Jealousy and envy over what?

If not for the noise, I don't think I would have even noticed the guy.

It was like when Abacha died, and every Nigerian was rejoicing. Would you call that envy or relief.

It was relief?

I feel for her. The frustration of having to read under non-conducive condition can run one mad.

May God save us from all these loud devilish neighbours. I used to have one who played his music so loud without any respect for the peace and quiet of his neighbours. At least, three people (including myself) had at different times approached him to politely ask him to consider us. To make matters worse, he would bring equally loud friends home and they would sing to the music at the top of their voices, sometimes long past midnight.

We could not hide our happiness when one day, NEPA brought one high current that ruined his sound system. I heard even his smart TV and PlayStation fried. We made him realize that we didn't feel one bit of pity for him. Our mockery was not hidden, we made it right in his inconsiderate face. Until he left our compound, he could not recover from the loss.

I don't see us beating Equatorial Guinea. I see a draw at most.

But the Ivorians were not that great yesterday against a lowly rated Guinea Bissau, so I am hopeful that we can at least get out of this group if we avoid a loss, and try to at least win a game.

Yes you are right. Oliseh wasn't better than the late Muda Lawal, Mikel, Okocha or Mutiu Adepoju. They have been many other fantastic midfielders in the past who had character and they weren't as quarrelsome as the conceited Oliseh

Stop mentioning Mikel alongside Oliseh.

Mikel is a baby midfielder beside Oliseh. It is disrespectful.

And to even say Mutiu was a better midfielder than Oliseh is laughable.

Or maybe you should tell us what Mutiu had over Oliseh in terms of depths and technicality.

You're joking right? Oliseh was very much average

Oliseh was average?

I used to think like you until I watched tapes of the Green Eagles where Oliseh was throwing long passes from deep in Nigeria's half and he was making the ball go anywhere he wanted it to go. He would tidy up Okocha's lapses, and throw one long pass almost across the whole pitch and the ball would simply find any of Yekini or Amuneke or any of the strikers we had then.

He played in those days when the light was always heavily on strikers or attacking midfielders. Despite being a defensive midfielder, he was voted the third best player in Africa in 1998.

Without you saying it we know you're saying the truth...

Oliseh was trying to prove to Nigerians that he was "the perfect perfectionist"

But the image he was trying to create destroyed him even till today...

Enyeama, Mikel even emenike have More legendary status in super eagles than him

I don't care if you hate Oliseh, but to say Mikel and Emenike have legendary status than him is just hate taken too far.

I can even forgive you if you mention Mikel, but to add Emenike to it is just the height of it. Who is Emenike beside Oliseh? Seems like you have taken too much wine.

The only legendary figure of the three is Enyeama.

As per the story, we all know Oliseh to be strong-headed. He was himself a rebellious captain and caucus leader who had a lot of player power/clout in the Super Eagles (who took after Stephen Keshi.) That was why he was forcefully sent into retirement in 2002 because even the NFF could not clip his wings.

Nevertheless, he was a technically gifted player. Arguably the best defensive midfielder we have had.

Romance / Re: Single Mother Of Three Joyful As She Remarries At The Age Of 38 by aremubabs: 6:19pm On Jan 11
This is not the whole story.

The man probably has kids from a previous marriage too.

I don't know whether this type of marriage works, though.

I just imagine that there would be a lot of friction.

And I have not seen a single mother who is not ill-mannered. So, I fear them a lot. In fact, I avoid them.

I have had three of them for neighbours. They were usually promiscuous, maybe because they needed money to meet their needs. There was one who looked particularly old with one of her kids already in secondary school. The men whom she brought home were always mature men loaded with cash based on the cars they drove. Yet, her life never seemed to improve. She was always looking broke and bitter.

I don't see what the issue is about this matter.

Putting a faith injunction for Christian threads defeats the purpose of Christianity.

I don't know why today's Christians are so petty, always wanting to drag irrelevant issues with Muslims when both religions clearly have different goals.

It is laughable how people believe that this decision would somehow help to end or reduce tribalism in Nigeria.

There is no straightforward, fantastic way to combat tribalism in Nigeria. Even when we practiced regionalism in Nigeria in the 60s, there was still tribalism.

We established NYSC to combat it, NYSC failed woefully.

Seun is right to sanitize the forum. But those who feel that this would reflect on the real Nigerian consciousness are asking for far too much.

You must be a joke.

The greatest Africa player is JJ Okocha.
Whatever he is doing with his endorsement is his problem.

Mikel Obi is overrated and he has not achieved 50% of Okocha's achievement or doesn't have 50% Okocha's skill.

Mikel is far below... jealous kid.

How is Okocha the greatest African player?

Because he was a skillful dribbler?

We might as well say Finidi is the greatest since he was at a time regarded as the best right winger in the world.

Okocha and Mikel followed the same football path.

