Selewyn Hughes is a writer, public speaker, teacher and above all a man of God who has more than 40 years in ministry to his name.Google him please...U know what, the bible says when you have 2 and mostly 3 witnesses, the truth is established. You don't ask for gift less it bcms i'm worth it. The Holy Spirit is a gift you receive at salvation. The gifts of the Spirit are distributed according to the will of the Holy Spirit so its not ur asking He supplies u when d need arise.
you don't receive all at salvation..this is a famous write-up in a daily devotional i use.Authoured by Selewyn Hughes- Every Day With Jesus.it detailed stories of great men of God who after being saved took them months and years to be baptised in the Holy Spirit.Of particular mention is Blaise Pascal a french Mathematician and Inventor who is also known to have written a great book in the christiandom..it ends by saying if you know you have received all at salvation, why are u the way you are.why are u not turning the world upside down for Christ?...i end my case

Slow down brother...The people in Acts 19:1-6 were disciples of John the Baptist and not Jesus. Do not read your own meaning into the bible. I have seen so many exhort tongue speaking which happens to be the least of all gifts and as the bible rightfully mentioned, it is a sign to unbelievers (1 Cor 14:22).
...
John baptised so many and as such it doesn't go beyond baptism and as such the bible did not say that it was John's disciples....They were simply men who John baptised...my friend, about the second observation, Speaking in Tongues is different from the gift of Tongues...The gift of tongues is one of the Gifts of The SPIRIT.the bible says it is not as important as other gifts because people could not benefit from it because the speaker edifieth himself.

see Act 2:17-18 Prophecy is the sign to show u r filled with the Holy Spirit.
just as my brother rightly said, u pray to receive the gifts of God.When the Holy Spirit comes upon you, u may not have all desired gifts of the spirit which is given through asking in prayer. The Holy Spirit is a gift just as we have the gifts of the Spirit..both are prayed for to be manifested.Prophecy is a gift of the spirit as enumerated in 1 corinthians12 and 14.Ask and it shall be given.Prophecy is never said to be the sign of the infilling of the Holy Spirit...not anywhere in scripture is this surported.

Of course my brother....the bible is the final authurity and as such the bible says in Mark:16vs17, Believers will speak in 'Strange Tongue'.The believers in Acts19vs1-6 and verse 6 correctly says they spoke in Strange Tongues.Notice that they were believers and as such since they were disciples it would be wrong to suggest those who do not speak in tongues are not believers, but the enduement of power as promised in Acts1vs8 will be absent from a life that do not speak in tongues.Note: i do not speak in tongues but right beleving will lead to right living..am still praying to God to endue me with this gift.I urge u to believe rightly in order to receive rightly and in time, so, i support my brother 'a777'...i forgot his name
Paul was minstered to by a brother in Damascus when he got baptised. It wasn't automatic for him either. Even after calling Jesus Lord.

Show me where Paul mentioned gifts when he was talking to the corinthians brethren.

What Jesus said is that the Father gives the Holy Spirit to those WHO ASK HIM.

How clearer can the condition be than this.

Cornelius didn't ask and they wouldn't have asked before; neither would Peter had prayed for them. Because they didn't know the gentiles could receive the Spirit.

God broke protocol like on pentecost to make a doctrinal statement. After that time, accounts of Holy Ghost baptism was after prayer and/or laying on of hands.
ayoku777, without mincing words, i think you are right...one has a measure of the Spirit at salvation but not commisurate with the measure one has when he is filled with tthe Holy Spirit with antendant speaking in Tongues...i recommend your reply to be the truth..thanks

How is Nigeria consider a big brother in Africa? Nigeria is the most hated African country. Go to Facebook and see the comment made by other Africans against Nigerians. We have our own problem in Nigeria and we should fix them and stop worrying about US role in other African countries

u probably derailed from the thread.Nigeria has restored peace to some African countries and whenever it should be respected it is like those countries never appreciate its efforts. The point i raised in the far end of my write up is that we should play our part purely on Humanitarian and Love for our fellow men and not copy th general American belief of 'American Interest'.thanks anyway.

