Jonathan said this in reaction to a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, blaming his administration for late appointment of cabinet members by his boss, President Muhammadu Buhari. Shehu, while speaking when he featured on Sunrise Daily, a programme on Channels Television yesterday, December 17 said the refusal of Jonathan’s government to cooperate with the transition committee led to delay in appointments. But, reacting, Jonathan in a statement by his media aide, Ikechukwu Eze said he should not be blamed for the failure of Buhari to appoint ministers early enough in the life of his government, daily Post reports. The former president said that handover notes from a predecessor does not contain the list of ministers for the incoming administration. Jonathan urged Shehu to seek ways to better situation of the country rather than blame previous administration for its performance. The statement read: “As strange as that particular assertion may sound, it still beggars belief that a spokesman of a president who is seeking re-election would still be looking for a scapegoat for the administration’s failure, at a time he should be showcasing his scorecard. “That amounts to merely clutching at straws. Handover notes, being transitioning documents, are usually received by an incoming president from his predecessor at the time of change of government. “It is not a document that guides a president to appoint his ministers. “Under normal circumstances, a newly inaugurated president needs the support of his ministers, who would handle different departments of government, to study and understand his handover notes for effective performance of his initial duties. “Those who think like Shehu that a government would not function properly if it does not receive handover notes in time, should be reminded that there is no law establishing the process. “It is simply a matter of convenience for an outgoing president to develop handover notes to guide his successor understand key issues and hit the ground running. “Sometimes, when Mr. Shehu speaks, he comes across as someone who is unaware of the fact that, under our laws, an administration is elected for a tenure of four years within which it is expected to have fulfilled its campaign promises, before returning to the electorate for a fresh mandate. “In case he does not know, Shehu should be reminded that blaming others for one’s failures is not a prove of performance. “Assuming, without out conceding, that the last administration was as bad as they want Nigerians to believe, is it not a fact of governance that it is the duty of every responsible administration to seek to make better the situation it met on ground?” According to him, “while Buhari’s government continued to blame his administration for its failure to deliver on their mandate, there are many African success stories that proved that a progress-minded administration has no business focusing only on the past. “From a past of the worst genocide in recent history, Rwandan President Paul Kagame did not blame anybody when he took charge. He simply hit the ground running, and today, we all know where Rwanda stands in Africa’s growth and development index. “The story is similar in Cote d’Ivoire where President Alassane Ouattara was able to turn around the Ivorian economy within two years after it had virtually collapsed following the negative impact of the country’s worst political crisis. “As the Buhari government nears its end, the minders of the administration should please tell Nigerians what new projects, programmes and institutions for good governance they have added to those established by the various administrations of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), since they took over.” http://www.nigerianmonitor.com/gooduck-jonathan-says-he-is-not-to-blame-for-buharis-administration/

Leading stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Lagos State are gathering today to take briefings from party leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu amidst apprehensions on the intentions of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode ahead of the forthcoming governorship election. It was yet unclear as at press time yesterday if Tinubu, the undisputed leader of the party in Lagos, nay, the Southwest would dwell on the mutterings by some party leaders that Governor Ambode is halfhearted, if not, funding the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP governorship campaign as payback for the way he was stopped from seeking a second term. Close associates of the outgoing governor, however, deny the claim and allege a conspiracy by the mainstream of the party to paint the governor black for whatever purpose. Governor Ambode’s associates say that despite collapsing his campaign structure into that of Sanwo-Olu and professing loyalty to the party that the outgoing governor is still held in suspicion over his intentions. It is also reported that the governor’s invitations to the Sanwo-Olu camp for harmonization of campaign had remained unheeded until last week. The mutterings and suspicions in the party follow the October primaries in which Sanwo-Olu, the anointed candidate of Tinubu and the mainstream of the party outwitted the incumbent governor for the party’s governorship ticket. It was the first time since the advent of the Fourth Republic, nay since the creation of the state that a sitting governor in the state would be denied a return ticket. Following the declaration of Sanwo-Olu as the party’s candidate, Governor Ambode had done a volte-face and openly endorsed him and pledged support for him and the party to win all elections in the state. His declaration and actions have, however, not excited many following reports now and then of alleged plans by the governor to back the PDP