Didn't other regions in Nigeria had direct contact with the europeans? why didn't most of them change their names (SURNAMES) their identity, to english and foreign names? THE BINIS HAD DIRECT TRADE CONTACT with the Europeans more than any other tribes in Nigeria, yet they didn't change their IDENTITY (SURNAMES) to that of their trade partners, have you ever wondered why WHITES nd other western world never bear African names? they rather give their kids useless names than name them anything near African names?

What is CLARK?
what is Heineken?
What is Independence?
What is SMITH?

does these names have any significant meanings to you?

For Christ's sake, why would someone decides to name himself and his future generations after slave buyers, thereby killing and sending their own identity into extinction?

And what's with the English cap too if not to show that "we were once lost, but thanks to the whiteman, we have found a direction"?
May your days be long, Amen!.

Agha eyiri eyi, anagi eri onye ngworo. A planned war does not consume the lame.
When a war is looming and the date of the hostilities are known, it gives the opportunity for all even the lame to prepare adequately.
If one has an idea of an upcoming event, nothing surprices the wise ones.

EzeUche:
Andre Uweh,

You are right, it is in our laws not to call someone an osu, but we all know the old ways are still here. If you have one drop of osu blood in you, we all know how those people are treated. Just go to Enugu and you will see. Many osu have been forced to flee the east and move to Lagos or the West. The sad thing is that these same Osu do not tell their children, the real reason why they don't go home. The ostracism is too much.

Concerning Chinenye, the way he talks makes me angry. I have never seen a Ngwa man talk in such terms. That being said, he doesn't speak for Ngwa since he has never been to Ngwaland. Ngwas in the states are very disconnected from events at home. They believe every news story.

But I do find it strange, a guy that speaks/writes Igbo so fluently has never been to Alaigbo. What is his excuse?
The way he writes may be annoying, but in the spirit of oneness, forgive him. The other day, he labelled me an Igbo town crier, yet I forgave him. Those guys on the other great devide knows what I can unleash on them when they do something similar to that.

Biko anyi choro udo.
Lets hope one day an Ngwaman will be the governor of Abia state. They are educated and has got it takes to produce a governor. It is a matter of time and patience.
It is wrong to call some one an osu. All the states in eastern Nigeria has this enshrined in its laws.
Osu also is not an Igbowide issue, there are some communities that do not know what osu is all about, and Chinenye might not know either.
There are other Igbo groups aside Ngwas who want states of their own, yet they have not resulted to barbaric ways of achieving it. Aniomas since 1951, have wished for their own state but in a non violent and criminal way.
Whatever Chinenye writes here should not been seen as the opinion of Ngwa people.

You are the one who is daft here you monkey Poo eating slut. There is no reason whatsoever that justifies continous bearing of surnames when slave trade has been abolished since 1882 or thereabout. There were other Nigerian areas what were involved in slave dealings yet they do not maintain this schizophrenic ideas of bearing slave masters name.
My lil Nigger, if the idea of changinging names crept into your leaders brains, why not change those names with woozy accordion and twangy crap.
I have made my point, you can go and screw your self, castrated maggot, OW11.

I must say I admire your S.T.U.P.I.D.I.T.Y here. What would you say to a generation that still bears names of their slave masters after 130 years of abolition of slave trade.
Oh!, I remember, they changed the names of their towns after the civil war, yet they did not bother changing names that reminds them of the obnoxious trade.
Since it is alright for them to bear the names of the slave masters, wear their type of hats etc. They should be singing the national anthem of Great Britain.
Lets go ''May God save the Queen''.
Continue with the lyrics.

Listen guys, the problem has always been picking a credible candidate from Delta North. We thought we had a fighter in Peter, only to hear that he is probably on his way back to pdp.

I dont think the dis-unity is as bad as you guys make it. We all share a common problem, that is Delta North has been neglected for so long, and like you guys say, there are enough of us to pose a significant challenge for the top job.

We need to select for ourselves a credible leader.
Was Ibru a credible leader before he was chosen by his people. How about Ibori and Uduaghan?. For Ndigbo in Delta state, the in thing is unity.

Spot on. With their 9 LGA's they should be a force to reckon with in Delta state. The positions that have eluded them till date in Delta state is as a result of disunity within the Igbo groups.

Ndigbo in Delta state do not oly deserve a state of their own, but also a shot at the gubernatorial position. For that to be achieved, there is the need for unity amongst all the Igbo groups in Delta state. It does not matter if you are IkaIgbo or Ndokwa. What matters is the need to see each or other as Igbo brothers and sisters, to support one another and be there for each other.
The idea of one claiming Ika and not Igbo will make this lofty idea become a mirage.

you do not necessarily need to be Igbo before handing out Igbo names to your kids. What matters is the meaning of the name.

ogugua88:
Firstly, I am terribly sorry for your loss.

To answer your question now, I, personally, wouldn't do it. Eventually, your new born baby will grow and there will come a time when he/she will learn the story of his/her late sister. If I was in your position, I wouldn't want to put any kind of unnecessary pressure or stress on my child, nor would I want my child to believe that there is a certain role for him/her to play. I hope this makes sense. I can definitely understand from where you are coming and why you would want to do it. You're not done mourning and you never will be. However, your new born baby is not your late daughter, therefore, she should be granted the same individualism.

My own situation is somewhat similar. My mother's elder and only sister passed away the month I was conceived. I was born with the same high and defined cheek bones, one dimple, and two distinctive birth marks on my lower back, just like my late aunty. Till this day, my uncles, my grandmother, and my mom call me "Phoebe" my aunty's name. I wasn't named after her though. I was given the name Ogugua. Although I am not named after her, and I never had the chance to meet her, I think of her every single day. She does live through me. Your late daughter will live through your upcoming child. I believe that's how God works. I hope I have been of some help. I'm praying for you every day.
@Poster: Ogugua will also be good.

There is no way, he would be the first nigerian to be a professor. It is just a scam.

Not everybody want to be a teacher or professor. It is only in nigeria, that people think you have to be a professor to be in elected office.

The prime minister of Canada is not a professor.

Even look at Jonathan for example. What he read is not relevant to leadership of a country. Is it fishing or somthing. I think he read fishing or so.

The best leaders have not been professor go into america history. They have been ordinary people with may be first degree but with leadership skill.

Young man, one of the engineering company I once worked in canada is worth $13 billion .
G. Ebere. J read zoology. In my opinion, zoology is relevant to leadership. The world we live in is like a zoo. All sorts of things takes place in a zoo. One's ability to successfully run a zoo is vital.

So you want me to ignore the immediate actions of the plotters during the coup and accept the version of a junior plotter who wrote a book in the comfort of his home several years later? I think I go with the fact that Nzeogwu did not mention Awo when he made his broadcast.
That shows you are selective when it comes to 1966 memoirs. Anyway, why have you chosen to ignore Ademoyega's authored book-Why we struck. Is it because he wrote that the event of Jan 15, 1966 was not an Igbo act?.
Now, I realise you read only books that will support your arguements. Wow, I am learning new dog tricks everyday.
