Ogun State government has urged Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to take advantage of the N200bn Presidential Intervention Fund, to boost their businesses.

Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Adebola Sofela made the appeal in Abeokuta, while delivering his keynote address at the Town Hall and sensitization programme for MSMEs and manufacturing enterprises on the Fund, which comprises of the N50bn Nano grant, N75bn Loan Scheme for big businesses and N75bn loan scheme for MSMEs.

Mr Sofela who was represented by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Trade, Mrs. Oluyemisi Somorin-Dawodu, explained that the Fund was designed to help enterprises to scale up businesses and strengthen the operational capacity of entrepreneurs, to enable them contribute effectively to the local and national economic development.

“Many entrepreneurs in the state have benefitted from the Nano grant and other loan schemes of the Fund at favourable terms for businesses, which are yielding results. The scheme is ongoing, and we are here today so that more entrepreneurs can be sensitised and their questions answered. We believe that more entrepreneurs will be able to benefit from this programme”, Sofela said.

He noted that the intervention aligns with the economic transformation of the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration, stating that different programmes had been facilitated to engender business growth, skill development, access to finance, and many more, with provision of infrastructure and implementation of business-friendly policies.

In his address, State Manager, Bank of Industry (BOI), Mr. Michael Agidani disclosed that the 75 billion naira loan scheme for MSMEs was available for existing small businesses and start-ups that had registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), adding that each business could borrow up to N1m with nine percent interest rate within fourth and sixth month, and repayable within three years, while enjoying a moratorium of three months.

In their responses, a laundry business owner, Mr. Daniel Olukoga and a member of the Association of Skilled and Vocational Artisans of Nigeria (ASVAN), Mr. Roshid Sodamola said the programme had proven to be beneficial to different entrepreneurs across the state.

FUNDmee, an innovative feature on the Mobile Classroom app, has been unveiled to offer students, parents, and lifelong learners a unique opportunity to raise free funding to cover school fees at any institution. Beyond tuition, users can also leverage the funds to access essential course materials from lecturers, fostering an enriched and affordable educational experience.

Through FUNDmee, the Mobile Classroom app introduces two powerful tools, ADfunding and FunDlenas, designed to support free education by engaging advertising budgets and drawing support from individuals, NGOs, corporations, religious organizations, alumni, and other associations. This collaborative approach allows users to seek tuition support through a sustainable model that aligns with the mission of accessible education for all.

According to Akeem Salami, Founder of the Mobile Classroom app, the Nigerian educational sector faces chronic underfunding across its key stakeholders—students, lecturers, and institutions. “It is essential that we explore alternative ways to fund education, rather than relying solely on government resources,” Salami stated. “With FUNDmee, we’re utilizing advertising budgets to help students fund their education, while brands still benefit from the ad exposure they seek.”

ADfunding on the Mobile Classroom app enables brand owners to advertise through videos, jingles, and banners that students can view to earn money toward their tuition or to purchase lecturers’ course materials. Advertisers pay per view, ensuring a “value-for-value” model where students gain financial support and advertisers receive audience engagement. This approach makes education more accessible without diminishing the impact or reach of ad campaigns.

FUNDlenas, the second feature of FUNDmee, allows learners to directly approach verified funders on the platform for specific support toward course materials or lecture access. Corporate entities, NGOs, foundations, religious groups, and alumni networks can establish funder accounts with a set budget, which students may apply for. Funders have the flexibility to review and approve applications, ensuring that funds are allocated purposefully within the educational ecosystem.

Funders retain control over their contributions through a personalized dashboard where they can track applications, deductions, and balances. Each application shows the specific class or material the learner seeks, ensuring transparency and accountability in how funds are used. This method aligns funders’ contributions with tangible educational outcomes.

Akeem Salami emphasized that the FUNDmee initiative ensures funds circulate within the educational system. By enabling students to fund their tuition and purchase lecturers’ materials, FUNDmee helps lecturers secure the financial means for research and institutions to strengthen infrastructure. To recognize contributors, the Mobile Classroom app will periodically publish the names and logos of supporting brands and individuals in national media, celebrating their role in advancing free education.

The Ogun state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has directed its’ members who owns accounts with Guaranty Trust Holding Company (GTbank) to shut it down with immediate effect.

The directives comes on the heels of continuous detention of a member of the council, Seun Odunlami in connection with an alleged investigative report involving the bank and it’s Chief Executive Officer, Segun Agbaje.

Recall that Seun Odunlami and 3 others were arrested in a gestapo manner, and has been remanded at the Ikoyi correctional centre for more than a month, with efforts to get bail proving difficult.

Speaking with newsmen at the council’s secretariat in Iwe iroyin, Abeokuta, on Monday, the Chairman of the council, Comrade Wale Olarenwaju noted that the offense with which Odunlami and others was accused of, is a bail-able offense, and being in detention for over 7 weeks is against their fundamental human rights.

Olarenwaju however called on the Federal Government and the National Assembly to further tinker with the Cybercrime Act of 2024 as amended, saying that the law has been used to cowed the media, with frivolous charges in courts.

” I stand before you with a heavy heart, compelled to address a deeply troubling matter involving the abduction and continued detention of an individual who is unjustly held under dubious circumstances.

“The manner in which this abduction was executed is alarming. It appears that the very institutions that are supposed to protect our citizens are being manipulated for personal agendas.