i understand, i was not at all against what you said. so christians would say Jesus is the son of GOD, true so he was GOD's servant too, and they categorically say Muhammad is a servant of GOD, and not a son thereby suggesting that Islam is a slave making religion. Muhammad too is a son of GOD. Me oooo, i am a direct descendant of GOD.
well you area muslim so what i say may not be clear to you.i am persuaded though that you love Christianity and wanted to believe in Jesus.I qute you ACTS 4vs12.There is no other name given amongst men whereby we can be saved but Jesus alone i add.Try christanity and the Hollow in Your heart will be filled.I hope you now understand me?
PoliticsMuch Ado About American Interest by alolatee(op):
It is a common phenomenon for all US presidents to consider the gain accruing to America in joining a war or fighting for liberation in any part of the world.Statements like what does America has to gain in this fight or what will American ntervention has to gain in the internal crisis of a nation/state economically. The war in Iraq some believe yielded Oil contracts for Iraqi security forces as some of the gains America had to gain. The Liberian war which ended a decade ago also yielded more military hardwae purchases from American companies for the for the Liberian security forces.Put simply, America does not intervene where its political and economic interest are not protected, assured and guaranteed. This 'Tortoise foreign Relation' is what line Nigeria are want to thread.Nigeria and Nigerians complain we are not respected in Africa and beyond despite our influence, support, intervention which are known and acknowledged worldwide and within the African continent.I think we should wise up and rather play our big brother parts purely on humanitarian and love as preached by the Holy books and turn from the American norm of giving to earn respect.
What do you think?
Christianity EtcRe: Servants Vs Sons/daughters Of God. by alolatee(op): 8:40pm On Nov 03, 2014
what is the meaning of servant? is servant a bad word? if GOD should call me his servant, then i am more than all the world's presidents put together. However, i am a direct descendant of GOD the originator and HIS grandson and son.

My friend what am saying is in response to what some misunderstand between servants of God and sons of God.John 15vs15 rightly as i also quoted rightly answered your question.A servant does not know what a master does.God said we are to be known as friends no more as servants.A logic is a son is a friend not a foe. And the closest for that matter. The position we are in Christ makes us enjoy the relationship with God as son. That is our status and that is how God sees us.We can refer to ourselves as servants of God; that is in reference to our service to God.That is why i said we are accepted into heaven based on our position in Christ as sons and daughters-our Christian character in christ as disciples.Hope am able to answer your question.
Christianity EtcServants Vs Sons/daughters Of God. by alolatee(op):
In status, we are sons of God but in service we are servants...He sends us to where he wills but never recognize us or deals or gives us things as servants but as sons/ daughters...no wonder he said he will no longer address us as servants because
a servant knows not what a master does but as sons and friends he will know us.
Jesus recognized the position of his disciples and named them Disciples/Apostles not servants (Acts1vs2)..He recognized their status but he sent them as servants.Paul referred to himself in all the epistles as he wrote only twice in Romans and Philippians as servants of God, other places of his epistle he said Apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ talking of his status.
Peter called himself and Apostle but in 2Peter, he called himself a servant. All these servanthood is to draw home the point their labour for the land. But sonship makes us have certain rights as believers. The position we are in Christ as being disciples no wonder he said 'I am an apostle' as if to say i speak in authority of who am in Christ. There is reward for faithful service (Matthew25vs23), but we are admitted to heaven as a disciple- who we are in Christ not service; works.Who we are in Christ not on service- works which can suffer loss or stay as purer and purer as Gold is tried in fire.As many that receive him to them he gave the power to become the sons of God to them that believe in his name(John1vs12).
PoliticsWill Insurgences Ever End In Nigeria? by alolatee(op): 8:28am On Oct 10, 2014
Considering the fact that Niger-Delta militancy started like a child's play and it dragged to a couple of years before it could be put to an end. Also, the Boko -Haram insurgency which is battling us in the North-East of Nigeria was said to have started too as a child play which could have ended with minimal loss of lives had the government intervened appropriately. There is the likelyhood someone had reported to the security agencies and in which nothing was done about it.
My discouse here is to intimate Nigerians about what they already know-Radio Biafra.some couple of 9 years ago, i heard this radio broadcast on the shortwave and was surprised the government agency NBC had nothing to do about it.I even tried sending Sms to a media house then .My recent surprise is to hear this radio operate as Radio Biafra on MY TV radio services. Our Ibo brothers should never toe this line of war again considering what the cost is to them today as people do not yet even trust them with the presidency. The former leader of Biafra fled and left them clueless during the war and later was pardoned. What of the scores dead? They must do nothing which will make Nigerians suspect their chances to the presidency again. I warn.

