The argument against Foden is that he did not impact the games because he did not have any goals or assists. I'm saying the same arguments should be extended to any other player in the team except the actual role assigned to the player challenges that.

Saka scored as a RW. Palmer as an AM. The only 2 games Foden played as an AM were Switzerland and Netherlands. He did not score or assist but no player on both teams was better than him especially in the latter.

They did not play well and barely got out of games except the SFs. They could not string passes together. Could not generate many high quality chances consistently. They were thoroughly outplayed in all depts. Even when England switched second half and started trying to press, Spain played through it easily. They knew when to go long, short, quick etc. It was men against boys.

I trust Mount of Chelsea for this job sha. If na Mount, him go do that role well and still try attackingly even though he's not as creative as Foden

Tbh, It'll be very very difficult to build play around Foden. Pep is a different breed and Foden is not that kinda your type of archetypal player you build team around. Man City and England have two different players and different teams.

While you are right that Foden should be contributing more offensively, you will have to start by analyzing what Southgate was trying to do versus what was being translated on the field and which players was meeting those expectations. Foden did not go above and beyond- I agree. But he did the base job well. Jude did not do his base job against Slovakia for e.g. but he went above and beyond by scoring that clutch goal so he was forgiven. Well, the results finally caught up.

Mainoo was being excused yesterday and Foden was being mentioned as one of the attackers not creating anything in the first half. I specifically came here to point out that Foden was not given the creative role because I knew people will revert to singling him out. Well, the same way you don't expect Pickford or Mainoo to score, you cannot expect the player marking out Spain's most important player to still carry the responsibility for creating, attacking, scoring etc. Simple.

Today, Foden was delegated to shadow Rodri and cut out passing lanes to him. He did that very well in the first half. Second half Foden played LM because Spain scored very early on. The LM is not there to create width or score. He is there to keep the shape of the attack or defense. He did it.

I know you think Phil should be scoring and assisting but apart from the previous 2 games where he played in his more natural position, that has been his role for England. So just like Rodri was being played as CB and everyone here called him 'System Player' until Busquets retired and now Spain are back to winning stuff with Rodri as the DM, England will not win anything until they build the team around their best player. Phil Foden.

I hope this replies every other person mentioning me. Pep will still use that same Foden to win another league and UCL title because he will build around the player.