“This case, which we believe is characterized by a clear abuse of power, reveals a concerning trend where individuals are detained not based on lawful grounds, but rather through the influence of certain powerful entities.

“We must recognize that the use of police forces to enforce such actions is not just an infringement of rights, but a grave infraction on the principles of justice and democracy.

“It is important to stress that this individual is facing charges that are bailable, yet they remain trapped in a web of unlawful custody that violates their rights and undermines our justice system”.

“I hereby call on all journalists in Ogun state to close down their various accounts in GTbank. This also includes all chapels under the Ogun state council.

“I also call on other state councils to join us in this struggle to free our members.

“As we bring this issue to light, we urge anyone with information or influence to stand up against this injustice. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that all individuals receive fair treatment under the law, regardless of their circumstances or affiliations”, he said

Against the increasing economic challenges confronting Bread making in the country, the Premium Bread-Makers Association of Nigeria (PBAN) has empanelled a strategic body of industry experts to help engineer adaptive innovations in a dynamic bread making industry.

The experts will be gathering at the 2nd Edition of the Association's Day-Out in Lagos on the 21st November, 2024 to ex-ray the theme - "Innovations in a dynamic bread making industry: Using local and affordable alternative ingredients"

According to PBAN's President, Engineer Emmanuel Onuorahwho spoke ahead of the Day-Out, the stakeholders in the bread-making industry were desirous of seeking viable alternative options to remain cost effective in the business.

"We examined the dynamics of bread making business today, and we strongly believe that adaptive innovations are required to stay ahead of the unstable economic environment", Engineer Onuorah said.

He added that the operators and players in the industry needed cut-edge solutions in all areas of operations to remain competitive, noting that the assemblage of experts in this regard has become essential.

Former President , Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has lauded Professor Chinedum Peace Babalola, the outgoing Vice-Chancellor of Chrisland University, for her exemplary leadership and dedication to advancing higher education in Nigeria.

Chief Obasanjo who was speaking at a valedictory service held in Abeokuta, Ogun State, emphasized that Babalola's tenure has elevated the institution's standards, transforming it into one of the country's top universities.

Reflecting on Babalola’s seven years of service, the former President commended her as a "woman of virtue" whose commitment and integrity have left a lasting legacy at Chrisland University. He highlighted the importance of her contributions not only to the institution but to Nigerian education as a whole, noting that her leadership has set a benchmark for future academic leaders.

About 100 beer retailers drawn from different locations in Ogun State have converged on Abeokuta the state capital to fashion out ways of improving patronage and profit.

The Programme tagged Grit (Growing Retailers Innovatively Together) is aimed towards empowering retailers selling their products, such as trophy larger beer, trophy stout,beta malt among others with necessary information and strategies to improve their sales and maximise profits.

Facilitators at the events highlighted the need for daily stock keeping, provision of conducive environment for Customers, ensuring that their drinks are always chilled, selling other edible such as pepper soups,grilled fish, food, provision of music and possibly sporting facilities as that will enhance more patronages.


The GRIT event held in Abeokuta , the Ogun state capital had retailers from ijebu ode, Sagamu, mowe, ibafo, Abeokuta etc in attendance and adorned in International breweries customised T-shirts.

Certificates were presented to the over 100 participants while the retailers commended international breweries Plc for coming up with the laudable initiative.

The programme has been held in Osun, Rivers & Anambra states while the next phase is in Lagos.

Ogun State Government has encouraged small business owners to make transparency their watchword in their bid to accessing grants and loans to grow their economic activities.

It also urged the small scale business operators to maximize the various financial opportunities which the State government in collaboration with Federal Government and other development partners have provided for the benefits of Medium, Small and Micro Enterprises (MSMEs) in the State.

The Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Adebola Sofela made the call at the hybrid quarterly MSMEs stakeholders engagement meeting, tagged, "Empowering MSMEs for innovation, sustainability and inclusive growth in a resilient Ogun State," held in Abeokuta.

Mr Sofela who was joined by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information Communication Technology, Mr. Dayo Abiodun and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Sunday Oyesanya said that the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led government would not relent on issues militating against business growth, noting that the present administration would continue to provide an enabling environment for businesses to thrive in order to maintain its status as the industrial capital of Nigeria.

Noting that the government was not only interested in the growth of big industries, the Commissioner maintained that the well-being of small businesses remained paramout to the Abiodun led administration.

Adding that the State government had made numerous financial opportunities available for business growth at the State level and in collaboration with the Federal Government, he pointed out that "Okowo Dapo," Nano Grants, OG-Cares Grants, Federal Government grant for manufacturers, Bank of Industry (BOI) loans which are at single interest rate, among others,were available for businesses.

The Commissioner was displeased with the incidence of failure to repay loans granted by the government or development partners in the past, the action, which he said denied others access to the funding sources

According to him, as a forward looking government, our efforts on the availability of industrial clusters across the three senatorial districts of Ogun State would help sustain our status as the industrial capital of Nigeria.

"We will constantly engage the Federal Government in the areas of mutual collaborations. We have also been engaging at the local, State and Federal levels respectively on tax harmonization to address the incidence of multiple taxation.

"Government intervention should not be taken as a national cake. When you default, you break the chain and you prevent others from accessing the same opportunities," he said.

Earlier, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Industry, Trade and Investment, Mrs. Oluyemisi Somorin- Dawodu who joined virtually, had appreciated stakeholders for their support for government's policies, just as she assured the present administration will work to ensure that businesses within the State continue to thrive and innovate.

