There was a twist at a ministerial platform programme in Abuja, on Friday, as one of the participants accused an unnamed Principal Secretary to President Goodluck Jonathan of demanding N5 million before he (the participant) could be allowed to meet the President.

Saturday Tribune, which was at the National Press Centre, venue of the programme, observed that other participants comprising diplomats were stunned when Pastor Jason Nworah made the allegation.

Friday’s programme witnessed the highest number of diplomats so far, ostensibly due to the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Olugbenga Ashiru.

Nworah had attended virtually all the platform programmes which had run for about two weeks now and habitually asked questions.

At the event, where Ashiru and his counterpart from the Ministry of Interior, Abba Moro, made presentations, a visibly angry Nworah, who is the National President of Youth Organisation for Unity and Total Harmony of Society (Youths), alleged that he had approached the Presidency with a proposal on how the country could attract direct foreign investment, only to be told that he had to part with the sum of N5 million before he could get the attention of the President.

He said the proposal was “before the desk of the Principal Secretary to President Jonathan.”

The programme was aired live and monitored locally and internationally.

None of the members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), who were present at the programme, made effort to debunk the allegation.

The allegation came as the administration of President Jonathan said it was fighting graft and was determined to stamp it out.

Chairman of the National Action Council, Dr Olapade Agoro, has vowed to sue Major General Muhammed Buhari (rtd) and the Federal Government unless the retired general is arrested and prosecuted over a statement credited to him that the Federal Government was worse than Boko Haram.

Buhari, the candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in the 2011 presidential election, was reported to have said that with the level of corruption in the country, the Federal Government was worse than Boko Haram, when some members of the party from Niger State paid him a courtesy visit in Kaduna.

Agoro, who stormed the Imalefalafia, Ibadan office of the Saturday Tribune, said: “What General Buhari said was reckless and irresponsible at this time of our security challenge. By saying that the Federal Government is worse than Boko Haram, is he saying that the Federal Government has been killing people? Has the Federal Government been unleashing terror on the nation? It is an irresponsible statement and if the Federal Government fails to take action against him, I will take Buhari up. I will challenge him and take him to court.”

The former presidential candidate said the statement credited to Buhari provided the government the needed opportunity to move against the former Head of State.

“It was Buhari that triggered the present situation. It was he who challenged the Northerners to go out and cause problem if the 2011 presidential election did not go in his favour.

“We are all witnesses to what happened afterwards. The current wave of insecurity in the North is a consequence of that statement. That is why the government should not take this lightly. This is an invitation to anarchy, it is an invitation to Boko Haram members to cause more havoc.

“This is why the government should take him up and prosecute him now. Should the government fail to do this, I will sue Buhari and join the Federal Government. We cannot fold our arms and watch our country go to the dogs,” Agoro said.

How we killed forex dealer, by Lebanese suspect

More facts emerged yesterday over how two Lebanese and three Nigerians allegedly killed a forex dealer, Ali Sani, in a hotel suite in Apapa, Lagos, last week.
The Lebanese identified simply as Bilal, told the police how he, another Lebanese called Hassan, who is still at large, and a Nigerian, identified as Mohammed, connived to allegedly kill 35-year-old Sani, in a hotel on Marine Road, Apapa. Daily Sun reported the killing on Monday.

A Lagos State Police Command source disclosed that Bilal allegedly confessed to policemen attached to Area ‘B’ Apapa that they plotted to kill Sani and dispossess him of the $50, 000 (about N9 million).
According to the source, Bilal lodged in the hotel for the first time because of the plan. The suspect said that they chose room 72 which is on the last floor. He said the forex dealer was a friend to Hassan, adding that Bilal said he called Sani on phone to bring the money.

When Sani entered the room, he asked if the hard currency was complete.
Daily Sun gathered that as Sani was counting the money in the presence of Bilal, a man identified as Mohammed, came out from the room and hit him in the head with a plank. Bilal and Mohammed allegedly tried to tie Sani with a rope but, the man was too strong for them. Bilal was said to have allegedly stabbed the dealer in the head and eye with a knife, while Mohammed hit him with a stick.
He said when the victim collapsed, he carried part of the hard currency into his bag. Bilal was escaping from the scene but unknown to him the blood stain on his clothes would give him away. The private securitymen on duty stopped him and demanded to know how he came about the blood stain on his clothes. He wanted to escape, but the securitymen still insisted he should wait.

At that point, the Lebanese allegedly brought out the knife which he used on Sani, stabbed himself in the chest and warned that he would kill anybody that would want to stop him from escaping.
A policeman attached to the hotel hit the Lebanese hand with a long plank and the knife dropped from his hand. The securitymen overpowered him.
The policeman took the bag into an office with the key to enquire who the foreigner had allegedly attacked.
Hassan and Mohammed escaped from the scene. The taxi driver identified as Benjamin, was arrested alongside Segun, who is a commercial speedboat operator.

A source at Apapa police command disclosed that Bilal allegedly said the role of the driver was to convey the dealer and the hard currency to a hotel and also move them to under Liverpool Bridge area, Apapa while the commercial speedboat operator would convey them from the lagoon at Liverpool to another area so that police would not be able to trace them.
Confirming the story to Daily Sun, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Jaiyeoba Joseph, a Superintendent, said he could only confirm that one Lebanese was arrested in respect of the matter. Joseph said the police arrested Bilal at the hotel.

He said that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, Lagos, for further investigation.
