FIFA U-17 W/Cup: It’s win or nothing, NFF charges Eaglets
By: JOEL AJAYI

Four days to the kick-off of the 2015 U-17 FIFA World Cup in Santiago, Chile, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has set a target “of the trophy or nothing” for the Coach Emmanuel Amuneke-tutored Golden Eaglets.
The NFF seemingly gave the charge through its Executive Committee Member, Hon. Sulieman Yahaya-Kwande, who spoke to National Mirror in Abuja.
Kwande, who is also a member of the House representatives, told our correspondent at the Abuja National Stadium moments after the U-20 national women’s team, Falconets, qualified for the final round of the African qualifying series for the 2016 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, courtesy of a 4-1 aggregate defeat of their opponents from the DR Congo, that Golden Eaglets must defend the cup their compatriots won in 2013 in UAE.
“I have always said that the primary objective of the team participating in the tournament is to lift the tournament trophy. It is more or less a mandate we have handed to the team.
“As you all know, we always have confidence on our junior team. I want you to understand that we are defending champions and we will not settle for the less,” the NFF board member said.
He added, “I don’t think Amuneke and his technical crew have an excuse, with robust programmes and support we gave them, we charge them to go all out there and defend the trophy we won two years ago in the United Arab Emirates, coupled with the fact that they have been in camp for long, we don’t expect nothing from them than to enter final and win the cup.”
Meanwhile, Golden Eaglets played their second and last warm up match before heading to Santiago for the 16th edition of the FIFA U-17 World Cup against the U-20 side of Argentine top side, Racing Club de Avellaneda yesterday at the club’s central training pitch at Tita Mattiussi located in Greater Buenos Aires.
The Eaglets last Wednesday beat their Argentinean counterparts 2-1 at the AFA Training Centre.
Meanwhile, Amuneke has yet reiterated that the best players have been picked to represent Nigeria in Chile, with the Golden Eaglets playing their first match against the USA on Saturday at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos in Santiago.

Obafemi is simply an unfortunate Player as far as Eagles' call ups are concerned! But it's already late for him, cos he didn't fit Oliseh's philosophy!
The oldest Player in the current Super Eagles is 29yrs old. The Team's Captains - Musa, Onazi and Omeruo are 22yrs old respectively thus a 30yrs old Player isn't needed anymore!
Isaac Promise and Taiwo Awoniyi could be drafted into the fold instead of inviting Martins.
*smiles* nigerians are always funny.
If u say o. Martins s old den what 'll u say about Pirlo(d professor), fletcher, keane, ronaldo, buffon etc who are already in their 30s but still represent their countries.
U don't just drive/send away d oldies cos u get a dynamic n prospective young talents in a team.
Their presence boost team morales, brings fear into d opponents n their experience can't just be ignored. They may not start matches cos de're aging(by the way martins plays 90min of football week in week out) but can come off d bench n change games.
so having one, two or three of them in a team of 23 won't be bad but will rather make the team stronger

I don't know what Obagoal did to NFF o. I mean America is not the best soccer playing country in the world but to turn a blind eye at the best striker in their league is borderline illegal. I think he is one of the few designated players who don't play for their national team. This season he has scored a goal in every match. I mean the guy would have to have an attitude worse than Balloteli for a coach to warrant not inviting him. This was my argument even 2 years ago I tire o!
u're right. They've not been given him regular call-ups since 2011... Which might be due to hatred from d glass house as u have indicated above. He could have gotten closer to 35 record goals set by yekini but for reason best known to them Siasia, keshi(invited him once)have refuse to bring him into d fold and now oliseh....
What amuses me most is that his goals are always nominated weekin weekout for d best goal award.

Spurs back on track for Moses Simon - report

Nigeria star Moses Simon
EPL side Tottenham Hotspur are back tracking Nigeria international Moses Simon, according to media reports.
The performances of Simon for Gent have caught the attention of the London club's scouts, according to Daily Mail.
They are back on his trail after a string of impressive performances.
The winger, who has four caps for Nigeria with a goal, scored seven goals last season as Gent won a historic Belgian league championship and set up Depoitre for the winning goal in the Belgian Super Cup.
Tottenham and Liverpool wanted to sign Simon when he was a teenager, but he opted to train with Ajax Amsterdam instead before he signed for Trencin in Slovakia.

Honestly, I gotta give it to Oliseh and the team................ Absolutely brilliant!!!