candidate, Jimi Agbaje at the last minute. At the centre of the musings Vanguard gathered is the report that Ambode has not released money to the Sanwo-Olu campaign and even blocked channels for such. That suspicion was not helped by the recent defection to the PDP of Mr. Olawale Oluwo, the immediate past commissioner for energy from the party. That defection sent strong signals to some observers who claimed that Oluwo, from the same Epe base of the governor was acting a script by Ambode. Oluwo’s defection was seen by some as indicative of the governor’s proclivity given that the former commissioner was one of the closest to the governor and part of his inner caucus. The governor was, however, quick to denounce Oluwo and deny any dealing between the two of them concerning the governorship election. His antagonists within the party, however, do not believe him with one such critic saying: “I can tell you that what Ambode said was a damage control attempt after we confronted him with proofs of his double-dealing. He goes to the public to say he is supporting the party’s choice, Sanwo-Olu, but he is doing the opposite in reality. We are aware of the unwholesome activities of people he sent to be part of the campaign team for the party in the state but these moles only come to our meetings to gather information and pass on to the enemy.” Some mainstream APC activists allege that the governor has besides not funding the APC machine, but is also alleged to be funding the PDP campaign with the intention of ensuring the defeat of his party’s candidate in the election. However, that suggestion is derided by Ambode’s close associates. One of the associates in dismissing the conspiracy theories around the outgoing governor affirmed that it was in Ambode’s best interest to promote the candidature of Sanwo-Olu on the claim that a PDP government would witch-hunt him on both his decisions as governor and before then as accountant-general of the state. Governor Ambode had been observed to have put aside the mudslinging that characterized the party governorship primaries between him and Sanwo-Olu and pledged his support for the latter. He has also been actively involved in moves to reconcile the different tendencies and factions in the party being a member of the party’s reconciliation team in the Southwest. However, suggestions of Ambode double-dealing are frowned upon by his associates. One of them speaking on condition of anonymity declared that Ambode was conscious of the fact that only an APC government that can give him the necessary protection after he has left office. “Not just as governor, but even as account-general, he was in charge of the state’s finances and he is not unconscious of the fact that a PDP government could go back several years to nail him down,” the source said. The present issues in the party have not been helped by the fact that no major platform has been made for reconciliation. Vanguard gathered that the Sanwo-Olu camp may still be embittered by the allegation raised by the governor during the primary campaign where he alleged that the APC candidate had a history of mental illness. It was gathered that Ambode had as at press time not made an apology on the issue. Another cause for concern among some APC stakeholders is the alleged support given to one of the most controversial decisions of Governor Ambode by the PDP candidate, Agbaje. While appearing on a Channels Television programme, Agbaje was reported to have given his endorsement for the deal with Visionscape, the waste management company that is blamed for the mountain of refuse that today loiter Lagos State. The contract with Visionscape which dislocated party operatives in the APC from what it is claimed to be their honey pie, that is the Private Sector Participation, PSP operation in wastage disposal, was one of the issues that caused the governor support among the grassroots. Agbaje’s support for the Visionscape contract it is alleged, could be one way of cementing a linkage with the outgoing governor and as such fueling the conspiracy theories around him and the PDP. Agbaje has every reason to court Ambode. The PDP’s candidate past foible of challenging Chief Bode George in the PDP national chairmanship contest has lessened enthusiasm for his candidature among the grassroots loyal to George. Besides that, the decision of Mr. Femi Otedola to openly side with Sanwo-Olu may also have denied him of much needed funding. These reasons it is claimed would push Agbaje to push any deal with Ambode. It is in that context that it is alleged that the PDP candidate might have backed the Visionscape contract despite the wild public resentment of the company and its failure to manage waste in Lagos. Nevertheless, assertions that Governor Ambode is funneling money to the PDP opposition is dismissed by the governor’s camp. “It is impossible for the governor to lock money away from Sanwo-Olu because all the channels for disbursement of Lagos money are not in the hands of the governor,” one source close to the governor said. “The money in the coffers of Lagos State is not in the hands of the governor, the people who impose have planted their people everywhere to take control of the money. They are the ones in charge, every layer of control in the state is in the hands of the man. Lagos is peculiar and different from other states,” the source added. They also note how Ambode has tried to reach out to Sanwo-Olu and been put at a distance. Vanguard gathered that it was only last weekend that the Sanwo-Olu camp honoured the governor’s invitations to come for the harmonization of the campaign structure. It was gathered that at least three invitations had been made in the past without as much as a response. “The governor has shown character and consistency but these people are still afraid they are afraid of oga’s shadow.” When Tinubu addresses the party operatives drawn from across the state today with these issues at the background, stakeholders will be watching out to see how he would navigate the landmines. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/12/lagos-2019-anxiety-over-ambodes-intentions-as-tinubu-speaks/amp/