The meeting had an array of stakeholders in attendance including the representatives of the Ogun State Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (OGUNCCIMA), Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission ( FCCPC), Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), GFA Technology, German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).

Others included Bank of Industry, Raw Materials Research and Development Center (RMRDC), Technology Incubation Center (TIC), trade associations and other line Ministries.

Ogun State government has promised to work with relevant legislative bodies and regulatory authorities to consider laws that will protect farmers' rights while promoting accountability and standardization across the sector.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr Bolu Owootomo stated this at a policy engagement and stakeholders' dialogue on the adoption of standard weights and measures for farmers in Ogun state.

Mr Owootomo who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mrs Kehinde Jokotoye said the contributions of farmers to the economic growth and development in the country remained invaluable hence the need to support protect them with relevant policies.

The Agriculture Commissioner remarked that 97 point 1 percent of farmers were willing and ready to adopt the practices of standard weights and measure if there were government guidance and policy to support them.

He reiterated government's commitment to facilitating a structured policy dialogue involving all stakeholders in the agricultural value chain-farmers, processors, marketers, regulators, and development partners.

The National programme coordinator, Value Chain Development Programme, Dr Fatima Aliyu, represented by an officer in the ministry, Mr Agama Sunday said the adoption of standard weights and measure would to eradicate all forms of cheating and enhance farmers sustainability.

Earlier, the Acting State Programme Coordinator of Value Chain Development Programme (VCDP), Mrs Temitope Ajisafe had explained that the stakeholders' engagement forum was necessary to ensure that the objective of standard weights and measures was achieved.

Representatives of farmers who commended the state government for its efforts towards promoting food security in the state said there was the need for government to ensure the availability of standard scales and weights to enhance equity across various markets in the State.

They also advocated the legislation and the enforcement of the policy for improved product farm produce.

Ogun State Government has described the remarkable display of talent and performance of Master Oluwatimileyin Doko at the African Scrabble Championship in Kigali, Rwanda, as exemplary.

In a statement by the Commissioner for Sports Development, the Commissioner, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka, congratulated Master Oluwatimilehin Doko, for his outstanding achievement as the newly crowned African Scrabble Champion in Kigali, Rwanda.

Hon Isiaka submitted that the continuous efforts of Prince Dapo Abiodun, whose commitment to the development of sports in Ogun State had paved the way for our athletes to excel on national and international stages.

He stated that Doko's triumph would inspire many across the State and demonstrate the potential that resides within the youthful.population.

Doko, who is also the number one player of the Ogun State Scrabble Association, in a remarkable display of talent, defeated fellow Ogun State player and Team Nigeria colleague, Abdulmumin Jimoh, in the penultimate game, showcasing the depth of talent that the State continues to produce.

The new African Champion, Doko's exceptional skills and strategic prowess on the board have earned hom the prestigious Continental Champion (CC) badge, a medal presented to champions, after competing against the best on the African continent.

Other notable Ogun State players representing Nigeria alongside Timilehin in Kigali, include Adebola Samuel, a dedicated doctor at the Federal Medical Center Abeokuta, Cyril Umebiye, Olumide Oyejide and the African Games Gold medallist, Adebisi Adekansi.

The Commissioner also expressed gratitude to the Chairman of the Ogun State Scrabble Association, dedicated coaches, and the Ogun State Sports Council for their unwavering support and commitment to nurturing grassroot athletes

The Federal Ministry of Health is set to partner Ogun State Alternate Medicine Board (OGAMB), as part of efforts to identify major challenges affecting the integration of Traditional, Complementary and Alternative Medicine (TCAM) in Nigeria’s health system and how best to build qualitative repository practice across the country.

This was disclosed during the assessment tour to OGAMB, Abeokuta by the Director, TCAM, Federal Ministry of Health, Pharm. Radiat Taitus, saying the partnership would enable government carry out all the necessary investigation and orientation for practitioners in the state, while noting that the benefits of the study would further transform the practice for a better working relationship between the TCAM and scientific or orthodox practitioners.

Pharm. Taitus, who doubles as the Principal Investigator for TCAM studies and development project, said the studies was long overdue, explaining that the visit was to assess the facilities on ground to indicate the Board’s level of preparedness which would form part of the Federal Ministry of Health documentation of TCAM recommendation and support for the practitioners, commending the state government for promoting the alternate medicine practice.

"The format of the studies had been designed and very simple to accommodate everyone. It was in a questionnaires format, containing different components from sections A-E. Participants are to correctly tick in the box and provide written responses to questions in each section where necessary. All information collected will be kept strictly confidential. Participants’ identities will be anonymous and data will be stored securely in compliance with data protection regulations.

“Only authorised researchers will have access to the data and it will be used solely for the purpose of this study. Participation in this study is going to be very simple to the level that a participant has the right to refuse or withdraw at any time without any consequences", she said.

In her remarks, Executive Secretary/Registrar, OGAMB, Dr. Kafayat Lawal, appreciated the team for the visit, adding that the state was ready to partner with the national agency on the assessment study and any other areas, towards the development of repository for TCAM.

She highlighted some major challenges in the sector including, lack of investors from both local and international levels, international partners, sponsors and donor agencies, as well as inadequate modern equipment among others facilities to make the evaluation easy for accuracy.

Operatives of Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 31-year-old Alfa, identified as Jubril Dalamun, for allegedly defiling a 12-year-old girl in Ijebu North Local Government Area of the State.

