RomanceRe: Use Of Endearments by amsky(m): 12:02pm On Feb 19, 2008
I'd rather not use such terms, especially if these people are strangers. The ones to which such terms are directed, could get a wrong message. It happened to my husband. He had a habit of calling people(ladies) sweetie and all that.A lady in his office took it seriously and started sending him mails that ended with ''your sweetie''. You can now imagine how that ended.

Bottom line-i'll reserve such terms for the ones who are dear to me. kiss
FamilyRe: 23, Getting Married Soon by amsky(m): 10:07pm On Feb 18, 2008
I'm not so sure about this. There's no harm in marrying early, but there'll be alot of trouble if you marry early for the wrong reasons. If you are getting married because you really love the lady in question, then all well and good;but if you are doing this simply because she proposed, then brace up for the storm ahead dear.

You did not mention any such thing as love in your post, and that has set me thinking. My dear, use your tongue to count your teeth.

goodluck.
RomanceRe: My Love, I Am Sorry. Pls Forgive Me. by amsky(m): 9:58pm On Feb 18, 2008
Ola,what have you seen in this post that we have not all seen? Please tell us. You know some of us are not good in reading b/w lines. If you draw our attention to this hidden thing you have seen, who knows we may be better positioned to help her out.
CultureRe: Raising Children by amsky(m): 5:55pm On Feb 18, 2008
Yes, Almondjoy is right there. For me,i'll choose the most favourable place to raise my children. wherever.Let's leave out sentiments here.

One thing i miss about raising my kids in Nigeria is this'' respect'' thing. It's not the same here. I really dont have much of a problem with it,cos i do my best to teach him.

London is not really the best place to raise kids-if i had the oppurtuinity,i'll move out of London. But Nigeria, I'm not too sure about that. The way Nigeria is now,i'll not be going back there with my children.

RomanceRe: My Love, I Am Sorry. Pls Forgive Me. by amsky(m): 4:29pm On Feb 18, 2008
Cream dream abi what. Is this post for youhuh?

Poster, pls take it easy okay. I hope this guy will not flare up after reading this. Just calm down. No more unprotected sex after now otherwise, you'll actually get preggy.

@ Olanajim
it may not be a joke. She may be feeling so emotionally broken that she had to type this semblance of Paul's letter to the corinthians smiley. If your wife or girlfriend does that, pls forgive her. Women are often pushed to the wall, and when they think they have nobody to talk to,they resort to all sorts. My neighbour came to me with her 17yrs of woe in marriage. You know how oyibos are;so on their own and only waving occassionaly. When she told me she wanted to talk,i thought my son had broken their window with his ball. She opened her heart to my husband and i. This woman has been married for 17yrs.Far longer than i have been. So ola, please forgive. This is not meant to entertainment. smiley
FamilyRe: Should A Man Be Involved In House Chores? by amsky(m): 2:27pm On Feb 18, 2008
Yes a man should be involved in chores now. In Nigeria most guys frown when you call them to help you do a bit around the house. But here,it's done more willingly. My hubby bathes my older child, and feeds them both most of the time. He picks up after himself too. cheesy
I'm so sure if Nigeria, that would not have been the case. It also brings a couple close too-i think. When you are in the kitchen together,or bathing and dressing the kids together and all of that.

Sometimes too,he JUST has to do it otherwise, hunger go tear im belle grin
HealthRe: Is There Anything That Can Be Done To Improve Your Memory? by amsky(m): 2:14pm On Feb 18, 2008
Go get some gingko biloba. It's prescribed here in alternative medicine and some orthodox pills have got a bit of it too.

CareerRe: Suffering And Smiling: by amsky(m): 6:38pm On Feb 17, 2008
It must change o walai. That money is toooooo small for take home pay. Imagine if she were a guy with a family to fend for? No matter how bad it is here,it's far better than 9ja o. Even after the whooping tax sum in this place there is still something left to care for soul and body. Maybe it's just the basic salary excluding all the allowances. Please this is disheartening. That is the reason why guys are willing to cross the sahara dessert to get to Europe. sad

My dear poster, what are your qualifications? please get a better job. I can imagine what a tight budget you are working on monthly, It'll be hard for alot of us out here to imagine going back and getting 35k as monthly salary. shocked

Please,we have to do something about it o. All hope is not lost anyway, 9ja go better. kiss kiss
CareerRe: Suffering And Smiling: by amsky(m): 2:36pm On Feb 17, 2008
You have drawn my attention to something i had earlier missed.Did she say 35khuh Na wa o.35k for a senior staff?

It's hard to believe my dear, but as sweet t said, keep hope alive yeah. kiss E go better. grin
TravelRe: Thinking Of Relocating To Canada. by amsky(m): 4:49pm On Feb 16, 2008
Thanks again. smiley
Yeah.Transportation is a bit up there in the UK too. Child minding is very expensive here.I have two kids.I pay the minder £450 for the older one and £550 for the baby monthly. My paycheck finishes any month i decide to relieve my husband of this fee. We know the worth of a good education, and so my son attends a good school with a 'good sum' too. We pay £900 monthly as school fees. This is aside from the minder's charge o! Mortgage is £1300.When my husband gets posted back to 9ja,i'm thinking we'd have to find a 'better' place grin.because my brother £1300 na better money. Let me not even talk of MOT and all the orisirisi.
My question is-is there no way one can live the same quality of life without paying soooooooo much for it? My little sister is coming here soon for her masters and the sum of £9700 is staring us in the face shocked. Na wa o!!!! If it's better in Canada,we may retrace our steps and have her study there. I need to save alot more monthly, and it's hardly happening here, honestly. If we can achieve that in Canada, then Canada, here i come!!!!!
TravelRe: Thinking Of Relocating To Canada. by amsky(m): 6:21pm On Feb 15, 2008
Delta!!!!! I hail o!!
why are you scaring me now? eh? i'm looking for a way to evade the horrible tax here and you are telling me it's the same in Canada? I dont know what to say now, honestly. As for the weather,i think we can live with that. It's often terrible here for me. Unless you are telling me it's like being in the north pole. Is it that bad?
pls educate me.I'm open to advice. Where exactly do you reside? is the tax up to 40%?

