The Ogun State government has announced the commencement of the 2025 Public Service Day celebrations, scheduled to begin on Friday, June 13, 2025.

The week-long events are designed to promote unity, wellness, and excellence among civil servants in the state.

Activities Lineup

The celebrations will feature a range of activities, including:

- A Jumat Service at the Central Mosque, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, on June 13, 2025, by 1:00 pm.
- A commemorative thanksgiving church service on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at the Government House Chapel, Isale-Igbehin, Abeokuta, by 8:30 am.
- A diagnostic program, "Know Your Health Status," on June 15, 2025, at the Arcade Ground, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, by 9:00 am.
- Indoor games competitions on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at the Arcade Ground, Oke-Mosan, Governor's office, between 9:00 am and 12 noon.
- Football matches for male and female teams from the mainstream civil service and parastatals on June 18, 2025, at the M.K.O. Abiola Sports Arena, Kuto, Abeokuta, by 2 pm.

Public Service Day Lecture
The activities will culminate with the Public Service Day Lecture on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at the Obas' Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, starting at 10:00 am.

The theme of the lecture is "Managing the Public Service for Excellence and Service Delivery in the 21st Century: The Role of Innovation, Adaptation, and Technology."

The 2025 Public Service Day celebrations in Ogun State promise to be an exciting and enriching experience for civil servants. The various activities are designed to promote teamwork, wellness, and innovation, while also providing opportunities for professional development and networking.

Over 800 people in Abeokuta South Local government Area have been empowered with cash and other tools by Member of the House of Representatives representing Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, Hon. Afolabi Afuape.

The event, held at the iconic Ake Palace in Abeokuta, marks another milestone in Afuape’s ongoing efforts to address the needs of his people.


The empowerment initiative was one of the major highlights of the day, which saw numerous beneficiaries receive cash gifts and professional tools, including motorcycles, sewing machines, and hair dryers, to enhance their livelihood.


This gesture is part of Afuape’s broader mission to stimulate economic growth and reduce unemployment in the constituency.


Earlier in the day, Afuape hosted a stakeholders’ engagement at the Centenary Hall in Abeokuta, where he took time to reflect on his legislative journey over the past year.


In a well-received speech, the lawmaker emphasized the importance of his legislative contributions and detailed his achievements in education, security, power, and youth empowerment.


Hon. Afuape has made significant strides in advancing the welfare of his constituents through key legislative actions.


As part of his core responsibilities, the lawmaker said he  has sponsored a series of bills aimed at improving national governance and local development.


Notable among these are the National Farm Settlements Agency Bill, aimed at revitalizing the agricultural sector, and the Police Act Amendment Bill, which seeks to improve policing in Nigeria.


Other legislative initiatives highlighted by Afuape include the National Council for Arts and Culture Amendment Bill and the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) Amendment Bill.


Additionally, he has initiated motions to address issues such as the provision of stable electricity for consumers and the promotion of traditional fabric industries like Adire and Kampala, as part of his cultural advocacy.


Afuape’s commitment to his constituency extends beyond legislation to concrete community interventions.


Over the course of the year, he has facilitated several infrastructural projects, particularly in the education sector.


Notable projects include the construction of classrooms at St. John’s High School, Kuto, and Methodist Primary School, Ogbe, alongside ongoing renovations at Ijaye Community Primary School, Ghangba, Abeokuta.


These efforts are aimed at enhancing the learning environment for students and supporting the educational development of the constituency.



In addition, the lawmaker has installed solar-powered street lights in strategic locations, contributing to improved security in the area.


Afuape also emphasized his legislative support for job creation, highlighting his role in facilitating employment opportunities for constituents within various government agencies and organizations.


Afuape’s dedication to empowering the youth in his constituency was evident in his distribution of startup grants and equipment to young entrepreneurs.


Through various training programs, including solar panel installation and sewing machine donations, he has helped many young people acquire marketable skills that will empower them to create their own businesses.


Further reinforcing his commitment to job creation, the lawmaker has provided revolving loans to traders and artisans in partnership with community-based associations such as the Panseke Traders Association and Itoko-Keesi-Emere Women’s Group. Afuape also mentioned that 50 people had been appointed as Legislative Aides, providing them with valuable work experience.


While Afuape’s efforts have been lauded, the event also saw several stakeholders voice pressing concerns.


One participant appealed to the lawmaker to spearhead legislation aimed at curbing the growing issue of drug abuse in the constituency, which has become a significant challenge, particularly among the youth.


The call for an urgent intervention resonated with the attendees, who urged Afuape to prioritize laws that would combat the rising drug abuse problem.


Another participant called for the activation of farm settlements within the constituency to help bolster agricultural production and improve the livelihoods of local farmers.


The participant highlighted the potential of such initiatives to create jobs and stimulate economic growth in Abeokuta South.


In response to these concerns, Afuape expressed his commitment to addressing the issues, noting that he would explore all avenues to initiate legislative actions on both fronts.


He pledged to work towards the activation of farm settlements and stressed the importance of laws to tackle drug abuse and its related challenges.


He acknowledged the hurdles that remain but reassured his constituents of his unwavering dedication to their welfare. The lawmaker invited feedback from the attendees, encouraging constructive criticism to help refine his efforts moving forward.

*...Calls for Cancellation*

Some Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State have voiced out their displeasure over the conduct of the primary noting that the exercise
was not transparent and Alleged that there
were overvoting considering the number of delegates on the list sent from the Headquarters.

One of the stakeholders who craved anonymity alleged that after the election was conducted, it was expected that the results would be sorted and announced, but instead, party members were asked to go back home and the results sorted and announced in questionable circumstances.

The leader of one of the leading political groups in Apapa Local Government further called on the APC state chairman and major stakeholders in the party to look into the undemocratic practice, noting that the election be canceled while calling for a proper election to be held.

The group also questioned the performance of the incumbent Apapa local government chairman, which was alleged to be unpopular and performed far below expectations and does not deserve to be returned elected because the votes cast at the primaries did not reflect the intentions of the party's delegates.

"Opposition parties are waiting for such mistakes so that they can take over the APC-controlled Local Government in Apapa.

The group further noted that all the chairmanship and councillorship candidates have spent a lot of money before getting to the point of primaries and seeing the manners in which the primaries were marred with overvoting as against the official list sent from APC headquarters in Abuja which indicated that just 22 delegates are expected to vote from Apapa local government but the result shown was 27, which the group noted that it is a pointer that the election was not valid and need to be rerun.

According to a Punch newspaper report which indicated that other local governments also alleged imposition of candidates in the Lagos Mainland Local Government and Yaba Local Council Development Areas. The Punch report further indicated that the party's primary election, held at its secretariat in Ikeja, concluded with candidates emerging through indirect election and consensus for most of the 20 local governments and 37 LCDAs.

Some protesters, who gathered on Apapa Road in Ebute Metta before marching to Arise TV on Victoria Island, claimed that party leaders were imposing unpopular aspirants as consensus candidates without the consent of other contestants. They threatened to challenge the decision in court unless a unanimous agreement was reached.

