i'm talking about players who got Amazing touch, techniques, skills(not necessarily a show boater), players who control d tempo of the game, players others look up too for inspiration... Players in the mould of Zidane, pirlo, Xavi, Iniesta, our own Jay Jay etc. This are the kind of players they system is wiping out gradually... Even your pastore does not belong to this era. He was 27 the last time I checked his age. The last kind of their generation are been already aging. Even Fabregas too don de attest to am se no room for their type again...

Funny. Obodo and Rabiu are not fit enough to polish Jay-Jay's boot. Oruma pass them wella. Simple, great players are hard to replace. Spain producing another Xavi will take time.

England producing another Scholes might take another fifty years.
Sir, I beg to disagree.

The main reason we no longer have such players again is not as a result of lack of young talents to fill in their shoes but modern day football system does not give room for players to develop into that anymore. It's now all about Pass Pass Pass and Score.

The painful truth is that some players no matter how good they perform will simply by the nature of things not feature for the Eagles. I might love such a player to my teeth, desire such a player, to be part of our team, clamour for him, display his stats, raise dust if he's not invited but still he will not just be invited or even if he's invited he'd be nothing but a fringe player. I feel for such players but it happens. Oruma's star was eclipsed by the mercurial quality of Jay Jay. Sometimes it's just badluck. Shikena.

But we should relax. It's not like Rohr gathered a bunch of efulefu players like them Dada (Michael Uchebo,) Reuben Gabriel, Oduamadi and left out the pick of the pack. Like you said we are heading in the right direction and indeed we are.
GBAM! you're too much baba! Very few people understand this. Not all players will ever get to play for the national team-some will only feature once, twice or luckily a tournaments and thats all. Look at Mba d dude that handed us our 3rd AFCON wasn't call up again after that glorious moment.

That unit of unknown is called instincts. It cannot be measured. Not everything in life yields to the drabness of scientific measurement and empirical evidence. Too much emphasis on what can be measured in modern day football is what is gradually turning this beautiful artistic game into a cold thing full of numbers, statistics and measurements.
I doff my cap for you...
The modern day football world are trying their best to quantify talents and potential thereby taking away the beauty of each players contribution. As most fans only focus on the attacking ability of a player which brings about ridiculous comparison...

If your figure is accurate, does it follow that the other 30% fail?
Nope. Just as it also seen in the case of formations deployed in football over the years. From 4-4-2, 4-3-3 and now 3-4-3(more coaches are adopting it). Majority of coaches adopts/follow trends as a result of change in football patterns while others decide to deviates and stick to what de believe will work for them. This doesn't mean that those who deviated will fail.
*it all boils down to individual's CHOICE*

you can decide to build your team around Form(i.e prioritizing form ahead of class) while another coach decide to say no-it is class first. All well and good-it depends on how you view it.

I'm not questioning Iwobi's class as you put it. My question is if Iwobi is out of form as we saw him at a point in time recently will you rather start ahead of an in-form Moses Simon on LW. Both players play that position. We have seen an in-form Moses Simon. Many of our forwards are versatile. Even Ahmed Musa has played LW for us many times in the past.

Experiencing a deep = out of form
I won't love us to go in cycle. As long as he is been invited, he gets the nod ahead of S. Moses...

Probably because it is the 'Art' of the game.

So you will start an out of form Iwobi ahead of an in-form Moses Simon as Left Winger?

I'm using Iwobi as an example because we have seen him in that state in the recent past.
definitely will.
Sir, You should be placing S. Moses and A. Musa side by side in the national team.

If Iwobi was to be an average player who happened to have some dip in form as u stated do you think he would have picked up so easily again? It's just barely 2month ago and from report reaching us from Camp, the dude has gotten his fit back.

As for S. Moses, I am not seeing the FORM you are saying.

Thank God, God's willing we'll all get to watch next weekend fixture against SA(Atleast DStv will show this one).

In my opinion, that is a wastage of two subs and reduces the coach's flexibility to make tactical changes.
with Shehu(a defender) and Musa(a forward) coming out there is more than enough room for tactical changes depending on the coach's approach to the game...

Shehu and Musa will be fasting, that might reduce the number of minutes the coach will give them. I do not expect either to start.
they can start and subed in the second half. Between 60-65 mins.

*MODIFIED*
But If rohr feels the fasting will affect their play. He can decide to star t Kayode ahead of Musa and therefore playing Nacho behind him. Which I'll love to see.

Something like this.
**Iwobi-Iheanacho-Etebo**
**Kayode**

But for Shehu, he seems to be a sure starter cos Ebuehi will be a big gamble if thrown into the fray from the blast of the whistle or better still Rohr playing ndidi there out of position which I don't see happening in the absence of J. Mikel.

we have very few of them...

Balogun
Mikel
Ndidi(he is showing some glimpses)
Etebo(highly under-rated)
Iwobi
Victor Moses and
Iheanacho.

These are the few I rate above the rest in the SE's.

firstly, what is even class to you?
I'm assuming you mean proven.

Is the argument proven vs unproven at international level?
here, class equates to talent simply innate ability.

For a player to be 'proven' he must have had some share numbers of professional football matches(appearances) under his belt-simple. Such player can be average, good or exceptional but he is alreaded tested and tried... So he is no longer a rookie(unproven).

