Just like we asked for flyovers in Owerri to make Owerri look like a big city. We thought flyovers are mark of big city.

Many villagers asking for high rise buildings in Owerri don’t even have common pipe borne water in their villages, outside Owerri, no good roads, no businesses, nothing in their villages.

High rise buildings need constant electricity to operate. And what businesses shall rent the high rise buildings? Those asking for high rise buildings in Owerri, set the first example with your money.

Money to buy SUV, build mansion and ride young pretty girls. That’s driving the hyper corruption in Nigeria.

Nigeria government pays university lecturers but the lecturers even leave lectures and go to Cotonou for extra lectures.


Nigeria’s government employs and pays medical doctors but the doctors use government hospital to divert patients to their private clinics.

Why would Owerri be the fastest developing state capital in the East? Industries and government tertiary education institutions in a place are the greatest inducers of rapid development and urban expansion in the place.

There’s hardly any one industry in Owerri which attracts population to Owerri.

Simple truth: development of Owerri is due to Owerri people seizing all institutions of government that should have been spread to the three senatorial districts in Imo state for only Owerri senatorial district during military administration.

Nd’Imo sabotaged and killed their own university teaching hospital immediately after the governor who started it left office because the hospital was not established in the state capital.

In other states in the east, government institutions of development are spread in the senatorial districts.

But in Imo state, government institutions of development must be in the state capital, or be sabotaged to death if it’s outside Owerri zone.

The whole purpose of dividing a state into senatorial districts for even development was killed in Imo state due to primitive greed in a section of Imo state.

But Imo needs the grant more than others, as former governor Okorocha spent loads of State funds on building federal projects in Eight years in state capital.

The center and heart of Igbo land is Orlu.
Orlu is the last congregation of Igbos during the civil war which ended in Orlu.

If you don’t want to accord Orlu what it deserves, that’s your own; but many Igbos respect Orlu people for their non-aggressive character.
And the non-aggressive character of Orlu people is the reason why Orlu lacks the government institutions of development, now clustered in Owerri in Imo state.

When they created Ebonyi state as the 5th state in the southeast was when Njaba state was supposed to have been created as 6th state for the SE.

Imo state has not been fine as one state, who does not see it? Even the unending election problems in Imo state as well as restricting government institutions of development in one part of the state is enough evidence about dysfunctional state.

Former governor Achike Udenwa of Imo state from Orlu senatorial district, and former governor Chinwoke Mbadinuju of Anambra state from Anambra South senatorial district - both and other players from the two senatorial districts of Imo and Anambra states proposed and signed the documents for the proposed Njaba state.


The state would have been in existence since 2007 if not for Arthur Nzeribe who brought his political problems with Udenwa into the matter after north and southwest agreed to creation of Njaba state through a nationwide consensus obtained by the senate after touring all parts of Nigeria.

Check history pages. A sixth state - Njaba - would have been in the southeast since 2007, If not for Arthur Nzeribe’s political dispute with then Imo state governor Udenwa from Orlu.

Republic of Bini (ROB) was created by Biafra soldiers who marched pass Old Bini kingdom with no resistance.
When Biafra soldiers were sabotaged at Ore and pushed back to the east, the Government of ROB left Benin and moved to exile into Biafra and ended up in Orlu long after the civil war. Enuani, not even Agbor was included in the ROB.

Owerri-Uratta group with its dialect has a lot more with Ikwerre than any of Okigwe or Orlu senatorial zones in Imo state.

That explains why Owerri-Uratta group cornered practically all institutions of government that induce development in Imo state for Owerri-Uratta area during the military era; on return to civil rule, the group has fought every former governor of Imo state who wanted to redistribute the institutions, even till today. 6 government universities and polytechnics in Imo state all in Owerri-Uratta area - nothing in rest of Imo state.

Orlu and Okigwe senatorial districts have made all efforts to be detached from Imo state.

This area is Orlu- gedegwum town(Ishiobiuwku) starting from the local govt office at Enugu road down to Eluama and Abor village bordered by Amike Town . I wrote about them in my thread on the origin of the Orlu nomenclature. People from this place find it hard to tell outsiders even in Orlu LGA that they are from Orlu Town. They will always be asked what part of Orlu. Lol

Their dialects are also almost the same with Orsu, Orlu and Oru which are border LGAs in Imo state. A lot of kith and kins were separated while states were being apportioned. For example, Orsumoghu in Anambra and Umuhuokabia(Lazarus Mouka community) in Imo states are brothers same as isseke - Ibiasiegbe -Amorka, Ubulu yet partitionrd into different states.

The zone called Orlu doesn't have one single place that is referred to as it's town/city, similar to Aba, Owerri, or Onitsha. If yes, then tell us where this town/city is.

The area where Holy Trinity Catholic Cathedral, Bishop Shanahan College, Ojike Memorial Secondary School, Girls Secondary School, Imopoly campus are - that’s the area known as Orlu town.

But you will not know when you move from Orlu town to neighboring Umuna, Amaifeke and Mgbee that are all parts of Orlu urban LGA.

You want to compare Orlu with Awka and Abakiliki? Orlu na my area oo, but the truth has to be ssid... Orlu has no city plan! No integrated water projects and no economic master plan! I don't know what my people get hyping our struggling town. Our predicament started with Dee Mbakwe. A very visionary leader who as was typical of the time, had a serious grouse with Orlu because the then opposition leader was from Orlu zone. In fact NPN had it's opposition base at Orlu, so Mbakwe and his NPP focused more on Owerri, Aba and umuuahia. Thosexareas were pro NPP.. The military didn't help. Since 1999, Orlu has been producing most of the governors; Udenwa, Rochas and Uzodinmma the incumbent. Yet, these guys seem to be more interested in enjoying the enchanting life of Owerri. None of them has been able to provide a solid master plan to modernise the city. Rochas tried but he lacked tact. Orlu is just like Nnewi, just that Nnewi has got more serious commercial activities going on..

Even the city plan with many urban roads started in Orlu and embraced by an outsider former governor of Imo state from Bende, Amadi Ikwechegh, no governor from Orlu zone continued from where Ikwechegh stopped.

The urban roads and drainage project started and not completed by Ikwechegh lay in ruins today.