Taorid Owolabi, leader of the protesters, called for the primary to be rescheduled, citing a lack of consensus among aspirants. He urged the State Working Committee to adopt revised guidelines that reflect the peculiar circumstances of the LGAs and LCDAs.

Another protester, Sodeeq Olawepo, warned that the party's failure to resolve the issue could lead to litigation and affect its performance in the upcoming local government elections and the 2027 general election.

However, the APC spokesperson in the state, Seye Oladejo, denied allegations of imposition, stating that the party has a solid mechanism to resolve candidacy issues. He assured that the party would field candidates for the local governments in the upcoming election.

Meanwhile, an aggrieved aspirant in Orile-Agege LCDA, Abimbola Oladokun, and an Aspirant from Apapa local government condemned the primary, claiming the exercise was not democratically conducted due to irregularities.

Meanwhile, the aggrieved party member explained that the primary was closely monitored by Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat who urged delegates and party members to conduct themselves peacefully. The Chairman of the Lagos APC Electoral Committee, Babatunde Ogala, explained that councils with consensus candidates were allowed to affirm their choice before others cast their votes.

As part of activities marking the implementation of Renewed Hope Initiative in Ogun State, women and youths have been trained on best agricultural practices, within their compound in various enterprises to enhance food security and improved livelihood.

The wife of Ogun State Governor, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, while addressing participants during the training in Abeokuta, spoke on the importance of planting vegetables and rearing livestock at one's backyard, saying "Every Home A Garden" was an initiative implemented by Senator Oluremi Tinubu whose passion for agriculture was aimed at encouraging women and youths to learn, practice and grow what they eat so as to be self-reliant.

She added that the high cost of food in the country necessitated the need for self-help in agriculture, saying if the knowledge gained from the training was well utilised, and this could expand to the level of exportation, as today's farmers were potential billionaires.

Mrs. Abiodun revealed that, Nigerian first lady had believe in inculcating farming practices to children, which led to the creation of "Young Farmers' Initiative" as a way of reviving the extinct Young Farmers' Club in Secondary Schools, where students were also empowered with seedlings and tools to plant in their various schools.

‘’Senator Oluremi Tinubu is interested in agriculture and has mandated all the First Ladies in each State of the country to carry out this empowerment programme because she believes that each household should grow what they eat to address the current high cost of food in the country. I want to implore you to put into practice all the knowledge gained here today so as to be self-reliant", she admonished.

Speaking, Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Bolu Owotomo, said that the programme complements the agricultural road maps of Ogun State towards improving food productivity and enhancing the livelihood of farmers, noting that women were significant players in agricultural value-chains and their contributions to the growth of the sector cannot be over emphasised.

In her remarks, Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs, Hon. Funmilayo Afuape, canvassed for more empowerment programmes for farmers in the area of easy transportation as well as creation of Farmers' Market in every Local Government Area, to enable the public buy fresh and affordable farm produce.

One of the Facilitators at the training, Director of Fisheries, Ogun State Agricultural Development Programme (OGADEP), Mr. Akindele Abayomi, said the training which involved women, youths and students, was meant to make the beneficiaries self-employed, which would have multiplier effect on them and the economy judging from the quality of training and inputs given to them.

Responding, some of the trainees, Mr. Akindele Oludare from Igbogila and Miss Tomisin Ogunjobi from Abeokuta, said the training had further opened their eyes and deepened their interests in agriculture, as they were now knowledgeable in poultry, fishery and vegetable farming, thanking the organisers for the initiative.

The items distributed were, grinding machine, broilers, poultry feeds, wheel barrows, spraying pumps, watering can, fertilizer and seedlings, shovel, hand trowel, hoes, hats, nursery trays, rakes, hand gloves, herbicides, jungle boots among others.

Dignitaries at the event included top government functionaries, Community Leaders, Students, Agricultural Teachers, Farmers' Groups and other stake-holders in agriculture.

With 10 days before the official opening ceremony of the 22nd National Sports Festival, also known as the "Gateway Games 2024", Ogun state athletes have staged a peaceful protest at their camp in Ikenne.

The athletes are demanding payment of their camp allowances and other entitlements, which they claim have not been provided.

The protesters carried placards with inscriptions such as "Settle the athletes and have a successful festival", "Inadequate food", "Lack of training equipment", and "Insufficient water supply". The athletes have been camping in Ikenne for several days, preparing for the festival.

According to the athletes, the failure of the government to meet their demands could negatively impact their performance during the games.

The athletes are seeking immediate resolution to their grievances to enable them focus on their sporting events.

The South West chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) is set to benefit from a transformative 3-day retreat, championed by Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi. The initiative aims to enhance the skills of sports journalists across the region in preparation for the upcoming National Sports Festival, which Ogun State will host from May 16 to 30, 2025.

The idea for the retreat was solidified during SWAN’s quarterly zonal meeting held in Abeokuta two weeks ago. According to the Chairman of Ogun SWAN, Comrade Michael-Azeez Ogunsiji, the retreat is envisioned as a strategic human capacity development program, courtesy of Senator Yayi, who represents Ogun West in the National Assembly.

Ogunsiji confirmed that a formal proposal has already been submitted to the Senator, seeking his approval and support to bring the event to fruition. He expressed optimism that the program will equip sports journalists with the tools and knowledge necessary for effective coverage of the festival and beyond.

“The 3-day retreat will allow our members to stay abreast of current trends in sports journalism and report with depth, accuracy, and professionalism,” Ogunsiji said.

He added that seasoned experts from the National Institute of Sports (NIS), Lagos, will facilitate training sessions on diverse areas such as sports presentation, advanced sports writing, the ethics and laws of sportscasting, and investigative journalism in the modern era.

Highlighting the significance of the event, Ogunsiji announced that SWAN’s National President, Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, alongside other national officers, will be present in Ogun State to officially declare the program open.

Fifty sports journalists from across the South West states have been carefully selected to participate in the retreat. The event will also provide a platform for direct engagement between Senator Yayi and the media professionals. Notably, the retreat will close with an interactive session, during which the Senator is expected to unveil his comprehensive sports development agenda for Ogun youth, especially as speculations around his 2027 gubernatorial ambition continue to gain momentum.

Former Managing Director of Wema Bank Plc, Ademola Adebise, has emphasized the importance of alumni engagement, stakeholder-driven growth, and sustainability as Wema Bank marks its 80th anniversary.

Speaking at the "Oluyole 2025" second reunion of Wema Bank's former staff under the umbrella of "Ex-Colleagues" to commemorate Wema Bank's 80th anniversary held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Jogor Event Centre, Ibadan, Adebise described the occasion as an opportunity not just for reunion but also for strategic reflection.

"This gathering holds a special place in our hearts, as it is not only an opportunity to reconnect with old friends and colleagues but also a platform to reflect on our shared experiences, appraise our socio-economic welfare, and collectively strategize on navigating the complexities of today's financial and economic landscape," he said.

Adebise's speech traversed the bank’s history of resilience, the present realities, and strategies for the future.

