I know. I have 4 girlfriends that are hookup girls, although I don't know about that spending money on the guy part. I always insist on STD testing though, although they seem to have that part under control(I think a lot of them don't play around with that).

Black men don't read?

I wouldn't go to far with this generalization. In general, people that find themselves in impoverished conditions(which unfortunately most blacks find themselves in) would put the education and pursuit of information low in their list of priorities, the main question here is than are blacks generally impoverished because that is the condition that their nature puts them in(in which case, any solution that does not involve some sort of gene therapy/modification for increased intelligence is doomed to fail), or is it because of societal forces that conspire to keep the black man in an impoverished state? If the second argument seems unconvincing, remember that while great Mediterranean civilizations produced marvelous works in sciences, arts, engineering, philosophy and many other intellectual pursuit that northern Europeans were still living in abject ignorance, pretty much what we see in a lot of African villages. When those great civilizations eventually fell, Europe slipped into the dark ages, once again, pretty much what we see in a lot of Africa right now and it took more than1000 years for Europeans to build upon the achievements of their fore-bearers to create the civilizations that we recognize today.

Africa has only been exposed for less than 500 years to the body of knowledge that Europeans were exposed to for more than 1000 years. I hope you are getting my point.

Persephone1:
[i]"Marry a typical Nigerian Man at your own peril"

When I type these words, it's not from a place of hate towards men ( I don't hate anybody) It is from careful analysis of marriages to Nigerian Men which mostly lack genuine love, empathy and kindness. Nigerian Marriages are mostly driven by "needs" and "means" to an end. Too systematic and unnatural and the one with the highest bargaining chip gets the most benefit.

Our mothers didn't teach us enough about Men. They didn't know either until they got married, unfortunately they are still learning about Men too. That is why the popular saying "Ile oko ile eko ni" (Your husband house is a school) is usually the soothing balm to unfavourable experiences a wife has with her husband. One question I always ask myself when I hear these words as parting words of advice for young wife is. Does that mean she is getting married into a strange, unknown and possibly unfavourable world? Why represent her husband as an unending course? And will she ever graduate and be relieved of painful lessons?. Ask these women these questions and they will shake their heads in mockery but the truth is, They weren't taught enough about the Men they are getting married to. How would they when they didn't know who they are either. To understand another person there must be a certain level of self awareness you have reached yourself. This way you have enough level of intelligence to be a perfect judge of character. But when a woman believe all she needs to be is a good cook and good konji reliever then all she will seek is a man who has Kitchen and bed.

Men are the worst in this joke of an institution. Configured to believe all they need to posses is Financial ability to provide. The upbringing of the typical Nigerian Man is very very wrong. Trained with little to no empathy, kindness, self care, sense of belonging, self love but burdened with sense of responsibility brought up like a robot to "provide" only. Most Nigerian men are robotic minded, unable to connect emotionally without aide yet this men are expected to naturally see their brides as a part of themselves. Wishful thinking if you ask me. And when some men luckily achieve this, the society (Men and Women) mock him. Aside this, they don't readily know what they want and are easily tossed by the society.

We create a society devoid of emotional engagement but want the benefits emotions birth. Compassion and affections brings liberty, a man who lacks these will see his wife as his slave and property, he gets to do with her what he seem best and not what is good for her. We really have a long way to go as a Society.

Nigerian Men make terrible horsebands

wow, awesome... you are right and have a strong point
A very compeling piece of idea about Nigerian men... sadly its true but wholistically its myopic.

I am not here to make a CASE for men... i acknowledge your expressed thoughts as reality but as INCOMPLETE.

SEE, MEN ARE NOT LOVED UNCONDITIONALLY... We are only LOVED BY MERIT, RAISED AS HUNTERS TO COMPETE AND PROVIDE else we are not competent.

THE THINGS YOU MENTION WE LACK ARE ACTUALLY NOT LACKING BUT SURPRESSED BY THE HARSH REALITIES OF LIFE WE HAVE LIVED THROUGH....