**couldnt watch the game but have read the reports**

And one thing pointed out was An impressive kind of tactical discipline. #reallygood

This team can only keep getting better.... Believe me when I say that "the Egyptians" would be stunned at this result by Nigeria.

I can't wait to see Oliseh gradually beef up this team in certain areas. I think in addition to The outstanding Moses Simon, a player like Iheanacho will bring even more dynamism to our attack (which was quite impressive today no doubt).... Emenike was not "it" today.

In defence, The return of Omeruo and Oboabona will up the "ante" there. But hey! Good job done by Balogun and Ambrose.
At leftback, Echiejile was shaky. Madu may be young but he can give a good fight to elderson.

Impressive performance. Tactical discipline as cited in the reports I followed was key.

Breaching a defence that has the likes of Chedjou, Bassong and Nkoulou "3 times" is "NO SMALL ACHIEVEMENT" but shouldn't be over-celebrated.

They also had Top Fc porto striker, Vincent Aboubakar, Tottenham's Clinton Njie, Moukandjo(the beast) and Stephane Mbia.

Kudos to Nigeria. The positives are much I tell you.

MIKEL OBI IS ALWAYS THE BOSS!!! THAT GUY IS JUST GOOD... CLASS IS INDEED PERMANENT.
*smiles*

CONGRATS NIGERIA!!!!! GOOD TO KNOW WE'RE BACK.......

Good one-also missed d match. So i have little to say.
going by fans analysis-i think t time Emenike is drop for a better player(success or o.martins) we can't keep having hope in uncertainty(2 yrs of goal drought) no, we've waited enough...
Anyway Kudos to the team.

FIFA U-17 World Cup Chile 2015
South Africa's class ready for Chile 2015

https://img.fifa.com/mm/photo/tournament/competition/01/99/39/41/1993941_full-lnd.jpg
It is said that a good coach needs to understand his players, and former teacher and psychology graduate Molefi Ntseki certainly fits that bill. FIFA.comspoke to the coach who will be in charge of the South African team at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile later this month.
When asked what playing and coaching experience he has, Molefi Ntseki rattles off dates, clubs and places as if he was reading them from his CV. But he is not. He simply knows them off by heart. It is an indication of his coaching philosophy: Everything is done with meticulous planning. “It comes from my teaching background. That is how I obtained my teaching diploma. The methodology and the way to present to players comes from a teaching background and from what I learnt when I was doing my coaching courses.”
Ntseki, whose hopes of taking his own playing career to notable heights were scuppered by injury, was teaching a vernacular language (Sesotho) and working as a guidance counsellor when he decided to resign in 2002 and concentrate on football coaching. He went to Germany for a course and has not looked back, combining his former life working with youngsters with his love of football. “Knowing the methods of teaching, having gone through learning those stages, it is a very similar challenge with a football team. I don't miss teaching because I am really still doing it. Just football teaching, which people happen to call coaching.”
Facing challenges
When he took over the South African U-17 team in April last year, Ntseki faced numerous challenges, but he pinpoints the players' self-esteem as the biggest hurdle. “South Africa had many very talented players, but they did not believe in themselves. They gave opponents too much respect.”
It was something that he started to work on straight away as the team embarked on the difficult journey toward Chile. “During the qualifiers for the African championships, we kept on saying that we were going to the finals in Niger. And then once we were there, we changed our goal to be getting to Chile, and we focused on that. And in that way we came to the belief that this could be the team to take South Africa to the World Cup.”
In Niger the team drew with Mali and Côte d'Ivoire, and they secured the tense victory they needed against Cameroon to qualify for the semi-finals, which ensured qualification for Chile.
In the semi-finals, they managed to beat bitter rivals Nigeria and although they lost the championship match against Mali, Ntseki was satisfied with the performance. “It was a great feeling, not only for me as an individual, but for the whole country. Everybody rallied behind us, and it was a very exciting moment to see the team qualify for the U-17s for the first time.”
In Chile, South Africa will face Korea DPR, Costa Rica and Russia in Group E. “We are expecting very strong, very organised teams that will dig deep to win, and so we will go to Chile with a lot of respect for every country. Just as all the countries that have qualified should also have a lot of respect for us.”
With a target of getting out of the group, Ntseki says anything can happen once a team gets into the knockout rounds. “By then we will have seen what the other teams are doing, and we will have improved. Every game you play becomes an experience on its own, and by the time you get to the fourth game we should have an excellent understanding of what we can achieve.”
He said that it is likely that the nucleus of players who took the team to Chile will make up the squad and he is confident that not only can they do well in Chile but that they can also help the country develop further. “This team is a foundation for the future. Just in terms of having played at the African championships and the World Cup, they will have gained a lot of experience, and they will be coming to a good age for the 2022 World Cup. So yes, the future looks very bright for our country.”

