Happy Saturday Mamas. Now that tomato is becoming too expensive, let's suggest alternative stew ingredients. Help a soul o, I make stew every week. Thanks.

If you have a reasonably big compound, or live in your own house, have you considered growing your own tomatoes? You can grow in big flower pots. It may not be enough to give you a full weekly pot of stew all year round but from experience 3 well looked after plants will produce a decent supply of fresh tomatoes for at least a big pot of stew, and some random sauces, and even storing in the freezer.

Alternatvely, you can also make stew with just peppers and onions, with Palm oil - ayamase style, not sure it will be any cheaper though.

Perhaps also tweak your household menu, if you usually eat stew with everything..... look for how to break the habit. That may help as well.

You could also introduce some medemede style sauces that do not use tomatoes. Can be had with basmati rice, Irish and sweet potato and pasta.

Husbands really need to be more supportive of their wives decide to do family planning. I find this issue of my husband is against family planning very ignorant and selfish of husbands.

All these religious nonsense of it is God that gives children is just story. Have 12 children and see if it isnt poverty that will embrace you! If you like pray and fast all you want for favour!

Also sometimes I think it is How we women raise the issue.
If you have both decided that you want a break from kids, then you tell the man like you are asking and pleading for his permission to go for family planning, he may very well take it that way!. Do we ask for their opinion when we are having cramps and want to take pain killers?

You are telling him for his information. Not for his action.

If he decides without any rational justification, he wants you not to do it, then he should take the appropriate steps and protect himself. No gist about withdrawal. No condom No action ! It is not negotiable! You cannot eat your cake and have it!

The best family planing is abstinence anyway, so let everybody kuku chill and be looking at each other's face.

Hello house, A lady has never missed her period, infact her menstrual cycle is always 25days. Never more, never less. The lady got married in march and today 26th April, the lady found out she's missed her period for 4 days alredy... 4 days behind schedule. Its going to be her first time missing her period in 27years so therefore the lady quickly did the home kit pregnancy test and it was negative. Lady is worried. Negative PT test and No period. Pls house, is a Lady in any trouble already?

A lady should wait a few more days and re-do the pregnancy test.

If still negative and no period, a lady should go and do blood test.

If still negative consult your doctor for investigations as to why a lady's period has gone missing.

House does not understand what you mean by the boldened. Please clarify trouble?

I will be using coconut oil as baby lotion all through. My neighbour use it and the benefits are so much. So I will have to prepare enough that will last 3 months.

I also learnt that some babies grow so fast that they outgrow their cloths in one week. Any solution to this while shopping?

Avoid buying too many newborn clothes. They are only till like 5kg. Your baby may come out bigger than expected.
0-3 months is ok for new born for the first month or so depending on your baby.

It is also ok to jump a size. So they have a bigger size that they can use for longer.
For example You can to buy up to 6 months as Roseey0 has said and omit 0- 3 months. Then he next size you buy will be 12 months. You omit the 9month size.

Babies are not very mobile at the early stages so it is fine for them to wear much larger sizes and grow into it. By the time They get to 6 months or 9 months and a very mobile, (crawling and standing) the longer lengths and bigger sizes may be come a trip hazard so just take that into consideration when you get to that stage and make sure you keep am extra eye out especially for the body suites as these tend to have trailing leg bits which they can trip on. For normal clothes, i.e. dresses or trousers, this is not an issue. Just roll it up. All na guy!

KWell Madam undecided the receiving blanket +teddy bear is same as the pics I posted below I saw it packed in a box and it came with a teddy it also came with a pillow which made it a plus and I picked it. For the fact newborns don't need teddy didn't mean they won't need it later. Can't be going to the market again to buy things if I could get it now, why not if the money is available now? I am not putting my hope on getting gifts from people if they come fine and if they don't, so be it!
Secondly, the flannels are those ones that you can use in backing baby and at the same time serve as bed sheets.

Normal clothes line dryer for my first baby like seriously? Hanty please don't make me laugh... grin

As for the bath set, yes there are bath set for as low as 4k but I went for this one cos I found it more durable and it's my choice. I don't plan on having just one child by God's grace, will use it for all my children.

All what I got are my choices and preferences people's choices differ and if God provide by his grace we all want something better!

I didn't want to reply you initially I'm only doing it for the sake of the good mama's here that need clarification! Bye cool

Below are pics attached including the bath set I got. cool

No need to get defensive Ma'am. It's your choice, no arguments about that.

Posts and Comments are not only for your sake but for others on the thread as well. As I am sure your initial list was to help others with current prices based on the items you got.

Many a first time moms have gotten stuff that they do not really need, or are not very useful! Comments are only to highlight the dual roles things can have into perspective, especially if resources are limited .

We all have rose tinted glasses on when shopping for our first baby. I know someone who bought a new 2nd washing machine when she had her first baby. It was a great idea at the time.... so a special baby clothes drying rack is nothing in comparison. grin

Your clarifications with posting the pictures also serve to show people the differences in the items and what the contents are in the bath set. All in all people are better informed.

Note: What I did was that someone referred me to a big shop the woman sell wholesale prices. So I presented my list, selected everything she packed them, we calculated the total price together then I made deposit 3times . As I was making the deposit she asked me to be moving some things gradually cos of space in her shop cheesy Well the woman is nice sha and at the same time the trust was there not everyone will do it. So for most of us that plan shopping especially first time mums but don't have all the money in bulk, this secret may work for you too grin. Please mama's any other thing you think I need in the list, please add. Thanks

Below is the hospital list I was given no mucus extractor in the list maybe they don't use it.

