I'm only sad that indigenous Nigerian business men have not yet thought of cashing in on Nigeria's retail space and giving Shoprite a run for their money. Perhaps they are still learners!

Allah, if i be GEJ,i'll also impose a $10,000 bond to all UK visitors to Nigeria. That should keep their foolish UK university representatives, fake NGOs and BBC reporters off our shores

Politics / Re: Jonathan-Amaechi Face-Off: Patience Relocates To Port-Harcourt by Aksonman: 2:47pm On Jun 16, 2013
speeder: I know its so funny if I say I don't know yet the feud between Amaechi? Thats not the issue, the issue is in his name, Amaechi Rotimi? An Igbo in conjuncture a yoruba name and River state is neither a yoruba or an Igbo state. How come the mixture of names.

This man wise no be small.

The dominant ruling elite in Rivers state are the Ikweres.

Ikweres are pure Igbo people but during the Biafran war they denied their 'Igboness' in order to enjoy some form of amnestry from the federal forces. The Asaba people tried the same but after they were massacred by Nigerian (Hausa) soldiers, they quickly re-embraced their Igbo heritage-which remains strong till this day.

Before the civil war Port Harcourt was considered an Igbo town, most Igbos from the hinterland built permanent structures in PH. During the war many hinterland Igbos abandoned their PH properties and the Ikweres took over. After the war the Ikweres and other Rivers indigenes refused to return properties belonging to hinterland Igbos.

This is why Rivers State is cursed, many core Igbos are still skeptical about investing and owning permanent structures in Rivers state. With all its oil wealth,Rivers only has one major city that has still remained relatively stagnant. Uyo of yesterday is already catching up. Calabar has surpassed it in terms of visitors. All Port Harcourt has is aging Oil infrastructures. sad

When other PDP controlled cities like Uyo, Ilorin, Enugu, Kano, Kaduna, Onitsha and Aba are busy pursuing and attracting the likes of Shoprite and Walmart, this is what ACN is celebrating in 2013?

The south-west should just be grateful that Lagos was once Nigeria's federal capital all through an Oil boom era. If not,the skyline of Lagos would have been same as that of most Yoruba cities-dotted with rusted brown zinc rooftops.

Akshow: common shut up. Them de talk children of 80s and 90s de talk. There was once a time Nepa was not an issue at all.

With due respect,i think YOU should 'shut up', only a fool would say that Nigeria was better in the 80s and 90s-that despicable era of military rule were corpses could litter the streets of Lagos and stay for over a week b4 the useless military govt disposed them. I dreaded going to school each morning cos we were likely going to see a decomposing corpse on the road. Dont get me wrong, jane & john doe's still occur in today's Nigerian streets but hardly exceeds a couple of hours after being sighted(which is still not good enough).

The military era of the 80's and 90's killed the creative spirit of many Nigerian entertainers from the South. I remember then, only Nigeria's struggling private sector tried in sponsoring these southern entertainers while the Northern military government only prefered to use the likes of 'Dan Maraya Jos' for all govt sponsored event.

From 1999, President Obasanjo's singular move of inviting Alibaba to govt sponsored events was what turned Nigeria's comedy industry around. Today we have lots of millionare comedians.

Our 80s & 90s musicians lost faith in Nigeria, many left to pick up menial jobs abroad and now they are too ashamed to return home and see the massives successes recorded by todays entertainers-the Psquares, Tuface,Davidos, Ice prince, Tiwa Savage, Wizkid, Alibaba, Basket mouths, AY etc.

I do feel pity for the likes of Alex O, Alex Zitto, Funmi Adams, Perterside Ottong and a host of others. I raise my glasses to the likes of Ortis Wiliki, Sunny Ade, Ebenezer Obey, Fatai Rolling Dollars, Femi kuti, Yinka Davies and Charly- these guys persevered and are now reaping the fruits of Nigeria's entertaiment boom alongside the new comers.

Nigeria still has issues but as for entertainment, Nigeria is BY FAR better today than she was in Evi Edna Ogholi's era. We have the best entertainment industry in Africa.
ONLY A DUMMY WOULD THINK OTHERWISE.

