I doubt if all those legislators deserve 2.5% of what they currently get.

A Nigerian legislator doesn't deserve more than 350k a month basic or around 7m a year including bonuses.
When many fellow citizens are not even guaranteed 18k minimum wage.

redcliff:
what is rule of law? does it exist in Nigeria? your president is the number one offended of the constitution and rule of law. Buhari's certificate issue should be a shame to the people tallking about it. I can imagine the buffon that cameup with this silly propaganda and he literally just lit a match stick opn a small dead grass and asked Nigerians to pour petrol on it.
I for one would never believe that Buhari did not attend college. Even if he did not, he has military educational qualifications that are equivalent and higher than an SSCE. He also came on Tv to address the issue of his certificate. He released a copy of his results. What else do you Nigerians want?
.

You can believe anything. It doesn't matter. What matters is complying with the law.

If you have any evidence against GEJ or anybody, as a citizen, you would be unpatriotic and a dissapointment if you didn't submit such to appropriate authorities to invesigate.

The question can also arise whether he was even qualified to be in the army or sent for training leading to commissioning as an officer, not just a soldier. If he didn't pass Maths. So if he lied his way into the army, he could be stripped of his rank and political career gone too.

Even if GEJ broke the law and he's free, if a thief comes to your house, rob and molest people in it (God forbid) would you tell the police to not hunt them down because after all GEJ is a free man?
Politics › Re: The International Media On Buhari’s Certificate Saga, Lessons To The Our Media by AreaFada2:
MORNDEW:
what has his writeup got to do with Oputa Panel?
.

Simple. Maybe you were a baby in Buhari's regime. So your knowledge of it is what you were told.

Oputa panel was to address human right abuses by dictators during the 80s & 90s.

Appearing would have given answers to the families of Buhari's victims like the Owohs, the Ogedengbes and so on. Who Buhari killed their sons using retro-active decrees.

But he refused to be accountable. The same way he has refused to come out and show his certificate and demonstrate that he is above board. When Obama's detractors (like Donald Trump) spread rumours that he wasn't born in the USA (as ridiculous as the rumour was), he released his Hawaii-issued birth certicicate.

That's what statesmen do. Show respect to the public, supporters and detractors alike.
Politics › Re: The International Media On Buhari’s Certificate Saga, Lessons To The Our Media by AreaFada2:
nationwide1:
Op, you simply mean that Nigerian law should be bent because of Buhari. Get this straight: Because Buhari does not have school certificate but can express himself in spoken and written English does not in any way take away the fact that we have Nigerians who have suffered to study to acquire certificates and can express themselves in written and spoken English better than Buhari.

I have met many people who don't have school certificates but are good writers and speakers of English language. You cannot justify Buhari's disrespect for Nigerian law with such baseless analogy. That's how Buhari refused to appear before Oputa panel. Are you saying those who sat down to outline (in the constitution) the presentation of school certificate to INEC were fools?
.

Don't mind the OP posing as a pseudo-intellectual.

The issue of how to qualify for an elective position in our country is not a matter of US, British or Qatari law. So, CNN, BBC or Aljazeera won't care. They wouldn't even fathom an unqualified candidate going through electoral commision screening successfully. But nothing is impossible in Nigeria.

Rest assured that they (foreign media) would gleefully use it to mock us if it turns out that GMB actually committed perjury by lying under solemn oath of affidavit or wasn't qualified. Refusal to come out and clear the certificate issue demonstrates his aloof disposition and disdain for rule of law, accountability, criticism or diverse opinions. The exact reasons his subordinates gave for overthrowing him in 1985.

If Buhari had been suspected of breaching their own (foreign) law, that would be their first question. Don't forget they still see us as a people who just cannot get their acts together.

GMB's refusal to appear at OPUTA PANEL would, in a sane country, render him perpetually unelectable in the eyes of the public.
But in 9ja, we don't know our right from our left.