"As we gather here today, we must reflect on our journey so far — where we started, where we are, and most importantly, where we are headed," he added.

Tracing Wema Bank’s evolution, Adebise recalled its establishment in 1945 as Agbonmagbe Bank and subsequent acquisition by the Odu'a Group.

He said that despite early challenges such as weak capital, liquidity issues, and bureaucratic inefficiencies, strategic reforms, including investment in technology and workforce development, repositioned the bank for growth.

Adebise, however, noted the impact of the Structural Adjustment Programne in 1985, the 1991 Stock Exchange listing, various transformation programs, leadership transitions, and the acquisition of National Bank in 2006.

He also cited the 2008 financial crisis and the ongoing responses to regulatory changes, including the new recapitalization policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Acknowledging the harsh economic realities facing retirees and former staff, Adebise called for a deeper, more structured alumni engagement.

"There is immense value within this network of former staff — individuals with decades of experience, regional understanding, and deep-rooted relationships".

"Rather than allow this wealth of knowledge to lie dormant, we must harness it through purposeful engagement", he said.

He proposed initiatives such as establishing a welfare foundation, creating cooperative investment schemes, and forming an alumni council to collaborate with Wema Bank’s CSR team on community development projects.

"As we look to the future, it is imperative that we remain resolute in delivering value to our stakeholders," Adebise emphasized, stressing that success must now be measured by societal impact and inclusivity.

The Media Consultant of Loving Heart Hospitals has issued a retraction statement on behalf of the hospital's proprietor, Dr. Adekunle Oluwaseun Awolaja, regarding a previous news report involving a petition against Dr. Sokunbi, Director of Hospital Services at the Ogun State Ministry of Health.

The statement clarified that there is a cordial relationship between the parties involved, despite the hospital's closure due to non-registration. The issue was resolved through the intervention of the Ogun State government, with notable contributions from the Chairman of the House Committee on Health, Hon. Egungbohun, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, the Majority Leader of the Ogun State House of Assembly, and other leaders.

Dr. Awolaja described Dr. Sokunbi as a respected medical elder and recounted their friendly encounter. He assured that Loving Heart Hospital would comply with the Ministry of Health's requirements for registration and apologized for any inconvenience caused.

The hospital's proprietor emphasized their commitment to meeting the necessary standards and regulations to provide quality healthcare services in the state.

A 2 day free medical checkup, drug and treatment put together by the LifeGate Humanitarian and Well Being Support will take place between 28th and 29th April, 2025.

Venue of the Medical Outreach is the Trade Fair Complex, Oke Mosan Abeokuta beginning from 10 am daily.

The Country's Director of the LifeGate humanitarian and Well Being support , Mr Olawale Shodeinde in a statement said the medical outreach is geared towards assisting the less privileged  within and outside Abeokuta.


Mr Shodeinde said about one thousand residents of Ogun State will undergo screening in Diabetes mellitus, Essential Hypertension, Upper And Lower Respiratory Infections and Urinary Tract Infections.


He listed Other areas of the screening  include Arthritis, Cervical and Lumbar Spondylosis and Acute and Chronic Pain management, adding that free drugs will be dispensed to the beneficiaries.

The LifeGate Humanitarian country's director pointed out that the founder and BOT chairperson, Mrs Bukola Kóredé and the co founder, Mrs Oludotun Adedehinbo have promised to give the project the needed support towards recording significant success.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun says his administration has invested over 2 points 25 Billion naira with the support from relevant partners to promote aquaculture, towards ensuring food security, job creation, and sustainable livelihood.

Governor Abiodun who made this known during the official flag off of Fish Harvest at Ijako-Ota in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the State, noted that his administration was reducing undue dependence on imports and positioning the State as a leader in inland aquaculture.


Represented by his Deputy Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, the governor said the event was about celebrating real cultivation and people-focused progress in the state, appreciating the World Bank and the OGSTEP team for their continued support as well as commitment towards improving the livelihood of its citizenry.


Describing agriculture as a serious economic enterprise, Governor Abiodun reaffirmed his administration's commitment to scaling the cluster model across the State, continue to provide access to finance, inputs, infrastructure, markets, and technology, all in bid to make Ogun State the preferred destination for agribusiness in Nigeria.


Earlier, the commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon Bolu Owotomo said the OGSTEP aquaculture value chain initiative has significantly impacted fish farming across the four Zones , aggregating approximately 3,400 beneficiary farmers statewide with government supplying over 179,000 bags of fish feed to fish farmers in the past 18 months.


 Hon Owootomo explained that the Trusted Fish Cluster in Ijako Isorosi with about 700 beneficiary farmers managing 983 ponds have received approximately 27,000 bags of feed, averaging 72 bags per farmer ,while 30 per cent matching grant support on fish feed averaging #864,000 per farmer with total intervention cost in the cluster estimated at 340 ,million naira, adding that the expected harvest from these beneficiaries was around 700 tonnes , projected to generate 1 points 9 billion in sales revenue.


Responding, the Project Coordinator OGSTEP, Mrs. Mosun Owo-Odusi said noted that the flag-off of the fish harvest was not just celebration of hard work but a testimony to what could be achieved when the right structures are  in place describing the successes recorded as largely due to the unwavering support received from the Ogun State Government and other stakeholders.

Thanks to the proactive leadership of the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, the state has undergone a remarkable transformation in anticipation of this national event. Sporting facilities in the state have received significant upgrades - stadiums revamped, tracks relaid, modern equipment installed, and support structures elevated to national standards. This facelift is more than preparation; it is an investment in the state’s future.

Ogun can generate continuous revenue and employment, turning temporary excitement into long-term growth, but of course ensuring that the newly-refurbished football pitch is not tampered with.

3. Promoting Health and Inclusion: Recommissioned sports centers can be used to encourage fitness, recreation, and social engagement for all residents, not just elite athletes.


4. Attracting Investment: A functional, well-maintained sports infrastructure is a magnet for private sector interest- from academies to sponsorships to tourism packages. This is Ogun’s chance to become a year-round hub for sports and recreation in Nigeria.

The Main Organizing Committee (MOC) for the 22nd National Sports Festival led by the Director General of the National Sports Commission NSC, Hon. Bukola Olopade has given the final nod for the festival to proceed as scheduled, citing the impressive world-class facilities in place.

After a thorough inspection of the venues, the MOC expressed satisfaction with the state-of-the-art infrastructure at the Alake Sports Centre in Ijeja, and the MKO Abiola Stadium.The committee's decision to greenlight the festival underscores the confidence in Ogun State's ability to host a successful event.

In the same vein, Olympic Gold medalist and President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) Daniel igali also recently visited the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta and was particularly happy with the newly laid tartan tracks. Technical directors and sport commissioners from across the country also visited the facilities and gave kudos to the Ogun state government for its giant strides in ensuring that no stone is left unturned as far as sports development is concerned.

As May 16 approaches, let us applaud the Ogun State Government for boldly stepping into the spotlight. The preparations already show promise, now the entire nation watches in anticipation.

