PoliticsRe: Tinubu Orders Emergency Meeting On Food Security As He Returns From France by Anatolia: 6:27pm On Feb 07, 2024
Tinubu defenders like mocking others forgetting that as his wicked economic policies begin to bite hard everyone will suffer including those that voted for him.
PoliticsRe: Tinubu Orders Emergency Meeting On Food Security As He Returns From France by Anatolia: 6:25pm On Feb 07, 2024
The only idea Tinubu has is how to collect revenue from the poor Nigerians. Since he is a loud mouth, empty drum that makes the loudest noise. He will continue to promise assistance to Nigerians but will instead inflict more punishment.

Have I denied that? No

Is Obi better? No

Have I always advocate for revolution as the only way out of this mess? Big YES

They are all the same and as such I won't blame anyone for biasedly supporting any of them till we are all already to flush them out of the system.

For the records, Tinubu performed better as governor than Obi.

All you are seeing today are accumulated problems and it keeps getting worse. Next government after Tinubu will be condemned and hail Tinubu as being better just as Buhari is currently being praised. It's a rotten system all over. Don't be deceived.
How old were you when Tinubu was the governor? Mention 5 achievements of Tinubu as a governor.

Don't jump into the middle of a matter and conclude from there. Start from the beginning. Read what he wrote first and reply justly.

My comment is a proportionate and appropriate reaction to his action.
His response might be annoying to you but wishing an entire tribe from a different part of Nigeria death wish because of the annoying response of a single individual or set of individuals is unjustifiable. I do not think most members of his tribe would agree to his viewpoint. So limit your anger to him and not his father or tribe.

You're just delusional. Nigeria is no match for south Africa in anything positive. You attribute the development to the whites, whose fault is it? Why didn't whites find your country palatable.

Nigeria that can't provide something as basic as electricity. A country of over two hundred people generating less than 4,000MW of electricity.

Shame! Shame!! Shame!!!

In negatives you exceed us. Raping little kids, HIV infections, women homicides, illiteracy, inferiority complex , killing fellow Africans. You guys should be ashamed of yourselves as self-hating Africans filled with bile.

Shaaaaaame.

Omotola was really young when she started acting and she was really beautiful. So she might be right and I don’t see what she will gain from overstating her age.

Let them go and develop their lands instead of causing nuisance wherever they go. They could all jump into the lagoon today and nobody will know that anything happen.

You are filled with hatred and bile. May God have mercy on you. Look at how vicious you are abusing someone’s father and wishing everyone of a particular tribe. Do you know the exact tribe he is from?

These are fake economists with flowery words. They always ask people to bear what they cannot tolerate, hypocrites! Can he afford to do way with all his luxury? What does he mean by the naira will find its fair value? How will it find the fair value? What if the fair value is 10,000 naira to one dollar, is that fair on Nigerians. He is saying this because he has huge stash of dollars and so will not be affected by the tough days.
PoliticsRe: Hard Times Over Soon – Remi Tinubu Tells Nigerians by Anatolia: 4:25pm On Feb 06, 2024
aviara:
I don't see the hardship ending anytime soon because Tinubu is driven by a passion to increase revenue generation and this is a recipe for hardship. This is because more money in the hands of govt through taxes means less money in the hands of citizens. Less money in the hands of citizens will negatively affect the consumption power which will also affect businesses.
To end hardship, the govt must come up with economic policies that can stimulate the economy, increase the consumption capacity of citizens and provide investment fund for small and medium scale businesses.
He is increasing revenue but no positive impact on the people. The revenue is for him to lavishly spend on himself.
PoliticsRe: Hard Times Over Soon – Remi Tinubu Tells Nigerians by Anatolia: 4:22pm On Feb 06, 2024

Erm, pardon?

We are actually paying off debts.

(I know you want subsidy back, but we are paying too much debt to pay for it. )

If we were not paying debt, there would have been enough for subsides.
I checked again you are right. The problem is which sensible government or individual will agree to use 90 percent of income to pay debt. My question is how is government able to pay salaries and other stuff if they are spending 90 percent of revenue?

tommy589:
He is brave knowing this may cost him reelection.

This measure to discourage importation is going to take many years as you mentioned. And probably many years after he has left to see the result
.
I am not sure their are serious cotton and tobacco farmers as it was in the past. Some manufacturers, like textiles and cigarettes makers have been disconnected for decades from their local suppliers..

Are these manufacturers/importers going to go back to local production instead of importation that offers less work force and like zero labor/management face off
If you want to stop importation, then it should start from the top, no more luxury cars.
PoliticsRe: Again, CBN Raises Import Duty Rate By Another 4.4% In 24 Hours by Anatolia: 7:04pm On Feb 03, 2024
DeLaRue:
You think so, but that's not the reality.

There is a pain point at which demand for many imported goods will fall fast. People will simply start buying less and less of them. Whether that pain point is at N1500, N1800, or N2000 to a dollar, I don't know.

But the CBN will have the data. They know. If N1500 doesn't stiffle imports to the level they want, I suspect the CBN will not mind seeing naira close to N2,000 to a dollar.

In some ways, it is to the credit of Mr Tinubu's administration that it is willing to follow this extremely tough path to redirect the economy from import-dependence to greater local production. For a politician facing election in just over 3 years to follow a path that may not show positive results for a few years, is truly brave.

The Nigerian economy was heading for the rocks after over 40 years of mismanagement. Tough decisions are needed to correct long term over dependence on imports.

That naira/dollar pain point is the point at which local production of certain goods starts becoming more viable than importing the same goods. This should translate to us producing more of what we need locally. This will lead to more job creation, less pressure on the naira, and a stronger, more balanced economy in the long term.

But this approach comes with a lot of economic pain initially, as the country is witnessing now.

That's the theory o.

Whether things happen in practice like I stated above is a different matter, because Nigeria's situation often defy economic theory.

Have you ever felt the pangs of a dying man because that is what you are suggesting. I perceive you may come from a privileged position. If you were drinking only garri and garri is no longer affordable, you would bear it. You prescribe for people what you cannot bear if you were in their position.

nairalanda1:
It has been in several reports. It is only now, thanks to the partial subsidy removal the government did, as well as their floating of the naira that it has gone down to 63% now.

We got into the debt because at the end, the money we earn from oil cannot carry Nigeria. Then there is the looting issue as well. Add that up, and we have wahala. And it has always been like

All, in all scary.

The problem is, APC was supposed to diversify the economy from 2015 onward. they did not, that is why we are here

Here is a report from last year on the debt servicing..KPMG says Nigeria may spend 100% revenue on debt service

That's why I yell about subsidy removal. And have done so since 2011, when my eyes were opened.
KPMG is talking about a debt to revenue ratio. The government is not paying any debt so we could still sustain subsidy. The senate who are being subsidized have not been affected. The only susbsidy they removed is for poor people.