The suspect was arrested after the mother of the victim, Kehinde Kafayat had reported the alleged sexual assault of the minor at Ago Iwoye Police Station.

The Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Police, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrest of the suspect in a statement in Abeokuta.

According to Odutola, the victim’s mother reported that on Saturday, October 19, 2024, around 1:00 p.m., a 31-year-old man, Alfa Jubril Dalamun, residing at No. 8 Imososi Street in Ago Iwoye, had forcibly assaulted and defiled her daughter.”

The PRO noted that the suspect had been arrested, adding that the victim had been taken to a private Hospital in Ago Iwoye for medical examination and treatment.

Odutola noted that the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and likely prosecution.

Ogun State government says it will soon commence rehabilitation work in schools across the 20 Local government areas of the state to create conducive and attractive learning environment for learners

Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Abayomi Arigbabu stated this, during an inspection visit to Akin Ogunpola Model College, Akinale, Papalanto High School and Methodist Comprehensive High School, all in Ewekoro Local Government Area.

Professor Arigbabu explained that the inspection was to access schools that were in need of state intervention for reconstruction, rehabilitation, supply of furniture, perimeter fencing, security among others adding that ministry had began supply of furniture and other amenities to schools in the state.

The Commissioner, who noted that the developmental process was being monitored to ensure continuity and quality work delivery, reiterated the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration's determination to providing qualitative and accessible education, charging learners to be well-behaved, law abiding and adhere strictly to instructions of the school authorities during the rehabilitation process.

Speaking on behalf of other learners, the Head Prefect of Akin-Ogunpola Model College, Emmanuel Ogugua, appreciated government for its laudable policies and programmes in transforming education sector of the state.

The commitment of present administration at strengthening cooperative movement through effective policy frameworks, capacity building and financial incentives is an avenue to boost the state micro economy.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun made this known at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, while declaring open the 2024 International Day of Cooperatives Conference, organised by the State onCooperative Federation Limited (OGSCOFED), in collaboration with the Ogun State Ministry of Community Development and Cooperatives with the theme, “Cooperative Build a Better Future for All”.

Governor Abiodun who was represented by his Deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, said the contributions of cooperative movement to the socio-economic development cannot be over emphasized, lauding cooperative societies for exemplifying people-centred enterprises characterised by a unique and democratic structure that empowers individuals to achieve their economic aspirations.

The governor stated that his administration had cleared all outstanding cooperative deductions owed to various organisations, adding that deductions were now being paid simultaneously alongside the salaries.He noted that essential financing institutions were needed for cooperative societies in the state, to enable them access funding at low interest rates.

Also, Commissioner for Community Development and Cooperatives, Hon. Ademola Balogun said the state had over 14,000 registered cooperative societies, which had bridged the gap of accessing wealth creation and distribution among various members and stakeholders, towards improved well-being of the people in the state.

Earlier, the President, OGSCOFED, Alhaji Wasiu Olaleye, had said that
the conference was organised, to enable stakeholders deliberate on the best practices in the industry with a view to driving sustainable change in cooperatives, lauding Governor Abiodun for his supports to enhance cooperative landscape.

In his goodwill message, the President of National Association of Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), Mr. Dele Oye, represented by the Director General, Mr. Sola Obadimu, who highlighted the roles of cooperatives societies in nation building, said the association was interested in driving the initiative of cooperative societies.

Highlights of the opening ceremony included, decoration of Governor Abiodun as the Grand Patron of Ogun State Cooperatives Movement, among others.

The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission, OGSIEC, has reaffirmed its determination to conduct free, transparent and acceptable local government elections.

The Chairman of the Commission, Mr Babatunde Osibodu stated this in Abeokuta while featuring as guest on Media parliament with stakeholders on the upcoming Ogun State local government elections put together by the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ,

Mr Osibodu who noted that all arrangements had been made towards the successful conduct of the November 16 Local government elections, said every stakeholders must play active roles to achieve the desired objectives in the forthcoming council polls.

The OGSIEC chairman appealed to Journalists to rise to their responsibility of educating the voters on the need to participate actively in the polls to ensure that their preferred candidates emerge winners at the elections.

He also said stressed the need for men of the pen profession to continue to act as checks on the politicians on the implementation of their campaign promises to the electorate.

Mr Osibodu who admitted that there was the need for electoral reforms in the country said allowing INEC to conduct local government elections was not necessary.

Earlier, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju had explained that the forum became necessary to chart a way forward to the successful conduct of the local government elections.

Sports journalists in Ogun State under the auspices of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) are intensifying preparations for the second edition of Tokunbo Talabi Table Tennis competition.

The competition, organized for sports journalists in the state, which is slated between November 20 and 23, 2024, will take place at the Abeokuta Sports Club, Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta.

A statement by the Secretary of the Association, Comrade Olusegun Folarin, indicated that the annual competition is proudly sponsored by the Secretary to Ogun State government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi.

The SWAN Secretary noted that, the executives are already in talk with the sponsor to organize a memorable competition.

It will be recalled that Mr. Rafiu Alarape from Silverbid Television won the maiden edition of the competition, beating Afolabi Sobande of Paramount FM in the final.

Nigerian youths have been urged to embrace the dynamics of the non-oil sector of the economy, describing it as a path to becoming successful exporters and entrepreneurs.

This was disclosed by Ogun State Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Adebola Sofela, in Abeokuta, while declaring open a two-day mentorship programme, organised by the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment.