And when the final medal is awarded on May 30, let it not mark an ending, but a beginning, the start of a new era where Ogun’s investment in sport continues to deliver dividends in pride, progress, and prosperity.

IN just a matter of days, all roads will lead to the Gateway State for the 26th edition of the iconic National Sports Festival (NSF). The festival, a celebration of Nigeria’s rich sports and cultural heritage, is billed to feature athletes competing in 33 sporting events, and is bound to be Nigeria’s best so far given the huge investments that the Ogun State Government has made into it. A visit to the facilities, state-of-the-art in every sense, will confirm the readiness of the Dapo Abiodun-led administration to give Nigerians a fiesta to remember, a tournament like no other, and a moment of magic.



The 22nd NSF is set to kick off, and excitement is in the air in the Gateway State. Speaking during an assessment of the work done on the facilities being prepared for the festival, including the stadium, the Olympic-sized swimming pool, tennis courts, and the handball court behind the main bowl, as well as the Alake Sports Centre, all in Abeokuta, last week, Governor Abiodun hinted that they will not only be used for the upcoming festival but also other competitions, national and international. As he noted, the Gateway International Stadium, which is being renovated in preparation for the NSF, has already been selected by the African Athletics Federation to host the Under-20 athletics competition in 2026, which is why the stadium will no longer be available for non-sporting events in the state once it receives the finishing touches for the NSF. There is, of course a silver lining for owanbe (party) lovers and fun seekers who may feel short-changed by this decision: the government is constructing a pavilion behind the stadium to cater to non-sporting events.



Sports, the Governor seems to be saying, is big business and the Gateway State is poised to treat it as such, in line with global thinking. That is why the newly laid tracks, including the long distance tracks, long jump track, tennis court, basket ball court, handball court and squash hall at the mainbowl and the Alake Sports Centre, including the multipurpose hall, are such a beauty to behold. Go to the mainbowl of the MKO Abiola Stadium and behold the synthetic grass: it’s simply breathtaking. Hear an apparently excited Governor Abiodun: "The track that we installed here has already begun to reap benefits. The African Athletics Federation, because of the quality of our tracks, has chosen Ogun State to host the athletics competition in 2026 for the Under-20. So, you find that based on what we have done, Ogun State will now become home to other world-class competitions across the country, across Sub-Saharan Africa, and even internationally. For us, we are already excited that this investment has begun to yield dividends. This will be one of the legacies of our administration. Let me assure you that the stadium will only be used for sporting activities. To that extent, we've chosen to construct a pavilion somewhere behind the stadium, and that pavilion will now be used for rallies, parties, march pasts, October 1 celebrations, Labour Day celebrations, community days, and Democracy Day. "Our MKO AbiolaInternational Stadium has now gone beyond being just an MKO Abiola International Stadium; it is now an MKO AbiolaSporting Complex.”


With no less than 15,000 people billed to attend the NSF, the Abiodun government has been busy re-engineering the entire Ogun landscape. Among other things, it is giving the OlumoRock Tourist Center and other adjoining tourist centers a massive facelift to give visitors an unbeatable experience as the festival goes underway. The Governor articulates his vision so masterfully: "The festival itself will allow us to host maybe 15,000 people in the city of Abeokuta. You can imagine that those people will be eating and drinking; they will be transported back and forth. They will be buying recharge cards and water. They will be visiting our tourist sites. We are getting Olumo Rock and other adjoining tourist centers ready for the games. There will be a lot of visitors sleeping in hotels. The economic impact of this festival on the economy of this state can best be imagined; the multiplier effect will be felt more after the games.”

As an aside, the Ogun helmsman is engineering moves to make the Gateway State to get a fat slice of this year’s DettyDecember visits by Nigerians in the disapora, taking advantage of the state’s proximity to Lagos. In any case, ahead of the NSF, Ogun State is partnering the arts and culture company, Terra Kulture, to establish a film and entertainment village in the state.As Governor Abiodun posited, the film village will help the state to preserve the legacies of those who have pioneered and excelled in the fields of music, film, drama, and entertainment.Governor Abiodun made this known when he received the Chief Executive Officer of Terra Kulture, Bolanle Austen Peters, in his Oke-Mosan office in Abeokuta. His words: “From the onset of our administration, we always wanted to have some sort of creative arts and entertainment zone, but when we assumed office, the government was laden with so many priorities. We wanted to ensure that we first paid attention to matters that touch the lives of the people directly. Because it is only when you are comfortable and happy that you will begin to think of relaxing and being entertained; we had to do that. We are confident that we have not just accomplished that; we've made the most of it, and our focus in the last year has been how to push the frontier in the areas of culture, music, and entertainment.”

Only an ignoramus will doubt the view that the NSF creates an opportunity for new talents to be discovered for both national and international sporting meets. It cannot but be cheering news that what the Abiodun administration has done with the investment in sporting facilities in the state is second to none.Indeed, in choosing Ogun as the 2024 NSF host, the Federal Government took ample notice of the massive infrastructure upgrade across the state, and it is in fact no coincidence that Bukola Olopade, the man that the Ogun State Government chose as the chair of the festival’s Local Organising Committee (LOC ), has just been appointed as the chairman of the National Sports Department Agency. It is certain that he will bring his wealth of experience to bear on the assignment and help Ogun make history as it hosts the NSF. The Ogun State government, as attested to by many, has created an enabling environment for business, and investors are moving into state in droves, buoyed by the deeply enhance infrastructure outlay.

A visit to the state will show that the government is indeed upgrading structures to attract tourists and give visitors a wow experience. No doubt, Ogun 2025 will expose state talents that will represent Nigeria, promote unity, and ensure brisk business for hoteliers, food entrepreneurs, dealers in clothing fabric, among others. Visit Ogun for the NSF, and have a fun-filled moment.

The male football team of Baptist Boys High School have emerged as the champions of the 2025 edition of Lísàbí football competition.

The girls from Orile Ilugun defeated their counterpart from Olusegun Odegbami football academy, Wasinmi by four goals to two.

The coach Ebidowei Oweifie led football team came from a goal down to beat their arch rival, Abeokuta Grammar School by two goals to one in the final of the competition played at the Abeokuta grammar School football pitch, Idi Àbà.

Coach Oweifie who expressed satisfaction with the performance of the team encouraged the old boys of the school to support the project embarked upon by the Director General, National Sports Commission, Chief Bukola Olopade.

Chief Olopade who was represented by the President, Wheelchair Basketball Federation of Nigeria, Mr Seyi Johnson expressed delight for team's dedication to defend the title they won in 2024.

Ogun State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya has commended Ministry of Forestry for encouraging pubic servants to cultivate the habit of planting trees.

He gave the commendation while performing symbolic planting of trees at this year's World Forestry Day celebration at the open field opposite House of Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan Abeokuta.

The head of service noted that sustainability of tree planting will make the environment green and ward off avoidable ailments.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Forestry, Engr. Taiwo Oludotun explained that the day is to create awareness on the importance of planting trees.

