kelizosuy: Please give ibuprofen after food and not on an empty stomach. Even milk and cheese balls is fine as a meal. You could also alternate ibuprofen and paracetamol, to ensure you do not overdose on any one. For example, if you give ibruprofen every 8 hours.., after 6 hours it may seem to have worn off, rather than give another dose as you may be tempted to and are then likely to give more than the 3 times in 24 hrs, you can give paracetamol. This will then push the next ibuprofen dose to sometime around 10 hrs after the first. You can also time the ibuprofen to be given just before bed after her milk or meal so you can have a longer spell of calm at night for you to get some rest as well. The you can give paracetamol sometime in the early hours if the temperature is still there. If you see she picks up in between the doses of ibuprofen or pcm, try and sneak in a meal or snack before the crankiness returns. Pele, may she get well soon! 2 Likes 8 Shares |

Giddyperson: Ha ha ha ! Aya Money doubler! I do not have a kids account, I haven't really considered it. We have life and critical illness insurance. In fact the life insurance sef I am looking to maximise it to the most ridiculous payout I can afford! We have also being talking of getting our wills in place, however we haven't gotten around to doing it. We also have an amount of money that is being ringfenced for general investments now to build up funds for future school fees, housing etc.. Note dd is only 2 and will not be starting proper school till sometime in 2020. Essentially I think it maybe a good idea if there is a tendency to dip your fingers into your savings every now and then. Kids accounts offers you with a solution that puts some restriction on chopping into the funds. However also my logic is if the kids cannot access the funds till they are a certain age, God forbid something happens to the parents before then, does it really help them will they then wait till they are old enough to access the accounts before they can go on will their lives..... Having trusted executors/trustees that can access parents accounts in the event of death where the kids are still underage and can disburse funds for fees and upkeep is my own logic Sounds grim but practical! However different strokes for different folks. 3 Likes |

Thegoodlife300: Kemdi04: Whilst it is not ideal, I would suggest making sure you take a car seat with you and ensure baby is strapped properly in. Also note: Babies that young should not be in a car seat for so long. The guidance is as below: "You just don't want them sleeping for more than two hours in the same position) If you're travelling on a long car journey, stop for a little bit and take your baby out of the car seat. If you're using a travel system, don't keep your baby in the car seat for more than the two hours." Make sure you allow for regular stops to get baby out of the car seat. It also allows you to breast or bottle feed, change nappy etc. While the car is stationary If you are going in a private car, this should be manageable. Things to consider if you are taking public transport: pay for an additional seat that you can strap the car seat to. Ensure that the seat has a fully functional seatbelt. With no wear and tear or slacks. Negotiate with the driver at the start to stop at regular intervals to allow you get baby out of car seat, feed and change. Prepare to apologise to the passengers as well, be cause you can easily add an extra hour or more to the journey with all the stops. Final and most important is do you really wanna take a fresh outta the womb baby without any immunisation or vaccinations? Please weigh the risk of exposure you are giving the baby to the "emergency" that is making you travel. My dears as for me, only war or fear of death will make me travel with a baby so young on public transport. Also As a paranoid parent, I will suggest you have a travel companion, that way if you need to go pee for instance in all the dodgy road side joints or filling stations, you do not have to leave your baby with a complete stranger you know not what germs they are carrying, and come back to see them carrying the baby only to say "Ah Sisi, he was crying" Just my thoughts. All the best. 8 Likes |

iwuoahsamuels: Personally I believe how you take care of your skin during pregnancy will affect your recovery. Ensure at these late stages where tummy size can increase dramatically in just a week or even a few days that you moisturize religiously, and keep the skin supple. as moisturizing helps the elasticity and collagen production. Shea butter, and raw cocoa butter mixed with coconut oil was my staple body cream for belly, boobs and bum at least twice a day and any time my belly felt itchy. As another mama has mentioned how you give birth will also determine what you can and can't do. Some people swear by belts and tying. For some it is doesn't do anything in terms of actual tummy reduction. just as body magic or spanx will make one look like a gazelle when you wear it, once you take it off, the orangutan inside will reveal itself gloriously. That is my personal take on it though Others will chook mouth and disagree I am sure. There is also a huge market for post partum belts so there may be so truth to it, but I am a long way from getting sold on this one. Some people swear by hot water massage. I can see some benefits to it but it is the plucking chicken level of hotness I can't understand. That is just too much torture for me. A warm water tummy massage helped me with soreness for the first few days. But I was to lazy to continue. I resorted to using a hot water bottle on my tummy instead. That way you can increase the number of towels or wrappers you use when it is still very scalding hot. That was my own oyinbo rendition. Breast feeding helps in the contraction of the uterus and it does seem to help reduce the tummy size Since you are a disciplined eater it should also help that you are not loading up on unhealthy fatty foods, however, breast feeding takes a lot from you So no diets per say if doing exclusive or you can pass out! Exercises also help to tone the muscles, when you start and what you can do will be determined by the method with which you give birth. Finally genetics play a major role as well. So that needs to be factored in. If you are predisposed to storing belly fat ( I.e if when you gain weight usually, your tummy is the first place to increase), or have loose skin ( not sure this is the right description but some people although not fat their skin tend to be very soft and jiggles - I.e no muscle tone or firmness ) it may be harder to snap back to pre-pregnancy belly. Looking forward to formally welcoming you to the thread when baby arrives. 9 Likes 3 Shares |

