Tastemoney: It is a fool that chooses the wrong way;Hell, and earlier what you read in Mathew 5 was saying don't condemn an unbeliever by the word of ur mouth to hell by saying how unfortunate hell-bent sinner he is if you are doing nothing about his condition by either preaching or praying for him. So what the first scripture is saying is that don't condemn an unbeliever(a fool who chose the wrong way) to hell by condemnation of the word of your mouth. The second passage in Ecclessaistes is saying, the way of the wise(saint, belever) ends in heaven(or the right way) while the way of the fool(unbeliever) ends in Hell(wrong road). There is no contradiction bro.It is like the scripture that says 'the Lord knows the way of the righteous but the way of the wicked shall perish'. |

Family / Re: 4 Lessons I Learned From My Abusive Father About Forgiveness by alolatee(m): 2:00pm On Nov 26, 2016 |
[quote author=positivestory post=51322378]I still remember the day when I told my mother I no longer wanted to be at home. I had had enough of so much pain, sorrow and the constant yelling everywhere. I saw my mother cry bitterly as she took the final decision to get a divorce. I was ten years at the time. My father had always been a very strict man. He used to believe that his ways were the right ways and that everything had a logical order, he even considered himself “successful” because he had his own house, his own car, a high paid salary and a family. He indeed was a success at his office, since he had the guts to get everything done, but his own workers didn’t seem to follow him for the right reasons. They described my father as a man who liked to give orders and to keep things under control. He even told jokes at the expense of others to keep things “cool”, but in reality, those jokes were hurtful and humiliating. I don’t remember my father having any friends, nor saw him inviting anyone to our home for Christmas. Father was always working hard, two shifts for five years. He later told me he did all that to give us a good future, but he was never present. I don’t recall him playing that much with me nor taking us on vacation. In fact, he used to beat me with a belt if I didn’t get good grades at elementary school. He used to bury in my head the thought of “be better than anyone else”. He wanted me to be as competitive as him, as successful as him. He wanted me to become like him. But that wasn’t the whole reason why my parents divorced. My father, thinking he could do whatever he wanted, cheated on my mother with five different women, thinking my mother was not good enough for him anymore. Later in life I understood that it was him who felt not good enough. One day he got very drunk and began calling me names like “Little cockroach” because he knew I would never be as good as him. That’s when I lost it. At ten years old, I jumped towards my father and blindly hit him in every part of his body that I could reach with my tiny fists. My mother came running from the kitchen and had to separate us because, since my father was a mountain of a man, he was easily giving me the beating of my life. That was the last straw for my mother. That night she kicked him out of the house and I could never see him again for a few years. After that day, we were shocked, but felt a small piece of relief. Eventually we finally found peace. The divorce helped my mother to mature, to become stronger and wiser. She had always been there for me and my kid sister. I grew up with the love of my mother who played the role of a father as well. My raising made me think that, if I ever had children, I would never let them live the hell I lived. Time heals all wounds, or so that’s what they say. The age and many life experiences gave me the strength to finally see my father once again after so much time at a very sad family event. He was all by himself. None of the women he used to cheat with were in sight. We spoke few words, gave him my condolences and departed. It had been weird to see my father again after so much time. One day he fell sick with kidney failure and was about to die. I went to see him at the hospital and it was really shocking to see the once strong man reduced to a thin ghost of a man wrapped in a hospital gown. There was no one around to help him but an aunt. No friends, no other women, no one. He was all alone. I spent days and night taking care of him at the hospital, we would joke around and remember the few good things we shared during my infancy. I soon realized my father was just another child that was hit and humiliated during his childhood. His parents had raised him the same way he was raising me, therefore, he grew up with those values carved in his heart. That’s when I realized it made no sense to continue hating him for the horrible childhood he gave me. Life was already giving him a very tough lesson. Loneliness can be worse than death itself. My father eventually recovered and