Even this OP, an under-50 I suppose, still doesn't believe that integrity is paramount, has to be shown & not merely parroted. That the onus is on a condidate to comply and be seen to complying with every law, irrespective of status, position or whatever.

Stop rewriting history. All this events are still fresh in our minds.
- Jonathan was unable to explain what he had done with the fat budget the National Assembly had approved for him for years.
- Jonathan and top military officers squandered security budgets and left our Soldiers with no additional training and weapons. Until APC led the public charge to call Jonathan to order.
- Those who complained were tried and sentenced to death.
- Jonathan was nonchalant in tackling Boko Haram and severally admitted it.
- PDP engineered and funded Boko Haram. Ask Gen. Azazi if you meet him.
- Jonathan is yet to return the $1,000,000,000 ($1b) he dashed Boko Haram in that fake ceasefire.
- Those who have severally been accused of having a hand in Boko Haram, are Jonathan's closest pals.

For the deaths of over 20,000 Nigerians, millions of displaced Nigerians and many scattered families, Jonathan must go for failure to act for years.
.

And you were there to hear the case when they setenced complainants to death?
I know, people with very short memory remember recent events only. They even forget the history, genesis and cause of events when it suits them. Especially when bigotry, tribalism and long throat for oil money come in the mix.

NASS has oversight function. Not you or me. Their dithering has cost lives. Except you're a world expert in weapons procurement, don't tell me what you don't know about costs. Anybody can pull out corruption allegations from their a.nus.

There's something called FOB signed by GEJ, if you want to know things, request from apprpriate departments.
Only that it's easier to be lazy, do nothing to get correct information and speculate wildly.

As for Gen. Andrew Owoye Azazi, I will pass, you please interview him if you can see him. cheesy

This just confirmed what we all have said, Jonathan was not sincere in tackling Boko Haram it is a Political tool.

We cannot reelect a man who can sacrifice the lives of over 20,000 to win votes. And millions of Nigerians displaced.

Suddenly campaigning in military uniforms does not change the fact that 1000s are dead because of his incompetence, laxity and poor-decisions. Which other part of Nigeria will he sacrifice in another 4yrs to score cheap political points?

Jonathan must go!
.

Please ask your APC people why they hijacked GEJ's request to fund weapons and delayed it for almost half a year in the National Assembly.

Also ask APC people why they lobby the Americans (supposed natural allies also fighting terrorism) not to provide weapons, so that Russia is now the one providing it.

Ask Buhari & Sultan of Sokoto what they mean by "A fight against Boko is a fight against the North". Something that GEJ had to carefully consider in a tribalistic & bigotted country like ours.

Also ask why Northern elements condemned the State of emergency declared in the North East.
Ask why Northern elements have used some soldiers to sabotage the fight against Boko.

And ask why the sponsors of Boko do so.

Ask why Northerners who ruled for over 40 years could not educate their people, thereby providing a large pool of talakawas for Boko recruitment.

WELL, because they want to blame the misfortune/death of fellow Nigerians in the hands of Boko on GEJ AND USE IT as a spring board to get power & grab oil money.

Patriotic Politicians worldwide blame terrorists squarely for their heinous crimes, NOT their government officials. In 9ja, cynical & unpatriotic mudslinging politicians turn it to blame game to further their ambitions.

It's a very delicate situation. It can go either way. A new country, pressures of job, bills, studies can be much. Being pregnant I'm not sure if that's conducive. But if you're both resilient, it will pay off long term.

Be aware that you may never return to live in Nigeria ever again.

If it was UK, he could travel first and get his PG in just one year. There are jobs for highly skilled people only the current immigration rules are quite tough. I presume a year is not too much to be apart and you can even visit him in that period.

Don't quit your job easily. If you can take a year off work, you can use that period to test the waters in Canada.

Ideally, your man should study first while you seek job, nurse baby & maybe learn basic French. After PG he can earn enough to enable you to upgrade.

I'd say consider things carefully: costs, accommodation (very important), job prospects, opinion of relatives there and so on.

And pray over it.
