For me, the saddest thing about Lekki is that the military was invited in the first place, and that it responded the way it did. To do what exactly? 1. Scare the protesters away by their mere appearance? 2. Disperse them by shooting blank bullets? Both seemed to have worked. But at what cost to the image of our military and the psyche of the citizens? Lekki has been used to perpetuate the myth...actually, the reality...that the Nigerian soldier is to be feared by the people; not respected; not loved. I would rather be loved and respected than feared. I have stood in line at a grocery store in Augusta, Georgia (in the US) in uniform, and had two elderly women approached me and asked if they could give me a hug. Of course, I consented, and they both said as we hugged: "Thank you for your service to our country." I have been in a grocery store in Virginia and had a total stranger offer to pay for everything in my cart. I was once on a flight with my daughter from California to Toronto, Canada (in civilian clothes) when the crew asked for military officers to identify themselves. My daughter and I were upgraded from Economy cabin to Business. As we got up to transfer, our entire cabin erupted in hand claps and people were screaming: "Thank you for your service to our country." Anonymous people have sent waiters and waitresses to me in restaurants with the offer to foot my bill. They also sent their "Thank you for your service to our country" message. At Departure Halls in US airports, Service members (as US military members are referred to) are often called to board at the same time Business Class people are called. You don't even need to be in uniform. They believe you when you step out to board. Hotels and car rentals have "military discounts". There are even some big departmental stores, especially in "military cities" that offer "military discounts". There are banks that offer lower interests to Service members! I can go on and on. But I think you get the gist. American Service members are not destitute. They are well-paid. They do not need financial charities from people. The people just love and respect them. Why? Apart from the obvious fact that we serve to defend the nation, we are also not above the law. In fact, we are held more stringently accountable for infractions of civil laws. For instance, I could very well lose my commission and be dismissed from service ("dismiss" here means no benefits at all) for beating my wife! The police can arrest us just the same way they arrest civilians, although they will immediately hand you over to your Command where you'll be disciplined harsher and faster under the Uniformed Code of Military Justice (UCMJ). While in the US, (other than members of the National Guard) we do not carry loaded weapons outside military bases. In fact, when going from one base to another or to a firing range, live bullets are conveyed in a different vehicle than the one taking the soldiers. And guess what? Armed police are used to escort the soldiers and the ammo! NB: The National Guard mentioned above is an arm of the military that is placed under the state governor's command. The governor gets to call them out in times of crises...like protests that overwhelm the police or during natural disasters like floods, earthquakes etc. They are trained in crowd control and evacuation of large population. They carry live rounds when on such duties. I am familiar with the training that the Nigerian military undergo. Crowd control in cities is not included. They just...as we say here...wing it. The Nigerian military is rolled up into the security architecture of most Nigerian states...as it should. Every arms-bearing entity, including Civil Defense Corps, local hunters (and I dare say...armed AMOTEKUN) should be rolled into the security architecture of their respective states. But the governor SHOULD be the ONLY person authorized to deploy them for operations within his jurisdiction. He SHOULD be the one to issue their Rules of Engagement (ROE) for the specific crisis. And this arrangement should be made transparent to every Nigerian...that even within the states, elements of the military are subordinated to civilian authority...which is what we should have in a democracy. AT ANY TIME THAT YOU DEPLOY SOLDIERS, YOU ARM THEM WITH LIVE BULLETS; NOT BLANKS. What if someone in the crowd at Lekki was armed with an Uzi...with live bullets...and started firing at the soldiers once he realized they were shooting blanks? Blanks are used in training to teach steady aim, breathing and trigger control. They are also used in simulations. Lekki was no simulation. Neither was it training. It was the real thing. YOU DO NOT SEND SOLDIERS, ARMED WITH BLANKS OR LIVE, TO DISPERSE PEACEFUL PROTESTERS. The Nigerian soldier is already fighting and dying INSIDE Nigeria trying to protect the country's territorial integrity against non-state actors. He/she should no longer be fighting the "jackboot" image...the image of ruthlessness and cowardly attacks on unarmed, peaceful citizens. So that hopefully, Nigerians will begin to love and respect (NOT FEAR) them for their service to our country. |

