WebmastersRe: Responsive Web Design Tutorial From Scratch by Appliedmaths(m): 4:44pm On Oct 31, 2013
GraphicsPlus: Yes, the @media query stuff will come after the main stylesheet. It should come like this:

@media all and (max-width:480px) {..............}

All ur codes for 480px media query will fall inside the curly bracket where the dots are.

Again, @media query doesnt work on older browsers like ie6 to ie8. There is a javascript walk-around to fix that.

Cheers.
Ok sire!, I think I've gotten it now. So if it's a real situation then the page we created will be properly viewed by devices with 480px max-width and also standard web browsers simultaneously.
WebmastersRe: Responsive Web Design Tutorial From Scratch by Appliedmaths(m): 3:18pm On Oct 31, 2013
@op and every one, please I didn't get the last part on how to add the @media query to the main css style sheet.

Are we to paste the newly edited @media and all (max-width:480px)... Immediately after the last code on our main style sheet?

I've done this but when I re-size my browser both mozilla and IE , the page remains un-responsive pls any other solution. My system isn't connected to the internet sha!.
WebmastersRe: Please I'm New To Web Designing, Kindly Help Me In Any Way Possible. Thanks by Appliedmaths(m): 11:28pm On Oct 29, 2013
If you can't CODE IT YOURSELF then my guy you're still a learner and shouldn't be called a webmaster/developers. After you've mastered the art of coding, as in coding a complete web page from start to finish then you can add the CMS thing as an added skill.

Even the person teaching you the CMS stuff is a professional coder.

Picture your self in a setting where you're a given a system with a notepad++ and a web browser to show your skills, wetin you go do?
WebmastersRe: Learn Web Design LIVE On Nairaland!!! by Appliedmaths(m):
@OP, you couldn't have said it better I salute you, always been a fan of CODE IT YOUR SELF. BTW you for at least show face we don dey worry b4, glad you're back. Me I dey try read my book for my small corner till you arrive. #bless

Q?

If my DOCTYPE declaration is in HTML 5, and I write my codes by mixing HTML 4 and 5 elements, also with css 2 and Css 3 elements. Using the html codes validator procedure, would it validate my mixed codes? or should I only write my html and let's just add (css codes) according to the doctype I used. That is if I used html 4 doctype declaration then should I only write my html codes in html 4 and not any other html lang let's say 5? Or if I used html 5 doctype should I only write my codes in html 5 elements and nothing else ?

Please throw more light, and don't allow my many questions bother you abeg, na learn I dey learn that's my kind of person, very inquisitive. Thanks! cool

WebmastersRe: Learn Web Design LIVE On Nairaland!!! by Appliedmaths(m): 11:15am On Oct 25, 2013
Djtm: 1. You have to learn a server side language like PHP or ASP.NET to be able 'process' your form.
2. If you're interested in cms at this stage, then you'll never grow beyond your current level. You might never know how to 'process' your form because there's something doing it for you.

I'll advice you to put up a nice webpage first with html before learning a server side language. There are still a lot of things you need to learn on html. Fonts, colors, aesthetics etc. Be good at what you're doing first. Then learn php. You will be able to code your own cms after getting the hang of it.
Thanks man!,Bros your words cut deep like a knife...@ this stage I can put up a web page using html linked with css style sheet (some e-books dey help me gan) as no man is an island of knowledge I wouldn't say I'm a pro but trust me I dey pull stunts with these two languages, so what's the nest step forward...
WebmastersRe: Learn Web Design LIVE On Nairaland!!! by Appliedmaths(m): 9:43am On Oct 25, 2013
Djtm: don't use cms until you're very good at web developing. Cms are there to save time.
Ok boss thanks, but you see I have two main issues now with the coding method. At least @ this stage I can put up a very creative one paged site with forms, tables etc.

1) I've read the theory aspect but I can't really process my forms that is,I don't know how or where to save and process the information received by my form.

2) I don't know how to upload my coded web page to a host, although I heared of the ftp stuffs haven't really gone through that thing.

I'm not trying to run faster than my shadows but I'm a very fast learner,I can code everything I've learnt on this thread off hand. But with the cms method I can do 1) and 2) without even breaking a sweat. huh

No time!

@op, please o! Those joomla, wordpress etc guys are really making jest of we coders ooo! They say we're old school and can't deliver accurately on time. CODE-EATER would understand me better, as for me personally I like coding it makes me feel smart and versatile. So @ op please, enlighten us on the difference, pros and cons between the CMS method and the raw coding method.

Don't worry, they would soon divide the country so we will learn the new one by then. BTW the present(about to be old) anthem is none of my business, the country isn't worth reciting the anthem nor even memorizing it.

Then scroll down to blind scan and select. Press ''ok'' and press the right volume button once. And press ''ok'' again. Allow to blindscan and exit to home screen. Should be fine now.

EducationRe: Nigerian Universities Rank Better In Africa Than Ghanian Universities by Appliedmaths(m): 6:40pm On Oct 20, 2013
And the lazy old-school lecturers who suppose the be busy conducting meaningful research and boosting the image of our universities positively are stupidly comparing their salaries with that of the politicians. Did anyone force them at gun point to become lecturers?. When it comes to money they rant and shout like stray dogs and paint the FG black, but the same people are full of all sort of mischief (bribery, female students sex scandal, cultisim, attending classes whenever they feel like, exam malpractice etc).

NB: I'm not in support of the FG either cause that one na national issue.
EducationRe: How First Class Students Are Retained In Our Various Universities by Appliedmaths(m): 6:19pm On Oct 20, 2013
In my school UNIBEN it depends if the 1st class graduate really wants to take up lecturing as a job, the department would offer you a place as a graduate assistant to start with then you'll work your way up by proving your self. But let me tell you that "Tribalism" has taken over the system especially in UNIBEN, even if they offer you a place out of pressure and public opinion, they would make sure they make work a living hell for that fellow.

SlyIg: In that case, the lecturers should kindly resign and go back to their village and contest for any political post of their choice if they're envious of the politicians and their earning.
What is it with ASUU!
My dear, you've said it all. And also they should be prepared to carry out rituals and become cult members too before they can win elections in Nigeria. That's how Nigeria work!. Everyman chose his career so let him bear the consequences to the latter be it good or bad.
EducationRe: "Return To Classrooms" Jonathan Appeals To ASUU by Appliedmaths(m): 5:55pm On Oct 19, 2013

EducationRe: Math, Eglish, Agric Sci And Econs What Course Can I Go For by Appliedmaths(m): 2:50am On Oct 19, 2013
You need a minimum of 5 credits(c6), I don't know what 4 credits would do. And also get the current jamb brochure cause different schools have different criteria for admission. Assuming you have chemistry or physics then you're welcomed to Uniben to study maths and econs a double degree 4years full time course(what I'm studying) or if you have govt/commerce/account then you can go for economics and statistics also 4years full time course. So do your analysis properly ok.

NB: don't allow anybody dictate the course you study for you, I'm just giving you options.