Oludotun said in accordance with this year's theme "Forest and Food" planting trees is to purify the air, give shelter, serve as raw materials for industries and provide food for all and sundry.

" Ogun State is the industrial capital of Nigeria and the rate of emission can not be compared to other states, planting of trees is to purify the air, it gives shelter, provides food and serve as raw materials for industries" He said.

In his remark, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Adekunle Oyesawen revealed that the ministry has engaged private partners and stakeholders in planting of trees to sustain the environment.

Also speaking, the Project Manager Ogun State Forestry Project Area J4, Mr. Olukayode Sonibare, said forest professionals are doing everything possible to ensure the forest reserves are protected from exploitation.

In his goodwill message the Chairman Forestry Association of Nigeria, Ogun State chapter, Otunba Jide Fakayode said the significance of the day is to enlighten the public that you don't just exploit but as you are exploiting you are also replacing and replanting.

Ogun State government is to commence house-to-house operation show your waste receipt initiative as part of the efforts to address the challenge of dumping of refuse on water ways and drainage channels in the state.

The Commissioner for Environment, Dr Ola Oresanya who announced this in Abeokuta during the 2025 flood alert said the ministry would work with the local government chairmen in the state.

Dr Oresanya explained that those who are unable to produce the receipt will be charged for dumping their wastes indiscriminately.

He reiterated the determination of Prince Dapo Abiodun le administration to mitigate the impact of flood in the sixteen local government areas of the state as predicted by the Nigeria Metrological Agency, NIMET.

Dr Oresanya said the prediction by NIMET indicated that the state would experience a Little Dry Spell between now and July while the Severe Dry Spell would take place between April and June.

The environment commissioner gave the assurance that the state government would continue to take proactive steps to mitigate the effects of flood through the delisting of rivers, streams and drainage channels, construction of drainages and culverts in some parts of the state.


Dr Oresanya advised residents of Ijebu-Ode, Ota, Owode, Abeokuta, Onihale in Ifo, Sagamu, Iperu and Ilishan to be wary of flash flood expected between March and July, while those living on floodplains of Isheri, Akute, Warewa, Sokori, Arakanga and Onikoko River among others places were advised to relocate to safer grounds before the coastal flood between September and November.

Few Days ago , the Ogun State Government under the leadership of Prince Dapo Abiodun, the governor of Ogun state moved drastically to continue to fill the infrastructural deficit across the state as it approved the reconstruction of 11 roads across the three senatorial districts.

The step according to state government source was part of the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting held over the weekend, presided over by Governor Dapo Abiodun.

Notable among the roads is the Akute Bridge to Agbado (Lateef Jakande) Train Terminal/Pass/Agbado Bridge, with a length of 9.2 km.

The construction of lay-bys and some adjoining roads was also approved along with the main contract.

Also approved for reconstruction are the Iperu Junction to Ilishan Roundabout (Gateway International Airport Road), with a length of 5.5 km; Imasayi-Igan Okoto-Ayetoro Road Phase 2B (4 km); Imasayi (end of phase 1) to Igan Okoto, Phase 2A (3 km); and Gao Junction to Ibiade Road (3.8 km).

Others are Abeokuta Obalende-Ijebu Ode (2.75 km); Osinubi New Road (Araromi Street) Ijebu Ode (1.1 km); Tam Balogun, Ijebu Ode (0.85 km); Federal College Road, Odogbolu (2.93 km); General Hospital-Aferiku, Ipokia (2.8 km); and Oke Erinja to Erinja to Ilobi Road, Phase 2 (1.7 km).

As a home boy and now man, some of these roads earmarked by the present administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun have been in a state of disrepair even before he came on board in May 29, 2019. But, the governor before now and even till now has been a deep thinker, a man of vision and style. As a business expert and a major player in the nation's economy, Governor Abiodun understands the key role infrastructure plays in the socio-economic development of the sub nationals and the country.

Of course, infrastructure is the backbone of a nation’s development, and investment in transport infrastructure, with good roads in particular must be a crucial component of its foundation, simply because roads are the arteries through which the economy pulses.

Ordinarily, roads enhance and aids connectivity and fast track commerce, economic growth, and integration. It ensures the ease of movement for people, their goods, and services, as well as fostering social interaction and cohesion among the entire population.

If there are good roads, just like the present administration is putting in places across the state, then residents and those that have one or two things to do in the state especially business transactions and activities would do that with comfortability and so fast.

Since inception as the governor of Ogun state, his steady efforts in road construction and rehabilitation has assists in providing equal levels of public services, in terms of security, schooling, health care, and many others in every nook and cranies of the state.

When there are good road networks, there are lots of improvements aside from the aesthetic advantage. It quikens development, it attracts investors, in terms of security, helps security agents to move fast to the scene of crime and even in terms of emergency, it reduces loss of lives and property.

Ogun State is a gateway state and door to many opportunities coming into Nigeria through the Southwest states and with good road networks, there would not be hinderance to essential goods and services from the rural areas, which in turn can hinder commercialization and industrialization, thus contributing to the rising inflation, which in turn impacts goods and services, especially in rural areas of the state.

Governor Dapo Abiodun effort in investing in road infrastructure has ensured economic growth and reduced poverty in the state and ensured safety.

One can then conclude that road quality and accessibility is the surest way towards Ogun state progress and development, which thankfully, gov Dapo Abiodun has already set in motion for the development of the state and generations yet unborn.

16 people have been presumed dead while 3 other persons sustained varying degrees of injuries in a fatal crash that occurred at Buhari Estate, along the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The lone crash which occurred around 1 O'clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, 4th March, 2025 involved a White Mazda Bus with registration number KJA949YJ

The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Ogun Sector Command, Mr Akinwumi Fasakin confirmed the incident in a statement through the Coprs' Public Education Officer, Mrs Florence Okpe.

Mr Fasakin noted that the people involved in the crash were burnt beyond recognition, making it difficult to ascertain their gender adding the injured victims had taken to Federal Medical Centre, Idi Aba, Abeokuta.

He pointed that the suspected cause of the crash was fire outbreak in the vehicle that was also having a filled gas cylinder in it, which led to the explosion.

Attributing the fatal crash to the carelessness on the part of the driver for agreeing to carry a cylinder filled with gas, the FRSC sector commander said that highly flammable items should be transported with care and by designated vehicles driven by trained drivers only.

While sympathising with the families of the deceased, Mr Fasakin advised motorists and passengers to put safety first while using the roads.

Burial activities for late madam Marian Olabisi Agbebiyi will begin on Friday 7th March, 2025 with a lying in-state and wake keep.

A statement by one of the grand daughters of the deceased, Pastor (Mrs) Motunrayo Kehinde indicates that the funeral service will be held on Saturday, 8th March, 2025 at Foursquare Gospel Church, 16 Sanjo Majekodunmi street Olorunsogo Abeokuta beginning from 10 in the morning.

The statement adds that entertainment of guests will take place at Abeokuta Grammar School Hall, Idi Aba, Abeokuta.

The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has given the sum of six million naira to the best graduating students of the Ogun State Institute of Technology (OGITECH), Igbesa.

