As Christians around the world celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, the Chairman, Ogun State Football Association (OGSFA), Alhaji Ganiyu Majekodunmi, has sent a message of felicitation to the Christian community in Ogun State and beyond.

In a statement, Alhaji Majekodunmi expressed his warmest wishes to Christians on this special occasion. "I join millions of people around the world to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace," he said. "This festive season is a time for joy, love, and giving, and I urge everyone to embrace the values of compassion, kindness, and generosity that Jesus embodied."

Alhaji Majekodunmi also used the opportunity to call for unity and peaceful coexistence among people of different faiths and backgrounds. "As we celebrate Christmas, let us remember that we are all children of God, and that love, peace, and harmony should guide our interactions with one another," he said.

The OGSFA Chairman who is also an Executive Board Member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), wished Christians a joyous and peaceful Christmas celebration, and prayed for a New Year filled with blessings, prosperity, and happiness for all.

The Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele has said that the just concluded maiden edition of the three-day Christmas Fiesta is a proof of retailers' confidence in the Prince Dapo Abiodun's led government in Ogun State as it presented the opportunity to drive traffic to their businesses.

Engr. Salako-Oyedele made this known during her tour of various exhibition booths at the Christmas Fiesta organised by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment at the Open Lawn, Opposite House of Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The Deputy Governor who was received to the venue by the Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Adebola Sofela, and other top management team members of the Ministry, commended the initiative which enabled retailers to display their wares free of charge.

She expressed optimism that people who had patronized the various businesses within the three days of the fiesta would become returned and loyal customers even after the Christmas festivity.

According to her, I know that a relationship would have been built between retailers and customers who have come to buy things since the fiesta kicked-off two days ago.

“I have personally seen some products that excited me. I will always look in the direction of these items in future. I have bought some things which I intend to try to make sure we support our local products, businesses ,retailers and ensure we contribute to the Gross Domestic Product ( GDP) in the state.

While appreciating the organisers, the Deputy Governor assured that the next edition of the fiesta would be bigger and better, just as she used the opportunity to wish everyone in the State a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year in advance.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Trade, Mrs. Oluyemisi Somorin-Dawodu, Special Adviser to the Governor on Mining and Solid Minerals, Prof. Kayode Festus Oyedele, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Olu. Ola. Aikulola, Director of Commerce, Mr. Deji Sowunmi and other directors in the Ministry were present to welcome the Deputy Governor to the closing day of the Christmas Fiesta.

The Annual Praise Day of the Church located No3, Adeboye street Olorunsogo Abeokuta is to appreciate God for His enduring love, mercy and protection over the outgoing year.

A statement by the Host, Pastor and Mrs Francis Kehinde, the event with the theme ' I WILL SING" will be held on Sunday, 29th December, 2024 at the Church auditorium beginning from 9am.

It says that Sis Bola Olowookere, Sis Bunmi Royal, Brother Joseph Jacob and Sis Fisayo Oloyede will minister in songs.

The Ogun State Government has kick-started the three days Christmas Fiesta targeted at promoting Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (MSMEs) and sales of goods at subsidized rates.

The event which commenced on Wednesday, December 18 and ending on Friday, December 20, 2024, was the maiden edition for the Yuletide season and is holding at the Open Lawn Opposite the House of Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. It is organised by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment

Speaking during his visit to the exhibition booths, the Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, in company of members of the Body of Permanent Secretaries, described the Prince Dapo Abiodun led administration as a highly focused and responsible government, saying that its various programmes as encapsulated in the ISEYA mantra were actually touching lives.

Mr Onasanya, who called on civil servants and members of the public to patronize the stands, noted that apart from the aim of promoting small scale businesses, items could be purchased at discounted rates.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Adebola Sofela, said Governor Abiodun was not only interested in big multinationals, but that MSMEs should also be empowered to enable them to have access to market and showcase their products.

Mr Sofela who commended the efforts of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Trade, Mrs. Oluyemis Somorin-Dawodu for her efforts, said that the Christmas Fiesta which was first of its kind afforded small scale business owners to have booths to display their wares for free in line with the government desire to enhance their economic activities.

