azikiwe was a pan africanist.

this was informed by the racism he experienced while schooling in the u.s in the 1920s.

when he came back to africa he became known as Zika of africa, his revolutionary struggle didnt even start here in Nigeria.

Zika of Africa julius nyerere kwame nkruma Kenneth kaunda. these re the real African icons.

while Awolowo at best is an ethnic champion. even the north hated him
Pan africanist who couldn't decipher the peculiarity of his immediate environment, even Awolowo in that popular saying when he told Zik "he should remember we have differences" and vision less Zik replied him "let's forget our differences".
Is it not that same differences that we all are suffering today?

You back others to your detriment because of your lack of foresight, you backed GEJ in 2011 for president even when the NW requested that they complete their second term since Yar'adua was dead and Peter Obi, Ohaneze and several Igbo politicians refused.
You were even reminded that power would move to the South and of the SE in 2015 and everyone refused. That's why people like you are now begging for the SE to be given the slot for president but who would even look at you.

Continue backing other people at your detriment, you love others to progress but you remain stagnated or even retrogressing.

Zik the man who lacked foresight that leaders from other regions during his time all saw, all he wanted was to become the leader of a unified Nigeria and never gave a damn about the future.
Even at that he only became the ceremonial president general just like the Queen of England who has no real power but she's the ceremonial head of state.

What is all the arguments, back and forth all about?

Mahama has no right to freely speak his mind on anything, including the border closure? He has every right to speak his mind, even if you don’t agree with what he said.

For me, I love this border closure for the simple reason that other West African countries now know that Ecowas is a scam grin Now, every country will take steps to protect its domestic markets. That is why I fully support Ghanaians closing nigerian shops in Ghana. grin I support it 100% and expect nigerians to support what Ghanaians are doing? Every country has a duty to take the actions needed to protect its national interests, isn’t it? angry grin
Stop threatening us with closing shops because I thought by now you guys should've been done with that, borders remain shut

Nigeria is not an ''Island.'' The problem is that there's African Union and ECOWAS trade agreements between African and West African countries, of which Nigeria is a signatory. When you close your border it affects other innocent member countries, like Ghana, who knows nothing about rice smuggling into Nigeria.
Ghana should be talking to Benin to behave itself and stop getting the big Bros Nigeria annoyed.
Where were ECOWAS and AU when Benin was breaking the rules? As for Ghana, it should rot for all we care.
Go call late Kwame Nkrumah to come and beg too

Bro, Benin has been doing just that. I, myself has bought 4 cars from Benin at various times.

However, let me surprise you. I paid duty for only one of the cars. Indeed, Benin authorities did forward the car to Nigerian customs where I paid my duty.

The other three cars followed bush. They arrived successfully because Nigerian customs are not working. Would you in a capitalist sanity blame Benin for selling me the rest of the undutied cars?

Again, like rice, its not meant for Nigeria. Its meant for many other West African countries of which Nigeria is one. Once you understand this, you'll realize a loophole that can allow me buy something in Benin and put Niger or even Cameroun as the destination. Would Benin tell me not to send my rice to Cameroun?
Since you can pass follow bush, why asking for border reopening?

The funny thing is the govt makes it sound like a ploy to block leakages associated with rice, flour and other major imports but some strategic produce like tomatoes and onion could have been allowed in same way only 41 item were denied forex by Buhari's govt.

The man clearly wants his people to sell their harvest more than he wants to teach erring Benin and Niger a lesson.
Since you know this, why can't you go into tomato and onion farming and start making your millions just like his people? Nobody would ask if the tomato or onions is from the north or south, they must buy.

Again, if rice smuggled from Benin or Niger into Nigeria by Nigerians, that's Nigeria's fault. The rice in Benin isn't meant for you. Its meant for Togo, Ghana, Mali, Niger, Bourkina Faso, Chad, etc, where its not illegal to import rice. In fact, some years ago, it was also not illegal to import it into Nigeria. Do you think that the Benin authorities don't know much of that rice imported was destined for Nigeria?

And if terorists crossing over neighboring countries into Nigeria, that's the fault of those countries. However, I doubt this analogy of foreign boko haram and herdsmen, when they're actually Nigerians.

However, if you insist its the same as US/Mexico border situation, then copy and paste their solution as well and begin building a wall to lock out illegal immigrants, rice, terorrists. Or why are you not advocating building a wall as solution?

Unfortunately, you don't have personal experience on the Nigerian border cause if you know, you'll know human traffic continues to and fro the border. There're thousands of illegal bush roads for boko haram and herdsmen to use. Even rice smuggling continues at reduced rate. If you want to find out, just go to the market and you'll buy it.
You made some mistake here,
The reason the the Nigerian authorities is holding Benin responsible is because they are breaking ECOWAS rules pertaining importing from a third party using its seaport and allowing transportation of same to another member country.

Nigerian importers can import through Benin, Benin collects her normal tariffs and must provide escorts for those goods to the Nigerian border and they are handed over to the Nigerian customs where Nigeria collects her tariffs too but Benin wouldn't do that because they know it would discourage importers coming through their ports so they are not following up on ECOWAS rules.

Importation of rice using our seaport is not illegal, the Nigerian government increased the tariffs on rice to encourage farmers to increase production, importers seeing that importing through Nigerian ports was more expensive decided to use Benin ports where tariffs are lower and then smuggle into Nigeria.
If Benin had followed the ECOWAS rules and escorting the goods to the Nigerian border and handing over to their Nigerian customs, the closure wouldn't have happened.

I won't be surprised Lyon himself will vote for PDP if APC fields a SWner in 2023.

Facts remains that at the presidentials level, SESS bloc remains intact. At the state level the dynamics may change due to personalities, Godfatherism and in other interests.

They know that APC's victory in Bayelsa was more of personalities than parties, but because they have to look for the small grounds to destroy the SESSSE bloc which has been a source of sleepless nights for SW as they know the implication it is for their SW presidential ambition going forward to 2023, they keep lying to themselves.

They feel they can capitalize on APC victory in Bayelsa to claim 'SS hates SE and loves SW', so they can sleep better at night. My yoruba brothers are great in the art of self-delusion. grin

Even within themselves they know SESS bloc will still vote as one in 2023 and definitely not for SW at the presidentials in 2023 and it worries them badly. Unfortunately for them, Bayelsa won't be having Governorship election in 2023, so the bandwagon effect will still not help a SW presidential candidate.

Even Edo that is 100% APC controlled from top to bottom and closer to yorubas in culture and location was won by PDP in the 2019 presidential elections early this year. Fact!

Campaign experts will still remind Bayelsans that SW denied their son a second tenure and David Lyon won't be able to anything about than as it is the truth. Nobody will kill and snatch ballot boxes for any party that field a SWner in the SESSSE region in 2023.
