If funds are not an issue and i am in the mood for a big do.........in fact my parties will have hot air balloons, fire works, circus performers and unlimited food and drinks.

Not really
Don't know how to explain
Guess it was finely blended

You dont need to.

If you boil or steam it soft enough the shaft will be soft enough to blend smooth.

Please can I give my 17months old dd crushed/blended cornflakes or rice crisps? Is there any nutrients that is required of babies in there? She doesn't take any adult food to satisfaction after two or three quarter spoons she will not accept again. It only semo and okra I can say she takes very well but I can be giving her that all the time. I want to add more to her cereals variety

Once a baby has crossed 12 months they can eat most adult food. Cereal-wise I will say crush to make the pieces smaller. Ensure that there are no added sugar or salt and avoid the sugar coated ones like frosted flakes and the Choco this or strawberry that. You can also mix with baby rice to get a thicker texture if your baby prefers it like that.

Nutrient wise, you will need to vary her meals. Just keep throwing all variety at her. If she likes Swallow mix it up, semo, amala, pounded yam, rice flour... I am not a fan of eBa but you may want to try a small quantity.

You may want to substitute the normal whole milk for toddler milk which is fortified with added vitamins Although these are more expensive and should not really be used as a meal substitute.

Also try finger foods she can eat at her own pace, the cleaning may be plenty afterwards but that may just be the solution to feed her some and let's her seat some by herself

HolySteph:

Oats/wheats are not for infants. Their body system isn't ready for such meals until 1yr hence the reaction. Just discontinue those meals. i'll advice you discontinue those chemicals you're using on your baby's skin. Use breast milk on the skin after bath and air free your baby's body. There's nothing breast milk cannot do. Give your baby lots of breast milk.

On a second note, are you really 'Khaleesi' from game of thrones? grin

Sorry oh but this statement is based on .........

A very good number of baby cereals (branded) are based on oats and wheat.

If a baby has a particular intolerance or allergy to oats or wheat, that is an individual and isolated incident. Not a generic one that applies to ALL infants.

Countless babies world wide have been weaned on these cereals the only recomendation is that it is cooked properly as with most foods you give a child.
And as with all foods is an allergy or intolerance is observed, then the stop giving that food.

is it sensible for me to still bottle feed my 7months baby her follow on milk? Cos she doesn't take cereals and pap, so I don't know how else to incorporate milk into her meal. She takes only pureed adult food and fruits. She's still breastfeeding though..

You can feed with bottle. You can also mix in a cup and give her in place of water during meals. You can also add to some pureed recipes. Shared a couple from feddy27 above.

This is very timely! Thanks for taking the initiative...
The mashed potatoes, can I add breast milk, as oppose to for formula? What consistency should the potatoes be? Very watery? What amount of milk should I add to the potato puree?

Yes you can add breast milk. For a 6 month old, use the consistency of typical pap to gauge the amount of milk you add.

I also usually use the commercial baby jar foods as a guide to textures. How Smooth or how lumpy it needs to be for a particular age. You may not get it exactly as the commercial brands as they usually have better industrial blenders than what you have in your kitchen but it can make a difference to the baby rejecting a food due to texture.

I understand the question. For clarity see recipe

Mix your formula powder with water (or use expressed breastmilk)
Break egg inside the mixed milk
Whisk together, you should have the consistency of moin moin mix
Pour in a ramekin (use a mug if you don't have ramekin)
Place in a pot of water and steam for about 30 mins (like moin moin, check periodically to confirm it's cooked through)

Listeriasis won't come up here because the egg gets cooked

Recipe is on baby centre and other baby sites but you'll see cornflour and sugar in some of them

The recipe

I think i must shared this b4 on NL but cant say when or where.
Well what u need.
Beans (washed and carefully picked without any beans covering like u want to prepare moi moi)
Titus fish- skinned n de-boned... then scattered to be almost mashed.
Carefully picked crayfish or prawns without the legs and all that....
Good cooking oil (or olive oil)

Put washed beans in d pot to cook till soft.
When very soft add the fish..
The cryfish n lil onion should be blended n added.
No spice but u can put a pinch of salt
Table spoon of oil will do.
Then continue cooking very well till everything desolves.