You know when you pummel a team it creates that fear factor and helps to sustain your reputation. Brazil and Germany know how to do that very well. If Brazil catches you on your weak day, they'd finish you, both then and for posterity. Remember at the last world cup Brazil v Germany, even when Germany had finished dancing 7 step atilogu on top Brazil, when Neuer conceded just one goal against Brazil he was furious. I say oh oh oh. If na Nigeria, no such reaction. That shows how thorough we should be.
with patience I am sure we will get there. It's a gradual step. Having a german at the helms makes the future promising.

Sir, Class without form is Wetin? You cannot show class when you are not in form. Granted I will always start a player that has class(which has been proven over time) and is in form, ahead of an unproven player though also in form.
class without form can make a player look rusty but never average or ordinary.

That is why I'm not always move to the extent of clamouring for a call up when a seasoned player just pop out from no where and start scoring goals/performing.
Personally when it comes to international football I'll always root for class ahead of form. But when it comes to club football I'll stick to your assertions since it is week in week out football and your form matters...

*Modified*
Sir, a player with class will always have something to offer even if he is not in form. Don't forget being in form is playing at ur topmost level which makes an ordinary player look exceptional. Ighalo is an example. But class separates the men from boys anyday anytime.

Even the best sometimes loose form but yet it doesn't take away anything from them-they'll always be back so class is inbuilt.

But the question we need to ask is this:
What is the probability of a classic player loosing and gaining form? Or why do u think most coaches stick to this category of players no matter their present form.

Team building is continuous. Else Rohr would have focused only on our full backs for options. Besides the so called back up player is not meant as a replacement only when the starter is injured or absent. The regular starter may either drop in form or his inferior may become the superior. These things are not permanent.
I get you Sir. You know form is temporary. But don't forget Class is PERMANENT. That is why a national team shouldn't be build around form Alone unless you want to be changing players like underwears...

If only they don't take their feet off the gear as they often do in the second half. And they should learn to be ruthless, like continue hitting your opponent even when he's down.
Exactly Sir. That's another part of their game they need to improve on under Rohr. Have always wanted a ruth-less SE's team. But it seems we've not been able to get the ruthlike player(s) out of d team. Somehow de're still around.

Most of our subs have not been bringing in some sense of urgency when de come in. We need gamechangers and re-fuelers in the mold of Kanu who will come in and give us hope of more goals(either from direct play or through penalty) and an assured victory.

Are you being mischievous or what?

Where on this thread did I clamour for Ramon Azeez, Babatunde Michael, Sammy Ameobi and Michael Olaitan?

Maybe when Ramon Azeez was still in the La Liga and Olaitan playing for Olympicus in the Champions League which was reasonable as at then.

I remembered I clamored for them in the Olympic thread.

I never fancied Michael Babatunde because I knew Keshi brought him through the back door, d magogo way.

Sammy Ameobi, what? When did I clamor for this one? Maybe when he was playing with Newcastle in the Premier League.

Yes! Ajagun Abdul, Raheem Lawal and Solanke were/are regularly mentioned by me here. Why? Because I believe they deserve to be called.

Are you being sarcastic?

Every player untested have to be tested regardless of how good they are at club level. Their ability to imbibe the coach's playing philosophy and ease at which they can blend into the team is paramount. Hence we have friendlies and training camps. However, sometimes you have to start from somewhere like Rohr did. I remember Bryan Efe of spotkik mentioned luck as one of the reasons for Rohr's success. yes every coach need some amount of luck. Bryan Efe said our early opponents failed to exploit our weaknesses at the full back positions. That's one area if we dont fix well before Cameroon, we will be made to pay dearly. I've studied Cameroon, and noticed they like wing play and they come with power. The likes of Ebuehi have no business in that tie.
Sir Icon4s and other few must have caught the sarcasm intended!

I'm just trying to help a friend out. I only clamour for the 'best' which I only do once in a bluemoon cos the best are always scarce.

One thing I'm loving about this team is that: they've been taking their chances early into the matches they've played so far. It's unlike before when we will be waiting for the magical feet who wil come-in in the second half to bail us out. Most job have always been done and dusted in the 1st half.

Good job once again Coach Rohr. Thanks for this paradigm shift in our national team...

Better replacement for each position?

As if you replace players as easily as you replace bed sheets on your bed.

You think if we have players better than Iheanacho, Moses, Iwobi, Ndidi, Mikel, Echiejile, Etebo, Balogun, Omeruo, Ekong any where in the world we will not field them?

You think the coaching crew are not interested in improving the standards of the team?

What do you think team building is all about?
You wake up and overhaul a whole team when you have crucial matches all because you are searching for better players?

As far as I am concerned I will give this current coaching crew Excellent in terms of scouting for players for the national team. We had crucial games against Zambia and Algeria that could not be toiled with. With the little time he had after his appointment he maximised the established potentials in the team and came out tops.

We organized a friendly against Senegal of which a couple of players had their debutes.

We organized a France camp and so many untested players were featured in the two friendlies.
I am sure from the 3 games we have played this year the coaching crew has assessed a lot of these players and know which ones are ready for the Super Eagles.

Forgiveness I dare you to mention any player or players playing in any league(s) in this Universe that are better than the ones Rohr is likely to start against South Africa.
can I help him Sir?

Abduljelil Ajagun,
Mickael Olaitan,
Babatunde Michael,
Rahmon Azeez,
Sammy Ameobi,
Dominic Solanke(if not for the ongoing u-20WC). Make I stop here... He'll come to point out the rest.
