Politics / Re: Peter Obi: Much Ado About Funding From Diasporans by Alezy(m): 6:18am On Sep 05, 2022
Obinoscopy:
So what's currently trending in the political sphere is the diasporan funding for Peter Obi and it being against the electoral act (section 85, subsection a and b).

Prior to now, it has never been an issue as Nigerian politicians source their funds majorly from other means. Some through illegal diversion of State funds while others through funding from the oligarchs and super wealthy who have vested interests in the government. The money politicians get from Nigerians in the diapora has been very meagre. Perhaps that explains why it never trended in the past. But with the emergence of Peter Obi, the story has changed as it would seem the Diasporans are ready to bankroll the Peter Obi campaign immensely.

Now the issue is that the electoral act is against funding political parties from abroad. So what that means is that the Labor Party are not meant to collect any money from anyone abroad. Any money collected will be forfeited and the party fined. Now what is the Labor Party's plan in regards ensuring they don't break this law.

I just watched the interview Prof Pat Utomi granted to Seun of Channels TV and I was surprised at Prof's response to this law. He was literally calling that law bluff. Based on his response, it would seem the plan of the Labor Party is to go ahead and collect monies from abroad and use it to fund their campaigns. That is very dangerous.

I must state it here that I share Prof Utomi's sentiment in regards to the funding as a way Nigerians can take back their country. I also agree that the law is a clog in the wheel of Nigerians in the diaspora who want to take back their country from the rich corrupt politicians. But I don't think it's wise to call the law bluff. This is because the law has constitutional backing. Section 225 (3) (a) and (b) of the constitution was very clear about funding from abroad. Going against the constitution is wrong as the courts will never support you.

So my advice to the Labor Party is that they assemble their legal team to study the law and seek for ways to raise funds without contravening the law. Perhaps one way, would be for an NGO or body that has no financial ties with the Labor Party be the one to champion the collection and disbursement of these Diasporan funds.

Now let's even look at the law and the purpose/intent of it. I think the reason behind the law is noble.....to prevent foreign influence on our country. A sovereign country can only remain sovereign if they are not influenced by any foreign country. I 100% agree with that. But I think that law was coined wrongly. Nigerians in diapora are not "foreigners". They are Nigerians. So even though they are abroad, they should be able to be contribute towards the growth of their country in every way possible. The law should be tweeked to prevent donations from foreigners/foreign countries and not prevent donations from Nigerian in diaspora.

Will the Labor Party call the law bluff? Will the constitution be amended? Will the Labor Party look for other ways to raise funds? Let's see how events unfold.

Politics / Re: Let's Cut Tinubu Some Slack On Irrelevancies by Alezy(m): 11:06pm On Sep 01, 2022
Obinoscopy:
Disclaimer: I don't support Tinubu's Presidential Bid.

I have noticed the numerous attacks on Tinubu. While some are valid, there are many that are just false and biased.

First is his health. They say his "hand dey shake" and that he pees his pants. They say he can't walk unless he is being held by the hand. But that's not true. I've seen numerous recent videos of him walking by himself and his hands were steady. Nobody, and I repeat, nobody is 100% healthy. So I think its wrong for anyone to brand him unhealthy. He appears healthy to me. Is he healthy enough to be able to juggle the stress of Nigerian presidency, I don't know (maybe he isn't) . But going by the Nigerian constitution, he's fit.

Second is his academic qualifications. I've heard him talk and he seems very academically sound. Even though his primary and secondary schooling appears to be an unsolved mystery, the fact remains that he is academically sound. Also his postgraduate degree seem to be verifiable. Attacking Tinubu's primary school is like attacking a Professor's primary school. So, let's all drop this primary school attacks. He is an almamater of a prestigious university and he is academically sound.

Which leads me to the attacks on the things he said in public. I think Tinubu is a deep thinker and speaks almost in parables/proverbs. So sometimes, it would seem what he is saying is unintelligible. But the reverse is the case. When he was talking about Corn and Agbado, he was simply referring to Agricultural Self Sustainability. When he talked about tongues from the Bible, he was referring to the Babylonian Tower where God made everyone speak in different tongues which is now responsible for human cultural/language diversity (Genesis 11:1 - 9).