According to him, the intention of Ogun State Government in the coming year would further be in the area of capacity building, business and financial advisory and financial empowerment for MSME’s

“The focus of this Christmas Fiesta is the promotion of MSMEs. The Governor is not only interested in big multinationals and companies but he believes the small scale businesses should be empowered to enable them to have access to market, finance and opportunity to showcase their products and services “he said.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Olu. Ola. Aikulola, appreciated the Prince Abiodun led government for its various forward-looking initiatives which had turned around the economic fortunes of the State just as he appreciated the Head of Service for his presence at the exhibition stands.

The Head of Service was welcomed by top management staff of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment and Ministry of Information and Strategy, including the Special Adviser to the Governor on Trade, Mrs. Somorin-Dawodu and Special Adviser to the Governor on Mineral Resources, Prof. Kayode Oyedele.

The Chairman Ogun State Football Association, and Executive Board Member, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ganiyu Majekodunmi, has received Sports Ambassador Award by the prestigious Abeokuta Sports Club.

The President of the club, Prince Seni Ogunyemi said the decision to award the football administrator was unanimous, as concerned stakeholders paid glowing tributes to Alhaji Majekodunmi for his giant strides.

Prince Ogunyemi commended Majekodunmi's dedication, adding that football under his watch in Ogun State has witnessed significant development.

He stressed that his position as the Chairman, Youth Football Committee of the NFF is also rubbing off positively through numerous youth-oriented initiatives like the Under-19 state League and the annual age grade football competition for Boys and Girls, among others.

The Abeokuta Sports Club's number one man praised Alhaji Majekodunmi's foresight which he said has continued to foster talent development and promoted initiatives that strengthen the community's love for the round leather game.

In a remark, Alhaji Majekodunmi who appreciated Abeokuta Sports Club for the recognition,attested to the fact that there is no gainsaying that the football industry affects the society positively, he assured that the Ogun State Football Association will continue to do everything humanly possible to ensure that more is done in terms of development, particularly at the grassroots.

Ogun State Government has rewarded exceptional athletes, that represented the State at the National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State with over Seven million naira as motivation.

Governor Dapo Abiodun while presenting the cheques to the athletes in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, pointing out the state government would institutionalised reward for hard work and outstanding performances, especially in sports.

Represented by Commissioner of Sports, Mr Wasiu Isiaka, Gov. Abiodun attributed the successes recorded during the games and other competitions, to his administration's resolve to take sports back to the grassroots.

The Governor revealed that his administration would use the National Sports Festival to lay a solid foundation for sports in the State, especially the school and grassroots sports, saying these are parts of the reasons, the government was revamping stadia across the state.

Earlier, the Acting Director of Sports, Mr. Oluseyi Sonde had appreciated Governor Dapo Abiodun for his commitment to sports development in the state, urging the medalists to continue to strive for excellence, as their success was not just a testament of individual accomplishments, but a reflection of the potential within them.

He noted that the power of sports, if well utilised, could unite, inspire and transform lives, advising the young athletes to be inspired by the examples before them, to work hard, be focused and never give up on their dreams.

Responding on behalf of the medalists, Ayomide Heritage, who emerged as the best wrestler in the 42kg category at the Youth Games, expressed gratitude to the State Governor for the kind gesture, noting that the financial reward would go a long way in boosting their career, promising to work hard and make the state proud in subsequent National and International competitions.

According to the Information officer attached to the ministry, Ayobami Disu, gold medalists were presented with a cheque of N300,000, silver medalists with, N200,00O and bronze medalists N 100,000.

Increased in the budgetary allocation and empowering survivors have been identified as essential ingredients in the fight against gender based related issues.

This was the submissions of various stakeholders in Abeokuta at the grand finale of the 16 days activism against gender based violence put together by a non governmental organization, APIN Public Health Initiatives.

The State team approach lead, Dr Oluwatobi Olaniyi expressed optimism that with the increase awareness and advocacy visit to religious and community leaders, the fight against gender based violence could be won before the 2030 target.