Then serve with butter or egg yoke.

Put d rest in transparent nylon in small small quantity like small moi moi and freeze.
When baby wants to eat... put in d hottest part (vegetable section) of fridge or outside d fridge to defrost and warm.

I think its 6months to 1year
The child will just be licking mouth.
U can then proceed to moi moi.
Although most children eat moi moi as early as possible.

Modify
So my mum came over n made it for Zoe
She blended the mix after cooking very soft so Zoe can use a feeding bottle.
She also added liver.

Is it the formular she is rejecting or the teat!?

It may be she doesnt like the teat as i know a few people who have gone through a wide range of teats and bottle brands to get the one that their baby accepts.

Since you are thinking of weaning her, You can try given her a bit of formular from a spoon or even a cup! Yes it will be messy at the start but at least you may be able to tell if its the formular she doesnt like. Get one of those clear small plastic disposable cups so you can see her mouth.

Also, are you breast feeding her as well?

Have you tried giving her expressed milk from the same bottle? If she rejects that too it may just be the bottle/teat combo and not the milk.

Should you decide to introduce other foods, limit it to just a few teaspoons at a time and simple single flavours....i.e no mixy-mixy. And blend to a very smooth purree.
Banana, mangoes, cooked carrots, avocado, sweet potato are good for starters and remember to give some water as well to avoid constipation.

If it seems she is spitting it out... remember that spoon feeding and moving food in her mouth new to her. She needs to learn new tongue movements that move the food from front of mouth to the back and get used to the new flavours and textures. So be patient.

He he he he wetin i do na?!

Pele, you don try! E no easy. I wonder how some people manage to do it for longer..

I dont know if his being pre term matters so you will have to check with your doctor first.

For starters what i did was get a pack each of

baby rice ( you know my struggles from previous post),
Aptamil cereal
Cow and gate creamy porridge. All of them the ones from 4 mos.
( aptamil cereal and the creamy porridge already contain milk so its just to add water.)

Then also some cow and gate food jars. Just a few for out and about days or when food inspiration fails me.

To be honest the orisirisi is not that hard and it is waaaaayyyyy cheaper than pouch or jar food!

I started with basic and easy fruits and veg...

■Banana - can be mashed with a fork
■Mangoes - if ripe enough a fork would do but in the early days i used a hand blender to make it eeally smooth
■carrots - boiled or steamed and blended
■avocado - mashed with a fork.
■Sweet potato - boiled and mashed or blended till smooth.
■ripe plantain - boiled and blended

Note for most of these you would need to add a few spoons of water to blend any excess was put in an ice tray wraped in cling film and frozen. If you are using immediately you can use some of babies usual milk.

I did single stuff for like 2 - 3 weeks, then started my mixy mixy. I then take my baby's food out of the main pot before i add maggi, and pepper.

So things like, beans, yam, spinach, amala, poundo, okra were introduced. So that she gets used to the house food. ( as i dont want her to go and get used to cauliflower cheese from hipp and the like meanwhile na amala and yam the rest of us dey chop for house. I cant set myself up for future food drama. My policy is one house - one pot)

If you do a search, there are like one or more pages with various food ideas from different mamas.

If he can hold stuff you can start giving him finger foods duting meal times things like yam, potatoes, soft boiled carrots can be sliced up for him to hold and he will just be there contently sucking the life out of it......

Please do not leave him alone un- supervised with food at any time.

Also i introduced food with a soft tip spoon and water from a cup at mealtimes.....

AlphaHandMaiden:

when i said entire journey, i didnt mean the entire time you will be away. i meant the period of time you will actually be traveling. ie. flight or car journey time from your home to your destination, and any transit times you spend in the airport.

So if for instance you live in Ibadan, travelling to New york and transiting in Amsterdam: you need to carry enough food from when you leave your house in Ibadan till you get to the place you will be staying in your destination city in america, plus a few extra days worth of food as if you arrive at a stupid time, the shops may be closed and you wont be able to buy anything till the next day.