The reward was in line with Prince Abiodun administration commitment to enhancing and rewarding excellence in education for the 2021/2022, 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 academic sessions of the fastest growing technological citadel in Nigeria.

Similarly , the leadership of the institution, in addition to the governor’s largesse, also gave the three overall best students a sum of two hundred thousand naira each for their efforts.

The governor who made the declaration during the 6th Combined Convocation Ceremony of the Institution yesterday, added that the occasion was not only a moment of pride for the graduates, but also for their parents, guardians, lecturers, and everyone who have played a pivotal role in shaping their journey to success.


The governor, represented by his Deputy, Engr Noimot Salako-Oyedele congratulated the institution on the successful hosting of the event, saying it marked a significant milestone in the lives of the new graduates as they transition from academic pursuit to making meaningful contributions to the society.

Prince Abiodun stressed that in Ogun State, government recognised the fact that quality education and innovation are critical to sustainable development in today’s rapidly evolving world, hence the reason his administration is committed to delivering high quality education that meets global standards.

In his Convocation Lecture themed ‘Technological Education and the Realities of the Nigerian Industrial Advancement’, the guest lecturer, Prof Ramon Adisa Bello, examined the nature and characteristics of the ongoing Industrial revolution world, noting that it was global in nature making working remotely the order of the day.

Prof Bello explained that the ongoing industrial revolution is one that would bring with it a lot of changes to how things are done and how we live, stressing that in Nigeria, Industrial development will have to advance with the nature of industry 5.0 template, in order for it to catch up and play a rewarding game in the competition ahead.

He said that there is the need for adequate basics to be entrenched particularly in human resource development, especially the skilling of young Nigerians.

While emphasising that the Ogun State Institute of Technology was well placed to play key roles in the upcoming technical advancement in Nigeria and globally, he charged the graduands to stay true to themselves, embrace change with an open mind, saying they should carry with them lessons learnt in the institution, while going confidently in the direction of their dreams.

In his remarks, the Rector of the institution, Dr. Abiodun Oluseye noted that OGITECH, a Technical Hub was the one of the fastest growing citadels of technology in Nigeria, revealing that all the courses currently running in the institution have been adequately accredited by the National Board for Technical Education , he also revealed that a total of nine thousand, three hundred and twenty students were graduating in the 6th Combined Convocation Ceremony.

The Rector who appreciated the state governor for his preferment as the third substantive rector of the institution, further explained that the institution is geared towards imbuing in its students not only with sound educational knowledge but also with contemporaneous hands-on skills and values capable of emplacing them on exalted pedestals anywhere in the world.

The Acting Chairman Governing Council of the Institution, Evangelist Kehinde Akinsoji , in his address also appreciated the state governor , Prince Dayo Abiodun for making himself and other members worthy enough to serve on the council. He added that since they assumed office, many notable achievements had been recorded in the institution.

In his Valedictory speech, the overall best graduating student of the 2023/2024 academic session, Ismail Afeez Olamilekan gave accolades to the institution for the values instilled in them, saying that it has helped shape them into the people they have become.

He charged his colleagues to remain optimistic, determined and focused as they continue in the journey of life, saying that though the day marks the end of a phase, it also marks the beginning of another journey in their lives, hence the need for them to be resolute in making something out of themselves.

Amongst notable personalities who were conferred Honourary Fellowship awards was the wife of the Governor of Ogun State, Mrs Bamidele Abiodun, who appreciated the institution for the honour, saying the recognition is one that she holds dear to her heart specifically because it a breeding ground for world class innovators and change-makers.

The Ogun State Wrestling Association has expressed shock over the demise of a renowned coach and retired wrestler, Mr Amos Adekunle Ojo.

Mr Amos Adekunle Ojo popularly referred to as The Indomitable African Tiger died at the age of 68 after a brief illness.

The deceased was a 7-time African Gold Medalist, 3-time Commonwealth Gold Medalist, 2-time World Champion, appeared 2 times at the Seoul 1988 and Barcelona 1992 Olympics and had 6 gold medals in his credit at the Gold National Sports Festival.

The Chairman of the Association, Dr Abimbola Taofeek Babalola in a condolence message commiserated with the entire members of the family, Ogun State and the wrestling association.

Dr Babalola described the late retired wrestler as versatile, visionary and exemplary leader who had contributed to the growth of Wrestling in the country and the state, adding that his death came when his wealth of experience and services are needed as the state prepares for the National Sports Festival.

The Ogun State Wrestling Association Chairman prayed God Almighty to grant the deceased the needed rest and give the family and loved ones the fortitude to bear the loss.

In his tribute, the head coach of the Wrestling in the state, Mr Badmus Adebayo said the deceased had left in an indelible footprints that would stand the test of time.

Coach Adebayo described the late Amos Adekunle Ojo's long term achievements as a testament to his dedication, perseverance, and love for wrestling.

He said the deceased had inspired countless young wrestlers, coaches, and fans with his passion, dedication, and sportsmanship.

Coach Adebayo said that a seven day free training exercise had been declared to honour the late wrestling icon.

According to the Media Officer officer of the association, Olusegun Folarin, Coach Amos Adekunle Ojo was born in Imesi-Ile, Ekiti State, and joined the Ogun State Wrestling Association in 1976 and went on to serve as the Head Coach until his retirement in 2010.

From 2010 to 2022 after his retirement, he served as the Technical Adviser of the Ogun State Wrestling Association, imparting his knowledge and experience to a new generation of wrestlers.

The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has charged new Corps members to work towards promoting the needed peaceful co-existence that will engender socio-economic development of their host communities and the state at large.

Governor Abiodun, who stated this while delivering his address at the Swearing-in ceremony of the 2024 Batch C, Stream II of the National Youth Service Corps, at the Gateway International Stadium, Sagamu, urged them to demonstrate loyalty, dedication, discipline and patriotism in their daily activities.

Represented by Commissioner of Sports Development, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka, the Governor revealed that the State is a leader in youth development initiatives, focusing on job creation, poverty alleviation and food security.

He explained that his administration has implemented various initiatives, including vocational training, entrepreneurship development programmes, scholarships, mentorship programmes, sports and recreational activities, saying these initiatives were aimed at creating a generation of resourceful and self-reliant young people.

"As an administration, we recognise the invaluable role of youth as the driving force behind economic, social and political transformation. Our commitment to youth empowerment is reflected in the numerous programmes designed to equip young people with skills, knowledge and opportunities," Gov. Abiodun said.

Governor Abiodun said that the programme would equip corps members with practical, social and leadership skills essential for moving the country forward, enjoining them to embrace the rigours of the orientation programme,.

Earlier, the State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs. Olayinka Nasamu had maintained that the 3-weeks orientation exercise was structured and regimented and designed to instill in the corps members with mindset of discipline and sense of self-reliance that would enable confront challenges ahead during and after the service year.

She advised them to identify the social needs of their host communities during their period of service and work towards addressing them, encouraging them to learn at least two skills for self-reliance and self-sustenance towards becoming an employer of labour, as white-collar jobs could not access easily.