Dr Olaniyi who said there was the need for a functional answer workable systems that would ensure the perpetrator received the appropriate punishment to serve as deterrent to others noted that it was high time for government to include gender norms session in schools activities to raise the consciousness of the students.

Also, the APIN Ogun gender focal person, Mrs Favour Ojo-Omoniyi said the group had visited eight schools in the state to educate the learners on the gender based related issues since the commencement of the campaign in November.

Mrs Ojo-Omoniyi Omoniyi called for the support of stakeholders in the fight against the gender based violence in the country.

The acting Director, Ministry of Women Affairs, Mrs Adewusi Jumoke who expressed worry over the increase rate of gender based violence reiterated the ministry's commitment to collaborate with relevant bodies in the fight against gender based issues in the state.

Contributing, the GBV lead, Ogun state Agency for the control of AIDS, Mrs Adenike Olusipe said the theme of the campaign, "Unite to End Violence Against Women and Girls, " was a compelling reminder that eradicating gender-based violence required collective efforts.

Earlier, the Head of office, Ogun APIN office, Pharm Micheal Ohue had thanked tbe various stakeholders for their efforts towards reducing gender based issues in the country.

Arrangements for the Ogun state Football Association annual general assembly have been concluded.

Venue of the event is Egba Inner Circle Mini Hall, Abiola Way, Olorunsogo, Abeokuta beginning from 11am.

The Director General, National Sports Commission, Chief Bukola is expected to flag off the 3rd edition of the Ogun women run.

the Managing Director, Brussels Sports Management Limited, organizers of the event, Mr Seyi Johnson who disclosed this in Abeokuta during a parley with members of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) announced that one thousand, five hundred athletes would participate at the race

The 5km race schedule to hold on Saturday in Abeokuta will see winners going home with cash price of five hundred thousand naira, three hundred thousand naira and two hundred thousand naira respectively.

He noted the race would be in two categories for young runners and older women of 60years and above.

The older athletes according to him, will also be given household items courtesy of Oluwalogbon Electronics, co-sponsors of the race which is expected to take off at Sapon and finish at MKO Abiola International Stadium in Kuto

The race will commence with Wheel chair racing at 7:30am before the race proper by 8:00am.

Meanwhile, an ambassador of the road race and ex-Olympian, Mary Onyali expressed satisfaction with the steady progress recorded by every edition of the race, promising to use her high network of prominent individuals to enhance the status of the competition.

The former Africa record holder in 100m and 200m and Olympic bronze medalist commended the effort of CEO of Brussels Sports Management Limited and Ogun State Government for the successes recorded in the two previous editions, urging other states to emulate by organizing such competition to encourage more women participation in sports.

In line with the drive to help build christian homes that will positively impact the nation, Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Catholic Church, Adigbe, Abeokuta has held the maiden edition of the "Home Builders Forum."

The Home Builders Forum, an initiative of the Church's Education Committee, is a program through which women are educated on issues of physical and spiritual needs relevant for the growth of christian homes. The Forum also provides the platform for women to benefit from free medical checks and counselling.

Speaking during the Forum held at the Church's auditorium in Adigbe, Abeokuta, the Parish Priest, the Reverend Father Gabriel Oyebola said the program was organised deliberately for women because women were important to the development of the church and the nation.
Father Oyebola urged the participants to use the knowledge gained to improve themselves and their homes while encouraging them to also transmit the knowledge gained to others.

" You are our special focus we want you to be happy not only in your marriage but as mothers and women. The things you have learnt can be useful for your children and even friends. If the mothers are well equipped we know the Church is well equipped, that is the reason this program has been organized. Please make the lessons you have learnt today count," the cleric said.

He commended the Education Committee for consistently organising different beneficial programs which have been contributing to the development of the church.

Delivering the lecture titled, "Remain Connected" a Psycho-Spiritual Counselor and Therapist, Rev. Fr. Michael Adenigba said emotional, mental and spiritual connection to God is required by women who want to positively impact their homes and by extension the country at large.

According to Rev. Fr. Adenigba, women who want to make the right impact need to be connected to God by being open and honest in communicating with others, understanding their vulnerability, seeking guidance from God, surrendering unto God and community fellowship.