Thank you so much. You have woken me up from my slumber.I thought Canada was a paradise of some sorts. How is the healthcare system there? will keep coming back,so expect me.
CareerRe: Area Of Specialisation by amsky(m): 2:12pm On Feb 15, 2008
I'm loving this! cheesy cheesy
@poster
you asked a question didn't you? you are getting replies,so why are you flying off the hook?

You have not graduated from what i gather. So why do you have to bother so soon about an MSC? Since you have a lab, what else do you want? Having a lab means you can also be an employer.
Getting an MSC soon after is really not ideal, especially if you do not know what you want to specialise in. You had better sit down, put on your thinking cap,and hold very crucial discussions with your older siblings if any. You may not get this on nairaland. This is your future too you know,so it'll pay off better if you are not in much of a hurry. I made lots of money over here without a master's degree you know. It's the same for lots of people too.
It's not just paper qualification that counts. That hardly counts anymore. Digest your first degree before you leap into another. If you want to be a lecturer, then you can even go for PHD after this.Degrees are gloated over if you want to venture into lecturing or any other academic field.

Henry,is this how you want to do the journalismhuhhuhhuh?? I'm sooo scared shocked what kind of school do you attend and in what language are you taught? Are you sure you are in SS3? There's fire on the mountain o. You better go and have private classes for your own good. How are you going to take TOEFL with such poor grammar if you want to school outside Nigeria?

What do you mean by''i love journalist''? Is that how it is spoken in CNN & BBC? Hehehehe

My dear please, sit up. Go and bury your head in your books!!!You need it more than anything else. Finito.
TravelRe: Thinking Of Relocating To Canada. by amsky(m): 7:08pm On Feb 14, 2008
Ezi thanks so much.I'll leave London at the drop of a hat. One can hardly save anything substantial over here. As for nigerian community,i'll give anything to have that. I'll keep asking questions as they strike me. How did you get there ezi? Did you do the immigration thing also?

Shapey is really ill and has not been able to log on here for a while now.All the same,i'll let her know as soon as i can.

Thank you so much, and have a goodevening. kiss kiss

CareerRe: Suffering And Smiling: by amsky(m): 11:44am On Feb 13, 2008
Gentledove,i feel your pain dear.Just dont worry, things will get better.
Most employers are slave riders, not just in Nigeria.I remember my first job.I wanted to do goody goody, they turned me into their slave. My husband had to type my resignation letter for me.

About the monetary aspect of it,it happens too.40% of my pay is taken off monthly in the name of tax. sad. It's sad, but life goes on. No matter how much you earn, there's still alot to do.Have you thought of getting a new job? you may also do a little business on the side to keep things going. me,i used to braid hair when my job afforded me some extra time. That was before my husband was posted here. Now i can't even dream of it.

I go better. All the best. kiss
NYSCRe: Is Nysc A Waste Of Time? by amsky(m): 11:33am On Feb 13, 2008
NYSC in my opinion is USELESS. I wonder the person that woke up on the wrong side of his bed and envisaged such rubbish. People just use it to misappropriate funds, especially the officials.

I only went to my camp on the opening day, registered, went back home, planned my trip to England, and was monitoring my thing from there.I came back 3days to passing out, collected my certificate, and went to continue life!!!!

It is useless, and no child of mine will EVER know that such a thing exists. It's one big gimmick by those people to steal more money. angry angry
CareerRe: Please I Need Help On My Carrer, Please Help Me Out Here! by amsky(m): 11:14am On Feb 13, 2008
Almondjoy thanks for this kind advice abeg.

@poster

You see, inasmuch as there are big jokers(like myself) on nairaland, there are also big brothers and sisters here too. NOw to my point, Nigeria is a very very very tough place.People with PG degrees in various ''SERIOUS'' fields have not found jobs and are still posting CV from one place to the other. Now my dear,as a young man, there are so many other things to consider. Sometimes one has to put one's dream and ''calling'' by the side in order to make a headway. Being a DJ CANNOT put food on the table neither will it pay your bills or send your kids to GOOD Mark my words GOOD schools.

This can be a hobby as you have been told. I sought a job in my chosen field(modern languages) in Nigeria for a long time after graduation. I had to run out here to keep my sanity O!!!!! Journalism-maybe,but DJ or presenter, I'm not sure of that. I know three of them who had other jobs-two were lecturers. In the present day Nigeria, my dear,i'll not aadvice that.

Think of something else. You are still so young.anyone, and i mean anuone can be a DJ;even my son gives me good music sometimes too grin. Aspire higher-that way you'll excel. kiss

All the best.