left the hospital. This part of my life made me learn these valuable lessons: 1) Forgiveness doesn’t mean to forget: Some people say “Forgive and forget”, I would say instead “Forgive, don’t forget, but don’t let the memory of what happened control you”. I had known this in my University days.At that time, we were taught sensory, long and short time memory. Each type of memory has its time of elapse. We were told unless you have accident and had problems in the brain.Everyone has ability to retain so do not forget.A pastor Rev Olusola Areogun toed this line recently that one should forgive and forget. He said one can only forgive but not forget. I Chronicles1 has an instruction by David to Solomon on how to deal with his former enemies.Though he forgave them, he did not forget.Ask why? That is why it was written. |

Religion / Re: The Extreme Grace Error! by alolatee(m): 7:02pm On Oct 31, 2016 |
[quote author=emekrus post=50651871]Quite recently, the Lord opened my eyes to His awesome grace; as contained in the new covenant of God, which was ratified by the shed, precious blood of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ (Ezekiel 36: 26-29; Hebrews 8:7-12). And to be very honest, God gave me this revelation after reading a book on grace teaching. Only that the grace message I read was pushed to the extreme. The revelation came from God to that man of God- quite alright- only that it was pushed to the extreme, thereby leading to mutilation of other scriptural truths. If this great man of God had taught this great scriptural revelation in harmony with other balancing scriptural truths, most of the errors in this grace doctrine that have been proliferated all over the place, would have been mitigated. This pushing of the grace doctrine to the extreme, has led so many people into devastating heresies. It has pushed many folks into getting off on very dangerous tangents. And I’m sure it is from this extreme grace teachings that the heretic doctrine of OSAS (Once Saved Always Saved) was born. I’m also sure it’s from teachings such as this that led someone to share a forum post that read “Forgive—If you do not forgive, you go to hell—False doctrine”. By this message, the author doctored the eternal truth of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. Which says if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your heavenly father forgive you (Matthew 6:15). Hence, this article is written with the intention (and a great burden) in my heart to point out these extremism and smoothen them out. So people do not get deluded—believing a lie about the truth. The Major Errors of The Extreme Grace Doctrine 1. Error 1: The Commandments of Jesus Before Death and Resurrection Are No Longer Relevant Under Grace The extreme grace doctrine says that all the Commandments of Jesus before he went to the cross, are no more relevant under this dispensation of Grace. And that Jesus’s teaching before going to the cross was to bring the law to its pristine position, with the intention that we could fully recognize that we cannot keep the law. There is truth in this point of view, but its half-baked (and half-baked truths are worse than no truth at all). Yes, Jesus did bring the law to its pristine position by his teachings; and by so doing it was obvious we can’t keep them with our own strength or the energy of the flesh. But to say that we can’t keep them at all, is false. Because, if it is so, the Lord won’t demand that we should keep them in his own very words (see Matthew 7:24-27). And yes, even the disciples observed the human inability to keep the Lord’s commandments in its pristine state. But right there and then, the Lord gave them the key to the obedience. He clearly told them that he knows that keeping the commandments is impossible with men, but it is a possibility with the help of God (Mark 10: 25-27). In other words, Jesus was telling them that they could keep all his commandments through the help of the Holy Ghost, who is the Spirit of Grace. Hence, the bible tells us that we can establish (or keep) the law of Christ by Faith (Rom 3:31). That is, Faith in the new covenant of Grace through the death of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ (Ezekiel 36: 26-29; Heb 8:7-12, 9:15-22). And by the grace of God, I’m a living testimony of this eternal truth; of establishing the law by Faith. By faith in the new covenant of grace, I live above sin. I don’t struggle to keep the commandments of Christ. All I just do is lean on the abundance of Grace and the gift of righteousness that I have received from Christ through his Holy Spirit that indwells me (Rom 5:17), and that automates my lifestyle of Holiness. And if I err, I just quickly receive mercy and forgiveness from the throne of grace (Heb 4:16) and repent of the sin and move on by faith. But to say we should disregard all the injunctions of Christ before Believe you me, i earlier wrote in a thread i authured on counsels, i call them those you named extreme grace preachers, cheap grace preachers....how can you say what Jesus did before his resurrecrion is not as valid as the now?I asked my twin brother this allthough he made o reply, i know it is a faulty doctrine. Those who also say that a believer need not ask for forgiveness, what i tell them is, what Job said ' those who break the hedge, the serpent will bite'- and also that grace cannot stop judgement. Thanks for re-asserting my belief in Christ through this article.I thank God am not the only one thinking like you. |