Politics / Re: ActionAid - 80% Of Nigerians Not Living Above A-Dollar-A-Day by Aksonman: 11:49am On May 22, 2013
I stand by the NOI report which concludes that only 10% of Nigerians can be said to live on less than a dollar per day.
U all should know that most of these organizations that post horrible poverty rates in Nigeria only do so to attract more poverty alleviation aid and funding from international donors. And these moneys always fall back into their pockets. The poor Nigerians be they 10% or 80% still remain uncatered for.
That's the politics involved.
I wish Nairaland had first posted the NOI report before posting this one. It would have helped most 'champions of Nigerian poverty' on NL to understand better.

BAMILASSA: MAIN AIMS OF GEJ SOE ARE:

1. ENSURE CONTINUITY OF THE CONFLICT TO 2014/15 FOR HIM TO ACHIEVE HIS DIRTY AMBITIONS
2. ENSURE CONTINUITY OF THE CRISES TO GET AN AVENUE TO DESTROY ALL THE NORTH, THRU. MASS KILLINGS, ECONOMIC SABOTAGE,AND ISOLATION.
3. GRADUALLY, ACHIEVING MILITARY DOMINANCE BY THE IGBOS AND MIDDLE BELTANS, NOW FREE TO USE THE MILITARY AS A TOOL FOR BOTH POLITICAL AND CRIMINAL AGENDAS OF DIVIDING THE COUNTRY, AND AVENGING THE SO CALLED SS/ND MILITANTS SILENCING DURING THE OBJ/YAR ADUA ERAS.

TWO (2) GOOD THING AS WELL, MAY BE THE OUTCOME OF THIS SOE BLUNDER VIZ;

1. MILITARY TAKE OVER
2. POLITICAL SUICIDE BY GEJ GROUP, TRANSLATING TO CHEAP APC TAKE OVER

ANY OF THE ABOVE, WOULD MEAN THE BATTLE TAKEN BACK TO ND/BIAFRA DOOR STEPS!

LONG LIVE NIGERIA.

Bloody lunatic.
The Nigerian army changed forever in 1999 when newly elected President Obasanjo sacked all (Northern) military officers that had tasted political appointments.
If we still had the same 'Hausa dominated' military, there would have been a coup when Yaradua abscunded due to ill health-exactly what most core Northern leaders prayed for at that time.
Boko Haram is a Kanuri rebellion, most Hausa muslims have turned against BH,that's why in spite of horrible attacks in Kano, the people of Kano keep ratting out BH members-they even mobbed one recently.
Nigerian army of today is the most balanced and professional in the history of Nigeria. Though u cant rule out bad eggs.

During my primary 3 year in the 80s,i had this mad crush on my female class partner. I'd push my sit very close to hers and when our laps touched i would have this mad small pikin erection. And back then i didnt know how to 'manage' erections.
One day during class, my partner (i think) initiated a more close contact with me and my erection went haywire. Our class teacher now asked a question to the entire class, suddenly pointing at me to get up and answer. Immediately, i held my tummy and started crying claiming that i could not stand up and my tummy was hurting.
My teacher compassionately left me alone and told me to have a nap on my desk untill i felt better. I became the teachers pet through out that day.
I remained very close friends with this my female class partner ever since,we even attended the same university. She died last year- health issues.

Most of the filthy pictures posted here represents the state of mind of most Nigerian losers (home and abroad). These set of Nigerians rush to nairaland daily scouting for bad news about Nigeria so as to justify their mediocre existence.
They are like a large percentage of African Americans-when the rest of the world see America as a land of opportunities, the only thing some of these slave descendants see is white oppression, drugs, drive by shooting, and prison.
@Texas.cowgirl, i dont know why a transsexual gogo dancer like u should be putting this amount of energy in making Naija look bad.

Nigeria is evolving and will only get better for those who believe in her.

I have refused to recharge until i get to the bottom of this.
Fellow nairalanders, are u experiencing this too. Is this a ploy by MTN to trick unsuspecting subscribers into buying higher credit units?