Came back to twitter temporarily, scrolling my TL saw some tweets from youths claiming that this is a generation of app developers, drone flyers etc therefore the youths have earned a right to be at the table (government). I understand how badly our youths have fallen in love with weed. By the way, BUSINESSDAY claims Nigeria is the highest user of weed. I bet over 70% are by the youths because it must be a special brand of weed that will make anyone think that because you developed an app/drone, that automatically gives you right to leading a country. Before you people started doing PayStack, CowryWise, irokoTV etc, US, India, China etc had already blazed a long trail in technology & app development. But guess what? NONE OF THE SO CALLED DEVELOPERS OR TECHIES ARE RUNNING THESE COUNTRIES! Wait a sec! You think after protesting, setting the country ablaze you will then take over? You want to replicate, Sudan/Egypt/Tunisia etc here? I got news for you. Remember Alaa Salah, the Sudanese youth who stood & addressed crowd during Sudan's protest last year? Well, all she got was to be invited by the United Nations to read whatever she scribbled on a piece of paper. They clapped for her, promised her donor funds, scholarship and put her back in a plane back to Khartoum! What happened to Sudan after their protests? A Transitionary Military Council with some politicians took power and handed it to Abdalla Hamdok another politician who has been in the corridors of power for years! The council/committee that was constituted & took power didn't have a single youth in it and had just one female (they complained how women are left out and yet they were left out yet again!). You think you can take power by hashtags, threads/threats on social media/fake news, apps, protests etc? All you do with those things is to destabilize the political space & in the end it still only favours either those already in power, those displaced from power, those at the corridors of power wanting to go in, and a few crafty people they used to cause the unrest who get settled with cash, positions etc. Kiki Mordi and Aisha Yesufu are just copycats of Alaa Salah; They will set up CSOs/NGOs, that’s if they don't already have. Donor funds will trickle in, they will be called on TV & Radio to speak & maybe the UN/their agencies. Amnesty Nigeria will use them to further their agenda but IT ENDS THERE! They will never be in power same way Yele Sowore, Moghalu Kingsley & Oby Ezekwesili etc will never have power! It isn't because the system is rigged against them, it is because they have rigged themselves against the system! How does one rig him/herself against the system? It's by mistaking social media validation as real life political currency! The youths who are demanding power, how many belong to political parties? How many have visited their villages except for maybe Christmas/Sallah holidays? How many of you can call, at least, 100 people in your community & they will come answer the call without financial inducement? We have lots of schools in our respective communities attended by the very poor amongst us, how many have we helped with painting their classrooms, paying fees, donating chairs & tables? We have run down medical facilities in our villages, how many times have we helped organise free medical outreach for those very poor ones in our hometowns? You ask the significance? So you do not realise that all politics is local & not social media? You want to run for president and 90% of the people who know you are your followers on social media & somehow you think you will win the election? Let's ask those who have tried; Can Yele Sowore win local government chairman of his ward? But after smoking weed & doing SaharaReporters blog you wake up thinking you can be president over 300 million crazy NIGERIANS? Yes, I am one of the crazies! Oby Ezekwesili might be the only one with the solution to fix Nigeria but the question is, can she win governorship election in her state? Even after being a two-time minister, World Bank Executive & every other thing, how many people know her in Kano & Bornu? You wonder how relevant it is? Then go check the population of those states & tell me how you intend to be president if you can't court their votes! So if you think you can become leaders by your activities on social media, apps you develop etc. we know your handles, who knows you in your community? We have downloaded your app, we know your app but WHO ARE YOU? If you think you can be President or lead with protests, know that when the dust settles down it is the military & THE SAME POLITICIANS THAT WILL CALL THE SHOTS! If you do not go back, rethink, re-strategise, get involved in politics, the sun will set on the oldies you hate so much & rise ON THEIR CHILDREN who they have strategically positioned while you remain an online influencer/soro soke/app developer & agent of destruction |

