It's been a terrific adventure right from d first page down to this point with the Explorer on a blessed sunday evening!
Kudos to d op for this insightful piece!
I was really forced to make a comment on the thread after weeks been in ghostmode on NL.
I was touched When I saw Gandhi's possession. Everybody needs to see this including our extravagant leaders who siphon d masses wealth for no good reason. The man understood d concept of Life as found in Matthew 6:25-34 knowing fully well that life is not ALL about material things but impact made to our generation n legacy left for d unborn generations.(i'm not saying he is a christian o o) no wonder he is celebrated today.
As a friend of mine will always say LIVE LIFE!
I just hope history will once again be return to our school curriculum. So that we n our kids we'll know/learn d past live the present while having the future in mind!
Kudos once again Explorer

TheSuperNerd:
Honestly, I hope the NFF catches into the "Amuneke and Manu Garba Rotation" for u-17 and u-20 as we have presented on this thread........

I know it will work........ I just know it.

The reports drew a conclusion but I still don't think the Nff is 100% set on it coz they are yet to "confirm" Manu as u-20 coach or as part of our coaches.......... I hope they do retain him "officially" and switch him to the u-17 and Amuneke to the u-20 (just as you've suggested also).

I suggest these coaches switch roles as u-17 and u-20 coaches "EVERY TWO YEARS" BECAUSE OF THIS:

"""""THE PLAYERS MANU SCOUTS TO UTILIZE HIS TOTAL FOOTBALL/TIKI TAKA/ALL-DOMINATING PHILOSOPHY MAY VARY FROM THE PLAYERS AMUNEKE WILL SCOUT TO EXECUTE HIS "NEW STRANGE AND LETHAL" PHILOSOPHY........"""""

I term Amuneke's "new" coz his soccer philosophy is still "novel" to the rest of the soccer world.....

Manu seeks out Ball Jugglers, Quick Ball-playing thinkers, Highly technically-gifted, and "super talented" lads that can function as a team but with the "edge of absolute Super Individual Brilliance oozing from every angle of the team"

Amuneke seeks out Skillful Hardworkers, Certain Technically-gifted super talents, Direct kind of really Skillful lads, Trojan-kind players and Tireless Runners who can function as a team but "Produce UNIQUE ORGANIZED ENTROPY ADDED TO A WEIRD KIND OF KEEN TACTICAL DISCIPLINE founded upon ABSOLUTE RUTHLESSNESS with little time on the ball"

These coaches need all the time they need from u-17 to the u-20s to really mold "their" lads..........

The coaches at the u-23 (Siasia and co) and Senior (Oliseh and co) level....... Will now have "a super large pool" of "TOP AND SUPER TALENTS" TO CHOOSE FROM........... *SMILES*
i'm totally in support of this. Hope nff 'll see this

Wow! Goal! Goal!! Goal!!!!
Just had a priviledge of watching the goals highlight. Mehn all six goals are no fluke. The mexican's second was an individual brilliance.
But Okonkwo's own was a well 'Pounded' yam(sorry goal)*smiles* the keeper had no chance Nwakali's free kick is a top class.he has improved his game. His assist for Ebere shows that he got an eagle eye even while playing deep.
But wait o this mexican old o. So playing an older malians won't be a new thing!

Hmmm Chile '87. I will never forget. That tourney was Nigeria's worst participation at any FIFA organised youth competition.

Nigeria won the maiden FIFA U16 tourney (yes U16 then) in 1985. Two years later was Chile 87. A couple of the former U16 boys were promoted to play an U21 tourney (yes U21 then) 2 yrs later. What we had was 17 & 18 yrs olds having to compete with 20 & 21 yrs olds from d rest of d world. Notable Players from d former U16: Sani Adamu, Nduka Ugbade, Jonathan Akpoborie, Victor Igbinoba (my then favorite), Lucky Agbons and co. This crop was joined by some Nigerian League players notably: Etim Esin (African Maradona, then was at d edge of signing for AA Gent of Belgium), Thompson Oliha (Green Eagles midfield maestro before JJ Okocha), Peter Nieketen(one of the most celebrated young players in d Nigerian league.Playing for one of those Lagos clubs; either ACB or Stationery stores)Willy Okpara and a host of others.

We thought we had a star studded team.

Earlier in the year Nigeria won silver at d U17 WC in Canada. Hopes were high that we can do it again. Remembering also dat we finished 3rd at the 1985 FIFA U21.

Nigeria was placed in a group of death: Brazil, Italy, Canada and Nigeria.

Our first game was against Brazil. Omo i say Brazil wan kill us. We were so outplayed in that first half and conceded 2goals. Second half Nigeria came back better but still conceded 2 more goals. It ended 4-0 in favour of Brazil. Oh I didn't feel like going to school the next day.

Our next game was against Italy and we lost 2-0. We only managed a 2-2 draw against Canada in the last grp game.

Well, Amuneke said he cannot remember anything about Chile '87. Very possible.Aside from being very young then Amuneke and I grew up in the same neighbourhood where only very few families owned a TV set. Our house was always full with neighbours coming to watch matches. I dnt think Amuneke's father owned a TV set (No ridicle meant). My Dad was a real football follower. He indoctrinated me into it.