Mr. Sofela noted that the future belong to only those who prepare for today, just as he stressed that youths were the drivers of innovations, custodians of technology and champions of entrepreneurship.

Aikulola, said the workshop was designed to equip participants with skills and knowledge necessary for taking full advantage of the opportunities in the non-oil export sector.

He admonished them to use the platform to gain understanding of global trade dynamics and export process, identify key markets for non-oil export, as well as develop exportable products and services that meet the international standard, while leveraging digital platforms.

Mr. Sofela reiterated that Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration was committed at creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive, pointing out that the state government had put in place, policies and initiatives that would promote the ease of doing business, enhance access to finance and support the development of export infrastructure.

Earlier, the State Coordinator of NEPC, Mrs. Franscisca Odega, lauded the continued support and efforts of the present administration towards promoting trade, particularly the non-oil export, ensuring participants that the gains of the mentorship programme would be helpful and memorable.

In separate interviews, two participants, Mr. Olatunde Olugoke and Miss Kabirat Adebesin, commended the organisers for the initiative, which would serve as an eye-opener to opportunities that abound in the non-oil sector, acknowledging that knowledge gained at the training would equip them in surmounting the economic hardship in the country

Participants were drawn from the Junior Chambers International (JCI), Nigeria Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), Nigeria Youth Entrepreneurs (NYE) and African Leaders Initiative, among others.

Relevant stakeholders in the production of cash crops in Ogun State have been urged to tap from the emerging strategies of improving the quantity and quality of produce, towards enhancing food security in the state.

Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Bolu Owotomo made this known at the 2024 Annual Pre-season and Stakeholders' Forum with the theme, "The Future of Cash Crops in Ogun State: Land Availability, Youth Engagement, Climate Change Mitigation", at Valley View Auditorium, Isale-Igbein, Abeokuta.

Hon Owotomo said cash crop production was a vital sector in the state's economy as it provides livelihood for numerous farmers and contribute significantly to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), noting that the Ministry had launched several initiatives to tackle the challenges faced by cash crop industries such as climate change, high cost of production, land availability among others.

He disclosed that both Federal and State governments, as well as the private sector had intensified efforts to develop the agricultural sector along its value chain, to create employment opportunities, recalling the free distribution of 24,000 bags of fertilizers to 12,000 farmers, and allocation of 8,550 hectares of land to private investors. to boost food production.

"Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration is doing so much to develop the sector through sundry farming, food processing and market initiatives in the past few years, with the aim of boosting production of cocoa and other cash crops as well as improving farmers' income and promote sustainable practices", the Commissioner said.

In a contributions, The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Kehinde Jokotoye, who described agriculture as the sustenance of life, and the bedrock of economy development, emphasised the need for stakeholders' forum to cross-fertilise ideas and share best practices in sustaining cash crop production.

In a presentation, the Guest Speaker, Professor of Entomology, Federal University of Agriculture (FUNAB), Prof. Adedoyin Osipitan pointed out that improper management of farmland and deforestation had been hindering consistent cash crop production.

Professor Osipitan called on government to discourage the unwholesome acts, while advising operating industries to embrace solar and other source of renewable energy to generate power for production, so as to create eco-friendly environment for agricultural activities to thrive in the state.

In their separate messages, state Chairmen, All Farmers Association of Nigeria, Alhaja Ganiyat Adeoye-Kusimo and Cocoa Farmers Association of Nigeria, Chief Sesan Mac-Daniel, appreciated the present administration for the laudable initiatives and support given to farmers.

Highlights of the event included, presentation of awards to Agro-Processing and Agro-Allied companies as well as Produce officers, while commendation letters were given to staff of the Produce Department of the Ministry.

The Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP, Ogun state chapter has commended the State Governor, Dapo Abiodun for the approval of N77,000 minimum wage to Ogun state workers, the highest so far announced in the country.

In a statement made available to newsmen, signed by its Chairman, Comrade Waheed Oloyede and Secretary, Bola Lawal, the Union noted that the gesture is a true testimony of the sincerity of purpose, and consideration towards the workforce of the state.

The Union added that the gesture will propel the workers to be more productive to further enhance the economic and social status of the state.

The Union however decry the paltry sum being received by most pensioners at the moment, saying that it is grossly inadequate to purchase drugs for various health challenges, talk less of meeting with the demands of the present day economic challenges in the wake of the fuel subsidy removal.

The statement called on the state governor, to approve its’ request of the long awaited consequential increase in pensions in line with the 2019 federal government circular on consequential adjustment of pensions.

The Ogun State Government has commenced reconstruction and renovation works on the MKO Abiola International Stadium and the Alake Sports Centre, Ijeja, Abeokuta, ahead of the National Sports Festival (NSF), tagged "2024 Gateway Games."

Speaking after inspecting the two facilities, the Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka assured that the renovation works would be completed within the stipulated time and would be tested before the games.

The scraping of the pitch at the main bowl of the stadium, the removal of the tartan tracks, as well as the roofs at the indoor hall of the Alake Sports Centre, Ijeja, are ongoing simultaneously as the commissioner led journalists to the sites.

He revealed that the VIP section of the stadium would be expanded, while an Olympic-sized swimming pool, tennis courts, and handball courts would also be constructed inside the stadium.

The commissioner noted that the current administration is intensifying its efforts to develop sports and youth development programs in the state, as well as to discover and nurture young athletes.