SportsRe: All The News About The Golden Eaglets (U-17) HERE! by AIG07: 7:54pm On Oct 10, 2015
The Federal military government under leadership of: General Muhammadu Buhari, appreciated the gallant boys, by rewarding them appropriately. They were subsequently, re- named: "the World Golden Eaglets !"; and subsequently named " Government property," in response to the cries of Nigerians that they should be kept together to enable them bond well to be the future formidable Super Eagles. This meant the players couldn't play for clubsides; but had to be together, train together, play together, with a view to forming a great Super Eagles of the future.
This policy of making them " Government property," with benefit of hindsight, was a failed one, as the players one way or the other found a way out of the " cordon sanitair," placed on them, to pursue their soccer careers elsewhere. Thus defeating the purpose of being called " Government property," in the first place.
Secondly, only three of the members of this team made it to the Super Eagles! Thus further defeating the purpose of making them " Government property."
In conclusion, the purpose of this write-up, is two - fold:
Firstly, to caution our highly talented young players on how to actualise their dreams of being the big players of tomorrow. It doesn't make sense, 'languishing,' in a big clubside because of the fat payment gotten there, while one doesn't play competitive first team soccer. A player can only develop by playing competitively, regularly, in a fully fledged league; not with the reserves, in a reserves' league! A player who signs for a big clubside, where he doesn't get regular playing time, can go on loan to a smaller clubside, develop there and latter on go back to the big team.
Like one mentioned earlier on, only three members of the World Golden Eaglets that won the 1985 under -17 World cup, played for the Super Eagles: Nduka Ugbade, Jonathan Akpoborie and Bauldwin Bazuaye. None of them represented Nigeria, at the FIFA senior World cup tournament! What happened to their development as players ? Like as earlier stated, some of them shot themselves on the foot through wrongful approach to their development, among other contributory factors. Unfortunately, this wrongful developmental pattern, still persists till this day !
Talent is God-given, but development of it, is essentially, in human hands !
Secondly, to encourage the Nation's under-17 team who are presently in Chile for the FIFA 2015 under-17 World cup competition, to go for gold! A fifth triumph at this competition, is desirable. Nigerians can never get tired of winning soccer competitions; the nation's four earlier triumphs not withstanding.
In this spirit, one like all Nigerians, wishes the Golden Eaglet, lots of luck, in their latest adventure, to defend their hard won title of 2013. Iseeeeeeh !!!!!!
UP WORLD GOLDEN EAGLETS !!!! UP NIGERIA !!!!!!!!
SportsRe: All The News About The Golden Eaglets (U-17) HERE! by AIG07: 7:48pm On Oct 10, 2015
...continuation...
What did Nigerians see in the final match ?: They saw a team that lined up the following players: Goalkeeper, Lucky Agbonsevbafe; the defenders were: Duere Tuenwonrimi, at right back; Skipper Nduka Ugbade, at left back, who was noticeable with his power-packed overlapping runs; Binebi Numa, at centre-half back; and the late Kingsley Aikhionbare, with his characteristic white head band at left- half back. He reminds me of Godwin Odiye, alias 'Mr No way,' of Super Eagles fame, who also wore a characteristic head band. He played in a similar position as Godwin Odiye - left half back! The mid-field consisted of: Fatai Atere, the dimunitive, but very skillful player, who was the anchor man in mid-field; he reminds me of Mudashiru Babatunde Lawal, of blessed memory, who played a similar role in the Super Eagles of yore! The right sided offensive mid-fielder,was the charismatic Victor Igbinoba, who was not only charismatic in his playing style, with which he mesmerised opposing defences, but was so charismatic that he 'charmed ' the Nigerian ladies, many of whom were dying to date him! He was a very handsome boy indeed! The left-sided offensive mid-field,was manned by the gentle -man player: Sanni Adamu, another fine player, who excited all and sundry with his neat, spotless, 'don't-touch-me,' style of play. Sanni was a beauty to watch. His characteristically beautiful chest control of the ball was marvellous! The offensive front consisted of: right winger: Babatunde Joseph Fapetu, the young and highly talented dribbling wizard, who literally tore opposing defences to shreds with his uncanny dribbling runs down the right wing. The left winger was: Billa Momoh, who was a beauty to watch, in his dazzling dribbling runs from the left wing. The centre-forward,was Jonathan Akpoborie, the highly energetic and bustling central striker. And of course not to forget the other beautiful players like Bauldwin Bazuaye and the others, who though were not regulars, no doubt contributed immensely to the team's success. Due to limitations of the human memory, yours sincerely, cannot mention them by name.
The team was coached by: Coach Sebastian Brodericks - Imasuen, and was assisted by Chairman Christian Chukwu and Coach Bala Shamaki.
