OLAADEGBU: The atheist's dilemma This dilemma doesn't exist. In the atheists use of words, evil means a wrong act that hurts (without spiritual influence). Atheistic position is that, morality is relative/subjective and not absolute/objective. Your God isn't a pervading influence, therefore the fabrications tied to god idea are mere thoughts of nil consequence. |

adepeter26: .
You’re making the mistake of assuming that a person’s position on the existence of God defines everything about their thoughts and actions. That is a false idea. My nonbelief in God does not define who I am, it only defines my position on God, which is only one of an incalculable number of things I have an opinion on. That I am atheist does not automatically make me moral-less. . The day the theists understand the clarification above, the very day their difficulties will be helped. |

DoctorAlien: 4kings, don't let me conclude that you're in the same category with akintom when it comes to comprehension.
First, Moses put down the account of Creation, and all the other events that occurred up until his time in writing. Before he did this, Patriarchs like Adam, Seth, Enoch, etc. have been passing these stories down orally. It is also not improbable that these Patriarchs may have put these events down in writing, but the writings were all lost.
It is not a thing of surprise if the pagan Sumerians hear this story from these Patriarchs(as they were spreading the knowledge of the true GOD), and then twist it with their own fables and put it down in writing. You must be deluding yourself, to think that the nauseating and obfuscating trash you spill on NL, deserves comprehension effort. |

I personally have witnessed some of the things he spoke which came to pass.
Firstly, the case with Prophet goddys, if you don't know that case, please go and know. Goddys prophesied doom against Otem and the exact doom came upon his own head exactly two days after the day it should have happened to Otem.
Secondly, Otem said something about one 4evergod who was defending christianity with passion. Otem said that 4evergod was a 419. Two to three months later, even the blind could see that 4evergod(bbfever or naijadeyhia) is actually a 419.
Otem also said that religion will fall. Now within the last one year in Nigeria, we can see how the 'touch not my anointed' stuff is no more acceptable, And people now criticise the men of god whom Otem describe as 'Men of Thieves'
Also, Otem said that Apostle Suleiman will fall. That one is already part of my 'scripture' because it has happened already. We can see Suleiman struggling right now.

kaybams1: You said my argument is faulty. Then you went on to explain what you 'think' atheism is because you didn't have a better word for it. For you to say someone's argument is faulty you need to be able to understand every pertinent concept used in the discourse very well before opposing. I replied by defining it better and saying you can read more on it to understand my point. And at the end you call that intellectual arrogance. You can do better than that. Your display of intellectual arrogance and faulty line, are tied to your attitude of ignoring the point i raised. Telling you that atheism is a mere "response position", and that it has nothing in relation to philosophical, ideological or conceptual positions. Since you fail to understand the meaning of "Atheism (for the lack of better word), i shall now tell you. The word atheism in its ordinary semantic connotation, suggest that it's ideological or philosophical position. The very creators of this descriptive and ideological " ism" are religious folks. The meaning of "for the lack of better word", comes from the fact that i am atheist, and the only "ismic" grammatical possibility for description is "Atheism". Even though the religious folks, out of malice, will still insist on forcing the ideological connotation on atheists, the atheists (who are qualified to appropriately define their position) subscribe to no such position. |

Why do we keep sustaining life of those being spent in poverty, sickness etc when it all a product of chance (not a product of a maker as you claim), can't we end it all and be at peace by returning all to the state of a non-existence
Just a thought and need answers from you guys. Thanks This misdirected and patronizing enquiry, is a product of muddled mind, who is lost in the idea that life and its assumed purpose, are all tied up in god idea. The empty assertion by the religious folks, that life has no meaning or purpose when god is out, inspired this thought of OP. It's this fabricated and self deluding assertion, that put Christians up as most irritatingly credulous elements. Kindly read more on Atheism, Theism and Agnosticism please to have a better understanding of my point. I have come to consider intellectual arrogance as the worst crime, when it comes to intellectual discussion. Did you read where i wrote *atheism (for the lack of better word)"? Christianity Etc › Re: A Case For Agnosticism by akintom(m): 5:13pm On Mar 20, 2017 |
kaybams1: Hmmmm... Am not too sure you have heard about a null and alternative hypothesis in research. If my research topic is 'investigating the existence of God' and my null hypothesis is saying 'God's existence is false'. The alternative hypothesis will always give a counter claim which is 'God's existence is true'. It's when you have defined that you can arrive at any conclusion in the first place. You rejecting a hypothesis cos it's structure has flaws in it but cannot provide an alternative hypothesis makes you an agnostic not an atheist. Atheists DO NOT BELIEVE GOD EXISTS. Agnostics accept that they do not have the sufficient information to be on any side. So there is a difference. Your arguments on atheism is faulty. First, atheism (for the lack of better word) isn't philosophical, ideological or conceptual position. Atheism is mere "response position" to a mere claim of existence of nothing (god). This response is just a mere rational out play. |