According to Information/Public Relations Officer, Sports Development, Ayobami Disu, a total of 2, 665 young graduates were registered, comprising 1, 106 males and 1, 559 females.

Organiser of 14th Gateway International Trade Fair scheduled for February 7th to 17th, 2025 at the M.K.O Abiola Trade Fair Complex Abeokuta, has been charged to fully assume leadership role for the exhibition, mobilise corporate organisations and work towards improving on past achievements.

Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Adebola Sofela gave the charge during the Press Conference held in Abeokuta to herald this year’s edition which is themed, “Promoting Business through Partnership” assuring that the State government would not renege in providing enabling environment for the continuous success of the Trade Fair.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Olu. Ola. Aikulola, Mr Sofela who listed past support of the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration to include, the enhancement of the M.K.O Abiola Trade Fair Complex, provision of other critical infrastructure like perimeter fencing, a transformer, consistent financial support among others which had aided the continuous improvement of the event assured that the Ministry would not abandon the Chambers.

“As the organisers of this prestigious fair, I encourage OGUNCCIMA to fully assume her leadership role in ensuring the success of this event. The Gateway International Trade Fair is your fountain, your legacy and your responsibility to uphold. While the government has been instrumental in demonstrating effective strategies in past editions, it is important to reiterate that our primary role is to create enabling environment for businesses to thrive,” Sofela charged.

He continued: “in alignment with our promise, the Ministry has already taken proactive steps in response to your requests, we have reached out to relevant stakeholders. If there are additional assistance required, please do not hesitate to engage us.”

The Commissioner who commended the OGUNCCIMA for its unwavering commitment to promoting trade, investment and industrialization through the Fair urged the Chambers to leverage the industrial hub status of the State by attracting diverse participation from the abundant pool of industries operating in the Gateway State including members of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN).

In his address, the President OGUNCCIMA, Lion Niyi Osiyemi stated that all efforts were in top gear towards meeting set targets for the Trade Fair adding that this year’s event promises to be bigger and better than past editions.

Osiyemi disclosed that the Chambers had embarked on familiarisation tours to create more awareness about the benefits of joining the Business membership Organisation promising to intensify efforts on the area of familiarization with industries ahead of future editions of the Trade Fair.

The Director General, National Sports Commission, Chief Bukola Olopade, Ogun State Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka are part of the dignitaries expected to attend the 2024 End of the year events put together by All Stars Football Club Abeokuta.

The event slated for Saturday, 25th January, 2025 will be held at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto Abeokuta beginning from 8am.

Other dignitaries according to the President of the Club, Alhaji Lawal Adeoye include, NFF board member, Alhaji Ganiyu Majekodunmi, SWAN Chairman, Comrade Michael-Azeez Ogunsiji, Chairman, Abeokuta South Local Government, Hon. Balogun Olaniyi Afeez.

Others are; Team Manager, Gateway United FC, Mr Dare Osunsanya, Acting GM, Gateway United, Mr Niyi Soleye and PS Ogun State Ministry of Sports Development, Mr Lanre Ogunyinka.

The Pastor in charge of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG Throne of Grace Parish, Olorunsogo Abeokuta, Pastor Francis Kehinde has encouraged Christians to be upright and diligent in their dealings to enable them to flourish in 2025.

Pastor Kehinde made the call in a sermon at the Church entitled "I shall Flourish"

Taking his text from the book of Psalm chapter 92 verse 12, the religion leader also stressed the need for the faithful to contribute their quota towards development of building a virile society.

He noted that Christians should take a cue from the characteristics of a Palm Tree which he listed to include, ability to withstand pressure, being useful, avoiding double identity to enable the faithful in 2025.

A former Nigerian Ambassador to Spain, Chief (Mrs.) Susan Aderonke Folarin, has been described as an epitome of selflessness, whose contributions to the development of Ogun State and the well-being of its people have been immense and altruistic.

Former Governor of Ogun State and two-term Senator, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, made this remark during the 80th birthday celebration in honour of Ambassador Folarin, held at the Obasanjo Presidential Library Event Center, Abeokuta, praising the celebrant’s dependability and unwavering commitment to the service of her State and country.

Amosun stated that Ambassador Folarin demonstrated dedication and commitment throughout her public service career, both within Nigeria and in diplomatic service abroad, describing her as a role model.

"Ambassador Folarin is one of those rare individuals who willingly plant trees under whose shade they may never sit. She has touched countless lives, not just her biological children but also many others whom she may not even remember. That, to me, is the hallmark of a truly God-fearing person."

"If you assign Ambassador Folarin a task, you can rest assured that it will be executed with fairness, justice, and equity," the former governor added.

Also speaking, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, who was represented by the Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, congratulated the celebrant on her 80th birthday and attributed her remarkable achievements to divine grace, which he said called for even greater celebration.

Abiodun highlighted Ambassador Folarin’s immense contributions to the development of her community, Ogun State, and the nation at large.

He emphasized that the celebration was not merely about longevity but also a tribute to a lifetime of impactful service, unwavering dedication, and extraordinary achievements.

Governor Abiodun reiterated his administration’s commitment to recognizing and appreciating the contributions of elders and progenitors while they are still alive, adding that the state government would continue to draw inspiration from their wisdom to ensure the success of its developmental agenda.

"As an administration, we remain committed to drawing inspiration from our elders, as they form the foundation of our ‘Building Our Future Together’ agenda," he stated.

"We are dedicated to upholding the values exemplified by this distinguished octogenarian, particularly in the areas of good governance, transparency, accountability, and inclusivity."

"Let me reassure our esteemed elder statesmen and women that we will continue to support, recognise, and celebrate notable sons and daughters of Ogun State for their invaluable contributions to the growth and development of humanity," Abiodun added.

In his remarks, the Olowu of Owu, Oba Saka Matemilola, congratulated Ambassador Folarin on living a fulfilled and exemplary life, urging her to remain grateful to God, as not everyone is blessed with the grace to attain old age with honor and dignity.

Earlier in his sermon, retired Bishop of the Osun State Anglican Diocese, Bishop James Afolabi Popoola, advised the celebrant to cultivate a spirit of forgiveness, emphasising that letting go of past grievances is essential for continued joy and divine blessings.

In her response, Chief (Mrs.) Susan Aderonke Folarin expressed profound gratitude to God for her life and appreciated all those who had contributed positively to her journey.

She pledged to continue playing her part in uplifting the less privileged in society, both morally and financially.

Workers in the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment have been encouraged to redouble their efforts in the new year 2025 to further achieve the mandate spelt out in the ISEYA Agenda of the present administration in Ogun State.

Speaking at the New Year Prayer and Thanksgiving organised by the Ministry, Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Adebola Sofela, said the first responsibility of civil and public servants was to offer services to the people of the State in line with the agenda of the government.

He said the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led government had given the roadmap towards widening the State horizon in the area of industrialization, pointing out that the enormous expectation on the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment was to execute the government’s policies and programs that ensures our economic development ,attract new investment and creating an enabling environment for the existing ones to upscale their capacity .