Example:

Ibadan to Lagos - lets allow 2 hours
assuming you arrive 3 hours before your flight allow for this in your calculation
Lagos Amsterdam - 6 hours
transit in Amsterdam - 3 hours
Amsterdam to NYC - JFK- 8 hours
JFK to where you are staying - assuming 1.5 hours

total - 23.5 hours
you basically allow for 24 hours food, milk snacks, and bottles for your journey ( handbag and hand luggage) plus a couple of days extra for when you get to NYC ( in your checked in luggage).

pack each travel meal separately in transparent freezer bags and label them: for example breakfast bag will contain, milk, cereal, fruit and snacks, bottles, bowls, spoons and bibs. same for lunch, dinner and any other meals

it makes it easier when you get to security and you need to bring out your hoard of "liquids" and fluids and food

take only the meal pack you need in the plane or car journeys in your handbag put the others in your hand luggage.

if you feed your babies just before you leave home, put the first food pack in your handbag, you may need it in the car so it should be within easy reach.

when you get to the airport, during transit or before you land move the meal pack for the next meal into your handbag. because when you get to your destination....... they can put your hand luggage into the booth and there may not be a good place to stop the car and retrieve it so either you keep it with you or you move what you need into your handbag.

Pack the foods you know your babies like and take without much drama, this is not the time to be experimenting if you have a fussy eater.

Aim to feed and do your nappy changes before: you get into the car, plane and before you land. - Immigration queues can be long. if you arrive at the same time an A380 packed to the brim is arriving from China, or india, immigration will be packed to the hilt and you can easily be on the line for an hour or more. the airport staff may not even see you to give you preferential treatment due to the crowds so plan ahead.

if you are checking in a buggy, and you are transiting and will need it in your transit airport- IMPORTANT!!! Make sure you let the check in staff know you will need it in your transit location ( there is a special tag that lets the ground staff know it needs to be returned to the plane doors at the transit hub - because they can collect it from you and the next time you will see it is at your final destination! very very annoying!!!

allow extra time for travel, and clearing security, because of the food you are carrying, they will check, swab and scrutinise, EVERYTHING. if you dont leave enough time you can miss your flight!

We use 2 different coolers for her meals...
She is still messy wt food so this kinda compartment plated nor go work for us... Maybe when she is much older.
Check lushluxurykids or rubifor_your_home on IG, seen those portion plates on their pages b4.

Breakfast - Pap, AS food... I'm tryna introduce bread n tea as a breakfast option sha, since she likes both and presently takes them inbetween meals

Snack - bread, biscuits, fried plantain, banana, apple, boiled egg

Drinks - ribena, tea, water

Early Lunch - rice+stew, jollof rice, beans+yam, beans+plantain, plain beans+mashed titus fish, plantain+stew, jollof spaghetti, any other cooked meal option is fine.
I use either liver, beef or fish to support her meals. I cut them up into tiny cubes dt she can chew easily. For the fish, i debone and break into flakes.

Late lunch - cereal (cerelac or nutribom). I pack 2 types of cereal (sometimes she eats both b4 5.30pm and sometimes she has just 1, depending on how hungry she gets that day)

Dinner - she loves eba and we don't take it t school, so it's mostly had as dinner. She also eats whatever I am having for dinner wt me. (last nyt we had boiled yam+fried egg)
On days when I'm too tired to make dinner, if she has remaining cereal from school, she has that for dinner.

hello everyone,

So we all know we get the question every week, on what to feed to babies just being introduced to solids. over the last 3 or so years i have been on NL, there has been a mountain of recipes and tips shared.

Understandably it can be hard to search back for items on NL and it is a bit tedious re-typing when you know you have done an epistle of 20 recipes sometime last year. so to kind of ease things off I have started a baby food / weaning/ introducing solid thread. this is for recipes and food related ideas for babies 6 months plus.

Please feel free to quote and paste links to any food recipes you have saved from this newborn thread, other threads or even websites .

Let us use it as an archive for all our food ideas and a resource to help new parents that are navigating the road to weaning.

Link is below:

shey una see say i don change.... no too much write write.

Thanks and God Bless

have a fantastic friday and a great weekend ahead