In the second lecture titled, " The Woman and Her Hormones", a family physician, Dr. (Mrs.) Temitope Yomibo-Sofolahan said hormones are critical chemical secretions in the life of women which shapes development in women's bodies.

She noted that women need to understand their bodies and gain appropriate knowledge about hormonal issues since hormones have a way of affecting them.

Earlier in his welcome address, Chairman, Education Committee, Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Parish, Adigbe, Abeokuta, Dr. Olu. Ola. Aikulola said the program has been initiated to nurture women so as to have a better home, church and nation at large.

Aikulola who is also the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment disclosed that the Home Builders Forum would hold twice in a year adding that the Forum would focus on issues bothering on physical and spiritual needs of women.

In their reactions, some of the participants at the event, Mrs Adeola Augustine, Mrs. Ijeoma Eziebuo and Mrs Victoria John lauded the organisers for holding the event describing the initiative as an educating and beneficial event that should be continued.

The participants called for more women and men to be invited to participate at future editions.

Organisers of the Women-oriented 5KM Road Race, Ogun Women Run, Brussels Sports Management Limited are putting finishing touches to preparations for the third edition of the Race which comes up on Saturday, 7th December, 2024 in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

As part of Pre-event routine, the route recce took place on Monday where sponsors and other Stakeholders were taken through the routes for the event.

Managing Director of Brussel Sports Management Limited, Mr. Seyi Johnson explained that the exercise was necessary in order for all parties involved to operate in tandem with the rules guiding road races globally.

He said "Its a tradition for us to inspect the routes and get everyone working on the project, inclined with strategic positions and what's obtainable and applicable.

"It's important for the sponsors and security operatives to have a view of what the City looks like, that gives them an insight into their own mode of operations. That has been sorted and we are already looking forward to the Big day.

"As usual, the race will get underway in Sapon, opposite First Bank, runners will navigate their ways through IBB Boulevard, through Kuto and then wrap up at the finish line inside the MKO Abiola stadium.

Mr. Seyi Johnson assured that new initiatives that will add colour and glamour have been put in place, he harped on the need for Women to keep themselves afloat in the scheme of things, adding that the Ogun Women Run is one of his own ways of empowering and celebrating Women who have in no small measure contributed to Nation building.

Meanwhile, Expo and kits pickup for the Race will begin on Wednesday, 4th December, 2024 at the MKO Abiola stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta starting from 8am daily, it will wrap up on Friday 6th December.

The Ogun State chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria ( SWAN) has felicitated the State Chairman of Football Association, Alhaji Ganiyu Majekodunmi on the occasion of his birthday.

In a statement by the chairman of the Association, Comrade Michael-Azeez Ogunsiji noted that the celebrant's tireless efforts to promote and develop football in Ogun State have not gone unnoticed, and he celebrates his dedication and passion.

The SWAN Chairman described the FA boss as a football talisman who dedicated his entire life to the growth of the round leather game in Ogun State and Nigeria generally.

He noted that since the assumption of office as NFF Executive Board member, he has used his position to further reposition football through his capacity as NFF Match Commissioner Vice Chairman Committee.

Ministers of God have been admonished to stand firmly rooted in the building of the church of God as handed over to them by Christ and try to churn the anxiety which the world brings.

The District Coordinating Council of the Lafenwa District,of the Christ Apostolic Church, Pastor Isaac Oluwatusin made the call on Sunday at the 60th anniversary, Adult Harvest and induction of new superintendent of the Christ Apostolic Church, Mount Zion, Totoro headquarters.

The man of God urged the congregation to let go of their past attributes that is denying them the love of Chirst,while reminding them that pursuing worldly things will lead them nowhere, except they seek after the love of God.

He challenged the congregation to search their conscience and see what work God has called them to do which they have abandoned, saying it can only be well with them when they follow the instructions of God as laid down.

In a remark, The new Totoro District Superintendent, Pastor Jacob Akinloye promised to adhere strictly to his mandate and uphold the legacies of the founding fathers of the Church, while wishing the entire congregation happy 60th anniversary.

