Ali Pate worked against Tuggar because of his own 2031 ambition. The question now is, is Abubakar Mohammed popular enough to win the general election? Is he no longer from Kogi state since that was the accusation they labeled against him in 2019? Considering how powerful Ali Pate already is, will MA be willing to support him in 2031?
Sir, Tuggar is elitist and not grassrooted just like Adelabu in Oyo and Fayemi in Ekiti. The most popular candidate APC has is sen Shehu buba and Ex Gov Abubakar. Gov Abubakar lost in 2019 to Bala narrowly via internal gangup, there's nothing stopping him from winning. Wunti is manageable
Tuggar is not it please. The only strong challenge is Sen Ningi who isn't conresting
PoliticsEx-Bauchi Governor, MA Abubakar emerges APC Governorship Candidiate by Akpakomiza2(op): 1:03pm On May 23
Former governor of Bauchi State, Barr. Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, SAN, has officially emerged as the winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in the State ahead of the 2027 general election.

Chairman of the APC Governorship and House of Assembly Primaries Committee for Bauchi State, Assistant Inspector General of Police, John Bassey Abang (retired), announced the results early Saturday morning, stating that the governorship primary was conducted on Friday, May 22.

According to him, Abubakar secured a total of 57,517 votes to defeat six other aspirants who participated in the exercise.

He said the immediate-past Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, scored 26,001 votes, while Nura Manu Soro polled 13,638 votes.

Other contestants included Bala Maijama’a A. Wunti, who secured 13,648 votes, and Kabir Baba Ma’aji, who polled 8,157 votes.

Also in the race were Baba Abubakar Suleiman with 7,688 votes, and Yakubu Yakubu Abdullahi, who scored 7,181 votes.

Declaring the winner, AIG Abang (rtd) stated that M.A. Abubakar, having secured the highest number of votes cast, was duly returned as the winner of the APC governorship primary election in Bauchi State.

The committee chairman also announced the results of the party’s State House of Assembly primaries, noting that the election was conducted earlier on Thursday, May 21.

LEADERSHIP reports that Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar served as governor of Bauchi State from 2015 to 2019 under the APC platform.

He lost his re-election bid in 2019 to incumbent Governor Bala Mohammed of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). His victory in the primary election now positions him as the APC’s flag bearer in the 2027 governorship election as he seeks a return to office for a second term..

I said and I repeat yes, the INEC guidelines are borne out of the CFRN. However, in a conflict between a delegated legislation and the Principal Act, the latter prevails. The Principal Act here is the Electoral Act and 10/10 will prevail over the INEC guidelines.
There is no conflict sir. Read the electoral act carefully, it never at any point fixed dates or time for inec to carry out its activities. There is no part of the electoral act where it says inec must conduct primaries, carry out elections on a particular date. The EA26 for instance says elections must be conducted not earlier than 180 days and not later that 30 days before handover date. It only becomes illegal when done outside not within. This is deliberate. The internment of the parliament is to leave the final fixing of the dates to the discretion of inec. The powers to conduct polling and all electoral activities are clearly with inec according to section 158 and not the courts or parliament.

That particular section says registers must be submitted not later than 120 days which means it can be submitted at any point before that date suggested by EA26 but inec must not exceed that date.
The electoral act simply provided rules and timelines and inec is expected to act within not outside. The dates inec chose is within that ambit not outside. The drafters of the law clearly recognized that inec will surely face logistic and human challenges, constraints therefore it never specified any date but left it for inec...
Crucially and in summary, the final date for elections, primaries, submission of registers will be determined by inec sir. See section 76. The supreme court as usual will come down on someone. The judge and in this case you are clearly on a wrong footing sir

The Electoral Act says names of Candidates should be submitted 120 days before the Election.

120 days from January should be September.

Again, the Electoral Act says the register should be regularly updated. The Electoral Act 2026 also says that the membership register should be submitted 21 days before the Primary. This simply means the Primary could even hold later than June.
Timeline for primaries ends 30 May. Maybe you want elections to hold 29 April

You lie if you say Nasir El-Rufai played no role in delivering Tinubu 2023. Even Tinubu himself acknowledge his contribution in the early part of his administration. Agreed, he didn’t deliver his own state, but his influence across the North during that election was obvious.

All these politicians you mentioned that you claim are still with Tinubu, can they actually deliver their states for him today?

And more importantly, what exactly will they tell their people Tinubu has done to deserve another vote?