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: How God Used Nairaland To Get Me This Job After A Lot Of Struggles by alolatee(m): 9:33pm On Oct 10, 2016 |
[quote author=JamesVIIILegend post=50075173]Yesterday makes it exactly 4 years that I graduated from UNIBEN with a BSc, second class upper. By God's grace, I finished with a 4-pointer CGPA and I left school with great delight and hope for the future. In the last four years, a lot of things have happened. Yesterday was also the end of the service year for many erstwhile corpers, so I took the pain to write this down and share my story, hoping that everyone, especially those seeking for job opportunities will learn a thing or two. As a young graduate in 2012 and 13, there were many challenges I faced and Some of them were even more serious sometimes because of my Christian faith I graduated at the age of 26 and when i write application for jobs, some employers ask for long years of experience and age restrictions. Notable among these is the KPMG which I applied for but they didn't accept application from those over the age of 25. I was tempted severely and severally to swear affidavit in a court of law so I could adjust my age and be able to get these jobs. A friend who was 27 when we applied did the same and got called for interview within months, when he told me about it that evening, it was just God that held me back from calling his runs guy to help me arrange mine. I remember one of those days during NYSC when a sudden fear came upon me and I became sad within just because of the realisaytion that some good and reputable companies place age restrictions on their recruitment processes. I prayed and wept that day and also made a vow never to lie about my age for any reason. Fastforward to after NYSC- February 2014 I submitted applications in numerous places and in some instances invited for interviews. In a particular case, I lost the opportunity because I couldn't drive. Two weeks after that one, there was a particular job opportunity I missed that brought tears to my eyes and pained my family members also. It was a teaching job in one of those first-class sixth form Colleges in Lekki, Lagos. Though they asked for experience, because of my passion for academics and also because the job was more or less a lecturing job considering the role, I decided to try my luck. The very idea of teaching excited me so much. I applied and fortunately I was shortlisted for an interview. Getting to the venue, I found out it was a very corporate school, they even had white students. The school had connection with some universities abroad. The interview included some international exams including Cambridge exams for me. The exam was very hard and some questions were strange but I just tried my best. After the written test, I was orally interviewed. I told them the amount expected as salary, issue bothering around experience and so on. About a week later, I got a message that I passed the first stage of the interview and I was invited for a final selection chat in Eko hotel and suites in Lagos. Before that day, I had only seen Eko hotel on pages on newspapers and on the TV. I didn't even know what to wear. I had no suit nor jacket. The shoe I wore for the interview was my grandad's. On getting to the venue of the interview with my well-ironed shirt, tie and trousers, it turned out I was the only person not wearing suit, We were shown to the office of a white man and soon, we started. I need to state here that the institution hired a consultant to handle this recruitment for them, not all these agents. When it got to my turn, I was right before the main man from the school and the consultant. The issue of experience came up again, but the consultant excused me and said I had no problem since I was personally recommended by the man teaching the subject because of the way I answered the question when he interviewed me in the written test. The main man said since everyone one was okay with me. I was offered a congratulatory handshake and that was it. Even though I'd told them I would accept anything higher than 60k, they told me they would do better than that. I was told I would be invited for a class practice just for formality since it was already concluded I've got for the job. Indeed it could only be God...more success stories await your way in Jesus name.Amen. |