In the NE especially Bornu & Yobe, the number of NGO representatives on ground are either equal to the number IDPs or more. In some parts of Maiduguri town, I think I am in ABA, a lot of my people loading trucks with indomie, rice, pampers etc. They hustle security operatives to give them escorts so they can enter into risky areas to donate stuff to displaced people. All of them are armed with cameras or use their cellphones to take pictures. Once in a while they give cash or items to security operatives & you thank them for their kindness. What many people see as people being kind & going an extra mile with great risks to themselves turns out to be a HUGE SCAM. Although not all are scams but 99% of NGOs operating in Nigeria are scams. Let me tell you a story about Somto (not real name). Somto was based in South Africa with his south African wife until he fell on hard times. Not being able to provide for his family led from one domestic issue to another until his wife eventually divorced him & threw him out of the house. Broke with nowhere to go, he kept moving from one friends house to another until he got frustrated& decided to return to Nigeria. Somto spent a few months sleeping in the living room of his friends apartment at wuse zone 6 Abuja (a two bedroom with 5 grown men) until they came up with an idea. One of them being a lawyer helped them in registering an NGO. Next move was setup a website & a bank account (domiciliary (FX) & regular checking account). Then two of them set off on a trip to Maiduguri. Armed with camera's, they took pictures with IDPs, made videos of poor toilet facilities etc. They desperately pleaded with a senior army officer to help them get to chibok where they concentrated more on taking pictures of churches & discussing with the people how it was difficult to go to church. It never crossed the mind of the soldiers that these men had a plan, an elaborate scam. After spending 9 days in Bornu, they eventually returned to Abuja. Then they put the next phase of their scam into motion. They uploaded pictures & videos on their website. They setup social media accounts where they uploaded pics/video daily. Then they started scouring the net for churches in Europe & the US who had social media handles & emails. They kept bombing them with messages & pictures. One day they got a message from an old Italian woman who said she was too frail to travel but her son would come visit Nigeria to see things for himself. They picked him up at Nnamdi Azikiwe airport, checked him into an hotel. After a few days they flew to Bornu. After visiting the IDPs, the Italian went back home. Few days later he & his mum sent the sum of 5,000 euro in 2 tranches by money Gram with a promise of more to come. Somto & crew swung into action, they loaded a truck with Indomie, rice, some old cloths but instead of going to Bornu, they went to the IDP at Kuchingoro Abuja where they took pictures distributing the materials to the IDPs. They went as far as singling out two orphans who they dressed properly, made them take a picture holding cardboard signs that read 'grazie mamma Carina e zio Piero (thank you mama Carina & uncle piero)'. BOOM! The donations started flowing in from Italy non-stop! Mama Carina was so proud she took the pictures to church & everywhere she went to showing off how she was affecting the lives of Christians being persecuted in Nigeria. Her church started a weekly contribution which they sent through her to Somtos NGO! Her son Piero & his wife own a vineyard, so they processed & sold Italian wine. After his visit, they made sure 10% of all their sales found its way to Somto! Thousands of Euros & all Somto & his crew did was buy a few cartons of Indomie, pampers, pads etc and took pictures to smoothen 'their job'. Diversification they say helps businesses grow, so they diversified. Next branch, Kaduna! They would wait for news on attacks in Southern Kaduna, find hospitals where they go take pictures with victims, go to locations of attacks take pictures and then include newspaper links. All these they send to potential 'mugus'. On their website they upload pictures where they claim the plan is to wipe out the entire Christians in Northern Nigeria, they even say how they are being hunted by law enforcement for exposing the genocide. They find handles of foreign celebrities, Politicians etc who they send all these too. Money keeps coming from different parts of the world; $500 here, €2,000 there, $17,000 there & now Somto drives a brand new Prado with a duplex he bought in life camp. He also owns two houses in Lekki phase 2 he put out on rent. All these he acquired within less than 2 years. There are many Somtos on social media! 99% of our NGOs are nothing but scams & avenues to launder cash. |

O mankind, worship your Lord, who created you and those before you, that you may become righteous - and Al-Baqara How can you disbelieve in Allah when you were lifeless and He brought you to life; then He will cause you to die, then He will bring you [back] to life, and then to Him you will be returned. Mr Frank Tietie, an Abuja based lawyer and Human Rights activist, says the newly amended Company and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) poses no threat to religious freedom. Tietie spoke in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja. Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari signed CAMA into law on Aug. 7, to facilitate the ease of doing business in the country. But a part of the law, particularly section 839, was not acceptable to some religious organisations. Although it was not compulsory to register religious bodies in Nigeria, the activist said that CAMA still provided an advantage in the areas of corporate personality and perpetual succession. “Any group of persons, either Muslims, Christians, or traditionalists that I am familiar with, can operate legally without having to register with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). “That is a fundamental right of every Nigerian, which has the force of law that is fundamental to the existence of the country itself. “However, the law provides for the optional, twin benefits of corporate personality and perpetual succession to any group who so wish, only on the condition of registration with CAC,’’ he said. The activist noted that any group of persons, who decided to be registered, means such a group has submitted itself to be regulated by the law applicable to corporates bodies. According to Tietie, groups cannot continue to claim the twin benefits of registration and reject the corresponding responsibilities to such benefits. He said that many people, including institutional donors, would not give money to an organisation, whether a mosque or church if they knew such an organisation was owned by one man who laid personal claim to all the property of the group. He also said that no persons would support religious organisation that doesn’t have a clear-cut succession plan. “Many members of such organisation often grumble when its leadership is passed onto either the wife, son or daughter of the founder, upon his death. “Any group of persons that holds out itself to be registered, either as a church or mosque, must operate according to the minimum standards of transparency, accountability and predictability in the management of its property, particularly financial resources. “There have been recent cries against some of the provisions of the new CAMA, which many claims, are meant to detract from religious freedom. That cannot be correct.’’ Tietie said that the controversial provision of Section 839 of CAMA, which enabled CAC to suspend trustees on certain conditions and in conjunction with the court, appointed interim managers for the association and deals. The legal practitioner said that the deals were mainly with the property of such an organisation. ADVERTISEMENT “Property is at the heart of the matter, not religious freedom. “A good example is the application of the said provision is the recent suspension of the trustees of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministry in the UK, for failing to file its financial reports on time. “The UK authorities reasonably do not have to appoint a Sheikh or Mullah to superintendent over the church. “Only persons with knowledge in such areas as accounting, management, and administration were likely appointed. “CAC has always enjoyed such wide discretionary powers in the repeal law that it can transfer the property of one defunct organisation to another that it considers having similar objects,’’ the lawyer said. He said that there has been clearly, a regime of abuse in the management of the property of religious organisations in Nigeria and called for a serious understanding of the CAMA law. He added that the requirements for transparency in the Not- for- Profit sector as contained in the new CAMA are not strange to Nigeria’s legal environment. |
You have churches overseas where you fly in your private jets to preach. In those nations, you obey their laws. You never rose against the laws that regulate your spendings. When you flout the rules, they even appoint a small pikin who doesn't believe in your God to oversea your collections and spendings, you did not object. You didn't say those nations are fighting God. But now in Nigeria, where the new CAMA is trying to bring civilisation and probity to money that you collect from the people, you said it is a law against God.. which God are you talking about? Is the God in US and UK where you and your churches obey laws and where your spendings are regulated different from the God in Nigeria? Nigerian churches engage in businesses to make profit and yet will not pay tax because they hide under church. But they make profit? Don't be decieved. The Church that is the bride of Jesus, that Jesus is coming for are not those incorporated institutions but you and me. If you incorporated your institution, whether it is a church or not, the government that issued you certificate of incorporation has rule over you. If you don't obey, you are not following Christ. If you don't want government to regulate you...operate like Jesus and the Apostles after Him. 1. Don't do any incorporation.. in other words, remove the name and logo. 2. Don't own assets. Distribute all your money to your members. 3. Don't operate a bank account. Distribute the money you collect among the members and go empty. There's nothing to fight in the new CAMA. It is meant to stop churches being operated as business centers... Nobody can fight against the CHURCH of God. Your conscience is what is fighting you. over to you |
Daft reasoning.....those xtians don't you have lawyers among you? You registered your BUSINESS CENTER(sic) under CAMA law and you are claiming govt did not POWER to regulate your activities? who kom be mumu..... You are comparing yourself with muslims and mosques ,pls how many imams have private jets, large auditoriums, private schools and foreign coys? more so if any mosque or imams started anything funny like that he will be subjected to same law as well (Modify) (Quote) (Report) (Share) |