While acknowledging the ministers including the gospel musicians including Chioma Jesus, Monique, Edi Edwards Et al for their sterling contributions to the success of this year’s DOS convention, immediate past president of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor enjoined the womenfolk not to undermine any opportunity. He narrated how God once used a gateman to help him get an American visa after he was denied. According to him, he had been denied the visa and was going back dejected when he was this gateman smiling towards him, and wondering why a uniformed gateman was smiling and approached he managed to force a smile through the rejection. “He greeted me and pushed a piece of paper into my hand,” he said, wondering what the gateman wanted. “I opened it and discovered it was the direct line of the American ambassador. I dialed it and after exchange of greeting the man asked what he could do for me. I told him I am pastor and I have a preaching appointment in the US but I have been denied visa. “‘I had to pick your call because my secretary had just stepped out. I am not supposed to pick the call. Did you say you are a pastor? Please come in. ’ And when I got in the man said ‘I am always delighted to deal with pastors because my dad was a reverend,” he stated, adding that the man signed his visa immediately. “But when I came out and I asked after the gateman I was told there was no such person in the place. Cast your mind to a scene, where two men got into a fight, one of the men being a stronger opponent, was about inflicting a fatal injury on the weaker man.
Just at that moment, the wife of the weaker man, using her common sense, grab and pull the penis of the stronger man, so that her husband may live.
Now, the husband was rescued, the stronger man felt aggrieved and reported the case to the Christian god.
Below is the judgment of the Christian god:
Deuteronomy 25:11 When men fight with one another and the wife of the one draws near to rescue her husband from the hand of him who is beating him and puts out her hand and seizes him by the private parts,
Deuteronomy 25:12 then you shall cut off her hand. Your eye shall have no pity.
Is the wife of weaker man, not perfectly qualified to be called God?
May the children of these despotic and abusive god, receive sense in the name of FSM....... Amen. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Is There Any Difference Between Holy Spirit And Self Control? by akintom(op): 7:02am On Mar 18, 2017 |
ministerk: I'd like to add to this discussion. The sinner sins. That's what he does. All humans sin. All humans were born with free will. We are all given the right to choose. Man chose to distance himself from God(Genesis 3). Usually that is what we do - we sin. Why? Because we are guilty of sin from birth, a sinner the moment our mother conceived us (Psalm 51:5). The only way to be free from the chains of sin is to become a "child of God" - one must be born again (John 3:3-6). Otherwise, because we are innately sinful we cannot help ourselves. We will keep on sinning. Galatians 5:19-21 shows you how bad we can get. The opposite of self control is self-indulgence, un-restraint or even indiscipline. We act this way when we do not have the Spirit of God in us. We sin. But when we become believers, the same God who created heaven and earth resides in us, guiding us into "truth". He becomes our self-control. So notice, Christians will sin, and sometimes badly! But that is when they do not allow the Spirit of God to guide their words thoughts and actions. When a Christian obeys the Word of God and listens to the Holy Spirit, they absolutely cannot sin. It is then that they can have real self-control, because self control is a FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT (Galatians 5:23). When you have the Spirit of God working in you, He restrains your appetites, your passions and your desires. That's why Christians can find strength to remain faithful to their husband and wives. When we refuse to listen to the spirit, we can do all sorts of evil - that's when we have No Self - Control. But first, a sinner needs God to have real self control. Other than that they are disciplined enough to do good (works) with God's Spirit. Even the devil can do good. But real Self-Control is found In-Christ Jesus.
Someone in this thread said it well "Self Control is a work of Grace". Yes! We nail our flesh to the cross! *How is "self-control" different from "real self-control"? *can i have self control without holy spirit? |