The Church was founded in 1964 by late Prophet Samson Adewale who according to the children left a legacy of dedicated service to the work of God which manifested in the fact that majority of his children and even the grandchildren are ministers of God.

Highlight of the 60th anniversary included a playlet by the youths of the church, songs ministration among others.

Ogun State contingents have recorded four medals at the just concluded National Arts and Craft Festival, (NAFEST) 2024, in Abuja.
The contingents, who competed with other 27 states in the country, emerged first in the Traditional Wrestling, second in Children Arts and Crafts, as well as Archery, and third position in Indigenous Materials for Interior Decoration.
Reacting to the outstanding performance of the contingents, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Oluwasesan Fagbayi, appreciated them for exhibiting their talents towards the success of the event.
Hon. fagbayi, who also lauded the state government for supporting management of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, as well as the contingents, said it was an opportunity for them to connect with the cultures, traditions and rich cultural heritage of other states in the country.
" I am so delighted and pleased to be a participant at this national cultural event, God has given talents to every person and individuals, and NAFEST has really helped to identify and develop these talents as well as connecting contemporary cultures with traditional cultures especially amongst the youths ", the Commissioner stated.
While describing arts and culture as a viable sector, Hon. Fagbayi noted that, NAFEST with the theme: ' Connected Culture' had showcased talents in the youths, saying their continuous engagement would strengthen the rich cultural heritages of Nigerians.
Lending his voice, Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr. Yusuff Quudus said the medals received by the states was an indication of the Prince Dapo Abiodun -led administration's commitment to the development and advancement of the culture sector.
He stated further that through NAFEST, Ogun would be able to network with other states of the federation to develop some of its untapped cultural heritages while leveraging on its economic benefits.
In a remark, Director of Culture, Mr. Femi Osanyinpeju, who received the awards on behalf of the contingents, commended the state participants for their doggedness and excellent performances, which earned them medals, particularly Archery for the first time in the history of the state.
Responding, one of the contingents, Mr. Fagbenro Gbenga thanked the state government and the ministry for providing them with necessary resources and logistics to achieve success during the event.

Ogun State Government has reiterated its commitment to creating an enabling environment for Corps members to explore their full potential and contribute meaningfully to the advancement of the State.

This was the submission of the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun at the Swearing-in ceremony of the 2024 Batch C Stream 1 Orientation course, at the Sagamu International Stadium, describing as vital, the roles youths play, as drivers of economic, social, and political development.

Represented by his Commissioner in the Sports Development Ministry, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka, Abiodun commended the National Youth Service Corps for its consistent efforts in sustaining this noble initiative, saying the implementation of citizen-friendly policies and programmes by the Scheme has significantly contributed to improving the quality of life, especially among rural dwellers.

He maintained that Ogun State remains a leader in youth development and empowerment, as it reflected in the robust job creation, poverty alleviation, and food security initiatives, submitting that his efforts are part of a deliberate strategy to foster prosperity, particularly for the youth, and to ensure the continued progress of the state.

He stated that the laudable activities of the NYSC underscore its enduring relevance, highlights the foresight of its founding fathers in establishing an institution that serves as a catalyst for national unity and development just as he encouraged the leadership of the NYSC to continue rendering invaluable services to the nation and humanity at large.

"Your reports of seamless adjustment to the regimented camp life, as well as the prevailing peace and tranquility in the camp, underscore your readiness to adapt and overcome future challenges."

"Discipline and adaptability will serve as a testament to your character long after your service year. I am confident that you are well-prepared to make Ogun State proud through your dedication and contributions in your host communities and places of primary assignment", the Governor said.

Earlier, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs. Olayinka Diana Nasamu,had appreciated the Dapo Abiodun led administration for the numerous support and attention the scheme had received and noted that the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme would equip the Corps members with various skills during and after the orientation exercise.

She appealed to the new Corp members to learn at least two skills for their self-reliance, which would ultimately make them employers of labour, submitting that white collar jobs are becoming increasingly scarce.

She further advised them to identify with the needs of their host communities during the service year and work towards addressing them, saying greater rewards await the best Corps member who makes positive impact(s).

