Nuttella: Good evening all, please I have two questions to ask about spices. 1)Is black pepper same as Cameroon pepper?
2) Is Cayanee pepper same as this grinded red pepper they sell in the market?
3) What's so special about this paprika spice and oregano spice, oyibo love using it to cook in almost all their cooking videos I watch on Facebook.
Cc: cococandy etc. 1. Black pepper is totally different from Cameron pepper and African black pepper. Cameroon pepper is dried and grinded yellow pepper (ata) 2. No. They blend chilli not Cayane 3. Paprika is not hot. I think those oyibo people prefer it because they don't like pepperish food. Oregano is just a nice herb used for culinary purpose. I have the plant growing in my container garden |

BlueRayDick: All these students that don't have a dime, honestly this is not the thread you should be camping on.
Most of us also didn't have " a dime " as students, we can't brag about what we ate while in school, but we weathered the storm. It's a normal phase u will pass through in a developing country like Nigeria, but u are the one who will help yourself.
There is nothing wrong if as a student u enter a building site during the weekend to help them fill decking, lift blocks, mix concrete etc. If u are not really cut for tedious tasks like that , u can meet a local caterer who gets job often to assist in serving food and drinks for a fee at weekend parties. There are tons of other legal menial jobs u can do to keep body and soul together instead of expecting divine miracle/manna from nairaland food section.
If one begs for health/medical issues it is understandable that illness do wipe away people' life savings, but for food; u need to help urself by giving more value to the society so u can get rewarded for it. There's no miracle anywhere other than the one u orchestrate urself with ur own hands. Huncle Disckson, you just reminded me of my food pics back then in school. Growth is divine mehn. Also, I love the words "give more value to the society so you can get rewarded for it". The world itself is filled with problems, the only way we can make impact/money is solving these problems either directly or indirectly. However, our solutions are sometimes ignored or sent to the trash.....We will keep trying. One day, very soon, we will make global impact and cool cash to fend for ourselves and the society at large. Thank you. |

Kobojunkie: Not everyone works on a farm or in construction or manual labor self. These days, more and more people do work that instead require them to sit down all day, and so the waist continues to expand as they wolf down all those calories day after day.
Counting calories is stress when you haven't gotten a hang of it. It goes hand in hand with watching your portions. If I were, say, to rearrange furniture all day long, I will ofcourse load up so I don't faint half way through the day. But if I am spending the entire day in bed for instance, I know that the last thing I need is more food than my body can burn. You have a valid point. However, if I work from home, I will eat more. I like food, I can't deny this . |

Kobojunkie: Abeg, make we no joke with this at all. Burn wetin? We (most) do burn. I work on the farm and I burn and reburn all. Sometimes, eye day turn me as I mostly eat spaghetti. As for me, I don't have time for calorie counting. I eat whatever I love and can afford without any feeling of guilt. When i get money, I will hit the gym else just live like that. Calorie counting is enough stress already GboyegaD: Dinner:
Mashed potatoes with a side of broccoli, and well done steak.
Unfortunately, I couldn't eat more than half the steak. Seems I'm beginning to lose my penchant for eating meat. It's all good. Just send down to Naija |

Mariangeles: Nairaland is a great great platform for interacting and enjoying healthy conversations with people from different parts of the world. It is a community on its own. You enjoy nairaland better when you learn how to navigate your way through it.
A big shout out to all the random people who made me laugh. May your lives be filled with laughter come 2022. Amen.
These people especially made nairaland worthwhile for me, in no particular order:

Kobojunkie: I don't remember the last time I baked using butter. I use substitutes where possible, and oil is one such substitute for butter. You bake? When are you gonna post the pictures here?? Do you use butter or margarine. For us living in Nigeria, we mostly use margarine. Butter is super expensive. A 250g pack of butter (Ambassador/President butter) costs 1,500. While a 250g pack of margarine costs 300. You can see the difference. Also, I laff at people using Blue band butter to bake barag: Good evening everyone. Pls has anyone tried baking with oil instead of butter? I've seen several recipies but I'm not sure which kind of oil would be apt. Just wandering if the vegetable oil we get from the open market here can be used. Thanks I've baked bread and cakes (chocolate, carrot and sponge cakes) with oil several times and it came out well. For the bread, I used oil because I was out of margarine. You can use open market oil, just ensure it doesn't have any funny taste or smell. I've used local oil once, but most time, I used Golden Penny soy oil or power oil. Mariangeles: Absolutamente! Especially refrigerated cake.
I don't even know who came up with the term hot cake. True. Hot cake ain't even a thing. A month old cake taste divine. I learnt brushing the cake with rum or brandy weekly improves the taste, flavour and shelf life Beremx: Just finished baking this cake. My husband wants to eat the cake hot and I told him cake is better eaten when it’s cold.
Hope it looks nice? Well done dahgifted: whats the name of the fish? Croaker fish. The fish is expensive |

msld: Not complete yet. Since they are daily and regular usage tablets, syringes, getting them in bigger packs is cheaper and better than in retail form except insulin that comes in small bottle vials and requires constant refrigeration. Whenever I am buying insulin I only get a month worth at a time and pay at the pharmacy so she can take monthly when she needs because it has to be inside the fridge all the time. Okay.
