Spot on. One of the reason why epl enjoys massive viewership is language. English the most widely spoken language in the world so since it's the most common means of communication, it reaches a wider audience than others.
Secondly, epl was the first league to embrace TV viewership which led to improved stadia and better organisation of the clubs and with that came more money.
Both factors above had nothing to do with the quality of the football. As at the 90s, the Italian league had the best football quality and the best players but it has hardly been a popular league in terms of viewership