Or are we now pretending Tinubu’s performance over the last three years won’t be a deciding factor in 2027?
The north has never voted based on performance. El rifai helped Tinubu during the primaries. If El rufai is so popular, he would deliver kaduna. Badaru delivered Gombe, Yari delivered zamfara, shettima Borno. What stopped El rufai?

Tinubu will split the NW and NE vote with Atiku?

You think this is still 2023?

Back then, Nasir El-Rufai and northern APC governors galvanized the NW and NE for Tinubu.

Mention one notable northern APC figure today who can mobilize those regions for him the same way.

You should read Deji Adeyanju’s submission on Tinubu’s current acceptability in the NW after his Sokoto visit
Did Deji travel around the whole sokoto? Is Atiku popular in the north? The north only listens to buhari and no one else. El rifai played no role, he couldn't even deliver his state. Most northern governors are in APC. The most notable politicians up north are in APC. In sokoto, we have Wamakko. In Kebbi, we have Adamu Aliero. In zamfara we have Yari, Sani Yerima with Tinubu. In Jigawa, Badaru and Lamido. In Kano, we have Ganduje, Barau, gov Abba kabir. In kaduna, we have Hunkuyi, Yero and Sambo. Which notable politicians is with Atiku

I mean that as far as there is plurality of candidates in the south, it's Tinubus headache. Gej makes it bang worse like a migraine.

Tinubu can't beat Atiku by a million votes in the NC. Neither can Tinubu amass as much as 500k votes in the southeast, how much more beating Atiku with that kind of chasm.

While you make your projections, always never fail to factor in the unpopularity of the incumbent, and the fact that he has no organic mass followership like a Buhari or an Obi.

Thank God you're following the ugly fallouts of the rancourous primaries of the APC across the country.
When ever there is a plurality of candidates, it has always favored the incumbent anywhere in the world. Look at 1964 polls, 1979,1983,2007,2023. Even at the Guber levels, Oyo 2015 had 6 strong candidates and Ajimobi was reelected. What of anambra 2010 and 2014?. An incumbent is usually unseated by a single strong or united opponent like what happened in 2015 or Oyo 2019. Gej entrance affects everybody. He will cut Tinubu votes in South and atiku own up north.

Buhari was deeply unpopular in 2019 but won. Tinubu was unpopular in 2023. None of the three major candidates are popular nationally but Tinubu has the spread just like Shagari. Again, Tinubu is from a homogeneous region where he can get bloc votes, Atiku is not from a homogeneous zone so getting bloc votes is hard. Tinubu is an incumbent, Atiku is not

Tinubu won Atiku by 700k in NC 2023. Getting 1 mil now will not be an issue with Muazu Aliyu, Saraki, Jang, suswam, Gana dumping atiku. It gets worse for Atiku with Gej entering. In reality Atiku cannot win Tinubu by more than 2 mil votes in NE/NW which can be cancelled by SW margins. My earlier prediction was best case scenario for Atiku. Buhari as an incumbent got 500k in SE with only one governor. Tinubu with all SE governors aligning with him with a fractured opposition should get more than that.

ADC even before primaries has a lot of rancour including Adamawa. Imagine Atiku losing key people like Binani and Abbo. Rancour in a large party as apc is common place but unlike the opposition APC will always find a way to settle everyone

The opposition doesn't always share from the same pool. In 2023, many APC members in the north voted for Atiku. In the north, it's widely believed this is Atikus time. Same thing will transpire in 2027.

Gej not contesting doesn't change much. Tinubu still has to contend with Obi in SS and Makinde in SW.

You have to come over to the north and guage the sentiments. Tinubu isn't popular. As it is now, can Tinubu confidently campaign on the streets of Ogbomosho and be received graciously?
In the south, opposition share from the same pool. While many buharists voted Atiku, many have gone to kwankwaso while others are with El rufai or back to their local masters like Wamakko, Yari etc.

You are contradicting yourself. You claimed Gej entrance will alter many things and now you are saying his non entrance won't change anything. It is a pointer to the fact that you know deep down that Atiku won't go anywhere... Even in the north, a lot of people don't believe in atiku. Kwankwaso vicing obi should tell you that so many northerners believe in zoning and will wait till 2031. You can feel the traction atiku had in 2023, but now people are weary. Atiku can never get the votes buhari got. While Atiku may gain votes up core north, he has lost more in the other parts of the country. Even buhari couldn't win with core north, how much more an unpopular Atiku?