He highlighted the importance of harnessing the potential of the youth and channeling their energy into productive ventures for their personal success and the socio-economic gains of the state, reiterating the government’s commitment to organizing a world-class National Sports Festival.

Hon. Isiaka submitted that the festival will bring together the best athletes from the state, inspiring the next generation of athletes, promoting the rich cultural heritage, and promising to reward outstanding performances.

He stated that the massive renovation will not only help develop the skills and dedication of local athletes before, during, and after the games but will also underscore the commitment and readiness of the state government to host the National Sports Festival, calling on corporate organizations and other well-meaning individuals to join hands with the government to make the NSF a huge success.

He noted that the Sports Festival is a moment for the state to shine and show the world the abundance of talent, potential, and hospitality available in the state.

Hon. Isiaka reaffirmed the readiness of the state government to host a befitting festival, adding that the facilities would be top-notch and would attract national and international events.

The National Sports Festival will be held between January 12 and January 26, 2025.

Ogun State Police Command says it has arrested a 33 year old suspect Olayemi Olawale Shedrack for allegedly involved in armed robbery and sexual assault on the female students of Tai University of Education, Ijagun.

The suspect was arrested by the Policemen attached to Igbesa Division after a trip off that Olayemi Olawale Shedrack was spotted in Ijagun attempting to blend in with the crowd.

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Omolola Odutola confirmed the arrest of the suspect in a statement in Abeokuta.

According to Odutola, Olayemi Olawale Shedrack has been on police trail for his involvement in armed robbery and sexual assault.

"He was identified as the main suspect in a reported incident of armed robbery and rape that took place on July 21, 2024. During this crime, he and his accomplices unlawfully entered the female Royal villa accommodation area at Tai University of Education in Ijagun'

" They stole valuable educational items such as laptops, iPhones, sports watches, and cash from female students, and they also committed sexual assault before fleeing the scene."

The Command's spokesperson who noted that a preliminary investigation had been launched, and Shedrack was taken to the Igbeba police station for interrogation assured the public that the suspect will soon be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for thorough investigation and prosecution.

The prosecuting counsel for the Police Special Fraud Unit of the Lagos Police Command, Barr. Enang has told the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos State, that the command failed to conduct due diligence in its investigation against four journalists arrested in connection to the alleged cyber stalking, attempted extortion of GTBank.

Recall that the Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU), Lagos arrested four online journalists and arraigned them on a two-count charge before Justice Ayokunle Faji of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos.

The police acting on a petition by Country Hill Attorney and Solicitors, representing Guaranty Trust Bank, Plc.

At the hearing of bail application on Friday, the prosecuting counsel, Barr. Enang told the court that the police did not conclude on its investigation before arraigning the suspects in court.

Earlier, the Defendants counsel, Afolabi Kunle, argued that the police arrested the suspects without formal invitation.

Barrister Afolabi told the court that the suspects should not be denied bail in respect of section 158 and 165 of Administration of Criminal Justice Act.

Citing Section 24 of the Cyber Crime Prevention Act, 2024 as amended, Barrister Afolabi maintained that there was no punishment for the allegations leveled against the suspects in the amended Act.

He, therefore, urged the court to grant the suspects bail pending the commencement of the trial.

He said, "My Lord, the prosecutor has not concluded investigation before rushing to court, then this court should not deny my clients bail. We emphasize that in respect of section 158, 165 of Administration of Criminal Justice Act which is sacrosanct and says they are entitled to bail.

"The charge is based on amendment because it has no penalty as stated in section 24 of the 2024 amended cyber Crime Prosecution Prevention Act.

"The law clearly states in section 24 (1a and b), as substituted by this law, the order amendment provides what the punishment are but this one clearly substitute that, but if the court will go back to the old law, I leave that to you. I urged your lordship to exercise discretion to grant the bail application."

In his counter argument, the prosecuting counsel opposed the bail application, citing Section 27 of the 2015 Cyber Crime Prevention Act.

He argued that, the amended 2024 Cyber Crime Act does not abrogate the 2015 law, saying the suspects committed an offence under section 27 of 2015 Cyber Crime Act.

In his ruling, Justice Ayokunle Faji adjourned the hearing to October 14, 2024.

He said this would allow him to review the amended 2024 Cyber Crime Act if the 2015 Act still subsist.

Ogun state Wrestling Association wants state government to provide the wrestlers with the right equipment especially mats to aid their performances at major competitions ahead of the National Sports Festival.

The Chairman of the association, Dr Abimbola Babalola made the appeal in Abeokuta when he led the gold medalist at the last National Youth games in Asaba, Adekanbi Jesutofunmi to the office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Sports Development, Comrade Lanre Ogunyinka.

Dr Babalola who noted that Ogun state occupied the second spot in the Nigeria Wrestling Federation ranking said the wrestlers were poised to dethrone Delta State if necessary resources were provided for them.

He also solicited the support of the state government towards the participation of the wrestlers in the forthcoming 3rd Governor Douye Diri National Wrestling Championship in Bayelsa State.

Responding, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Sports Development, Comrade Lanre Ogunyinka restated the commitment of the present administration in the state to the change the face of sports in the state especially the upgrade of sporting facilities in the state.

Comrade Ogunyinka who noted that the era of poaching athletes from other states was over encouraged the association to continue to partner government to ensure that objective of talent discovery was achieved.

The President, Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Tonobok Okowa, has commended organizers of the Lotus Bank/Abeokuta 10km Race for bringing up such initiative.