Let me explain... EVEN on the case of wooing or getting a LADY for sex or marriage... LADIES GENERALLY FEEL SAFER WITH A RICH DUDE, THAN A CARING, EMPATHETIC S.O.B. Whyyy because the COUNTRY IS HARD.... and Ladies think of the FUTURE ALOT.
So after being drilled by our parents to always COME FIRST IN CLASS, and being punished for not coming first or not outdoing others.... we now enter a tetiary institution where only the BEST GRADUANDS are assured of jobs or connections... so we have to compete, hustle for money and do everything possible to be among those who thrive or survive.. AFTER YEARS OF LIVING AS A SURVIVOR.... we now marry, with HOOOOOGEE responsibilities, wife and kids... most likely WIFE HAS NOTHING DOING OR EARNS LITTLE YET FEELS ENTITLED TO BE TREATED LIKE A QUEEN.... Then we should let down our GUARD and still be as caring, as emotionally sensitive, as all that you women want us to be??
C'mon sis... YOU CAN'T HAVE IT ALL.

Marry unambitious men from other countries who are not living in the same terrible conditions we have had in NIGERIA... they have emotions to spare, because THEIR FINANCIAL SYSTEM WORKS and is DEPENDABLE... not here. So you can't come here and GENERALIZE, when majority of your GENDER.... WILL CHOOSE SIX CARS OVER SIX PACKS. Pls... have some balance.

Little wonder why MEN are no longer interested in MARRIAGE... because it has become like an orphanage, so baby mama is now what many opt for, so as to retain their freedom. Ladies wanting EVERYTHING yet offering so little JUST BECAUSE THEY EXIST, is the highest form of lowkey witchcraft ever. grin

ALL MEN ARE NOT THE SAME, ALL WOMEN ARE NOT THE SAME..... MARRIAGE IS NOT FOR EVERYONE..... BUT MONEY IS IMPORTANT TO ALL.

Wait, you actually took the time to read that rubbish? You try oo!

Steel reinforcement are absolutely useless...which school did you go to? What will distribute the load bearings coming from trucks? Please pay attention in school...maybe they shouldn't use steel reinforcemt when building bridges as well. No wonder we have roads that don't last long...because of mindsets like this. There is a reason why we use reinforced steel in buildings specific to the type of buildings you construct. In case you forgot...go back all the way to Young Modulus

The force profile for a bridge is completely different from road supported from underneath by the earth. For slabs of cement used to build roads, the force is almost entirely compressive, whica unreinforced cement blocks can manage without issue, while bridges will typically have much larger force profile, including torsion, sheer and compression, hence necessitating the use of steel reinforcements.

You have misinterpreted my post. The majority of people in those categories in my post are part of the 1% of this country. JAPA doesn't make sense for them. They have a lot to lose in terms of assets, properties, businesses if they emigrate without a plan. If you are part of the middle class and working class, you should emigrate by all means necessary. The middle class and working class are NOT losers. Those doctors, pharmacists, bankers nurses, IT specialists and lawyers leaving the country in drones are NOT losers. In fact, they are the engine of this country but the economy and the economic policies of the last two administrations have not been favorable to this class of people. Nigeria in the long haul is the loser because these aforementioned class of people are what the country needs to thrive.

One more thing, that your 1% estimate of the "over-well-to-do" class is a grossly ridiculous over-estimate. I would start with something like 0.01% and work my way down to arrive at a more accurate figure. It is only when we start including the professional class, middle class that we arrive at something close to or a bit above 1%, the simple fact of the matter is that the overwhelming majority of Nigerians live in compound poverty. To see this(at least for the professional class) is easy. Take the number of students who do well enough in JAMB at secondary school to not only get admitted into a university but also a meaningful course(like Sciences, Engineering, Accounting e.t.c), that figure is actually in the public domain, and it usually doesn't move higher than 5%, now of that 5% take the proportion of students who actually finished their coursework without having to drop out, due to a variety of reasons like lack of money or such unfortunate circumstances -no fault of theirs- or other reasons like stvpidity, drug use, hookups and such -for which the blame can be placed squarely on their shoulders- then we drop another 30% or so from that 5%, giving 3.5%, now of that 3.5%, take the proportion of students that achieved credentials worthy of talking about in a public setting(these are the ones that are most likely to get those very limited jobs) and I suppose, to the result, add a small number to account for those bubble-heads who will make it anyways because "My papa be one kin big politician like that" and such and we arrive at a figure not to far off from 1%.

