Nigerainsec website has shares outstanding for intercontinental at 18.9 million
don't know if this is before or after the supplemental listing though

don't like all the confusion these listings cause. it makes doing the maths tricky and uninformative

@ texazzpete

love the user name man, fantastic!! why does it sound familiar? i know where i know it from but i wont tell smiley smiley

about ur question, the bros have done a lot of work on this on previous pages and names like access, diamond bank, bank phb (IPO) AND fcmb public offer are but to name a few. Nig-german chem may be too high for now but good for long term. Unic insurance is fair at the current price i think.

i'm sure u'll get more responses on this though so keep reading.

love the name man!

@ roughcut

ah! i see ur point man.
as soon as i'm home in the evening i'll try to dig it up
but if i remeber correctly, the reason given for the sharp drop in theri share price was the split

as i said i'll look into it asap

InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by aktopgun(m): 1:36pm On Nov 27, 2007
i was just wondering, if we all agree that we are well into a bul run now, are we still expecting "a rebound" in the market in the 1st quarter of 2008 or have the bulls come early then?
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by aktopgun(m): 1:23pm On Nov 27, 2007
it was a reverse split of 4 for 1 unless i'm mistaken. so thier shares outstanding has risen but need to search for the numbers again but i'm not at home yet
will let u know once i have the figures again for sure
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by aktopgun(m): 1:04pm On Nov 27, 2007
@roughcut
u are right about the double top thing and it was beween 17th sep and 10th october but their share price was marked down for the split they did don't forget and fundamentally speaking it is a largely profitable company with room for growth and their own niche in the market (eastern nigeria i believe)

i thin they will do well medium and long term as long as profits improve nad remain good

thanks for the observation man
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by aktopgun(m): 12:37pm On Nov 27, 2007
anyone following cutix?

InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by aktopgun(m): 12:20pm On Nov 27, 2007
@damacheo

first bank is doing well but it may take a bit of a hit as xmas is round the corner and the certificates are now coming out soon enough for people to sell and have money for turkey and the grandma in the village

it remains to be seen how much of a hit this will be though (i don't expect it to be much given thier results and the continued possibility of the 10billion IIL money remaining up in th air)
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by aktopgun(m): 12:16pm On Nov 27, 2007
to allay ur fears fellas

Why First Bank's share certificates are delayed
( 23.11.07 )

Source: Punch

Investors who were successful in the last hybrid offer by First Bank of Nigeria Plc may start to receive their certificates as from next Wednesday, our correspondent has learnt.

First Bank had offered 1.624billion shares for public subscription at N33 per share and 1.499billion shares as Rights Issue to existing shareholders at N31 per share in May this year to raise N100bn from the capital market.

The offer, which was said to have been highly over subscribed, closed in June and investors have been waiting for their share certificates.

A source in the First Bank said, the delay in the issuance of the certificates was due to the large volume of subscribers? applications that needs to be processed.

The bank had on Thursday advised subscribers whose shares above 10,000 units were not allotted to contact their agents for their returned money warrants, without any mention of certificates of successful subscribers.

However, an official of Meristem Registrars, the company that handled the offer, told our correspondent on phone that the dispatch of the certificates would commence next week.

"Subscribers should contact the agents where they purchased the shares for their certificates as from Wednesday next week," he said.

@ibkn
u are welcome

costain is a turn around and looks to do well in '08/'09

i was waiting for something on them before buying the P.O and now i have it, all systems are go onthem but remeber to class themappropriately in ur portfolio as a turnaround and keep this in focus in terms of your expectations of them.

japaul looks like ti will do well, short and long term as well
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by aktopgun(m): 11:42am On Nov 27, 2007
why does everyone assume i was referring to fatherof2. he is a brilliant trader and has a system that works well for himwhich i respect totally.
i didnt mention any names in my post but it is interesting that everyone who has replied has assumed it was directed at fatherof2.

i still believe though that if you are going to use his stategy u have 2 options
1. get a hotline to him as every minute counts with his method (or almost every minute)
or
2. (preferred option i think) learn to trade by studying the methods by reading and studying and asking

i just think that the oxymoron of "short term investing" was getting to people's heads. its unfortunate that we hardly ever hear when people get burnt, only when they hit one do we hear and they then think that the methd is full proof.

history tells us from more established markets that methods and projections and extrapolations in any market may work for a time but in the long run, only the wise remain standing (thats me being "self righteous" again as someone said earlier.