The National Association of Nigeria Traditional Medicine Practitioners (NANTMP), has called on government at all levels, to formulate policy that will promotes indigenous medicine practice.

This was brought to the fore during the association's 2024 Southwest Zone National Conference, organised by the South-West Zone of the Association, in collaboration with United Nations Federation of International Astro on the Practice of Traditional Medicine in Nigeria, at Olumo Rock Auditorium Hall, Ikija Abeokuta, tagged; “The Impacts of NAFDAC in the preparation and selling of herbal medicine in Nigeria".

Speaking, NANTMP National President, Alhaji Shaaba Mekudi, said the practice should be regarded as conventional medicine with necessary government's backing, such as provision of resources and logistics for research, availability of modern equipment, regulatory agencies, removal of needless bottlenecks, among others.

He urged the National Assembly to step up action on the passage of the bill that establish Traditional, Complementary and Alternative Council of Nigeria (TCACN).

Mekudi said, “the establishment of the council will help to regulate the practice of traditional medicine in accordance with what is suitable for our country and upscale its standards such that it will meet up with the international expectations".

In a lecture, African Regional Coordinator for the United Nations Federation of International Astro (UNFIA), Professor Olumuyiwa Babalola, stated that the federation’s presence in the country represented an exciting opportunity to elevate, empower and integrate traditional medicine as a vital part of our national healthcare system.

“Through training programmes, the United Nations Federation of International ASTRO aims to work closely with practitioners to standardise and enhance these practices, ensuring that patients receive safest and most reliable health care services possible. My organisation is going to introduce certificate of alternative medicine course in partnership with the Ministry of Health across the country to build trust and confidence between the public and practice’’, he noted.

Contributing, Nigerian Zonal Director of the National Food and Drugs Control, (NAFDAC), Mrs. Roselle Ajayi in her lecture, said the Agency controls consumable items in the country, to ensure safety of the citizens, affirming that Alternate Medicine Practitioners was one of the key sectors that maintains cordial relationship with the agency, towards ensuring standard packaging of the products.

Also speaking, Chairman, Ogun State Alternate Medicine Board, Balogun Nurudeen Olaleye, appreciated organisers and participants at the event, saying the present administration in the state had done a lot in promoting the practice, while adequate laws had been put in place to make the practice easy for the practitioners in the State.

One time African Handball player of the year, Mr Adeyemi Osawe has commended President Bola Tinubu for scrapping the Ministry of sports and reestablished the National Sports Commission, NSC.

Mr Osawe who stated this in an interview with Journalists expressed optimism that the commission would engender grassroots sports development and improve the nation's performance at international circles.

The former international handball player described the appointment of Shehu Dikko as the Chairman and Mr Bukola Olopade as the Director General of the commission as a step towards the redevelopment of sports in the country.

While receiving a 28-man list of players selected from across the state's four zones, Hon. Isiaka emphasized the need for a transformative approach and urged the technical crew led by Festus Allen to turn things around.

The commissioner expressed gratitude to Governor Dapo Abiodun's administration for its unwavering support and urged the players to repay the faith placed in them:

The Ogun State chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has congratulated Hon. Bukola Olopade on his appointment as Director General (DG) of the National Sports Commission (NSC).

... Says Operations to begin in March 2025 - Abiodun

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has said that the 250-bed hospital abandoned by the previous administration, located at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, would be partially opened in March 2025, while full operations would begin in June of the same year.

Governor Abiodun disclosed this on Thursday at the handing over of the hospital to Viewpoint Health Management Services Limited and Pan African Capital Holdings at his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

He said the specialist hospital, which is currently about 65 per cent complete, was inherited from the previous administration and would provide world-class health services to Nigerians when completed.

Abiodun said: "This hospital will meet the precise needs of our population. It is scheduled for partial opening in March 2025 and full operations in June 2025."

"We are resolute in our mission to ensure this world-class facility serves the people of Ogun State. Following a rigorous process of months of negotiation, we are excited to finally close the concession partnership for this hospital."

"This hospital facility is an ongoing development in partnership with Viewpoint Health Management Services Limited, which is in partnership with HealthShare South Africa, a very reputable hospital management company. This stands as a testament to our shared commitment to delivering state-of-the-art healthcare to our people."