If your answer is no then we are talking about different things.God deserve the credit also.i Can't but agree with you Passion007.Pastor Adeboye in his yearly national and international predictions of events usually say if we can pray those bad natural disasters loke flooding will be averted by God.moreso data analysis in meterology agencies may be accurate atimes but events may outwit the efforts of these agencies. For example, a flood build up by studying the wind direction may appear to build up in certain areas but may actually bring about wrong signal on the screen of the devices used in forcasting.A clear case was the recent report of a Russian officer who heard a wrong signal from a satellite warning system but has to detect it was a wrong warning from the satellite and that prevented US/Russia war.I wholeheartdly support you Passoin007
Does Ondo state have communities with coastal boundaries along River Niger and Benue? EducationThe Needless ASUU Strike by alolatee(op): 11:55pm On Oct 12, 2013
It is no more news tertiary institutions in Nigeria namely universities have been on strike running into more than Hundred days now, what is sad however is the alleged demands of univerisity union,ASUU.The purpoted demand of 3trillion Naira by ASUU is to say the least outrageous. How much is the total budget of the nation?from my investigation,it is nothing more than 4.8trillion Naira.Subtract 4.8 trillion from 3trillion Naira and you are left with 1.8trillion naira.Does other sectors of the economy not in dire need of attention?Take the ongoing strike by Doctors for instance,do they too not require govenment intervention?Security is the biggest threat to Nigeria's unity with Boko Haram in the north thus needing an overhauling of the security apparatus and equipping of our security agencies. What about Power? the number one amenity Nigerians definitely want desperately. What with the Amerrican largesse of a paltry $7 billion dollars for Africa which is not sufficient enough for Nigeria alone.I challenge ASUU to be truthful if its demands have not been politicised like the government earlier noted. What about other sectors of the economy time will not avail me to mention here?In other words ASUU is saying other sectors should share the other 1.8 trillion Naira remaining after deducting the 3trillion naira it demanded from the government from the national budget? The needless strike should be called off and negotiation should continue and allow Nigerian graduates to go for their mandatory National Youth Service and pave way for the undergraduates to continue their 'la cram la pour la A'.

N doubt Nigerians are appreciative in a little way what democracy has brought to them in terms of dividends of democracy.Take the advent of mobile communication or freedom of speech as examples.Under the military,it was practically impossible to talk carelessly as some Nigerians are found of doing using social foras, but the excesses of some politicians are of utmost concern for them namely elected Governors.Governors by constitution function under Legislative list majorly in terms of seperation of powers with the Federal Government in the centre. That is,delegated responsibilities of the Federal Government.Nigerian Governors want devolution of powers from the Federal Government from the Exclusive list in areas like Education,Policing,Derivation Royalties e.t.c. .But same does not want Local Government autonomy. They would use whatever form to kick against this.Take the crisis in the PDP for example,it is known the reasons the Governors are fighting the President is conncted with 2015.Now the constitution review with the National Assembly is concluded and the governors are already mounting pressure on the State Legislatures to jettison Local Government autonomy.Governors want to decide everything including who becomes the President. If the Excesses of these emperorship Governors are not cubbed.we may wake up one day and fine out they determine who get any job includig the media houses that will become theirs. What does nairalanders think?