The wife of the Ekiti State Governor, Chief Bisi Fayemi, says her husband’s administration will restore long-held values of the Ekiti people, in addition to fighting poverty and moral decadence. The governor’s wife gave the assurance in Ado-Ekiti on Friday while delivering a lecture entitled: ‘Reclaiming our Land, Restoring our Values: Beyond Slogan’. The lecture was organised as part of activities marking the 2018 Press Week of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ekitit State Council. Fayemi expressed optimism that the present administration in the state would introduce policies and programmes that would combat poverty and all forms of social ills. According to her, many of such challenges crept into Ekiti through the actions of compromising politicians. In his remarks, NUJ Chairman in the state, Mr. Rotimi Ojomoyela, lauded the governor’s wife for the lecture. He said it would go a long way in repositioning the lives of youths in the state. The chairman assured that the members of the pen profession in the state would work assiduously to ensure that the present administration realises its set objectives. The forum afforded Journalists in the state the opportunity to interact on mind boggling issues, especially on coming up with ways to restore the core values of the state beyond slogan. The Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organization (PPCO) has alleged that INEC and the presidency are planning to rig the 2019 general elections by creating illegal polling centres in Chad and Niger Republic. The Director Media and Publicity of PPCO, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, in a statement yesterday, said the “plot” to secretly create polling centres outside the shores of Nigeria was in total violation of the 1999 Constitution. "President Buhari, INEC and all Nigerians know that there are no provisions for Diaspora voting under our system. By the extant laws guiding elections in Nigeria, it is very clear who is eligible to vote, as well as the centres statutorily designated for elections. There is no provision for any special arrangement whatsoever,” he said. “It is therefore reprehensible that President Buhari, in his desperation to rig the elections, is now trying to hide under the guise of making special provision for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) outside the country, to illegally create rigging centres outside our country and import contrived figures into the election results. “This clandestine arrangement further validates the alarm earlier raised by the PDP, in April this year, of INEC’s plot to secretly create 30,000 illegal polling centres in some remote areas, through which they plan to allocate millions of votes to President Buhari and the APC,” he added. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/inec-presidency-plotting-to-rig-through-illegal-polling-centres-in-chad-niger-pdp-2.html

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has described the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a party of vagabonds, adding that the former national chairman of APC, Chief Bisi Akande is the grandfather of half-baked government for accusing striking lecturers of producing vagabonds and unemployable graduates. The union said it was unfortunate that a supposed leader of Akande’s status could render a statement with warped logic. Chief Bisi Akande had condemned the strike embarked upon by ASUU in Oke Ila Orangun where he went to commission one storey classroom donated to Abolarin college recently. He was reported to have said the union is destroying the country with demands that are not genuine. While reacting, the ASUU chairman, University of Ibadan, Dr. Deji Omole, said it was shameful that Chief Bisi Akande by age and previous offices held in the country before now is qualified to be called an elder statesman. Omole stated that Akande’s recent outburst against the ongoing patriotic struggle by ASUU to save public university education in Nigeria clearly exposed him that he is just an elder only by age but not a statesman. “The same Bisi Akande who himself was a teacher during the free education programme of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo sacked hundreds of teachers and left Osun state education in tatters now claims to value quality graduates while shying away from adequate investment in education. “It is on record that during Akande’s time as governor all the higher institutions in Osun State were closed down due to the anti-masses policy of his administration on education. “It is even self-indicting for the leader of a ruling party who is destroying public education with chronic underfunding of the existing institution but busy itself to mushrooming of new universities without any funding plan to still be talking in public. The budget for education in the current year was wickedly cut down to seven percent to demonstrate their hatred for public funded education,” Dr. Omole said. According to him, ASUU is not government that promised Nigerian youths gainful employment like the ruling party did and so “could not be blamed for the failure of the clueless government to establish industries.” The ASUU boss said it was because of the likes of Akande who is interested in killing public education to allow for their children and grandchildren to dominate and oppress the children of the masses that they go on strike. It looks like the National Youth Service Corps has pulled the