Some peeps hu can cast their minds back to the U20 thread can remember i kept mentioning Chile '87 episode. The same issue of going to an U20 tourney with predominantly 17 &18 yrs olds.Even having to play Brazil again in our opening match which we still lost against but by 4-2(1st time we will b scoring against Brazil at U20). Before na always 4-0., 3-0, 2-0 & once 0-0.

So that is d Chile '87 memory o. Still fresh in my head. Just like yesterday. sad
good one from you Sir. Icon4s
thanks for this insightful piece.
But seriously Amuneke has proved most nigerians wrong including me. going into this tourney no one ever gave him to go far like this considering his performance at d african stage.
We all hope d eaglets re-write history @d stadio. Goodluck to d lads. Sir Mikron i salutes you where ever u de.

Footballers n their flamboyants lifestyles(partying, clubing, hairstyle et al)
it is always advisable for young prospective future football stars to keep their heads low. Cos coaches which these players work with during career differs in their morality standards this reminds me of a certain argentine called Fernando Rodondo who had a fall out wit his coach Daniel Pasarela(hope I got d spelling right) due to flamboyant lifestyle which d coach do not like n this affected d guy, dteam n d entire nation at d 98 world cup(sir. Icon4 n other babas knows d story better) even in recent history d likes of Dinho, ibra even young wilshere have trodded/treading this unsavoury path n you all know how things went/going for this dudes.
I think whatever a man does he should do 'moderately'!
Thanks all

------------------BREAKING NEWS---------------------

Oliseh have "officially" invited Martins for Nigeria's November World cup qualifiers........

But like I said earlier on this thread(in fact on this page.......), I "awaited" the "official list of 23-24" players coz the list making rounds since morning are "speculations" with some elements of truth...........

No Iheanacho, No Sone Aluko, and No Victor Moses..... As speculated earlier......

Here's the "Official" list:

GKs: Carl Ikeme (Wolverhampton Wanderers);
Ikechukwu Ezenwa (Sunshine Stars); Dele
Alampasu (Club de Sportivo Feirense).

Defenders: Abdullahi Shehu; Kalu Orji;Elderson Echiejile;
Chima Akas; Leon Balogun; Godfrey Oboabona; Efe
Ambrose; Austin Oboroakpo.

Midfielders: Ogenyi Onazi;Paul Onobi;Mikel Obi;
Rabiu Ibrahim; Wilfred Ndidi ; Sylvester
Igbonu.

Forwards: Ahmed Musa;Moses Simon;Odion
Ighalo;Ezekiel Bassey;Alex Iwobi;Obafemi
Martins.

**Soon this "official list will flood the media**

I confirmed this through Brila Fm's twitter handle.

**You know Brila.... Africa's first and Nigeria's only Sports radio...... So that's it....**

And I must say I'm kinda surprised Martins made it and Nacho or Isaac Success or Ujah did not (ONE OF THEM SHOULD HAVE). I knew Victor Moses might be snubbed because of the last incident (where he wrote the Nff and Oliseh about his "unique" reasons for wanting to be left out of the friendlies earlier this month).

Oliseh should take it easy biko........ Obviously brought in Enyimba's Ezekiel Bassey in place of Victor Moses.

Well, it's alright.... It's still a "GOOD AND EXCITING" squad, after all, no be swaziland?? (Not underrating them but truth be told.... We don't have to break a sweat to beat them..... If this squad play to their strengths).

Anyway, Nacho and Success.... Pls keep doing ur things..... Ok.... Both ur times will come...

Meanwhile, Martins...... Good to have u back after over 2 yrs I think...... Now is ur chance..... Make a "statement" and stay..... Or else.......

**smiles**
thanks for keeping us updated. I've really missed those folks at brila f.m those guys are exceptional sportcaster- good having martins back in d team-hope he brings his form n experience to d team. Can't wait for d two legged match.

BascoVanVeli:
I know i risk being slapped thru my phone but I don't agree with the idea of a coach being told who to play. If anything it is insulting to our coach, Iheanacho is Nigerian just like any one else Siasia will select. He is good enough to start for the team we all know this so why the extra gist and terms to contract? This is not some ordinary coach they are making this "ultimatum" to, it is a man that has been to the Olympic games final. Man City is not Real Madrid they should go and sit down. The question was, can you send Iheanacho, yes or no?
What also annoys me is that the request was made public and whoever this NFF mule/source is should be delt with. My thing is if this request is met, what is next? Do they tell Siasia who else to play with him(Nwakali)? Or say "make sure he plays striker"(bench Ajayi/Awoniyi)? The whole thing is a bad idea because it sends the wrong message that our coach is not in charge. Anyways why should our coach listen to anything that comes from England? How successful have they been in youth football? He knows his player's obviously if he requested for Iheanacho it was not for him to come and eat chin chin. Or wait, I guess they feel all Nigerian's are the same so Siasia automatically will do the same thing to Nacho that Manu did. This pisses me off because Siasia might be forced to reject Iheanacho all together and I'm pretty sure it was Man City's plan all along.
supported!
