I decide to put this together because of the lingering controversy on separation of power and the incessant abuse of our constitution by the politicians and the consequential effect on the masses especially the youths. It saddens me whenever I read or listen to blind arguments from a supposedly "educated" youths and adults. By this write-up, I'm hoping I'll be able to correct some trending controversies and also encourage many to read wide to be able to contribute intellectually while discussing national issues. First, I'll define the term constitution in simple terms and the role of all the arms of government. 1. The Constitution of Nigeria is the supreme law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Nigeria has had a series of constitutions. The current constitution was enacted on 29 May 1999, inaugurating the Nigerian Fourth Republic. 2. The Legislative arm makes our laws. Laws are discussed, drafted and enacted by the Legislators. At the national level, together, the two houses (Lower and upper) have various important powers. NA passes legislation, debate on and approves budgets, impeaches federal officials, approves presidential nominations and appointments to federal positions. Please note that all there powers starts and ends with the constitution. 3. The Executive arm is responsible for implementing and administering the public policy enacted and funded by the legislative branch. Simply put, they are charged with the responsibility of implementing the laws or tenants of the constitution. Under the executive, we have all the security forces and all ministries and parastatals. 4. The judiciary arm is responsible for interpreting the constitution and laws and applying their interpretations to controversies brought before it. 5. The term "separation of powers” simply means these three powers as defined above must be separate and acting independently. Separation of powers in this case, therefore, refers to the division of government responsibilities into distinct three branches to limit any one branch from exercising the core functions of another. The intent is to prevent the concentration of power and provide for checks and balances. Check the attached pictures. Haven defined all the basics, I must emphasize here that all these arms are guided by the SUPREME LAWS (The Constitution). Their duties, powers, and limits are spelled out by the constitution and anything done outside the dictate of the constitution is ILLEGAL and termed unconstitutional. . . . . . . . . I'll be back for more.

What a shallow and biased analysis! Yes it is worrisome that thugs could gain access to the NA and stole the symbol of authority but the picture you painted as to the reason behind it is just too biased and can't be true. Granted, they just started an investigation into a case with the executive but we all know this isn't the first or second face off cases btw the executive and the legislators. The invited minister will probably not show up as usual or she'll just send a permanent Secretary and that'll be the end of the case. Secondly, you're clearly biased for not mentioning the dictatorship approach by the leaders and handlers of the Senate. Btw the executive and the Senate, I can't really say who defiled court order/pronoucement or the contitution more. What can be worse than taking away the freedom of speech from senators who are expected to be a voice for the people? Buhari may have failed on so many ground but we should never be blinded by here to such an extent as you're portaying. The Senate leadership you seems to be supporting are not in anyway better. |
Olalan:Same thought as mine. |
So what should we do? I don't blame him at all, i blame the mods that always push senseless and useless threads like this to fp at the expense of educative and interesting topics. |
Come back here ooo... You must finish what you started tonight. Kai see the way I was lmao all alone in the room |
cloud9usher:This is just straight from my heart....kudos bro. Just that I can't say you make a mistake by getting her a phone and will never support you collecting it back. It just shows she seems to lack the basic sense/wisdom a good lady should posses and it's your decision now to make after having that knowledge of the type of human she is. That is if your story is a true representation of what's going on oh |
... |
wow...that's better by far far University for you. Always setting the standard for others! |
That is the definition of integrity. GOD bless the man. |
Congrats bro. HML in advance. God bless your HOME |
Nice one..we need more of this bold decision for every non performance individuals in the system even in the political space |
See our senators fighting over oil...not even the land or the people of those communities. Shows our leaders at all level are only playing lip service to "diversification". I wonder what'll happen when the oil wells dried up. |
I just cannot relate with all these babarism. In as much as I hate evil of all shades, it is just so bad to react this way without strong evidence...even with evidence, this is not still the solution. Mind you, using physical to fight spiritual is an invitation to more evil spiritual forces. |
Thanks for this update...don't mind those lazy bloggers who have no respect for humanity. They even quote the number of sniper he drank ![]() Lalasticlala pls come and do the needful. |
it saddens me to see almost everybody up there supporting the Senate not minding the illegality of their action. Why do we as Nigerians just hate the truth when it is unfavourable to us? Senate rules and acts didn't in any way superceed the constitution. the constitution still remains the grand num not minding our emotions. The constitution never gives power to the Senate to suspend any member for any reason. Only through a recall process can a member of the Senate be removed. This senate gives little or no regard for the same laws they are elected to protect/enact and their shallowness on matters of the constitution is just so annoying. Even this election-reordering bruhaha still borders on the same shallow misinterpretation of the Law; why will you amend an act of the electoral act without recourse to the disagreement of same in the constitution. If they need to really reorder the election, they must change the constitution that gives absolute power to the electoral umpire to dictate when and how the election should be run....that way, they'll succeed in making them "dependent" If this re-ordering of election is not properly settled by the supreme court and they succeed in having their way, I forsee legal tumor arising from the lacunas they're about creating. |
