shymmex:Wessley80 is from Abor, and he does not deny his Igboness. He posts here regularly in nairaland. |
alj harem: LOL at 100 % IgboAll this junks you read all the time has led you astray. Seeing is believing. The immediate past president of the Igbo Youths U.K-Mazi Sopuruchukwu Okere is an Ndokiman from Rivers state. He is not Ijaw but 1005 Igbo. Seeing is believing, forget those junk books Ijaws write. |
alj harem: Tear what apart ?I admit you know a lot but my advice to you is that you do not chat about what you do not know. Some of the books you read has misled you a lot. While most of us who chat about the Yorubas either reside there or have spent years in Yorubaland. |
alj harem: Are they Ijaw Yes or No ?They are 100% Igbo. |
alj harem: Shut it, Know what you are talking about before. I am just waiting till I get less busy then I would start my own propaganda so get ready. You went to go from Ngohagaha so you can be tribalistic ? How childishThe paramount ruler of the Binis is an Oba, yet he is not Yoruba. The paramount ruler of the Idoma is called Ochi-Idoma yet he is not Igbo. Whatever the Badagry rulers are called does not take them away from whom they are. It's a pity that such a learnerd man like you can make such statements about my state. Even as am chatting you here, I have workers in road construction in Imo state and in border communities with Rivers state. Admit you are wrong, Uche. |
alj harem: I knew what i was talking about but just needed to time to get a link for it.Not in Imo state. |
alj harem: Shut it.Nairaland jokes apart, am from Imo state and proud of it. Current my state govt awarded me some road contracts which I have always been going home to supervise. Im my state Imo, there are no Ijaws there. There even more Yorubas and Hausas than Ijaws in Imo state. Imo state also shares no borders with Ijaws or any non Igbo speaking community. |
shymmex: But if the Egbas, Ekitis, Ijebus, and Ondo people are classified as yorubas - what makes you think Eguns are notThe groups you listed above are Yoruba groups but Egun is not and has never been. Why can't people be honest for once?. |
Tru_lie: @harem..am frm imo stat n ohaji/egbema precisly n i can tel u so afirmativly dat we ar ibo2 d core..i no u ar referin 2 areas lik etekuru, assa, awara, obitin n odas al in oh/egb lg..ds areas spel d boundry btw imo n rivaz.Am from Imo state as well and Imo state shares no borders with Ijaws. Let him prove me wrong. |
alj harem: Dude mind your utterances. You keep talk about something you have no idea of. Shut it, I am not her to witch hunt Igbos but don't force me to go back to my original Moniker. Take time and respect yourselfYou said am not from Imo state and I have given you my claims that am a proud Isinweke man from Imo state. You said there Ijaws in my state and I said no, why not prove me wrong. Who cares about your monikers?. |
alj harem: Andre Uweh come back, shebi you are mouthy ?Check this out, this is about my community in Imo state. Where is yours?. |
shymmex: You need to let it go - Eguns are as Yoruba as the other Yoruba subgroups that were not created by the sons of Oduduwa.. They're Yorubas, just as the Egbas, Ijebus, Yewas, Ekitis etc..Am not derailing this thread and do not mean to do so. The writer of the aricle has stated about non Yoruba groups in the south west especially in Badagry. Yet some nairalanders here have made fruithless attempts to murder the truth. |
alj harem: Shut it. You are not from Imo state but from Anambra.Am a proud Imolite from Isinweke. I have even created a thread about my community in Imo state Check out: https://www.nairaland.com/289584/what-people-known/1 Tell me where you have Ijaw in my state or tell me about any Ijaw in Imo state or forever shut up. |
alj harem: Why not go move them, if I start now they would say Alj harem does not like them. I am very well travelled and as said the writter addressed some issues but also needed to point outAm from Imo state and there are no Ijaws in Imo state. Tell me where you have the Ijaws in my state. Or tell me one Ijaw from Imo state. Imo state does not even share a border with any no Igbo group. Imo state is at the heart of Igboland and is called Eastern heartland. You have to move on bruv. |
Yaya Toure Branislav Ivanovic Juan Mata Al habsi Demba Ba Hatem Ben Alfa All this guys deserve to be nominated. |