So let's cut this man some slack on irrelevant things and attack him on issue based concerns. We should attack him on his policies, on his financial dealings, on his gubernatorial achievements/failures, etc
I don't need to read it. I already know you support Tinubu

Wike has come again with his normal cheap political value expression.

What can a PDP governor from the South South brag about political value?

APC has it's stronghold in the North while PDP has it's stronghold in the South South.

Does he truly expect Sule Lamido to defeat APC in a Core North Western state like Jigawa?

Or perhaps Wike should defect to APC and let us see what remains of that his political value that he brags about so readily.
if you are wise, you will know jigawa was a PDP state before Lamido sold out during Buharis election in 2015. Now imagine that kinda man staying trash about someone who if not for him, PDP should be totally dead by now

Faiththatworks:
I'm sure this data was gathered from the Biafran bureau of stastics,Haba this is a very childish representation of what 2023 polls will look like.
How will Peter Obi win any state in the South-south and 2 states in the North Central, that's a terrible fallacy.
Peter Obi will not win the election of 2023,I daresay he won't even come 3rd,if he's able to get up to 2 million votes around Nigeria then he tried.
Delta will be a straight fight between Okowa,Ibori and Omo-Agege,with PDP pulling off a victory,Edo will witness another battle between Oshiomole and Obaseki,I'm sure the margins between both parties will be small with Peter Obi playing the spoiler.
Akwa Ibom,Cross river and Bayelsa will be very tight also, but Peter Obi will play the spoiler again and reduce whatever large difference Atiku will give Asiwaju.
Rivers is not too certain,if Wike continues with his tantrums until the day of election, then It will be too close to call between APC and PDP, remember APC haven't had an elected aspirant in Rivers in 4 yrs,I'm sure it will be very bitter in Rivers this time around, again Obi will be the spoiler for PDP.
It will be a total decimation for Obi in the North-west and North-East,I expect a fierce battle between Atiku and Kwankwanso in the North-west,with Asiwaju playing catch-up,while Atiku and Shettima will battle out the North-East,I see Atiku winning that zone but with little Margin.
The North Central will be a battle between Atiku and Asiwaju,I expect it to be very close with Asiwaju winning kwara, kogi and Nassarawa, while Atiku will take Niger, Taraba,Benue.
Plateau will be too close to call.
I have left the south west and south east out of it because Asiwaju will win the south west, and Obi will win the South-east but the PDP will.be very close in both region.
Seriously Asiwaju will only win this election if he's able to stay very very close to whatever Numbers Atiku and Kwankwanso pull out from the North-west and North-East.
As for Obi,he will just end up spoiling whatever Numbers Atiku should have pulled to win the Election.
I daresay if u add up Obi numbers and Atiku numbers in 2023,it would have been enough to make Atiku the president of Nigeria.
That's a prophecy.
God bless Nigeria.
You are sleeping on a bike

Who locked SS and NC for LP. Don't compare Osun Election with Nigeria's Election. Gaskiya we all know that Oyetola was rigged in with remote control. Now the people just gave him a straight red. He was never a popular candidate so he can't command any followership. To win elections, you need structures in place. It will shock you to know that NNPP has a superb structure when compared to Labour Party. Obi is a good man, i don't know his antecedents, but if he doesn't have a solid structure, things will get rough for him. He should work on alliances and make compromises.
That devilish thing called Structure is why Nigeria is where it is today. People now vote party due to structure than competence.

PO doesn't need that structure please. He just need to sensitise more Nigerians on the need to vote for him.

And when he said SS is locked down for LP, it doesn't mean some people won't vote another party but I don't see anywhere in the SS where any other party will get votes more than LP right now. Maybe Akwa ibom (just maybe)

No office in nearly the whole of the country, and no governorship candidates, meaning no structure to energize, mobilize the voters, and get them to the polling stations.

What've digital banks got to do with party office? Will the voters vote digitally or online electronically? Do they all have internet access to receive campaign and election information from the party?

You people just don't take anything seriously, you just come up with empty and ridiculous platitudes that makes no sense, no strategy or any serious thinking, just empty talk.

you really think he is such a fool not 5o think about that? You think he isn't working to put that in place? Structure matters in election but humans/people put those structure in place by building.