rvpbae: Follow on milk aka formular from 6 months. I introduced aptamil at 7 months up till them it was breast milk. the follow on milk is usually tagged as a number 2 or stage 2. So which ever brand you get, be it Aptamil, SMA, Enfamil, Similac, NAN, or other will have a 2 somewhere on the pack. You can make your choice based on budget and how your baby tolerates it. Different people have different experiences so don't buy a carton to start with especially if your baby has been EBF since birth. From 1 yrs There are some stage 3 milks for toddlers but all you really need is Normal whole / full cream milk from 1 yr old. This is because at that age, milk should no longer be your child's main source of nutrition as they should be eating a reasonable amount of varied solid food. These are also more expensive than your normal can of milk, as they are fortified with a whole range of vitamins and minerals however it may be cheaper to get a separate toddler multivitamin syrup and use your normal milk when your baby turns one. That way you don't have to be buying separate milk for different people in the house. I typically use Nido, I just upped the can size. But mamas will suggest other full cream powdered variety. As I understand there is a filled cream option which is different from the full cream milk. Me, I can never find NL posts when I want to. not sure what I am not doing right , so have stopped sharing oh jare,! I just copy the post and save on my notepad on my phone. 3 Likes 11 Shares |

jazzyjazz: You can't really force it, you just have to keep offering. Ask him what he wants or if he wants what you are offering, everyone has moods of what they want. If he says yes- give and see if he will take it. If no - don't stress. I usually tend to put snacks in a bowl with a bottle of milk and drop it on a stool or on the floor, and just let my Dd know it is there. You will be surprised one day he will bring empty plate back to you and ask for more. Children have a weird sense of what they think is being independent. Pele this motherhood na trial and error! 2 Likes |

Giddyperson: do you cook the apples whilst puree-ing? A squeeze of lemon to the cooked apple puree should help stabilize it. I know for raw apples you can rub with citrus juice -typically lemon or limes to stop oxidisation. , but i tend to use orange juice for raw apples for babies. purely for the taste. |

ftmum: Finger foods! Give him food he can feed himself. Basically anything you can cut up into toddler hand held sizes and and is soft enough that he will be able to chew or get squashed by their gums. - Boiled carrot pieces. - Chunky potato chips or wedges. - Bread or toast cut into strips. - Biscuits and cookies, - Cheese puffs or All Those flavoured puffs fro babies - Yam - boiled for even fried. - Dodo - Boils plantain - firm ripe ones. - Boiled eggs - quartered. - sliced fried eggs - Hoops (cereal) - Fish fingers - Chicken nuggets -Puff puff. - do not underestimate the power of hot puff puff! (Alphababy has been struggling puff puff with me at parties since 9 months even me i shock!) - Sliced banana. - Sliced pancakes - Sliced mango pieces - Sliced apples - Sliced or diced avocado pieces. - Tangerines slices - remove the seeds - Watermelon slices - remove the seeds - Sliced paw-paw - although be careful with this as paw paw seems to make some people poop! - Corn on the cob - don't worry he will eat it like say na rat chop am, and you will vex small that he wasted your sweet corn. - Chicken wings or drumsticks - He is an African child, inside inside he is a meat lover! For wings remove the tips and divide the other parts at the joint. This will help him understand there are more textures and flavours to explore. Gradually you will see changes. Do not be scared of the mess, because that is one of the things what makes us hesitate to introduce self fed foods to our babies. Also offer him from what you are eating as long as it is not too spicy. Let him sit that the table with you and dad at least once a day probably at dinner time. Even if he has eaten, put a plate with some snacks for him or a bit of what you are eating, offer him spoon sef. Afterwards everybody will go and baff! Finally always make sure he is supervised when eating. All the best. 20 Likes 30 Shares |