According to Okowa, the race would further prepare Nigerian long distance athletes for international events.

The AFN President, who spoke with journalists in Abeokuta, noted that the Abeokuta 10km race has greatly improved in terms of organization and participation.

He said, "the race keeps improving every year, and normally it ends at the stadium, but this time around look at where it ended up at the Alake’s palace ground.

"The ambiance is very good for the road race. I am happy with what I've seen, then to crown it up, I saw my athletes winning the race, so that means they are coming up running the long distance races.

"Our long distance athletes are doing well and coming up. They are having their PB, and when an athlete is having PB, it shows they are doing something extraordinary. At the junior level in Africa, they are beginning to do better.

"We have an athlete that came 5th in the Africa Junior event in Zambia, that means they are doing better, they have never gotten to that position before."

As part of his efforts to assist the less privileged in the society especially in Abeokuta North Local government area of Ogun state, the founder of Sanni Sulaimon Charity Organization, Hon. Sanni Sulaimon has offered another 20 people a 3 month free training course in collaboration with Soilless Farm Lab.

Hon Sulaimon who announced this during an interview with Journalists in Abeokuta said the step was in fulfillment of the promise he made to support the people in the state.

Describing the unemployment rate in the country as terrifying, Hon. Sanni Sulaimon through Sanni Sulaimon Charity Organization decided to train and empower the young one in his constituency to become self reliant.

Hon. Sanni Sulaimon called for active participation of youth in mechanized farming to reduce current economic hardship and increase food production.

The Chief Operating Officer, Fatgbems group, Mr. Ayodele Odulaja has affirmed the company's readiness to support initiatives geared towards developing the body and the mind.

Following Court injunction obtained by Ogun State government through, linking Progressive Students Movement, PSM to the planned #FearlessInOctober protest, the leadership of the body has condemned the act.

A statement by Nigeria's President of PSM, Ambassador Bestman Okereafor, described the development as disturbing and highly insensitive as it’s most capable of triggering provocation that may lead to protest.


Okereafor said it was disheartening that the government would ascribed the planning of the protest to PSM, other organisations and persons, considering the level of loyalty of the body to the state government.

He stressed that the State government failed to reach out to the movement to
know our stand on the protest, despite have existing communication channels .



The National President noted that PSM was the first body to dissociate self from the protest, saying the body has never at any point in time disclosed it's participation in the protest.


The statement reads "The attention of the leadership of the foremost PAN African Socialist Movement the Progressive Students Movement PSM , has been drawn to a purported court injunction order with regards to the oct 1 2024 protest being planned by some persons .

Ogun State Government has rewarded outstanding grassroots athletes, who won medals at the 8th National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State with instant cash prizes.

Speaking after the medal presentation to the winners, Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka, saying the instant cash prizes was not just to encourage them to do more, but to also aim for international competitions and tournaments.

Hon. Isiaka assured the athletes of government’s readiness to nurture them to enviable heights, attributing the successes recorded during the games to the current administration's resolve to take sports back to the grassroots.

While appreciating the young athletes for their service to the state, the Commissioner expressed optimism that exposure gained at the games would go a long way in re-moulding the budding talents to become better, in order to represent the state and the country at other national and international competitions.

“I am highly impressed with the results and performances of these young athletes, and as you are all aware, it is no longer news that in Ogun State, we reward our athletes when they perform excellently, like they have done here, as the State Government doles out instant reward for motivation and encouragement. We are certain of a glorious future in sports with these budding talents we have”, he said.

On her part, Acting Director of Sports, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Alade, attributed the giant strides Team Ogun contingent made at the National Youth Games in Delta to the relentless effort of the state government at repositioning sports at all levels.

She revealed that Team Ogun’s Atinuke Onabiyi became the first ever youth athlete to record the highest score by any youth in Nigeria in Female Rifle Individual Shooting, scoring 502.1 point in a single shot, thereby surpassing the record set by Akwa Ibom’s Etuk Effiong (486) at the 2022 National Youth Games.

While appreciating to the Commissioner for his relentless effort at making the young athletes fulfil their life-long dream of representing their state and competing at major tournaments, the Acting Director of Sports acknowledged that his presence had been a morale booster for the athletes.

The new National Record Holder, an SS3 student of Greenlands Academy, Onikolobo, Abeokuta, who won two Gold medals, Atinuke Onabiyi, expressed excitement at representing the state, appreciated Governor Dapo Abiodun for the cash awards, saying it has always been her lifelong dream to represent Nigeria at the Olympic Games.

Miss Onabiyi, who won gold in Female 10m Air Rifle for Team Ogun in Shooting, qualified for the next Youth Olympics Games in Dakar, Senegal.

As part of effort to ensure Ogun State Alternate Medicine Board (OGAMB) achieve its set objectives, traditional herbalists have been called to embark on herbal documentation and approach the Board with their confirmed herbal solution for any disease that scientific drugs can no longer cure.

Executive Secretary/Registrar Ogun State Alternate Medicine Board (OGAMB) Dr. Kafayat Lawal, made the call in Abeokuta, during the monthly meeting of the Leadership Alternate Medicine Practitioners in the state, advocating for partnership on herbal products.

Dr. Lawal said one of the reasons the Board was established include proper documentation of genuine herbal medicines, for future references, adding that improper documentation by alternate medicine practitioners in the olden days had impeded the growth of the practice.