I suppose that I should have been more qualitative in my response to your post. Certainly, I don't include most of the professional class in my category of losers(also I think you should remove IT specialists from your list because a lot of them now do remote work/freelance, earning $$ and it's hard for me to understand how japa would make their condition better), but then again, what is the percentage of Nigerians that would fit into your list of professionals, who are not losers and for whom "japa" would be advisable? Basically, not enough to vitiate the main point of my response to your initial post

Iron rods basically turn the road into a bridge resting on the ground. That's the purpose.
So the way they put expansion joint on bridges is the way they should put on the road.
And such a road will behave just like a bridge ie, NOT crack.
I don't know if these roads in the pictures had expansion joints. But without iron rods, concrete will crack due to bending forces from moving vehicles.

They didn't have a single expansion joints. Those spacings that you saw were cracks due to damage and not engineered there in any way. Also, for concrete slabs that are simply laying on horizontal ground, those iron rods are unnecessary over-kill. You need them in bridges because bridges have to endure all sorts of forces, including strain, torsion and a host of others.

And a mistake we are making in Nigeria is that we assume cement roads to be maintenance free! No road, be it bitumen, asphalt or concrete is maintenance free. The enemy of any road is still particulate (sand, gravel etc) on the road and pooled water.

A concrete road may need less maintenance, but it doesn't mean zero maintenance.

That is indeed correct. Hopefully they will learn this, be it in the near or distant future.

You sound like an engineer or I presume you to be one. In the concrete pavement construction, there's always expansivity gap between the transverse and longitudinal joints even though I still agree with you that it's in sufficient but it's far better than our current asphalt.

I am an engineer, yes, and you are absolutely correct, there is always expansivity gap between every single block that make up the road, at least the ones that were built by real engineers. You are correct also, cement roads are better and more durable than asphalt roads. Mid-day sun, especially in this part of the world is rich in ionizing radiation like ultra-violet light, while this radiation has relatively negligible effect on concrete it will progressively degrade asphalt, and this of crucial importance because asphalt serves not only as the adhesive but also the "expansivity gap" between the gravel that it is mixed with, and when this asphalt is degraded and the adhesion lost, all you end up with after a while is a road that is made of mostly gravel.

I think you aren't understanding my point. Thermal expansion is what made those roads crack. What a real engineer would have done with cement roads was to build it block-wise with flexible buffer between every block, so that when the blocks expand under the sun they will have somewhere to expand to and not end up breaking. That's probably how they built the road that you're referring to in Accra.

There's iron rods in that one.
Iron rods add reinforcement to make the concrete stronger to take more load.
This one in the picture just looks like only cement without iron rods.
And the cement seems very light, maybe 50mm to 100mm thick. That thing will crack like breakable plate.

Iron rods are actually quite useless when it comes to roads. What made those roads crack was thermal expansion. Under hot sun, the cement will expand, and since it has nowhere to expand to it will develop cracks, no matter how many iron rods that is in it.

The issue here is two fold...no steel reinforcement and the thickness of the concrete road. Concrete is by far better than Bitumen and easily maintained with more cement ...and they need to also limit the loads on our roads.

That is actually quite wrong. For starters, steel reinforcements are absolutely useless when building roads. The main issue here is that the idi0ts that built those roads forgot to take thermal expansion into account, when the sun comes up, that hard cement will expand and crack, and with regular use, completely destroyed in a matter of months. What a real engineer would have done if he wanted to build roads with cement would have been to do it block-wise, putting flexible buffers between each and every block that make up the road to allow for afore-mentioned thermal expansion. In tar roads, it is the tar that serves the dual purpose of adhesive and flexible buffer between the gravel that it is mixed with.