What obi scores in SS is not relevant except Atiku gets 25%. Those that will vote obi won't vote Tinubu normally and vice versa. The contest is majorly Tinubu vs Atiku. Even if obi wins ss as far as tinubu beats Atiku heavily that is enough. Tinubu will beat atiku in 4 regions which will cancel out whatever Atiku will get in 2 regions. Using 2023 turnout and figures, let's say Tinubu beats Atiku by a million votes in SS, beats him by 2 mil in SW, beats him by a million in NC and by 500k in SE. That's 4.5 mil. Using buhari figures, highest Atiku can beat Tinubu in NW is 2.5 and 1.5 mil in NE. So you see Atiku will fall short. Gej tried to use 11 states to win in 2015 and failed

You seem to discountenance the fact that Tinubu is very unpopular, and is increasingly unpopular, not least in the north. He has haemorrhaged votes already. 2ndly, saying that Atiku will lose votes to Gej in the NC is oversimplistic. This is because both have divergent vote bases. Atiku, unlike before, now appeals more to the majority fanatic than the minority liberal Muslim, basically because he is seen as the consensus political leader in the north after Buhari. Is it the fanatics you expect would abandon Atiku and vote Gej? Let me put it this way. Gej hurts Tinubu in the south, but hurts Obi in the north because they both appeal to the non Muslim voters in the NC.

Atiku will floor Tinubu in the Nw and NE. The north will vote skirt and blouse.
All the opposition share from the same pool if you analyze 2015-2019 polls. Most of those who will vote Gej are those that would have voted obi and atiku. The opposition are simply sharing their votes. I can agree GEJ hurts Tinubu more in SS but will eat into Atiku votes in the north reducing the overall gaps....

The major reason why atiku isn't popular or rated up north is because he isn't a fanatic Muslim, is seen as a corrupt, liberal fellow. The fanatics have never supported him and won't start now. Only buhari can command such respect and votes. He appeals only to the liberal Muslims not the fanatics. Only people like kwankwaso and El rufai appeals to the fanatics. Atiku might be seen as a leader of the northern educated elites but not the talakawas.
Atiku can manage to win ne and NW ( minus Taraba, Borno, Kano, kaduna) but Tinubu will heavily beat him in the other four regions with unassailable margin, that is 27 vs 9. Let me even add that buhari margin of 2015-2019 was aided somewhat by rigging. Does Atiku have that capacity? Of course not. Even in Adamawa, he is surrounded. By the way Gej isn't conresting
PoliticsRe: Where Will Tinubu Gets His Votes If Jonathan Enters The Race by Akpakomiza2: 9:27am On May 19
Svoboda:
Not as simple as you've stated. The constitution recognises both highest votes scored and highest spread. Tinubu might get highest spread but certainly, not highest votes, all things being equal. If Atiku as the only northern contender, gets the highest votes in NW and NE, and gets something substantial in the north central, he is qualified for a run off. He isn't too daft to be banking on southern votes when the south is spoilt for choice.

On the other hand, Tinubu, a southern candidate, has to contend with two or three more southerners. Even a lot of SW voters will abstain rather than vote for him. It affects his total tally.

You've to ask yourself, why would an average northern Muslim want to vote a Tinubu when there's an Atiku? Even in the NC, Tinubu won't have it easy. The major occupation in the north is farming. A lot of them are disillusioned because they've been put out of business by Tinubus incoherent policies on agriculture, especially after seeing day light under Buhari.
With GEj contesting, Atiku won't get anything in north central. The tie breaker will be what Tinubu will get up north. Atiku won't get anything down south will Tinubu will get something substantial up north...
One thing you need to remember is that as far as tinubu gets the spread, he will get the highest votes also. Atiku doesn't have what it takes to pull bloc votes from ne NW

Tinubu won't have enough votes in the SS to make up for lost votes in the north should Gej contest. In the SW, if Makinde takes about 40% in Oyo, it would hurt Tinubu as well. Like I said before, in the event of a plurality of southern candidates, Atiku has the advantage with the nimbers as the only northern candidate. All things being equal, no single candidate can afford both highest number of votes and constitutional spread simultaneously. If it goes to a run off, we all know who wouldnt emerge victorious.
No, if Gej contests, he will only win Bayelsa by a clear margin. Him and Tinubu will share votes in the remaining 5 states followed by obi. Atiku will have less than 5%. This will hurt Atiku. Gej entrance will destroy Atiku chances of having 25% chances in all north central states. Gej is very popular in kaduna, parts of Kebbi, Jigawa. He will also eat atiku votes in Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe. So it might hurt Atiku more.
The more votes makinde gets in Oyo and SW, the lower Atiku votes. Those who will vote him are those that would have voted Atiku or obi. A divided opposition has always favored the incumbent
