@topic, Filippo Monteforte just got a chance at some recognition and publicity. whether he dug the picture out of his pile of old collections or he photoshopped the picture is yet to be known. One thing is certain though, I'm not simply gonna take his word for it. Lighthning chasers spend months trying to get the right shot with tonnes of experience in doing exactly that. I'm not saying a chance shot is impossible, but i'm not gonna hit conclusions until his credibility is ascertained.

Filippo Monteforte has been taking pictures of the pope since 1991 or there about. This part of his career spans over 20 years and there is a high possibility he might have taken a chance picture of the Vatican any one time in this 20 year period and captured the image we see. It only seems right for his personal promotion to publish this picture right now and fuel the "mysterious" band wagon.



Mind you, that "pointy" stuff at the top of the dome actually doubles as a lightning rod. Given that the dome is the highest point for miles around, it isn't unusual to have lightning hit (which it actually does several times a year). Getting the opportunity to catch that view is the only remarkable thing about this picture.

This guys is Iranian American. Born and bred in Iran but converted to Islam later in his life. Met an American citizen who was on a working visit to Iran, they fell in love and he married her. He became an American citizen by marriage but still visits his family regularly in Iran. Whenever he visits Iran, he does not hide his faith involving regularly in evangelism and charity works, it should be noted that the house fellowship/eveangelism he was involved in then was not a threat until receddntly.
He was arrested the last time he was in Iran and has been detained since and his wife threatened not to come to visit him in Iran or risk been arrested.
