PoliticsPdp Was Losing Cancelled Parliamentary Election Embarrassingly! by apoti(op): 6:08pm On Apr 03, 2011
Nigeria’s ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was losing the parliamentary election in an embarrassing fashion in places where yesterday’s National Assembly elections took place, according to preliminary election numbers obtained by SaharaReporters from Kaduna, Benue, Gombe, Katsina, Nassarawa and Lagos.

From Gombe State, SaharaReporters obtained the following vote tally from Kofar Ajiya: PDP 10, ANPP 19 and CPC 121; Kofar Shetima: PDP 5 votes, ANNP 10 and CPCP 117; Kofar Sadauki: PDP 12 votes, CPC 132; and at Kofar Sarkin Dabe: PDP 1 vote and CPC with 48 votes.

Of equal interest, in Kaduna State, in Vice-President Sambo's own neighborhood of 500 voters, the PDP received only 100, and in Suba LGA, Kaduna out of 10,000 votes PDP only managed to get 500.

PoliticsIt’s A Shame Nigeria Spent N155bn On Rice Importation – Obasanjo by apoti(op): 2:48am On Mar 30, 2011
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Monday described as ‘shameful,’ the N155bn Nigeria spends annually on rice importation.

Obasanjo, in a keynote address he delivered at the International Conference on Information Communication Technology for Africa 2011 at the Bells University, Ota, Ogun State, said importation of food by Nigeria was condemnable in view of its vast arable land.

“About a week ago, I read that the country imported N155bn worth of rice which is more than investing $1bn on rice. In a country of over 100 million people and with the kind of arable land we have, where there is nowhere we cannot plant rice, it is shameful to invest such an amount of money on rice importation,” he lamented.

Obasanjo, who was Nigeria’s President from 1999 to 2007, warned that if government continued to import food with oil money, Nigeria and even its future generations would be impoverished.

He said, “If we take all our money from oil to import food, then we are impoverishing the nation, our children and children yet unborn.

“We have arable land, but we should know that the land will not grow food no matter how fertile it is except we prepare the land to grow food. If we don’t till the arable land will only produce weeds.”

The former President, who is also a farmer, stressed that the nation’s growing population had become a curse instead of a blessing.

He noted that there was a disconnection between food production and the nation’s population.

“The population keeps on increasing but the people on the farms are reducing,” Obasanjo said, advising the government on the need to make agriculture attractive by giving necessary incentives to farmers.

The former President said, “Nobody is too old, too educated, too sophisticated to go into farming and there is no gender issue in farming.”

On the problems confronting the agricultural sector, Obasanjo stated the need for a solution to be found in the areas of finance.

Describing funds needed in the sector as ‘time-bound’, he said that processing, storage and marketing were some of the problems confronting agricultural development in the country.

He said that the country had been lucky among African nations to have two out of the five largest rivers in Africa- River Niger and River Benue.

Obasanjo, who regretted that the nation had not taken adequate advantage of the two rivers, also observed that there was poor management of water for food production.

The former President said,“If we have to depend solely on rainfall for agriculture, we will constantly have problems as there will always be failure particularly with climatic changes.”

He stressed the need for the nation to ensure the application of the ICT in tackling food scarcity.

The Chairman of the occasion, Chief Femi Olopade, in his remark, lamented that 43 African nations were among the 86 countries in the world identified as of low income and food insecure.

He said that food insecurity had become a problem confronting the nation and other countries across the world.

PoliticsRe: Report Your Efforts On Buhari-bakare Team Here by apoti(m): 11:42am On Mar 29, 2011
I can assure you all that the change is coming very fast, I'm even scared at the rate at which it is coming
People are seeing the light day after day. I have 3 testimonies  cool

1. One of my best friends in school, he's from SS and he now works with GT in PH. He has been a crazy supporter of GEJ right from when he was VP. no matter what u say he will defend GEJ with his last breath. yesterday we were talking on skype and he just told me he's voting for BB, because the series of events that happened had convinced him GEJ has nothing to offer.

2. The pastor of my fellowship in school, he now works with a multinational company in Lagos and we've always being in touch. Lately we've engaged in series of comments and posts on FB. He even told me he was disappointed in me for supporting BB. We exchanged comments for more than 2 weeks and I was trying to convince him with facts.  he has stopped responding for some days now, i tot he has shunned me (not knowing my seed was germinating  wink ) Today I was amazed to see that he wrote on his FB wall "Vote BB the only change we need"

3. The greatest of all is my father. He has always disliked the hausa tribe (I used to tell us they are not intelligent that's why they join d military  cheesy ).  I asked him in january to vote for buhari. He replied "buhari loun loun" (meaning Buhari of all people). I don't know what he saw or who convinced him he told me he is voting for BB!

I'm so happy because, I'm not voting, but I'm convincing pple that will vote
The change is here

Instead , what comes to my mind is that  for the 1st time in a long while, pump price of Fuel was and has been the same in all parts of the country even during December 2010(xmass).It sold for =N=65 in Owerri,Umuahia,Aba Maiduguri,Kano,Akure etc just like it did in Lagos. All thanks to Jonathan!! I am still wondering how he was able to achieve that.

