Lets even forget abt the U20 thing.
There was a point in time in Taye Taiwo's career when he was amomg the top 3 LBs in the world.

I can overlook the "Oshiniwa is better than Echiejile" talk but not this "Oshiniwa is better than Taye Taiwo" own.
you're right sir.
T.Taiwo is not in d same class with any of our recent LBs.

So I'm still wondering why n where d comparison is steming from.

Don't mind him he has forgotten that Taiwo is also a dead ball specialist and how good he was.

D major problem I have wit him is his overlappings and his inability to track back on time.

How many matches did Taiwo play in 2010 World Cup?

He played two matches with injuries.
He futured Once @SA 2010. He was replaced by Echiejile after pulling an harmstring from a miskick(chai that shot wey skim past d upright-it was goal bound) in our first match against Argentina.

His Injury+keita's red were part f d reasons we couldn't make t to the next round.

Truth is that for those who has never watched him in the colours of Nigeria, iheanacho will look a tap in merchant to them. For Nigerians who have seen him grow through the ranks, we know what he is capable of,no thanks to the position he plays for Man city which is different to how he is used by Nigeria.
Iheanacho will always be confined as a striker, because naturally he is not one. However, if Man city starts playing him off a striker, he will unleash his playmaking abilities with that sweet left foot, the cynics will marvel at how good the guy is.

If they continue playing him as a 9,he will get them the goals and points but am afraid that position will take away so much from his game and stifle his development on the long run . In my opinion of course.
I thought I'm d only one that harbours d same fear.

Nacho brings more to d game than just staying up front and scoring goals.
Though he helps in d buildup play(on and off d ball)-but that is not what he is all about.
It's beauty watching nacho making use of his deft left leg in a full fledge.
It could have been a diff story if he didn't show us a glimpse of what he is capable of @u17.

I think we need to be careful with extending invitations to our ex(retired) footballers just in d name of fortifying d team.

Let dem stay away from d national team so de can give room for d young, energetic and passionate ones to come in.

I don't even see dem bringing anything new to d table. Unless if you want to disorganise d team cohesion. Na so we go de hear news on captaincy, one player de form boss for camp. Lagbaja tells Rohr: this is Nigeria and it has to be done nigerian way, Who is Mr. X? Where was Mr. X when we won d AFCON?...and so on. Simply because e don spend so much time in d national team. Happy with this news!
THIS IS THE TYPE OF SUPER EAGLES WE ALL HAVE BEEN LONGING FOR.

*Rohr drops 'vacation players' from Algeria clash*

Gernot Rohr has gone tough - he will no longer call up players he describes as "vacation players" because they have failed to fight for first-team places after two invitations.

"Some players have been invited for two matches but have yet to push for a place in the first team and now we wish to invite fresh players to do what they could not do," Rohr said.

"The time is gone when a player comes for two matches, collects bonuses, allowances and ticket refund and does not measure up.

"What we need now are players who can fight for first-team shirts and so make the team more competitive."

The likes of Israel-based midfielder Nosa Igiebor, Kingsley Madu from Zulte-Waregem of Belgium, Rangers goalkeeper Emmanuel Daniel and Jamiu Alimi from Kano Pillars could fall into this bracket of "vacation players"

Everyone here may think "saying no" to his invitation means we don't stand with the foreign-borns. *laughs*

BUT I SAY A HUGE "NO" TO NEDUM ONUOHA. THE SUPER EAGLES IS NO DUMPING GROUND FOR ENGLAND REJECTS. WE REFUSE TO BECOME SUCH....

This is my own stand. smiley

THIS IS A SPORTS FORUM AND WE MUST SAY IT AS IT IS....... Maybe una dey look Forgiveness..... Looolllllll

If he isn't good enough for England he isn't good enough for Nigeria. Not even when he is old.

I still de regret dat Ameobi's mistake. D man was a waste of space @d last world cup.

Iheanacho Success Iwobi

But I'll prefer A. Musa for S. Moses in that set up.

We don get stars but na d formation wey go accomodate dem remain now.

It will throw-up another whirlwind of heated competition in Nigeria's midfield should Chidiebere Nwakali returns to the Etihad and start making his mark(s).
competition everywhere!
I don't think Nigeria has had such competition as we see today in d last 10yrs.

Hmmmm... I can't even imagine d kinda headache Rohr will be facing while selecting his team.

Even presently we have 5-inform wingers in V. Moses, S. Moses, A. Musa, I. Success(though I'll still love to see him play d CF role in d green white green) and even Iwobi... Chai wahala de o! I think d midfield n defence will suffer for this in d numbers of players been called-up.
With Etebor coming in, Ideye might soon be drop from d team. Ighalo will even need to convince d coach y he needs to keep faith in him.

I only laughed when I read that NFF are still wooing Ibe. Abeg where e wan stay or who im go displace.

Brazil has a system that works-Nigeria does not have one yet.
Football is their way of Life.#Facts.