The Golden Eaglets appeared bright in their 4-3-3 formation; and went on the offensive from the blast of the refree's whistle. The didn't care much about the reputation of the Germans. But the Germans fought back giving the Golden Eaglets anxious moments. Before the end of the first half, the Golden Eaglets broke the deadlock, by going ahead, through centre-forward: Jonathan Akpoborie; who connected home with a beautiful header off a well taken corner kick, to give the Golden Eaglets, a first half lead !
In the second half, the Germans tried to fight back, but were time and again repulsed by the highly determined Golden Eaglets, who sensing victory, tightened all nooks and crannies behind and still tried to kill the Germans through counter-attack. In one of those well executed counter attacks, Victor Igbinoba, got a pass mid-way into the German half of the field, and surprised his team mates and the Germans, in particular, when he let go a cracking volley, with the left foot, which found safety at the far corner of the German net, for Nigeria's second and last goal! It was a very beautiful goal, one of the best, if not the best of that tournament. Yours sincerely, remembers very well that the NTA, used that goal, for many months, not only to herald the 9pm Network news, but also to display to the world, Nigeria 's superiority, in under -17 soccer !
The Golden Eaglets won the match 2-0, and thus became the maiden winners of the FIFA under-17 World cup competition! The world subsequently took notice of Nigeria, as a power house, nay emerging power house in soccer!
On arrival in Nigeria, they were given a heroes' welcome, which was in shrill contrast to the virtually no send-off they got at departure!
SportsRe: All The News About The Golden Eaglets (U-17) HERE! by AIG07: 7:48pm On Oct 10, 2015
Saw this interesting piece on Nigeriaworld-by Cyril C. Nwokeji on Friday, October 2, 2015.
REMEMBERING THE WORLD GOLDEN EAGLETS,
THE MAIDEN WINNERS OF THE UNDER-17 WORLD CUP COMPETITION
.The year was 1985, the month was August. The occasion was the under-17 World cup competition, in the peoples' republic of China. Nigeria's under - 17 World Cup team, was one of the African representatives to the 1985 Under-17 World cup competition. The team was unsung and unheralded; and further depleted by the loss of the team's regular goalkeeper and skipper and a reliable defender, who abandoned the team in rather unceremonious circumstances, in the lead up to the competition.
To further worsen matters, the Super Eagles had just been eliminated from the 1986 World cup competition, in far away Tunis, by Tunisia; and Nigerians were thrown into 'mourning.' Consequently, the least that interested Nigerians, at that time, was the unknown, unheralded and unsung under-17 World cup competition.
Thus, the World Golden Eaglets, then known as the Under-17 national team, left the shores of Nigeria, virtually unannounced. The only mention of their departure, in the press, was that shortly before departing for China, they were mobilised, to form a sort of 'guard of honour,' for the returning, defeated, dejected and dispirited Super Eagles players, who flew in from Tunisia; as a way of shoring up their morale, after their World cup ouster. A consolation of sorts !
The World Golden Eaglets, thus begon the under-17 World cup adventure, in far away China, virtually, unknown to Nigerians. The team quietly but efficiently went through the preliminaries, and qualified for the quarter-finals. The Nigerian Television Authorities, N.T.A, relayed the recorded matches of the World Golden Eaglets, in the evenings, to Nigerians, because of the time difference with China. This fact not withstanding, Nigerians didn't take much notice. The Golden Eaglest, meanwhile, continued their quiet, but very effective 'revolution,' in the land of revolution, by effectively and efficiently discharging of their opponents. It was not until they got to the finals that Nigerians took notice! Nigerians became excited that a Nigerian team had for the first time gotten to the finals of a FIFA World cup tournament! All Nigerian were united in prayers for a successfull outcome of the encounter with Germany, then West Germany, in the finals. While Nigerians prayed for success of their team, the organisers - Kodak - apparently prayed for a different outcome, as they apparently wished for a German victory, since that would be better for business! However, the highly determined Nigerians - the World Golden Eaglets - reasoned differently, and put their strategy to very effective use during the final match.
At around 3pm local time, the NTA, interrupted regular programming, to announce the hitherto unexpected: the World Golden Eaglets, had just won the under -17 World cup, in the peoples' Republic of China, after having defeated Germany, 2-0, in the finals. Nigerians were thrown into extacy, as they jumped for joy, and danced in the streets, at this huge milestone, in the Nations's soccer adventurism! The NTA, promised to relay the recorded match, at 10pm local time, that same day. Nigerians were excited and stayed glued to their tv sets at the appointed time, as if the match was to be relayed live !

