Don't worry mr Willy. Those haters here do not matter as they don't even vote nor have the cards to vote.

these things are literature analogies, not everyone can understand them, hence I dont always like to explain because not everyone will get it, and here on nl what happens in such instances is those who dont get it become foul mouthed and start raining insults and derailing threads due to the fact that they dont grasp the subject matter.

If Mr Brown of Things Fall Apart is G T Basden, then his work on Igbo culture, tradition and people is what was being referred to.

In addition, quick correction, Achebe's great uncle [his father's uncle], was the person who retained the traditional religion while his dad did not. Also, his dad was an orphan and was raised by this same uncle.
Cool. Your posts since the exit of the great Iroko are the best I have come across in nairaland since one year now. Keep it up.

These chaps are not serious at all. Impeach a man that has transformed the state within 14 months in office. Tell me any governor in Imo state that has done better than Okorocha except Kanu and Mbakwe.

PoliticsRe: Did Chinua Achebe Actually Do Anything To Promote Development In Nigeria? by AndreUweh(m): 3:15pm On Mar 23, 2013
Eko Ile: Words and books are very powerful tools that heals, influence and change minds and ashebe used these powerful instrument to divide and spread hate and bigotry. His last book didn't heal, it divided the country and erased all the gains we've made.

That bitter old man was selfish and thoughtless. Who writes dumb stuff like that in 2013 and at 82 years old? Obviously, he was hateful and bitter man to the core and he took all that baggage to the grave with him.
Poor boy, where is your own publication?.
PoliticsRe: Forbes Magazine Tribute To Chinua Achebe by AndreUweh(m): 3:07pm On Mar 23, 2013
ypzilanti: See this goat. A man died, and every single news source in the world was filled with praise for his life. ALL. CNN, BBC, AL JAZERRA, AP, even Forbes etc...

He attacked Awolowo, so what? Is Awolowo a Yoruba deity that cannot be attacked? They fought at two opposing sides of a war, so he has every right to be bitter about the man. Besides Awolowo responded to the allegations (which are not new) when he was alive. It is a case of 'he said' 'she said' by two great Nigerians. Go and jump into a lake if the accolades are paining you. If he was such a tribalist, why is Wole Soyinka mourning him? Ode.

One_Naira: see enviness in display. lmfao. it's noone fault that when you die, excluding your family, noone would care, bat a eye or give a crap. he's a better man than you'll ever be even if you end up having mulitple lives like all ypir multiple IDs on this forum. even a hair in his entire head is everything you'll never be. he's a greatest man, recognize everywhere in this continent, his death mourned everywhere. you can jump off bridge that despit your attacks, including using your ids few months ago, those attacks made zero impact to his reputation all over the world and this is a damn fact. it must be a shame knowing noone cared to you people mind. ntoooo. well At least, you have NL hall of shame una did to hold onto na. PoliticsRe: Celebrating Chinua Achebe's Achievements by AndreUweh(m): 12:29am On Mar 23, 2013
tpia@:
Achebe's parents were married by G T Basden, the well known author and authority on Igbo people, whose writings are considered among the foremost works chronicling igbo culture and tradition.

G T Basden was the person Mr Brown in Things fall Apart (an easygoing and well liked missionary in the novel) was based on.

Achebe was raised christian by his parents, but his dad's brother remained traditionalist, and he learned about african traditional religious practices from his extended relatives.
That's an interesting one.
In Things fall apart, Mr Brown promised to write a book about Okonkwo, did he do so?

PoliticsRe: Prof Chinua Achebe Is Dead! by AndreUweh(m): 7:00pm On Mar 22, 2013
Katsumoto: RIP to one of the greatest writers of all time.

It is wrong to speak ill of the dead as everyone is sure to die one day. Whilst some may argue that Achebe himself is guilty of speaking ill of the dead, it doesn't behove of us to do the same. After all, if everyone around us is losing their heads, should we do the same?

For those that want want to honour their hero while insulting folks that others may consider to be heroes, please think twice. You only end up attracting negativity to your hero. If you love and respect your mum, would you insult another person's mother?

Let us let the dead rest.
Nice one

coogar: wish i am a billionaire....
its about calling the nfa and top clubs to a round table - every club must have it's own stadium with a standard capacity. then, get the TV stations involved. hire foreign football analysts and package the product like sky did the premier league.

SportsRe: Shooting Stars Of Ibadan (Oluyole Warriors) Fan Thread! by AndreUweh(m): 2:17am On Mar 19, 2013
coogar: then what are the private firms doing about that? nigeria needs a murdoch. we have the population and the passion for the game.
PRIVATE FIRMS HAVE ALL TRIED TO SAVE THE LEAGUE BUT WITHOUT SUCCESS.
Private clubs in the past: Nigerlux, Nasco jets, DIC Bees (ranchers bees), VASCO DA GAGAMA, Exide, Rubber board, ACB, NEPA, etc.
The most important thing to happen to the league will be an improved TV coverage. TV rights brings a lot of money to clubs but in our league, very little or nothing comes in from Tv.
Under Orji Uzor Kalu, Enyimba partnered so many companies abroad, gate fees increased, deaf and dunb hired to man the gates yet the club operated at a loss.
The number one way forward is to package our league and to be sold out. I mean package a better league.

SportsRe: Shooting Stars Of Ibadan (Oluyole Warriors) Fan Thread! by AndreUweh(m): 1:57am On Mar 19, 2013
honeric01: Great, thanks.
The Imo state govt then found it so difficult to sponsor Spartans and Enyimba fc. Hence they relinquished ownership of Enyimba fc to Aba Township council. As a result of financial difficulties, the council handed it over to Falcons bottling company. The club was renamed Falcons until Amadi Ikwechegh's regime in Imo state. This regime bought it back from Falcons and renamed it Enyimba.

honeric01: But DSTV has the sole right over the league coverage now and they're doing well. good commentators too.
How can I watch it here in the U.K?.
SportsRe: Shooting Stars Of Ibadan (Oluyole Warriors) Fan Thread! by AndreUweh(m): 1:39am On Mar 19, 2013
honeric01: Nevermind, confirmed that Rangers and Heartland are the only clubs never to be relegated since 1972 inception.
Heartland was not there in 72. Joined in 76.
With the creation of Imo state in 1976, the new state formed two new teams-Spartans and Enyimba. While Spartans joined the national league in 76, Enyimba joined the eastern league same year.
Enyimba provided bulk of the players that featured for Spartans in the league and to some extent Rangers.
SportsRe: Shooting Stars Of Ibadan (Oluyole Warriors) Fan Thread! by AndreUweh(m): 1:35am On Mar 19, 2013
coogar: nfa have always been a useless organisation - i am not surprised. they just killed the soul of 2 good clubs. 90% of the green eagles players then were hand picked from those 2 clubs(leventis and abiola). it's like barcelona and real madrid or celtic and rangers!

i cannot watch those games again o
in the last 10 yrs now, watching any nigerian football turns my stomach. i don't know if it's the quality of the european leagues that has spoilt me or nigerian football in general has regressed. there's no pattern, no coherence, no tactical plan or even formation. i try to watch AIT/BEN on sky every saturday and the football is nothing to write home about. i change the channel within 5 mins. i used to enjoy them way back but not anymore.
One of the problems is poor coverage. The TV companies are so poor that they can not show better replays, slow motions, show goals, kicks from different angles. Stadiums are so empty and match commentators are so poor.
Watch a Nigerian team when they are playing in north Africa or in South Africa, you wont believe it.