Giddyperson: As JGracious said, that lunch box may not be ideal. Bread and okra with pineapple is not a great combo. I would suggest using individual bowls or flasks for each meal. And even labeled sef That way it is also a bit idiot proof. You can then pop all into a bigger insulated bag. At that age we were doing 4 -5 meals a day, still on a similar routine now as well. Breakfast : keep it simple - cereal of your choice, you can dry mix with powdered milk and they add water when they want to give her. Just be varying it. Also remember that they can now take normal adult cereals. A few are: rice cripsies, weetabix, shredies, normal cornflakes( crush to make the pieces smaller) hoops and Quaker oats. Mid morning snack : one or two of maybe some fruit bread slices, or mini sandwiches, boiled egg, vegetable pieces like boiled carrot sticks, cucumber slices, quarter or half and avocado ( depending on size - cut in half and rub the exposed edges with lemon juice to stop discoloration then wrap in cling film), quarter to half a cob of boiled corn ( depending on the size) Lunch : this can be anything usually a hot or warm meal such as: rice, potatoes, plantain (boiled or fried), pasta and sauce in all forms, yam, swallow and soup, moin-moin and pap, sausages, meatballs, fish fingers, chicken nuggets. Afternoon snack : similar to the morning snack with a different selection of fruit from the morning. , or even things like sausage rolls, or meat pies, muffins, cupcakes( no icing) can be included. Especially if you make them yourself then you can adjust the sugar, salt and fat contents. Dinner : usually when you get home. Just work around what you are making for the adults to keep it simple. For fruits please remember to prepare at home and cut to the appropriate size where possible especially for grapes and the like..... as I said before, idiot proof as much as possible. Cereals like hoops are great as snacks as well well as the chicken nuggets and fish fingers. For drinks I only gave water or milk. You may also vary with the tiniest bit of milo or the like to just change the milk taste and colour, but NO juice or juice drinks. Good luck. 15 Likes 35 Shares |

Akorkor: He he he @ slay mama! I agree with Oga oh! Whilst it's nice to have child bed, it means you have to change it at least a couple of times as they grow! From cot bed to toddler bed, to junior bed, before you graduate to normal length bed, either single or double! Who gats time for that! 1 good bed frame will last a life time, and a very good mattress should last about 8 yrs before you need to change it. Your options could be to go for a normal single bed so they can have their own territories especially if they are sharing a room. And also all those fancy character bedsheets are easier to find in single bed sizes. You can do bunk beds? Also in single size especially if the room is a bit small. You can do a double bed if they have separate rooms at least that way if say grandma or other guests come around and there is no extra spare room, then the vacating party can have a big bed to share with sibling. You can get it nicely made in timber and painted either white or in a nice colour to suite the room decor. A very good carpenter can make the frame a bit fancy if you wanna jazz it up or make a custom headboard. Those are my thoughts. Hope it's useful! zimunachimdi: If he is ready, just go straight to pants for daytime. I personally believe, you need to let them wet themselves a few times then they start getting aware of the feeling of wanting to pee or poo. If he already gives signal of when he wants to poop then your work is half done. If he hasn't, get pull ups and focus on poop first. When you see he is about to poop, go put him on the toilet, after a while he will start telling you. It will be hit and miss sometimes, When you are confident that you are doing 100% or at least 90% of the poops in the potty or toilet you can then bite the bullet and go nappy free. Pick a weekend you are free, no weddings or plenty waka, Wear patience like an amour. Keep repeating and asking, do you want to pee, and take him to the toilet 30 mins after the each change, if he didn't pee, reduce it to every 15 mins. He will still pee on himself like 5 seconds after you leave the toilet but remember he is the light of your eyes! And you love him unconditionally! After a few days of doing this, the accidents will reduce. Alternatively for days that you want to go to church or go out, you still have to be consistent, get pull-ups as it will give you peace of mind in case of accidents. And it is easier to pull down and back on, and it will teach him how normal pants work. But you still need to be consistent and keep asking reminding and taking him to the loo at every opportunity. For night time you will still need nappies As normal. Either the taped nappies or pull-ups style. The below is not essential but it has helped me be consistent whether at home or out and about: Personally I even have a mobile toilet seat I carry around with me. Dangling a 15kg child over a dodgy public toilet seat is not a funny something. I also carry about flushable moist toilet tissue pack - dry tissue cannot work sometimes and it is not everywhere that you can get water for a rinse. and a small hand towel - those electric dryers used to scare my dd. So we carry our own hand towel. We put all of this into a small carry bag. Hope this helps. 15 Likes 9 Shares |

Jessie21: Please Go and see an ENT specialist ( Ear, Nose, and Throat) could be an ear infection, have you had a cold or flu recently sometimes, your ears could get affected due to a cold. I do not think your midwife SHOULD be prescribing medication other than paracetamol and the odd vitamins. Ampliclox is an antibiotic and it should be taken as a proper dose or you run the risk of having a bacterial resistance which can lead to a worse off and harder to treat infection if the antibiotics are not taken properly and completed. If you do not know any ENT specialist, please go see your doctor and he may refer you to one. 1 Like |