Kudos to the writer of this article. The chap understands the south and the north very well and I suppose he is widely travelled. He even went further to address the issue of other tribes in South west and wrote about the non groups in the Badagry area. Yet some nairalanders have lied through their teeth that Bsadagry is Yorubaland and that Egu are Yorubas. I pity all this liars here. |
Enwela nmeko nwoke na nwanyi na ubi (ugbo).Sexual intercourse in the farmland is abominable. In AlaIgbo, farmland is regarded as sacred. It needs protection from defilement through sex in the farmland. This is taken as the most obvious and highly objectionable act of defilement. In the Igbo worldview, the defilement will invariably make for the infertility of the farmland because the God of fertility would be displeased. Ndigbo also believes that sexual intercourse in the farmland defiles womanhood. To the non-Igbo in this thread, these belief may appear irrational to the modern mind, yet this belief have instrumental value in terms of PROPER AND ACCEPTABLE SEXUAL BEHAVIOUR AMONG NDIGBO. |
Ejiné: Akwu la udoh - Do not commit suicide (usually by hanging at the time).@Ejine, thanks a lot for this wondrous post above. Imeela, onye nwe anyi gba gi umee. Ikwu udo (suicide) is an abomination, so is murder. In both cases, apart from the prescribed saction, the land, that is Ala, Ani or Ana, must be cleansed because human blood is sacred in terms of its support of life. Such blood constitutes pollutants to Ala. Murder and suicide are also regarded as offences against Chukwu. This reason in Igbo culture is that God alone owns life (Chinwendu, Chijindu), gives life, and only God can take life. In murder and suicide, someone is attempting to oust God and thereafter play God's role. |
anishe: How does this make the front page?Because this thread is very educative and informative. It is more educative than half of the threads in the front page. Am happy the moderators now come to the cultural section to see what we do. Thanks to all the mods and adm. |
Anala madu ihe ya n'ike: Do not forcibly take over somebody's property, either movable or non-movable. |
Agbana ama ugha: do not bear false witness testimony against any person or be a false witness. Ndigbo frown at people who engage in such vices. |
@Nedu, Ikwa iko na ira nwunye madu bu ofu. Anyway, am expecting some laws from your own Igbo community or the general Igbo laws. Do you have any?. |
Emebile ihe madu ibe gi: do not destroy or damage the property of any person. Impregnating somebody's daughter without the offer of marriage is taken as a form of destruction or damage in almost all the Igbo communities. |
greateros: Anapuna nwayi ajadu oku ya ma obu ihe nwe-nwe ya ni ike [thou shalt not forcefully take that which belong to the widow]Ihe i dere amaka. |
ifyalways: Ezula ji,akwkwo nri ma obu ede na oba ma o bu oru/ugbo mmadu(don't steal yam, cassava, cocoyam, vegetables and the likes from anothers farmland or storeroom)Eziokwu ka ikwuru. Kedu kwanu maka nkpuru osisi ndi nke no na Ozara Okigwe-Enugwu express road?. Nkpuru osisi kashiu juputara ebeaha. Ndi madu na akwushi na aghora ya aracha. Odim ka onweghi ndi wee ya. Amam na obughi ohi. |
Ezune oshi (ezule ohi): Do not steal. Egbune madu: do not kill any person. Akwula udo: do not commit suicide. Ara la nwunye madu: Do not commit adultery. Ayi na nwunye madu oyi: do not flirt or befriend another person's wife. Ara na nwanne gi: do not have sex with your kith and kin-incest. CAN WE LIST THE REST PLEASE?. |
Law in Igbo language means Iwu. This is often referred as Iwu ala, iwu ani, iwu ala, iwu eli or iwu obodo. This is the law of the land, or the law of the town, or the law of the country. From Iwu, the following are derivable: 1. Odi na iwu: it is forbidden by law, illegal. 2. Tinye iwu: make law or enact law. 3. Mebi iwu: commit crime, offence, break law, sin, wrongdoing. 4. Ida Iwu: to break the law. What are these laws?. Some are similar to those in the official Nigerian system while some are universal because Ndigbo are part of humanity. A few are nonetheless, distinctly Igbo. Ndigbo, let us assembly them. |
tenisuga: I will start by nominating:This is wrong. You can not be a referee and player at the same time. |
I nominate Jarus and Olabukola. |
Emeka Anyaoku is in seventies already and that counts him. Ogbonnaya Onu has been politically irrelevant since he left the govt house at Umuahia. The type of leaders Ndigbo looks to forward to Nigerias are; Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. Ebitu Ukiwe. Owerre R. Okorocha S. Chime Ndubuisi Kanu Ngige Chukwuma Soludo Dora Akunyili Ike Nwachukwu Pat Utomi |