But since 2013, Nigeria has produced more talented young players than they've done.
You made mention that they are on the rise once again(citing their olympic gold achievement)... Okay!!! so we are. But don't forget Brazil's past achievement paved way for them. They still struggled on their way to olympic glory despite all the stars they got.

Imagine what could have happened if our own young stars(M. Mohammed, Iwobi, success, Nacho,s. moses etc...) were released by their clubs for d games just has d brazillians got theirs. Maybe t could have been Neymar's turn to cry.(E STILL DE PAIN ME SAY D WORLD COULDN'T SEE ONE OF THE BEST ASSEMBLED YOUNG TEAM play @ the olympics)

Who is best to fill d LB n RB are our present concern.

It won't be advisable to start Echiejile from d left.
1. He lacks d pace to cope against d algerians which might want to explore that side with longballs(e.g 2nd half vs. Zambia).
2. He is easily caught out of position.
3. Iwobi can't track back to defend well. If played from d left.
So who do we play in his place?
*Taiwo? Oh no! already 31(football age), overlaps too much, last played for eagles against Argentina@2010 worldcup.
*Oshaniwa? Same with him. He has been out for a while. No time to integrate with d team.
*Amuzie&Madu are too young and less experienced to cope with such attack. Poor timing n crosses as we can see @ Rio.
FOR NOW Elderson Echiejile should start but with V.Moses playing from left- I think we'll have a good cover up.

For d RB:
Ndidi should not start.
It's either shehu or Omuero should be deploy but not Onazi (He is too attack minded that he'll join d attack and therefore exposing d defence-no amount of instruction will keep him there)

Personally, i think Nwobodo's undoing is his playing in the Npfl. if he had gone abroad, i am very sure he will be playing mikel's role while mikel will be playing onazi's role in the super eagles. He is most suited for that role. In Nigeria, we hold high regard for foreign base players. Nwobodo is too good not to be in the super eagles if iwobi & iheanacho can be there. He is a midfield meastro. A delight in his art. His mistakes on the ball are very little.
for now I'll like Nwobodo to concentrate more on his club career and wait till next year before been called up...
Reason been that he might not get to play considering d already established players in his position(get me right, I'm not saying he is not good enough) but no coach will like to experiment in a competitive game of such a magnitude and been in d squad n not playing may not be good for him-remember Adi(he was called but never given a chance to show what he can bring to the table) . So a friendly match will be good for him.
*NO DOUBT HE IS A WONDER KID THAT CAN WONDER GOALS* so sooner or later he'll get his chance.

Coach Rohr is making me fall in love with him. IT seems he's playing some mind games. Coming out to say 11points(3wins, 2Draws and 1loss) will be enough to see Nigeria through to d Mundial after 1away win will kinda give other coaches some sort of insinuation that maybe he'll be coming out against them for a draw atmost whereas Reverse will be d case.

on another wavelenghth, why haven't we be making full use of this international breaks? Atleast friendly matches could be organised alongside d qualifiers so has to improve d team chemistry.

3 points secured!

D team is improving and progressing gradually.

Did any see d shot mikel took? mikel of old could have ballooned t up. Thats d essence of drills. The shooting drills has improved d over all ability of our team-no more wayward shots.

Can't wait to have Leon, Moses, Success and Ighalo back in d team.

Finally, We need to look out for better fullbacks. Ndidi(though played out of position) and Echiejile were too vulnerable and were easily beaten by pace. Lest we forget north african teams are pacey. Hope d coach looks into this.

Congratulations to all sport loving Nigerians. D unbeaten run continues.

32shots and no goal. Really pathetic.

This should serve as a lesson for future engagements. Rohr should always give a suplimentary list while naming his team.

I hope Chisom is up for this. He was totally frightened and devastated by the nasty injury to Ifeanyi Egwim last night. When players witness such kind of leg breaks it affects their confidence level.
Arsenal players surrendered the league as they couldn't handle the psychological trauma of the Ramsey/Eduardo's nasty leg breaks. I hope Chisom is in the right from of mind, if he's not, he will do well to excuse himself.
You've said it all...

But the numbers of our players out cos of injuries is worrisome. Moses and Success...(hope these european clubs are not playing on our intelligence)

with the two wingers out. We only hope musa(hmmm... He hasn't play for a while now) can up his game.

I think we should Start with a 4-3-3 formation with Musa, Nacho and Ideye leading the attack.

No matter what anyone comes here to say about Nacho's game. The boy remains a rare fine finisher. One thing that makes him different is his shot accuracy. Damn it, most of his shots are goal bound or makes d GK to pull a great save.

For his game time. He'll get to play more. Remember he is just 19(soon be 20 by Oct.)
I'll still like him to come off d bench in a star studded city team than commanding a starting shirt in a lesser team.

Note: Running an hundred dash with a more better athletes makes you better though you maybe coming last every single time but ur time will be getting better cos de're making you run faster. But running with people u can outrun will only retard. ur speed, cos you'll always beat them hands down. So leave d guy alone and let him be fully baked before leaving for another club-this is d development stage and we don't want anything to hamper his growth.