plug on singer, Davido’s one year mandatory service programme. Recall that the singer revealed on Instagram in August that he would be taking part in the compulsory scheme. Also, it won’t be forgotten in a hurry how the OBO’s presence during registration caused an uproar in the Lagos camp. However, it seems like the IF singer is no longer a corper as NYSC may have likely canceled his service. One Adesegun Adebayo Adeosun had posted his letter of commendation for outstanding performance from NYSC on Instagram and not long after Davido showed up in the comments section with a message that read, “Nah so dem cancel my own.” Although Davido did not reveal the reason responsible for the cancellation of his programme, it can be recalled that the pop sensation flouted the NYSC rules and regulation a few times https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/12/nysc-cancels-davidos-service/amp/

The Presiding Bishop, Living Faith Church Worldwide, aka Winners’ Chapel, Dr. David Oyedepo has said that he has never received or shared any booty from any government in Nigeria. He boasted of God’s blessings on his life and that he has a clear conscience. “I don’t share any booty from any government. I have a clear conscience; I am dangerously wealthy. I am rich, whatever I want, comes. That’s what they call wealth,” the Bishop said. Oyedepo stated this at the opening session of Shiloh 2018, the annual gathering of the members of the Living Faith Church tagged “Dominion” at its International Headquarters, Canaan Land, Ota in Ogun State. The Bishop warned those he called ‘political gladiators’ to understand that authority is now domiciled in the church, saying, “If the church says you are going nowhere, there is nothing you can do.” Speaking on “Heralding the Dominion Era of the Church,” he declared that the authority that enthroned the church was from heaven and not man-made. “It is not something that we organise; it is by the hand of God. You can be upset, it won’t change anything,” he added. He told the congregation, which included 4,512 delegates from 43 nations of the world that God would be confirming in these last days that heavens rules in the affairs of men. “If the church comes against any arrogant, puffing fellows, they shall be messed up,” he affirmed. Oyedepo noted that for anyone to dominate his world, he has to first dominate the issues of his life. “Until one is rescued, he cannot rescue others. We must remove the beam in our eyes before we can remove the mote in other people’s eyes,” he urged. The event, which will end with a thanksgiving service on Sunday, December 9, 2018, is the 20th edition of the annual programme that features prayers, special ministrations, instant testimonies and encounter nights. https://www.newtelegraphng.com/2018/12/im-dangerously-wealthy-receives-booty-from-no-govt-oyedepo/

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that no level of illegal use of force by Federal Security Services will intimidate the government and people of the state. Governor Wike stated that the State Government remains committed to the legal use of the people’s mandate to advance the course of development. Speaking during the commissioning of Anaka multi-million naira multi-purpose community hall Ogbogoro town, Governor Wike who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Engr Chukwuemeka Woke urged Rivers people to remain peaceful and calm despite the provocative actions against their interest. He regretted the invasion of the Rivers State Neighbourhood Safety Corps Agency training camp by the Army, saying that it was done in bad faith. He said: “The Rivers State House of Assembly passed a bill establishing Neighbourhood Safety Corps Agency . The Governor of Rivers state signed that bill and it became a law of the state. If anybody or any organization or institution has anything against that law, what is natural, is to go to Court of law and challenge that law. “You are aware and have seen the level of provocation by federal agencies. Only last week, they invaded the training camp of the Neighbourhood Safety Corps Agency. But we are urging Rivers people to remain firm and strong. I tell you as far as Rivers state is concerned, we cannot be intimidated. No amount of federal might can intimidate us.” The governor added that the Rivers State Neighbourhood Safety Corps Agency has also created the needed employment and empowered youths across the state. He charged communities across the state to remain peaceful and support peace initiatives that will engender development. He said: “I thank you again for the peaceful atmosphere that we witnessed here since the week-long celebration. It shows that this community is in peace and everybody is living in peace. There cannot be any meaningful development in any community where there is no peace. “Let me also thank the youths of this community because I am aware that this project would have not come to this stage of commissioning , if the youths did not maintain peace in this community. I urge other communities in Ikwere ethnic nationality and indeed Rivers state at large to emulate the conduct of Anaka community.” He assured that his administration will continue to execute projects for the people as a means of boosting the economies of communities. Chairman of the occasion, Mr George Ihuigwe urged youths of the community to desist from crime and cultism. He said that he will contribute his quota to the development of the area by supporting the education of youths through the purchase of JAMB and WAEC forms. He thanked the Rivers State Governor for always identifying with the community through projects and participation in their key social functions. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/12/rivers-state-will-never-be-intimidated-says-governor-wike/amp/
