SportsUwa Echiejile And Taiye Taiwo: Who Is Better?. by AndreUweh(op): 7:47pm On Dec 21, 2009

Taiwo better than Echiejile – Okpala
BY EPHRAIM NWOSU
Monday, December 21, 2009

Olympic Marseille strongman, Taye Taiwo, is a better player than Rennes defender, Elderson Echiejile. This is the verdict of the former Nigerian captain, Sylvanus Okpala (MON).

“So long as I am concern, Taye Taiwo and Echiejile are incomparable,” began the erstwhile Enyimba and Rangers International Chief Coach.

“When it comes to the left wing back, Taiwo is the best player to man the position. The Olympic Marseille boy is better than the youngman playing there at the moment. That is my personal opinion.”

Echiejile stole the heart of Super Eagles coach, Shaibu Amodu, after posting a five-star performance in the international friendlygame between Nigeria and France which Taiwo failed to honour. Ever since then, the rising youngster is now ahead of Taiwo in the national team pecking order and football pundits believe he has what it takes to pocket the shirt ahead of his more experienced rival for a long time to come but Okpala who helped Nigeria to win the 1980 African Cup of Nations insisted: “Taiwo defends better, make use of the ball better. He also overlap better.

In football he has a lot of characteristics that can earn him goals. For instance, he crosses the ball well, he is a free kick and penalty specialist and above all his legs are loaded with bullets. Such a player should be the dream defender of any coach in the world and it beats my imagination why Amodu is keeping him on the bench. I’ve watched the other guy play so many times and there is no doubt he is a good player. He is a great defender in the making, but for now, Taiwo is far better than him.”
CultureRe: Igbos Speak Better English Than Yorubas. by AndreUweh(m): 7:08pm On Dec 21, 2009
AfroCynic:
Come to think of it, I know some Igbo people that speak Yoruba better than some Yoruba people but I am yet to meet a Yoruba person that can speak Igbo! I think that is something worth giving credit for, I would love to be able to speak;

Because people are too lazy to learn other peoples language.
Even the English people are too lazy this days to learn other languages. There are some English people whom I have worked together with for over three years now, yet they find it difficult to spell my surname or pronounce it.
When I first arrived at Ibadan, my first mission was to learn Ibadan language (Yoruba). That assisted me a lot on day to day activities then.
During my service years, through my Hausa speaking corp members, I learn a bit of Hausa language as well. Some of them did not bother to learn my own native language because they were lazy to do so.

It depends on what is inside the theatre. You may have a fine looking theatre and inside it is ill-equipped.
Looks does not matter. What matters is: Diathermy
Laminal flow, temperature reading, operating lights, functioning operating tables and trolley,
functioning anaesthetic machine, suctioning machine, ventilated room,
sterile packs and instruments.
ETC.

Axeman85: From your post above, I understand you do not have an insight in to Igbo culture. It is islamic culture that you are refering to not the Igbo culture. In Islamic cultures especially in the north of Nigeria, parents e.g IBB decides who marries her daughters and what he decides is final.
CultureRe: Question For The Rivers People by AndreUweh(m): 9:50pm On Dec 19, 2009
Most communities in the East are not interested in where they come from. That has helped in binding them together as one.
Attempts by some Rivers people to learn about their histories has led to distorted stories and divisions. This has brought so much animosity in Rivers state and her neigbours and within Rivers state.
For example, Ngwa, Etche and Ikwerre peoples in the past have always lived in peace, traded with one another and had seen each other as one. Then the Elechi Amadi's who were not trained historians started writing junk history of the Ikwerres and how they came from Iduu. All these and so on he wrote without a proof further divided this groups and disturbed the then existing peace amongst these groups.
What matters today is not where you come from 800 years ago but where you are today. I f you are in Rebisi, Diobu, Omuma, Ahoada, Omoku and you say Daalu to one another you are one and Igbo.
I f you are in Asari-toru and Akoku-toru and you understand each other, then you are one.
Rivers state people, do not be deceived further.

KnowAll:
The state is over due, but that name does not do justice to the area calling it Urobo State might lead to resentment in some quarters, how are the Isekeris to take it, I think the name Delta State must be retained and the Asaba area should be called Anioma State.
That is the same point I have been making. Anioma state should be created for Ndigbo in delta state and the rest will retain the name Delta. Ndigbo in Delta state have been agitating for statehood since 1951 and should be supported.

The first King of the present dynasty was called Dein.
Ogiso and later Dein were titles imposed on them by their Bini overlords and later arrivals. The other kingdoms in Ika Igbo areas has Obi as as paramount rulers.
The dein of Agbor is only a young man and I am sure when he looses his youthfulness, he will revert to Obi of Agbor.

ezeagu:
Obi Ikechuku has always had both titles, besides Obi isn't inherently Igbo anyway.
It was only changed about five years ago or thereabout. More than 100 years before him it was Obi. His father was a well-known Obi during the West and Midwestern days and as a result of his popularity, all the midwestern Igbo people were wrongly called Ikaigbo.
Am sure, this change from Obi to Dein will give the late Obi worries in his grave.
CultureRe: The Ika People{igbanke}. by AndreUweh(m): 3:51pm On Dec 19, 2009
Obi is 100 percent Igbo. Obi stands for first male born. In Orlu areas, it is called Okwara. In rest of Imo and Abia areas it is called okpara or opara. In Enugu and Ebonyi areas, it is called Okpala. In Port Harcourt areas, it is Apara or Opara.
In Anambra and Anioma areas it is called Diokpala, Diokpa or Obi. Most Obis were first male borns who were elevated to kingship positions when the need arose for such positions. Obiship are recent creations and about 150 years old.