She said Board was ready to support practitioners who have any herbal solution or medicine that had been confirmed to be effective, to approach the Board for sponsorship of mass production, assuring that government would facilitate laboratory tests, clinical trials, approval of National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), packaging, as well as branding, with propriety rights.

Responding, Chairman, Traditional Healers Association, Chief Toyin Ogatimirin, who appreciated government for its numerous attempts at standardising the practice in the state, assured of the association’s readiness to cooperate with the Board at achieving all the set goals.

Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat, stated this while delivering his keynote address at a two-day strategic retreat at Ijebu-Ode, with the theme, ‘’Reinvigorating The Workforce for Increased Productivity", for professionals and sub-cadre officers in the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

Hon. Hamzat said it was imperative to reinvigorate the workforce for increased productivity and attainment of sustainable success in the state Public Service for efficient and effective service delivery of the entire workforce.

He stated that the retreat would encapsulate important areas that would add value to staffers’ work and well-being, enjoining participants to take advantage of the training to improve their skills, to further enhance increased efficiency, achieve the vision and mission of the agency, thereby contributing meaningfully to individual prosperity and continued development of the state.

Declaring the workshop open, Ogun State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, said the training was timely, as it allows officers to re-align with the goals of government, maintaining that productivity in the Public Sector was not just a function of hard-work or effort, but rather, an end-result of motivated, well-equipped and purpose-driven workforce.

He added that the training would further boost productivity across various agencies for effective service delivery, emphasising that capacity building of the workforce should be sustained, to engender a productive workforce.

Contributing, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Razak Daddah, noted that the training was imperative to create a healthy and wealthy nation, imploring participants to duly unleash the knowledge garnered into practical terms at their various fields of endeavours.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Rotimiolu Akinlesi, while exposing the vision of the Ministry, informed that government had priortised wealth creation, employment generation, poverty reduction and value re-orientation at the local level, revealing that the workshop was targeted at identifying challenges, brainstorming for possible solutions, aimed at achieving the set objectives of the Ministry, in tandem with the ISEYA mantra of the present administration.

In his lecture, the Deputy Director, Civil Litigations and Advisory, Ministry of Justice, Mr. Richard Manuwa, said that Civil Servants must endeavour to acquaint themselves with the provision of Public Service rules and other books, in order to be effective and avoid mistakes that could truncate their career in the Civil Service, enjoining them to also familiarise with basic provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, for effective service delivery and for the betterment of the state.

According to him, “Civil Servants must be conversant and be abreast of relevant constitution and have a good understanding of principles, as well as the provisions, as it relates to individual career, as well as Civil Service”.

The Ogun State chapter of Nigeria Union of Pensioners has appealed to the state government to approve the consequential Increase in Pensions of the longstanding retirees in line with the 2019 Federal Government Circular on Consequential Adjustment of Pensions.

In a statement jointly signed the Chairman, Comrade Waheed Oloyede and Secretary of the Union, Dr Bola Lawal described the sum being received by Pensioners in the state as grossly inappropriate to meet their needs especially in buying required drugs for their various health challenges.

The Union also appealed to the state government to consider the inclusion of Pensioners at the ongoing negotiation on the New National wage Increase to enable members to be at the same pedestal with the recent retirees in consonance with the Federal Government directive.

The Pensioners however commended governor Dapo Abiodun for the approval and release of 5 point 3 billion naira gratuity payments to members of the Union in the State to reduce the backlog of accrued gratuities

They described the governor's gesture as remarkable and a true testimony of his sincerity of purpose and of deep sense of consideration towards the Elderly who have over years denied of their entitlements.

The Pensioners also used the occasion to renew their dedication, commitment and unwavering support to the presentation administration in the state.

The present administration in Ogun State has taken bold steps at ensuring that the alternate medicine practice is generally accepted and recognised by both national and international health system through its various indigenous research by practitioners to combat any disease.

The Chairman Ogun State Alternate Medicine Board, (OGAMB), Balogun Nurudeen Olaleye, disclose this at the second graduation ceremony of the Emmanuel College of Traditional Medicine and Health Technology (ECOTHTECH), at the Daniel Akintomide Arcade Hall, Ita-Alapo Ijebu-Ode.

Balogun Olaleye, represented by the agency’s Information Officer, Mr. Dolapo Jinad, said government would continue to provide enabling environment to encourage the practice of alternate medicine in the state, adding that the success of the profession was achievable through cooperation with government, in terms of proper registrations and abiding with operational laws guiding the practice.

In his lecture titled, "Traditional Medicine Has Now Become a Goldmine, World Is Awaiting Nigeria", the guest speaker of the event, Head of Department of Forest Resources Management, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, (FUNAB), Prof. Samuel Oluwalana, noted that natural medicine, which is now globally accepted, is a money-making sector for government, especially in the western countries, saying the world depends on Nigeria for the supply of major recipes used for discovering products, “which are packaged and brought back to us as finished products that we buy with huge amount of money, contributing to the downturn of our economy”, calling on government to give more support to the Board.

Earlier, the school Provost, Dr. Adebayo Owolabi, who appreciated the Board’s continuous assistance to the College, congratulated the graduands for their endurance, leading to successful certification, reminding them to always adhere to the rules guiding the practice.

Responding on behalf of other graduating students, Mrs. Habibat Fasasi, appreciated the school management and the state government for establishing Alternate Medicine Board, as a platform that brought light into the sub-sector through its advocacy and enlightenment orientation workshop for practitioners, promising to be good ambassadors of the school.