"Unlike a fixed 250-bed designation, Viewpoint will complete all civil works, reconfigure the facility, provide other required additional equipment, staff, and manage the hospital to ensure it operates in line with global best practices."

"As per the contractual agreement, the completion of this hospital’s physical structure and equipment setup will be managed by Viewpoint Health Management Services Limited, who will also operate the facility for a stipulated period. We will work tirelessly alongside them to provide world-class healthcare for our people."

The hospital, Governor Abiodun emphasized, would be equipped with advanced facilities and cutting-edge technology for effective healthcare delivery, as well as serve as a referral centre for medical research, training, and innovation.

"This facility will be affiliated with the Abuja Medical Centre of Excellence, managed by King's College Hospital, and will open in the first quarter of 2025," the governor added.

Prince Abiodun expressed confidence that the facility, when operational, would drastically reduce the amount of foreign exchange spent on medical tourism overseas and lay a foundation for long-term growth in the state and national healthcare sector.

Abiodun, who said his administration is working to ensure accessible and equitable healthcare for all, also revealed that bids for the renovation of an additional 74 Primary Healthcare Centers (PHCs), in collaboration with the World Bank, have been advertised, just as the government awaits grant approval from AFREXIM to further expand Primary Healthcare Centres in the state.

Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, in her remarks, said the hospital would set a benchmark in the nation's health sector as it aims to strengthen the sector to bring healthcare services to the doorsteps of the people.

While appreciating the governor for his visionary leadership and efforts in getting the project underway, the commissioner said it is coming at the right time and place.

The Chairman of Pan African Capital Holdings, Mr. Chris Oshiafi said negotiations for the takeover of the hospital started three years ago, assuring that his organization is ready to deliver the best medical facility that would discourage medical tourism in the country.

Chairman of Viewpoint HealthShare, South Africa, Dr. Tony Decoito said his company would work towards ensuring the timely completion of the hospital.

Dr. Decoito said his organization is currently operating in 15 African countries, with six in West Africa, stating that his organization has a complete work plan for the hospital and is ready to complete it in six months' time.

The Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) plays a pivotal role in fostering national unity, disseminating information, and educating the Nigerian populace. FRCN employees work tirelessly to uphold the mission of the organization, often under strenuous and challenging conditions. However, despite their commitment, the welfare and remuneration of FRCN staff have remained far below the standards needed to sustain a dignified quality of life. Many employees are now struggling to meet their basic needs due to inadequate pay and insufficient welfare benefits, with 95% of FRCN staff reportedly living on debt. It is on these grounds that we humbly appeal to the Minister of Information and the Director General of FRCN to address the pressing issues of salary increases, welfare packages, 13th-month allowances, overdue promotions, and operational improvements for FM stations nationwide.

1. Increase in Salary: Reducing Debt and Financial Burden on Staff

Currently, FRCN staff are grappling with financial challenges largely due to their meager salaries. The cost of living has increased significantly across Nigeria, making it almost impossible for FRCN employees to survive on their current income. As a result, an alarming 95% of FRCN employees are living on debt, forced to borrow money from friends, family, and financial institutions to make ends meet. This cycle of debt has not only impacted their financial well-being but has also taken a toll on their mental and emotional health, ultimately affecting their productivity and morale at work.

Increasing salaries is no longer a matter of mere convenience but a necessity to uplift the workforce from the shackles of debt and financial hardship. Other federal civil servants in Nigeria receive higher salaries, which allow them to live more comfortably. We therefore appeal to the Ministry of Information and the FRCN management to urgently review and increase the salaries of FRCN staff to bring them on par with their peers in other federal agencies. A salary increase would not only provide financial relief but also improve the morale of the employees, leading to higher productivity and a more motivated workforce.

2. Provision of a Comprehensive Welfare Package

Apart from the issue of salary, the welfare of FRCN employees requires immediate attention. Unlike their counterparts in other federal agencies, FRCN staff lack a comprehensive welfare package that includes essentials such as healthcare, housing allowances, and retirement benefits. Given the demanding nature of their work, it is crucial that FRCN employees have access to quality healthcare services and housing allowances to support a stable life outside of work.