They both had the potential to be great, but they messed it up.

Okocha was slightly better on his own path. His own problem came from moving to Bolton from PSG when he could have picked a better option. All that potential was wasted on aimless (childish) dribbling and showboating. Good for him that he has an AFCON gold and an Olympics gold. Otherwise, it would have been a less memorable career for him in terms of prestigious awards.

As for Mikel, he went from being someone that two big English clubs were fighting over to a bench warmer. Mikel got to Chelsea and began to live a reckless life, drinking, partying and missing trainings. He was also cherry-picking matches he featured in for the Super Eagles. But thank God for him that he came back to his senses quickly enough and began to win laurels with Chelsea. Imagine that Mikel moved to Chelsea and maintained his discipline from the beginning, the man would have been among Africa's greatest.

It's like Nigerians like calling things (and even people) twice. I saw a post on Facebook asking for such names. See a long list oh! I'm surprised.

Please, add your own to the list. Don't spoil the show oh!

Things that Nigerians Call Twice

Moi moi
Chin chin
Puff puff
Woto woto😭
Tom Tom
Mymy
Kai kai
Fufu
Juju
Bum bum
Kwuli kwuli
Toto
Jedi jedi
Tummy Tummy
Dodo
Wee wee
Krokro
Bobo
Yori yori

Many of these words are not called twice. They are one single word. Fufu, juju, dodo, bobo are pronounced as disyllabic words.

As for some of the other words like tom tom, they are not peculiar to Nigerians. Tom tom is called tom tom the world over. There is a type of drum called tom drum or tom tom drum which originated from Asia. Tom Tom is also a brand of menthol flavored candy.

Bumbum is not a Nigerian word. It is a Brazilian slang for women's buttocks (especially, big buttocks).

What the heck is tummy tummy

However, I agree with the rest like chin chin, puff puff, Jedi Jedi, etc.

Romance / Re: She Wants To Relocate To Another City Because Of Me by aremubabs: 4:38pm On Jan 03

I met her when I went for service in Rivers state some years back. I live in Lagos. After the service year ,I have to go back to Lagos .
Now, of recent, we initiated a conversation that she still wants me and is willing to relocate from P.H to my base in Lagos.
I am still single. So, is she .
However, there are other women in the picture (there is always some in a man's life, right? whether you are single or married ?)
I am not committed to any of them though.
Should I encourage her to shoot her shot by relocating back to Lagos?

Your story is not clear.

You said she wants to relocate to Lagos because she said she still wants you. What sort of relationship existed between the two of you before you returned to Lagos?

And the most important thing. You didn't tell us how you feel about her. We don't know how deeply you hold her, and yet you want us to decide for you.

Moreover, you don't sound like you are ready for a relationship with her.

My advice is that you decide within yourself whether you want the relationship or not. You should also decide what you want out of the relationship before you throw yourself into it.

If all you want is sex, my advice is that you don't encourage her to relocate. Because if she makes such a big effort for someone who is not that into her, we might one day wake to read about your violent demise on Nairaland.

Your story did not include important information regarding her intended relocation, so, for now, I cannot say more than all I have said.

Family / Re: Why Ladies Refuse To Build With Guys !! by aremubabs: 1:55pm On Jan 02
I believe that if a girl truly stays with a guy when he is broke, he would appreciate her except he is a bad person.

Because some girls don't usually truly stay with a guy when he is broke. You can't be verbally abusive and broke shaming the guy at every opportunity, and then he makes it, and kicks you off, and you start shouting, "after all I did for you!"

You are fond of comparing him to other guys, you speak down on him, you keep male friends but frown at him even mistakenly touching a girl, all because he is broke. You make it seem like he should be grateful that you are with him. You expect him to worship you, to not exchange words with you because he is broke and should be lucky to have you. Then, he makes it, and kicks your abusive ass out cold, and then you start lamenting that you were there for him.

I have seen the types of ladies outside today shouting they they want ready-made men. I laugh when I listen to some of them. They are just so empty, that I wonder if even a broke guy would look in their way for a serious relationship. What a broke guy and a rich guy would want from these girls is the same --- SEX.

Oyetola's only mistake was saving money while workers were crying for their entitlements. That was why he failed. In economics, you increase savings in the time of plenty, and decrease savings in the time of little.

Because he was saving heavily, he did not invest heavily in infrastructures (like Aregbesola), so the people did not feel him.

Chimamanda is beginning to struggle like Chinua Achebe.

Years after her 3rd novel, she can only come up with a children's book.

Reminds me of Achebe's 20 years of not producing a novel. About his collection of short stories, he confessed that he could not produce a major work yet.

20 solid years. But when Soyinka won the 1986 Nobel Prize, some ignorant fellows claimed that it should have been given to an Achebe who had not published any major work in 20 years.

The same thing might be happening again. Adichie rushed her gifts too, now it seems like she has run herself dry.