For roads that are less than a year old, it is terrible. Either the contractors used substandard materials, or the project cost was heavily impaired by corrupt practices.

Standard road construction should be used for at least a decade or two before any repair should be initiated. Go and check most of the federal roads constructed in the 70s and 80s, they were still intact and require no require until decades later.

There is a reason why roads are built with tar, and why we need actual civil engineers, who understand the reason why uniform cement will always fail, to build those roads. Even roads that you find that are built with cement will be done block-wise with compressible buffers in-between each block because civil engineers know that objects generally expand when heated. In tar roads, the tar serves the purpose of both adhesive and flexible buffer between the stones that they are mixed with.

I noticed a thread on"10 sets of People Who Shouldn't Travel To The UK". I found it interesting and decided to create my own version. I am an immigration lawyer who just came back from an IBA (International Bar Association) Conference. As a member of the immigration committee, we discuss immigration issues. Immigration is as old as time and inevitable. I don't have issues with Nigerians emigrating for "greener pastures" after all, I did the same thing as a teenager thanks to my folks and encourage many others to do so. What I do have a problem with are the categories of people emigrating abroad to start all over. The list is as follows:

1. Big earners/those who are at the top of their career: It doesn't make sense for someone who earns millions a month to abandon that in the name of JAPA. The chances that you will earn the equivalent to what you are earning in Nigeria is slim. You have to start all over again as no country is going to hire you over their own nationals.

2. People approaching 50 and above. I was insulted some time ago whenI stated that if you must Japa abroad, you should do it when you are young. While there are quite a few over 40s who have been able to re-establish themselves, there many more who have struggled to get back on their feet. The job market is a young person's market.

3. Politicians. These category of people make too much money to desire to move to another country. The system in Nigeria was designed to cater to their very whelms.

4. Small scale/large scale business men. If you have a thriving business, it doesn't make sense abandoning your business just to start over in another country. Don't get me wrong, there are many countries are looking for business men to invest in their economy. In the UK, they fall under the category of investor visas.

If you are a Senior Lawyer, Bank Manager, Senior Surgeon, Senior Chartered Accountant, you are most likely at the peak of your profession in Nigeria and very likely earning a decent amount of money that places you in the elite. It makes no sense for these category of people to emigrate and start all over again.

There you have it. Everybody else has the right to leave the country as it's not working but it doesn't make sense for the above-mentioned class of people to JAPA abroad (at least, outside Africa) as they have a lot to lose.

So in summary, all the successful Nigerians should stay in Nigeria and losers/never-do-wells should japa? This actually sounds like a good idea to me, as this way, we can get rid of the surplus of idi0ts that this shithole has.

promise4040:
Kazakhstan is looking to attract more tourists and boost its tourism sector revenue, which has already attracted $860 million of investments in 2023, up 44% from the same period last year.

According to the Minister of Tourism and Sports Yermek Marzhikpayev, over three million Kazakh citizens travelled within the country in the first half of the year, 400,000 more than last year. He also revealed that the country is looking to attract 9 million domestic tourists and 1.4 million foreign tourists before the end of 2023.

“We need breakthrough projects in the tourism sector,” Marzhikpayev said. “Over the past three years, investments worth $4 billion have been attracted to the industry. More than 400 facilities have been built, and nearly 7,000 permanent jobs have been created.”

Marzhikpayev also stressed the importance of integrating local historical monuments, picturesque natural landscapes, and other historical heritage into tourism products. He also called for simplifying the stay of foreign tourists in Kazakhstan and digitizing the entire range of services for domestic tourism

Nigerians can now enter Kazakhstan without visas.

As part of its efforts to attract more foreign tourists, Kazakhstan has announced that Nigerians will now be able to enter the country without visas for short stays (tourism). However, it is still required to obtain an electronic travel authorization (eTA or eVisa) before entering Kazakhstan.

The eTA is a quick and easy online application process that takes only a few minutes to complete. Nigerians can apply for an eTA on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan.

With the introduction of the eTA, Nigerians can now plan their trips to Kazakhstan with more confidence and ease. This is a positive development for both countries, as it will promote tourism and cultural exchange.
