InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by aktopgun(m): 6:13pm On Nov 21, 2007
hang on a minute though, unless i'm missing something, this full PAT falls short of the projected PAT of 1.186 billion on nigeriansecurities.com website.
this PAT still gives them a trailing eps of 16.75 (using outstanding shares of 3,437,437,040,803)
At today's price of N5.18 this give a trailing PE OF 30.9!!

FELLAS, DO I HAVE MY MATHS WRONG OR RIGHT?

thanks for the observation about cashcraft pumping. they were (and have always been) the first to post results again today.
i just didnt think it was worth joining issues with my fellow investor on the matter yesterday cuz it really wasn't that important.

anyway, for all my fellow investors, i subscribe to the siddon look mantra for now.

never forget the golden rule in investing is buy low and sell high. (probably should be, buy as low as u can and sell as high as u can!).

we seem to have gotten it the other way round in all the frenzy i think.
For everyone who sells at their target high price, some other person is buying at an exorbitant price- the price paid for not doing proper research, not asking when u don't know, thinking u know when u actually don't, listening to uninformed brokers who make money regardless, , the list goes on

stay safe fellas and invest with passion, brains and skill!

@pumping

well done
i finally have someone who agrees with me on fidelity, at least for the long term
but then again, is there or should there be any other time frame in this kind of investments

as i said before fidelity is not bad
FCMBmay be better but fits the profile for shorter time investors (some people would say "speculators"). FCMB for me is yet to lose the "baba's bank tag"
that said, both offers have their strong points

well said pumping!

@pumping777

thanks man for the CSCS info

much appreciated.

i'll just give the new broker my clearing house number and have the 2 accounts under one CHN

i hope i understand it correctly
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by aktopgun(m): 10:30pm On Nov 16, 2007
cheesy
stunt, i like that word
the "stunt" as u call it is just really some calculated risks (if ther's any such thing) for end of 1st quarter next year

fellas,

bank phb, definite buy it seems from what i've read so far

any dissenting voices?

gurus, et vous?
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by aktopgun(m): 10:20pm On Nov 16, 2007

wouldn't that be messy?

how easy would it be to align both accounts then?

this is an open question to the house guys

can one have 2 brokers?

i have a CSCS account and i'm thinking of opening a more risque account with another broker with money i can afford to lose (yeah right wink)

is this possible anyone?
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by aktopgun(m): 5:45pm On Nov 16, 2007
@naijadr

personally i am a crusader

they are fundamentally sounder ie based on ratios

mbenfits comes in at least fifth after crusader, lawunion, aiico, unic (probably in that order for me)

so u a real doc or is it just a username then?
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by aktopgun(m): 5:26pm On Nov 16, 2007

InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by aktopgun(m): 4:42pm On Nov 16, 2007
not really got the stomch for privae placements yet

i like to see some transparency once a company is listed before i move in ( although wema didn't fit this bill)
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by aktopgun(m): 4:41pm On Nov 16, 2007
@easimoni

Fatherof2,
I'm a bit concerned with your strategy of making 25% gains in days/weeks based on rumours and jumping ship after you cross your magic number. Even for naija, where out-of-the-box thinking seems to work in the NSE, your "stick and move" startegy makes me nervous. If I'd jumped ship after making 25% on Wema (which I bough ~N4.3), how would I have ridden it to 14? The cost of transactions in the NSE are too high. You have to sell at 7% above your buy price just to break even. + research has shown that if you hold a stock for 12 months, 90% of your gains come in 3 to 5 5-7 day spurts. You miss those spurts, you don't make as much money as you should.

What if your rumours turn out to be false? Did you also know that those peddling rumours are often guilty of insider trading. If you KNOW that a bank is about to issue a bonus, the insider who told you is guilty of breaking the law. Sure, gist is often true, but I held 80% of my 'folio in Wema for most of 2007. I heard every gist imaginable, 90% of them fizzled out - nothing but noise. But one thing remained the same; the potential I saw for the 07/08 results.

Anyway, the goal is to find what works for you and stick to it. If sticking and moving works for you; it's all good but it won't work for most people.

Don't take offense and if you have gist, please share o (as long as you don't ask anyone to compromise themselves

i couldn't have put it any better man!

i wouldn't consider greed as a driving force, for me at least
it is a question of strategy and goals really wink
i already took up a substantial position in crusader 2 months ago
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by aktopgun(m): 2:34pm On Nov 16, 2007
@roughcut et al

insurance securities are doing great right now and i don't see why th etrend shouldn't continue into the new year really, as long as one buys on fundamentals and not RUMORS!!!. (sorry, couldn't resist that grin)

thurs or friday next week may be early for me though

any idea when crusader will release results, grapevine says dec,
what say u?
InvestmentRe: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by aktopgun(m): 10:43am On Nov 16, 2007
on insurance stocks, that sector is known not for capital appreciation really but rather for issuing bonuses mostly every other year or there abouts.
the money is made from these bonuses.
look at the most expensive stock in the sector ie wapco, its just over N7

buying in volume is best i think, unless they start to tow the line of their banking brothers and restructure before we start seeing any sort of real capital appreciation.

not sure if and when this wil happen though.

for those buying bagco, pls consider it a turnaround play if at all and be cautious in ur short term expectations. it would be worth seeing some performance first before investing. from the prospectus, most of the money is going into debt repayment for now so i guess the company must be pretty sure of its ability ot raise funds to run day to day business, or is it?

i personally prefer to but the goose (flour mills) than the egg(bagco)
