Obiagu1: @ eku_bear, clever boy lol.
Now you dropped Igbo population in Lagos to 20%. Good. If Yoruba population in Kwara is 85%, then Kwara is a Yoruba state and there won't be this clamour for Oya State (Yoruba speakers in Kwara and Kogi). Really clever from you i know, he is very smart kwara amd kogi is just a way of yorubas have political relevance in the north just like itsekiri in delta igbos do this as well in the case of benue and delta state northerners do this as well it all the struggle to maintain power,.,., smh |

Cue: Sorry Alhaji, its absolutely impossible that kano is bigger than lagos.u talk bout chad and Niger when we talk bout thousands and thousands of people migrating to lagos daily from other parts of the country?its IMPOSSIBLE and not even a topic for arguement. But I dont know why u guys keep talkin about voting strenght?Dont u Guys kno how presidential elections are won? I said it b4, ITS AT LEAST 2/3 OF ALL VOTES CAST IN AT LEAST 2/3 OF ALL STATES IN NIGERIA!!!!!NOT SIMPLE MAJORITY. And because of this, all states have equal strenght and count as one, irrespective of population, !!! brother that is not the case here lagos has more population density than kano due to the size of the state kano has more population spread over a larger area at second paragraph, election won by counting votes but realistically it is won by states |

eku_bear: @Obiagu1:
Let's make the following (imo, generous) assumptions:
SE, 98% Igbo, 7028560 Rivers State, 70% Igbo, 2419057 Delta, 30% Igbo, 1900055 Lagos, 20% Igbo, 6247845 SW minus Lagos, 2% Igbo, 8050511 Northern Nigeria, 5% Igbo, 33.11 million
Let's multiply and add up: octave:22> 7028560*0.98+2419057*.7+1900055*.3+6247845*.2+8050511*.02+33.11*1e6*.05 ans = 1.2217e+07
We get 12.217 million Igbo votes including the North, 10.562 million excluding it. So you are getting 1.655 million additional votes in the North.
Let's do the same for Yoruba: SW - Lagos, 95% Yoruba, 8050511 Lagos, 50% Yoruba, 6247845 Kwara, 85% Yoruba, 1115665 Kogi, 25% Yoruba, 1215405 Rest of North, 1%, 33.11*1e6 - 1115665 - 1215405
Multiply and add up: octave:27> 8050511*.95+6247845*.5+1115665*.85+1215405*.25+.01*(33.11*1e6-1115665-1215405) ans = 1.2332e+07
So 12.332 million Yoruba votes including Kwara and Kogi and the North, 10.772 million in the SW alone. So 115k more Yoruba votes than Igbo, even assuming that the North is as populated as they claim.
But what if we slash this Northern population in half? Including Kwara and Kogi? Igbo votes: octave:35> 7028560*0.98+2419057*.7+1900055*.3+6247845*.2+8050511*.02+33.11*1e6*.05*1/2 ans = 1.1390e+07
Yoruba votes: octave:36> 8050511*.95+6247845*.5+1/2*(1115665*.85+1215405*.25+.01*(33.11*1e6-1115665-1215405)) ans = 1.1552e+07
Our advantage has increased slightly, from 115k to 162k votes.
This in a nutshell is why I'm not convinced that Igbo are the most numerous anymore. The assumptions here I think were somewht generous:

I assumed 20% of Lagos is Igbo, only 50% of Lagos is Yoruba. My suspicion is something more like 60%/15% might be more accurate.
I also gave you 70% of Rivers.
And assumed that 1 out of every 20 residents of the North are Igbo.
In the first calculation, I accepted the Northern %s on face value.
But despite this, it appears that Yoruba are more numerous. moreover, you did not calculate the northerners in SW AND SE AND SS the yorubas in SE AND SS |

Cue: Pls,4 avoidance of doubt, dis is wikipedia sourcing from the most relaible demographic scientists in the world, which kind Kanuris are we talkin bout here vis a vis d Ibos?please!!! .Ethnic groups Nigeria, which is Africa's most populous country, is composed of more than 250 ethnic groups; the following are the most populous and politically influential: Hausa and Fulani 29%, Yoruba 21%, Igbo 18%, Ijaw 6.5%, Ibibio 4.5%, Kanuri 4%, Annang 3.5%, Tiv 2.5%, Efik 2%.[4] These percentages are estimates, based on the number of settlements, including the number of towns, villages, hamlets and cities, with information supplied by the Nigeria postal service. Although, these estimates have come under opposition by those who believe the ethnic group population counts have been tampered with for ethnic numerical superiority.[5][6][7] bull.crap, this is wikipedia where people like becomrich can edit |

jason123: No. Igbos are certainly more than the Kanuris. The Hausas and the Yorubas have the same population within a negliable error margin. What make the Core North more than the yorubas is the fulani. guy how are you sure,.,.,., we all know ijaws are not even more than the igalas and yet they have mouth igbos are everywhere, come to the north you would see kanuris everywhere as well do you know kanuri makes up about 20% of lagos |
Politics › Re: State By State Figures Of Inec Voters Registration by aljharem11(m): 12:09am On Feb 24, 2011 |
Obiagu1: Sure. We only have to bridge the divide between SE and SS which we are already doing or trying to do. At worst, If an Igbo vies for a position, SS Igbos' votes will be guaranteed. may be, only if ohaneze or jonathan promise them something anioma people are feeling separated from their brothers |

jason123: From these sites above, it shows that Yoruba and Hausa (without the Fulani) have the same number. I guess it is because of the high rate of polygamy that is prevalent in the two ethnic groups. which mean kanuri and igbos are the same numberi would love this election you know |

nwabobo: I beg to disagree on th OP's bases of conclusion. The op seems to base his conclusion mainly on d number of registered voters. We all know of a truth that of d more than 6m registered voters in Lagos=, at least 1/3 of that figure is Igbo. This trend is also maintained in other regions.
This is the same lies they were bandying around about Ndigbo and education until JAMB started publishing their data based on actual state of origin. Maybe INEC should toe d same line.
Truth be told, if there were free and fair elections in Nigeria, Ndigbo would be d most sought after bride in any part of Nigeria as their bloc vote could determine who wins. In that situation, it won't be out of place to have an Igbo deputy governor in a place likke Lagos state with significant Igbo population. It is not for magnanimity sake that you have/had 2 Igbo sons on the executive council of Lagos state.
In an ideal situation, the title of d post should be As Ndigbo gains relevance. keep talking about lagos when those executive igbo sons of yours do not even know where SE is not to even talk of enugu do you know the official language for debate in lagos is yoruba,.,.,. which means your igbo sons are now part and parcel of the yoruba state chai!!!!! |