I remember that Nigerian airports received “A” rating and were certified safe by international rating authorities as a result of which Us planes can now fly directly into Nigeria and vice versa. This is because NCAA under Jonathan upgraded our equipments up to the required international safety standard.

I also remember that the depletion and downward trend in the amount of our foreign reserve which started as far back as 2007 during Yaradua has been reversed by Jonathan in such a short period of time.
I equally remember that under Jonathan, the south east now has a licensed, well equipped and functional international airport at Enugu. Others played politics with it.

I  remember that for the 1st time in a long while, a sitting President (GEJ) refused to interfere with a court process that led to his party losing two governorship sits against pressure from his party. He refused to do what others would have done instead allowed the rule of law. He even went ahead to congratulate the governors that won the cases despite that they belong to opposition parties.

I remember the meeting between Jonathan and Barack obama,Nigerians were proud of their president. The day he addressed Ecowas Heads of state, Nigerians were proud, the day he made his declaration for presidency, Nigerians were proud. We saw a shift from the kind of presidents we used to have to a modern and sound president and as such do not wish to go back.

Do I continue?

Let me leave the rest for future articles.
Let me help you  cool

I remember he was the first Nigerian President to welcome and celebrate an ex-convict (Bode George)

I remember he once said IBB was responsible for abuja bomb blast and later called IBB his mentor and father

I remember Yaradua left about 30b USD in the excess crude oil account and it's almost empty now

I also remember Alamiesegha left billions of naira in bayelsa state account when he was impeached, but was all squandered

I remember Nigeria has experienced more bomb blasts during his one year rule than never b4

I also remember he was the first Nigerian president that was scared of Turai   cheesy

He is also the first President in the world to participate in the  "koko" mansion  grin  grin

Do you want me to continue,   cool

Udobass:
When did Buhari start watching Nigerian matches? Because he wants to be president at all cost, he went to not only watch the match, but sat at the popular stand just so u guys will come to tell us how humble he is. who is he fooling? If he likes let him sit on the ground, he will not become the president of Nigeria. Even an unborn child knows that Jonathan is more humble than Buhari. Tell him to stop playing to the gallery, it will not work. He was the head of state about 27 years ago, now he has come back, to do what? If we give him an opportunity now, when will people like me have a chance to bring good governance to Nigerians? Do i continue to wait until Buhari finally becomes Nigerian president before i have a shot at the presidency? That will mean waiting till eternity because he will never be president. To u all Buhari campaigners, wake up, the world is changing and at a very fast pace too, so u have to change along with time. BUHARI IS SPENT, SPENT, FAR SPENT. Let him go home and rest, when we need advice, we will go to him. Chikena!
And what humility has GEJ displayed  huh
Remember there's a big difference between humility and stupidity  grin

They boycotted BON not because it's not credible, but because GEJ disrespected them and failed to show up in the first debate, so what's your point

When I said pdp, I expect you to be smart enough to know I was referring to the leadership of the Nigeria.
U mentioned Africa, tell me which African country is poor today and it's not because of bad, corrupt and self-centred leaders. If the head is rotten, d body will surely rot.

And he is trying to make a difference Mr. Know-nothing. Even in India, politicians give rice to the poor. This is not just a Nigerian phenomenon. The average Nigerian wants food and he is providing them with food. You cannot compare the U.S. with Nigeria, since the U.S. has a good social welfare program.

In addition, I did get an Obama bumper sticker for my car as well as Obama merchandise when he was running for president.

BTW, you are not in my league, so do think that you arecool
In your league? u are on NL and it's your dreamland, u can choose to be in any "dream-league" so wake up  wink

BTW, if your fingers were not faster than your brain, you would have read that  I said it's because of poverty and hunger. If pdp had not starved d masses for 12 yrs, GEJ would not have resolved to  N5 biscuits-strategy, he would probably have distributed bumper stickers etc like obama did

The man' hard work to see true democracy at work by building an INEC that is truely independent is remarkable. Even if he doesnt do any other thing, that is enough. Yet, I know that a lot has been achieved. Since his days, high profile killings has stopped. The media is so free and does not have the goverment breathing down their necks, Steady availability of petroluem products which hiterto proved impossible, and no interference in the affairs of the Judicary are all pointers that we have a leader that we need. Yet, I know that the BB fanfare has blinded many that even white will turn black.
You can't conclude that INEC is fully independent until after the elections

noblezone:
What many of you dont realise yet is this:
Head or tail, Jonathan "wins". Loosing to Buhari will not be his end, rather that will equally elavet his status as a states man, and the world will honour him for being such a great heart. The man is commited to a free and fair elections. We all have our convinctions, let us do our part and leave the rest for God and those in authority.

It will be honourable for her resign as moderator and focus her energy on BB2011 agenda.
I don't get it. It's only referees/judges or anyone who decides the winner of a competition that should be neutral. Aisha does not determine the winner of this election, so I don't see any reason why she should not have her opinion.