Thanking the entire workforce under his leadership for the outstanding results of the previous year, the Commissioner emphasised the need to start articulating and executing the 2025 plans with emphasis on time management, integrity transparency ,accountability and productivity

“This new year, I want to urge you to engage in self development while you redouble your efforts to achieve the set goals. The scripture is clear on matching your faith with action as it says faith without works is dead.

“I appreciate all of you for the commendations we received in 2024 which were the output of team work and efforts. It is important we work in tandem with the vision encapsulated in the ISEYA agenda to sustain the drive considering the important position of our sector, “ he said.

Earlier, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Mineral Resources Development, Professor Kayode Oyedele advised workers to embrace the year with renewed energy and passion, just as he underscored the benefits to learn, re-learn and unlearn to achieve human and societal development.

On his part, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Olu. Ola. Aikulola, urged the workers to be better versions of themselves, noting that areas of punctuality , dedication to work and integrity must be improved upon in the new year.

Also, the Senior Special Assistant, Hon. Sunday Olalekan Oyesanya, underscored the need for the promotion of team spirit in achieving the set goals, adding that raising the bar of excellence was an achievable goal.

The peace presently enjoying across Ibadanland may soon be brought to an end abruptly as facts recently emerged that the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin may be removed anytime from now if feelers at our disposal is anything to be trusted.

The alleged plan removal is said to be at his final stage with a purported letter to be on its way to the table of the Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde.

The plan being allegedly perfected by two Obas in Olubadan traditional council (names withheld) are sad to be as a result of medical state of the Ibadan monarch.

One of the Oba's who is know to be a close associate and spokesperson for late Oba Lekan Balogun and is known for his trouble making in Ibadan is also said to be close confidant of Governor Seyi Makinde.

It will be recalled that during the appointment and installation of Oba Olakulehin, these two Obas became so vocal and antagonizing to the extent that they nearly nullified and truncate the kingship of Oba Olakulehin if not for God and Gov Makinde as well as the cries of Ibadan indigenes.

Since Oba Olakulehin ascension to the throne of his fore fathers, the two Obas have not been too happy with his kingship and they had been putting up different plans to dethrone the king.

But on the side of Oba Olakulehin is the most senior Oba and Oyo State former governor who is making sure that the plan will not materialize.

He's also said to be having behind him some other senior members of the traditional council among whom is a serving Senator.

It will be recalled that a scenario of this nature had happened in 2017 when some newly coronated Oba's with the backing of the state government threatened to remove the then Olubadan, Late Oba Soliu Adetunji.

According to a palace source, he said "yes, we are also hearing something of such but we keep our fingers crossed to see whether such can happen."

When asked about Olubadans health status confirmed "Olubadan is hale and hearty and medically fit aside from teething old age related issues, which are normal."

It will also be recalled that in 2017, Ibadan mogajis were divided into two namely Recognise mogaji"s led by Mogaji Ariori and the Authentic Mogajis.

While Rècognise Mogaji's supported former Governor Abiola Ajimobi’s government steps to crowned members of Olubadan traditional council, the Authentic mogajis were with the then late Olubadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji and Oba Rashidi Ladoja.

Governor Dapo Abiodun has approved the immediate payment of 20 thousand naira for the payment of Christmas bonus to members of Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP, Ogun State chapter.

The Union had on Monday appealed to the governor to extend the payment of the Christmas bonus to NUP members in the state.

Confirming the kind gesture, the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP, in a letter addressed to the Governor and jointly signed by its Chairman, Alhaji Waheed Oloyede and Secretary, Comrade Bola Lawal respectively, described the development as first of its kind in the history of the State.

They described the Governor's love to them as "unquantifiable and of sincere goodwill", urging him to approve the consequential adjustments of pensions in the new year.

According to them, a peep into the platforms of the Pensioners, show different accolades: praises, appreciations and prayerful supplications towards you and your team for God's protection and multiple blessings over you all.

Pensioners in Ogun State have appealed to Governor Dapo Abiodun to extend the Christmas and End of the year bonus to them.

The State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP, in a letter jointly signed by its Chairman, Alhaji Waheed Oloyede and Secretary, Comrade Bola Lawal to the Governor and made available to newsmen in Abeokuta, noted that the extension of the bonus would further enable them enjoy the bliss of seasonal celebration.

They also appreciated the Governor for the prompt payment of December pensions to them.

The NUP described the Christmas bonus to the State workforce as a proactive motivational gesture, saying that the act showed that the Governor is a superhuman, loving and compassionate personality.

Governor Dapo Abiodun had last week gave the State civil servants and workforce bonus for the Christmas.

Sustainable development at the community level is virtually impossible without the peaceful coexistence of residents and their deliberate attempt to foster mutual understanding, cooperation, and active participation in communal activities.

Commissioner III, Ogun State Teaching Service Commission, Hon. Majekodunmi Olanrewaju made this known during the maiden edition of the Ilupeju Obantoko Area Community Development Committee (ACDC) Day held at Morekete Primary School, Obantoko in Odeda Local Government of the state, charging communities within the ACDC to continue living in harmony.

Hon. Majekodunmi urged the communities to continue embarking on good developmental initiatives that would complement the Governor Dapo Abiodun's efforts at ensuring that the dividends of democracy cuts across all the nook and crannies of the State.

In his speech, the immediate past Chairman of Ilupeju Obantoko ACDC, Comrade Babatunde Ogunseye, described the event as the first of its kind and a good initiative that would continue to encourage unity and aid the development of every CDA under the Ilupeju Obantoko Development Association.

He enjoined the present executives to work towards sustainability of the event at least once every three years, urging them to continue working with members of the communities to ensure development.

Delivering his speech, the Chairman of Ilupeju Obantoko ACDC, Comrade Oloye Kehinde Oladimeji, explained that it is time to reflect on the collective achievements and to encourage the possibilities that lies ahead.

He affirmed that the ceremony and get-together were not only meant to commemorate the passing of time but also serve as a unifying force in bringing together all the stakeholders in the various communities.

While giving an account of his stewardship in the last year, Comrade Oladimeji stated that his administration had procured, energized, and commissioned the Ikija transformer, provided free summer coaching and writing materials for students, and initiated the construction of a modern health center at Tinrinmi, among other developmental projects.

Also speaking, the Zonal Rep. for Odeda, Alhaja Hanefat Sonoiki, confirmed that about 44 Community Development Associations (CDAs) were under Ilupeju Obantoko ACDC, saying that their relationships are cordial without any rancor.

She urged the present executives to continue the good work and dedication to the betterment of all and sundry.

who have contributed positively to the development of the CDC, the decoration of Onitoko of Obantoko, HRM Oba Kehinde Adesanu and Divisional Police Officer, Aregbe Division, CSP Rasak Adeoye as Patrons respectively, Chief (Mrs) Titilayo Saliu Ilupeju Obantoko ACDC and Chief (Mrs) Adeoti were decorated as Matrons while the presentation of certificates to new CDAs, took place among others activities.