Did you actually buy everything on this list above? Some are doubling up on uses.

For example flannels and receiving blanket are practically the same thing.
You have 2 in One flannel, at 2800
4 in 1 flannel @ 3800 AND receiving blanket + teddy bear @ 2500. That is N9,100 on flannel? And a teddy bear which you may get as a gift and is not really ideal for newborns anyways? You do not need that many. Check the sizes typically these would be about 32"×40" or thereabouts . The pack of 4 is more than enough.

You will need far many more bibs than 6! Except you want to be washing twice a day. Biko triple that number !

Your face towel can double as a sponge. Why do you need hard and soft? Save your 700 biko every little helps. Also you do know that you can get a normal towel and face towel for baby, and it may just be cheaper Just saying baby towel is such as scam!

Baby clothes dryer?? Is this specifically sold as a baby item? A normal clothes dryer will work just as well, and possibly cheaper and you can use it for the whole family.

Oh and baby bath set? Abeg what is in the set that is N13K. Honestly for newborns, those baby baths are quite useless, because you usually still have to hold baby or place on your knees to bath.... Just saying. They are more useful when baby can sit unaided.

Newborn mittens are also quite useless... as the bloody things keep falling off and getting missing.... You are better off getting body suits that have integrated scratch mittens or get socks..... and using on the hands... The elastic is much better and it is guaranteed to stay in place better.

Just my view. It may save you a few bob!

Wemmy017:
Good morning Mamas, I've come with my QUESTION again...pls
I once complained about my itching and peeling areola which led to sore. I visited the doctor and was given hydrocorrisone cream to apply for 2 wks. A friend here also asked me to always clean it with methylated spirit. After a while everything came to normal. I stopped the whole process for a while and started noticing some flaking again and signs that the sore was going to return. That was how i resumed my routine again. Every morning, i clean with spirit and apply the cortisone. But everytime i clean, the cotton wool will be very dirty as shown.

My question is, why is it always dirty or is that how our areola is? I don't mind any info on breast hygiene. because i don't think i can be cleaning with spirit after birth.

Sabi Mamas abeg, don't jump and pass!!

I would suggest you stop both the spirit and hydrocortisone. For the cream I would suggest you seek another doctors opinion as it is a steroid cream and may need to be avoided while pregnant or breast feeding.

During these periods your nipples are generally more sensitive and the cream may be doing more harm than good. Depending on the strength you are using.

Clean n.pple using a warm hand towel when bathing. You could also use a sugar scrub to gently remove dead skin cells. After your normal bath. Simply mix granulated sugar and olive/coconut oil. Just use your eye to gauge it, put it on your damp hand towel and rub in a circular motion. Then rinse off.

Get some lanolin based n.pple cream such as lansinoh and use on it. You can also use olive oil or coconut oil as well. Apply generously at least 2 -3 times a day.

You can put on a breast pad so that your bra and clothes do not rub off on he ni.pples if they are sensitive. It will also keep the oils or lanolin on for longer.
If you are going to bed, sleep with a bra if you can , you can dip a cotton pad in the oils and pop into your breast pad.

You may just be suffering from dry skin. Pregnancy does weird s#!+ to people.

Mamas that have their Babies at the crèche, How do y’ll deal with this separation anxiety.... I have been having headache since yesterday.

I got an Email to resume work on Monday from an organization I had an interview with since early March sad.. [s][/s]already taken my mind off the Job sef [s][/s] and we have been on exclusive since, I don’t even know what to do or how to start .. I have been crèche hunting since yesterday and at the same time , being have diff bad thoughts about crèche cos of the stories I read about some wicked Nannies, it’s just doing me somehow angry

I dunno how to go about the food cos I have not being expressing for her , the last time I did it she didn’t take the bottle and I just got tired with trying since we are always together but now dat I have to start work on Monday , dunno how to go about the food thingy.

Gave her Aptamil creamed banana porridge earlier today , she took it , then I also bought August secrets food since she is close to 6 months ( we are 5 months 9 days already) , not started with the purée foods yet ... she eventually threw up the whole food , tried giving her again but she kept on pushing it away ( I know I have to be patient)and I have just 3 days till Monday , mamas Biko what’s the way forward here cos I have being having headache since.

PS: where can I get that Haiers flask, saw the reviews about the flask here , plus asides putting packing hot water for her , do I still need to put cold water in another flask? Sorry for my confused state, am new at this, thanks!!

Breathe in! And out!

Do not beat up yourself about it.

It's annoying that the notice is so short, a week extra would have helped tremendously to make sure she is settled ok in the new environment and for you as well. But hey we are where we are.... so, let's ace this!

At this age, milk is still their primary meal! So that is a good thing!

Go and buy formular and pack it for her as back up.
You can start expressing for her from today and freezing so you have some bm to take to the creche on monday.

When you pick her up in the evenings. You can start offering her other solids and you continue at the weekends with the new food introduction. These can then be added to the creche food.

You can also give her cereals for them to try in nursery, give then only things that just need them to add water or milk.

With new foods for babies just a few spoons initially is considered a success, we mums sometimes expect them to finish a whole plate/bowl. Consider also that they are learning to take food off a spoon and swallow things that are a new texture for them. So it will take time.

Pre-pack each feed plus like 2 extra portions,. Pack your flasks of hot water and a bottle of normal water. Pack your nappies and a few extra clothes.

The next few weeks may be stressful but You will be fine.