Politics / Re: Tinubu Backs Amnesty For Boko Haram by Aksonman: 10:55am On Mar 21, 2013
Let all Nigerians know this:

The true intention of Boko Haram and their core Northern sponsors is to bring GEJ to the negotiating table where he agrees to drop his second term ambition and a Northern muslim takes over in 2015. Full stop.

Unfortunately,GEJ (through Obj) have realized that the existence of Boko Haram in the North is a blessing in disguise for his political ambitions. As the North remains divided- The Christian Northerners who constitute over 40% of the North's population will never vote for a core Northern muslim. In 2015,if GEJ gets block votes from the Christian middle-belt,South east,South-south and parts of the South-west,he wins.

The international powers led by the US and UK want Northerners to lead Nigeria because they see them as loyal while the more educated South are stubborn. The Petroleum Industry Bill and Local content law being pushed by Southern Nigeria is one of the numerous reasons they want a reversal of Nigeria's power structure in favour of the core North.

But the truth is that as it is now,the core North is suicidal, thanks to their leaders who just cannot mobilize majority of their citizens into embracing education and modernity.

God help us.

Politics / Tribalism At Lagos State Pensions by Aksonman: 11:05pm On Mar 06, 2013
Dear Nairlanders,
My aunty retired as a level 17 staff with lagos civil service in sept 2011. She is ibo-as i type this in March 2013 she is yet to collect her gratuity. In january 2013,she and some non-yoruba friends in same plight (out of frustration),went to Alausa and were made to part with 20k in order to hasten their gratuity processing...three months later,no gratuity or pension. According to my aunty, last february she discovered a shocking revelation-most of her Yoruba colleagues that retired during her tenure and even after have gotten their gratuity and pentions. Most of her friends that are yet to recieve their benefits since 2011 are non-yorubas.
I'm bringing this thread here in order to find out if there are nairalanders out there with older non-yoruba relatives going through the same plight in the hands of the Lagos state government.

source:http://www.informationng.com/2013/01/we-havent-banned-any-video-nbc.html

Contrary to widespread reports that the Nigerian Braodcast Commission (NBC), has placed a ban on music videos of some Nigerian artistes including P Square (Alingo), Wande Coal (Go Low), Timaya (Bum Bum), Flavour(Shake) for being ‘suggestive and provocative’ and D’Prince(Take Banana), Goldie(Ski Bobo), Chuddy K (Brazilian Hair) and Tillaman (Koma Roll) for featuring a minor with suggestive and immoral dance steps as well as containing er*tic and vulgar words, the NBC has denied banning them.
According to Mrs. Dorothy of NBC, “NBC doesn’t ban videos; we can only instruct them to remove it being aired. We didn’t ban any musical video as we speak.”

Business / Why Nigeria Really Needs Coins. by Aksonman: 11:09pm On Oct 27, 2012
I guess Nigeria needs coins for the sake of pure water grin

NIGERIA REALLY NEEDS ITS COINS.

Beyond the Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi’s five thousand naira note saga and coining of N5, N10, N20 and N50 notes; the case for more coins in our economy is still a valid one. Though that idea has for now been jettisoned, thanks to Presidential wisdom.

I am not an economist or anything but I worry about the mindset or intentions of our financial regulators. NIGERIA’S ECONOMY DOES NEED COINS but shouldn’t a serious CBN governor be at the fore front of aggressively trying to make Nigerians see wisdom in using our existing but under-utilized lower denomination N1 and N2 coins?

Here’s a Nigeria where a product like pure water sachet goes for say N5, but due to inflation it increases over night to N10, that’s a one hundred percent increase. Whereas, if the N1 and N2 coins enjoyed good circulation, Pure water could at least be increased to N6, N7 or N8, and its pricing would then be very competitive. Same goes for all other consumer products in Nigeria because as it is now, every price increment starts from a minimum N5 to N10 margin.

Is there any economist reading this? Please help me point out where I’ve missed it in this brief write-up. I am a humble learner.