By introducing a holistic welfare package, FRCN would address many of the critical needs of its employees, such as medical support, housing, and transportation, which are currently lacking. Improved welfare provisions would not only promote the health and well-being of staff but also ensure a more stable and loyal workforce. We urge the Ministry and FRCN leadership to take immediate steps to establish a welfare package that guarantees these basic entitlements, fostering a sense of security and belonging among employees.

3. Introduction of a 13th-Month Allowance

A 13th-month allowance has become a standard benefit in many federal institutions, recognizing the hard work and commitment of employees with an additional month’s pay at the end of the year. This allowance provides essential financial support to help workers manage the increased expenses often incurred during the holiday season. Unfortunately, FRCN staff have been excluded from this benefit, placing them at a financial disadvantage compared to other federal employees who receive this additional support.

Introducing a 13th-month allowance for FRCN employees would not only align the Corporation with the best practices observed in other federal agencies but also serve as a morale booster for the staff. By offering this allowance, the Ministry and FRCN management would show a commitment to their welfare, acknowledging the dedication of employees who contribute to FRCN’s mission of public service. This annual bonus would offer much-needed financial relief and enhance job satisfaction among employees.

4. Release of the 2024 Promotion Letters and Payment of One-Year Promotion Arrears

Career advancement through timely promotions is essential for maintaining employee motivation and professional development. Sadly, many FRCN employees have been waiting for their 2024 promotion letters for far too long, with some facing delays that span over a year. These delays not only hinder the career growth of staff but also deny them the financial benefits associated with higher positions.

We respectfully appeal to the Minister of Information and the FRCN management to expedite the release of the 2024 promotion letters for all deserving staff. Additionally, we request the payment of one-year promotion arrears for all staff who have already been promoted but have yet to receive the financial benefits of their new positions across the country. Addressing these delays in promotions and arrears payments would show FRCN’s commitment to recognizing the hard work of its employees and reward them accordingly. A timely and fair promotion process is crucial for building a motivated and effective workforce.

5. Ensuring Optimal Functioning of FM Stations Across the 36 States

FRCN’s FM stations in the 36 states are essential for reaching out to communities, promoting national development initiatives, and fostering a unified national identity. Unfortunately, many of these stations face operational challenges, including outdated equipment, inconsistent power supply, lack of maintenance, and inadequate funding. These issues have severely impacted the quality of FRCN’s broadcast services, limiting the Corporation’s reach and effectiveness.

For FRCN to fulfill its mandate of providing quality information, education, and entertainment to Nigerians, it is crucial that all FM stations operate at their full potential. We therefore appeal to the Ministry of Information and FRCN management to allocate sufficient funds for the acquisition and maintenance of modern broadcasting equipment, training of technical staff, and regular maintenance of station facilities. Improving the operational capacity of FRCN’s FM stations will not only enhance the Corporation’s service delivery but also allow it to contribute more meaningfully to the nation’s development.

CONCERNED FRCN STAFF

In a strategic move to foster youth development and empower football talent across Ogun State, Gateway United FC is set to extend its preseason activities to every zone of the state through a series of friendly games with selected players from open trials.

Beginning Monday, November 11, 2024, aspiring football players will have the opportunity to showcase their skills in various regions:

*Ijebu Zone*: Trials will be held at the Dipo Dina Stadium, with players expected to arrive on or before 9:00 AM.

*Remo Zone*: Interested participants should report to Gateway International Stadium by 3:00 PM the same day.

*Yewa Zone*:
The trials will continue the following day, Tuesday, November 12, with activities in at Gateway Stadium, Ilaro at 10 am.

*Egba zone*
Finally, Wednesday, November 13 will be Abeokuta’s turn, as trials take place at Asero Stadium starting at 9:00 AM.

All talented and unattached players residing in Ogun State are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity. This initiative reflects the commitment of the current administration to identifying and nurturing sporting talent, guiding them toward achieving professional success.

Selected players from these trials will form the new Team B of Gateway United FC, representing a pool of emerging talent for future engagements and competition.