Why quoting the number of sniper he took for the suicide as if to prescribe required dose for those aspiring to conmit suicide.......You go fear poor reporting now; no thanks to poor usage of social media in reportage. Suicide is an act of cowardice I keep insisting; everybody have thier own problem...some are passing throgh far more difficult challenges than those taking thier lives daily. |
I don't even know what to comment on this report. very difficult to believe! |
Bashir El-rufai, son of Kaduna State Governor is not new at taking shots at people... be it Obasanjo or Reno Omokri. The New York Times yesterday tweeted a controversial headline following President Buhari's announcement of his re-election bid. Reacting to the headline, Bashir, reminded the publication that America is far from perfect. "The President in your country, was on tape bragging about grabbing women by the P**** and eats Big Macs all day, and is a fully open racist and misogynist will run again in 2020 and win too, but hey, it's the New York Times"https://mobile.twitter.com/BashirElRufai/status/983434916829515777

What nonsense! For the fact that most of these governors practically control their various assemblies, it is just unacceptable that some haven't signed the budget to law as at today. |
seunmsg:Wow...correct guy. You analyse like Uncle Jide of TVC |
Hmmm.....this lattest trend of women attacking men is getting out of hand. Anger issue everywhere |
Moreover she has no inheritance in my culture. The whole thing has been willed to me.Greedy man; useless culture! She's your sister and no matter what that your culture says, she shouldn't be treated like an outsider until she's at least established in her husband's house. There is alot that's just too wrong with African cultures. That is not to say I'm supporting her indecisive attitude. |
I'll be very suprised if ffk didn't comment about this looters list issue and will be more amazed if nobody mention Ameachi while this trends. PDP or APC or SDP or whatever aren't any different and I'll always say we as the masses get what we ask for. They'll keep looting our common treasury and play ethnic and reigious card on us to keep us busy and every election period, they'll bring out some of those loots to buy votes and "4years-destiny"....then the cycle continue again. Most pple defending those on the list today know very well and of a truth that those charlatans are indeed thieves but because of few coins, they're singing a different song. As for Ameachi, I keep wondering why the almighty Wike haven't charged him to court for those wheathy allegations from him and PDP. He isn't immune anymore, so what's all the noise all about when you refused to make him pay for his alleged offenses through the court of law. That is what I'll love to see. |
Bravo...it is better late than never. I may disagree with alot of his polices and methods in dealing with challenges but this one is right on point. Our political Parties must change for once and provide internal democracy needed for stability and ideology formulations. Nigerian politicians are just too greedy for power baba! |
akaahs:You obviously didn't read through my post before quoting me. |
Why are you here asking nairalanders that is full is atheists and semi-atheist who are bench warmers in churches. How many people here do you think really understand or believe in been "called" to ministry by God? I dont doubt people when they say they're called just like you're claiming but I'll always ask if they're very sure the call is indeed from God and to do what? For example, God can call you into ministry right in that same church that you're together with your wife and He can call you for a specific purpose that has nothing to do with you leaving your church in any way....at the same time the call can also be to separate yourself for a different ministry-"called out"...so the question is are you sure He called you and if He did called you, He'll never leave you confused, He'll give the direction to go. As for your wife, tell the God who call you or rather report her to God who called you. God cannot call you and not make provision for her; He know how to perfect it....meanwhile, note that divorce can never be His solution. |
Canavaro2077:I salute this man for standing for the truth and refusing to play the normal politics of bitterness common in Nigeria where it just become a win to praise an opposition party for doing anything right. Instead of praising, they'll castigate and spread propaganda to discredit good intentions and records from an opposition party. We need more of you sir. HOW GOD bless you! |
KingOfAmebo: ![]() Thanks my guy. |
DonMekino:I don't even know what you're talking about. Let me assume you're on a wrong thread. |
KingOfAmebo:you are obviously ignorant of what you're talking about but before you reply me, try and do a little research online as to wheater govts all over the world do or don't negotiate with terrorists. Thanks. |
bakaredc:Thanks for this...say no more bro. |
faheez:I have questions too and i'm more worried than you are but while we ask our questions and air our worries and complains, we should be fair, just and truthful with it. sentiments and bigotry is the genesis of our many problems in this country. everything, we want to read sentiment to it no matter how insensitive it is. Some people are suffering and are being killed daily and all some could do is to keep calling it a scam and reading unnecessary sentiments to it. Do you know if the govt of the day have treated this bokoharam issue with all seriousness it demands, it wouldn't have lasted up to a year? No, they didn't but rather call it a scam and decor for election purpose and lives are wasted daily. for me, I'm happy they are back and the credit goes to the fg; tomorrow, you may come across my post blasting the same fg on another issue. |