Hey guys great to be here to comment again after so long a time. First of shout out to the OP of this thread and other contributors like Aig17, goke, safarigirl et al special mention to supernerd for his insightful analysis full of wisdom beyond his years keep it up dude!

Now to the issues at hand first the oliseh/enyeama brouhaha supernerd has adequately addressed the issue which I agree with 100% but let me add a slight carveat as much as I blame oliseh for failing to handle the situation we should not be naïve or oblivious to the behaviour of these are senior national team players. Most of them cannot try 10% of what they do in the super eagles with their clubs cos they know that their clubs will call them out on any bullshit they display. While the few ones that do (osaze-westbrom, funny enough oliseh-Dortmund, emenike-fenerbarche etc) get the book thrown at them.

On the Drc match yes it was a dissapointment but analysing the game critically possession was a bit better fluidity too but a combination of lack of quality and execution in defence and wide positions cost us. Plus let's not be too dismissive of the drc's performance they are a talented team on their day. Remember they beat CIV at home in the afcon qualifiers last year and came 3rd in this years afcon. Going forward I havnt yet lost faith in oliseh but he should realise that time is running out

Like supernerd would write God bless Nigeria and the Super Eagles

Well, I'm really sad for Aguero coz Argentina went on to lose that game.

And reports say it's a "serious" hamstring injury. Well, get well soon, Kun Aguero.

But like you said, This is NACHO'S CHANCE to keep the ball rolling even faster than before. Can't wait for this international break to pass.....
i know how u feel sir(feels thesame). *Winks* nigeria has been a disappointment so far n d break is even getting boring as d mighty are fallen.
Feels for d citizens-wish kun a quick recovery. Iheanacho it's time to shine-so grab t.

That doesn't even come into the picture. Oliseh already gave the reasons why he gave the captaincy band to Musa. It makes sense. No one knows shitty. Everyone is a potential leader. No need to look down on him.
did anybody notice what happened when Musa was brought out-no one wanted to put on d band-abegi did oliseh forget to select d Ass. Captain?

Nigeria has reached a new low thanks to old behavior patterns. When will we ever learn?

Thanks. I have been a fan of Nairaland for the Past years (3) now, but the rude behaviour of some folks is what actually discouraged some of us from formally joining the group.
I can even mention some of the popular people that create threads/posts/comments and cause a lot of trouble in most sections here on Nairaland. I know about the rules, the dos and donts. I have followed up issues here. The up dates especially on sports, politics, romance, crime and so on. If you could remember, some years back, if someone makes a post, most people will just be making silly coments like, you want to drive traffick, you formed and framed the story, even when you make a grammatical/spelling error, ha you are in trouble. Different insults/intimidations will just follow you. If some brings a problem here that needs a solution, he/she will just end up feeling worse for his openness. I just summond courage to joint yesterday. One thing I also know is that we argue to agree, learn, reach a compromise and not to become enemies.
another newbie in the house-u're welcome sir. Hope u enjoy your stay here.

Thanks 4 ur maturity
u 've just said 'maturity'.
I never knew how good, mature, open minded and peaceful folks here are-not until when I visited Miss safari's thread on 'D impending doom' yesterday. Come see people de rant, yarn all kinds of words-some can't even just do without throwing insultive words-as if de love n understand d sport more than d OP*big smiles*. Na so i come pack my load leave d thread for the 'plastic fans'
But, truth be said folks here are terrific. Kudos to u all. Here I feel at home. I Hope invaders won't come n hijack here too.
It seems i'm seeing ur moniker for d first time here.