We younger investors need to grasp the basics of any system we decide to use before throwing in hard earned cash fellas or we risk our families & children's futures not to talk of ourselves grin

@ NO SHAKING

THANKS FOR TE GOOD WORK MAN!

omo u are tooooo fast, e be like say u bin dey floor o!!

the results are good though i'm a bit wary of the exceptional item there, do u know what thats about

their share price has been inching upward since the 6th of november
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by aktopgun(m): 10:38am On Nov 27, 2007
for costain owners and the house in general, what say u all on this?

Costain West Africa Plc, on Friday announced a growth of 93 per cent in net profit for its half year ended September 30, 2007, even as the company intensified plans to revive its furniture and joinery subsidiary as part of the strategic move to broaden its revenue base and deliver returns to shareholders.

The construction firm announced a turnover of N1.5bn, up from N1.46bn, while net profit rose by 93 per cent from N67.64m in 2006 to N130.55m in 2007. Costain bounced back into profitability in 2006 after many years of losses.

The Managing Director of the company, Mr. Philip Wharton, has said that the revival of its furnishing business was central to the company’s growth plan for the next five years.

According to him, the planned injection of funds will be a boost in revamping the furnishing subsidiary, acquire new plant and equipment that will enhance the operational efficiency and service delivery of the group.

“We are in the process of getting final approvals to raise fresh funds from the capital market. Part of our growth and development plan in the next two to three years will be to resuscitate our furniture and joinery subsidiary. The subsidiary will be equipped with the latest technology to produce world-class furniture for the Nigerian and West African markets,” he said.

i believe the bull run on japaul may have commenced
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by aktopgun(m): 10:21am On Nov 27, 2007
I rest my case
as stated, enough said shocked

For 2008, me thinks C&I Leasing, Nig- german and REDstar are stocks to watch based on their numbers, sentiments and growth expectations

redstar did say they were going to do P.O soon after coming onto the market but i wonder if they'll just ride this bull run as far as they can go before goin on TS. IT WOULD DEFINITELY FAVOR THEM!
it would appaer they arent just a one hit wonder or having beginners's luck cuz their performances have been consistent ie profits and they are as listed currently the only coy in their sector meaning they really have free reign and no competition, for now anyway.
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by aktopgun(m): 8:52pm On Nov 26, 2007
i haven't said much in a little while but i've been following the trend closely on this thread and i am really worried speculators are becoming distracting and feeding the unfortunate hunger or should i say greed of young investors.
we are all here trying to share info and learn as much as possible to make informed decisions and take the proverbial "calculated risk" with our resouces.
i am always one for expressing your opinions freely but do not badger impressionable, less experienced investors into taking your advice or suggestions. put forward your arguments and reasons for thinking the way u do and let the other party make their own decisions.

this thread has and continues to be a wealth of information and learning. it is a real credit to all nigerians. lets keep it that way!

lets keep it clean, informative, productive and wealth producing as it has been in the last year (at least up till about 3 weeks ago anyway).

enough said,
lets talk money brothers.

anyone got any any insights into why firstbank is doing so well?
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by aktopgun(m): 11:55pm On Nov 23, 2007

@ololufemi

aiico's figures look good and they are reliable (as much as any ins coy can be)

it may be difficult to get on the floor now they are on TS but ur broker could always check.
my experience is that they just say its scarce, whatever that means!
