Politics2023: ‘Placeholder’ Has No Place In Our Constitution – INEC by ArewaNorth(op): 6:24pm On Jun 20, 2022
The concept of “placeholder” for vice-presidential candidates has no place in the constitution of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

This is according to INEC’s Commissioner for Information and Voter Education, Festus Okoye.

INEC had set June 17 as the deadline for the nomination of vice-presidential candidates following the completion of presidential primaries of political parties.

In order to beat the deadline, some parties submitted names of vice-presidential candidates whom they described as placeholders.

Daily Trust had reported how Kabiru Masari, a politician from Katsina, was named as the running mate to Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), but some political analysts had said the APC welfare secretary is a “placeholder” before a final candidate is named.

Reacting in a chat with ARISE TV on Monday, Okoye said the “placeholder is a unique Nigerian invention” for which the commission’s law has no provision.

Okoye said, “The constitution makes it very clear that you cannot run alone as a presidential candidate and must nominate an associate to run with you for that position, and as far as INEC is concerned, the presidential candidates have submitted their associates to run with them in the presidential election.

“As far as we are concerned, there’s no form submitted by the presidential candidate where they said ‘we’re submitting this person’s name as a place or space holder.

“The issue of space or place holder is a unique Nigerian invention that has no place in our constitutional and legal framework.

“Political parties’ candidates have submitted names of associates to run with them, and that is the position of the law as at today and nothing has changed. For there to be a substitution of a candidate, the vice-presidential candidate must write to INEC, with a sworn affidavit stating that he is withdrawing from the race within the time frame provided by the law. That’s the only way there can be a substitution of candidates.”

Politics70% Of Nigerian Politicians Are Lunatics – Peter Obi by ArewaNorth(op): 1:03am On Jun 20, 2022
Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has said most of the politicians in the corridors of power have no reason to be there, describing politics in Nigeria as a case where lunatics have taken over the asylum.

He said this Sunday at the Men of Valour conference with the theme: “Navigating the corridors of power, the church, and the politics” organised by the Revival House of International Church (RHOGIC), Abuja.

The former governor of Anambra State, who described 70 percent of politicians in Nigeria as “lunatics”, said only a lunatic in government would steal N80 billion of the citizens money for personal use.

He said Nigeria would continue to suffer unless these “lunatics” were flushed out and replaced with competent people at the next elections.

He said: “We can’t allow this gangsterism to continue, Nigerians should take back their country. 70 percent of those who are in politics today should not have any reason to be there. I have said it, politics in Nigeria is a case where lunatics have taken over the asylum.

“This is the only country where the worst is leading. I was a trader and gradually entered into politics. When you take far more than you need, you are sick.

“How do you explain that one person took N80 billion, it is not greed, it is sickness. When you take one billion that is greed but when you take N80 billion that is sickness. Mad people have taken over our politics. If we get young people with the competence and capacity to be there, things will change.”

Obi, while speaking on whether a third force could take power from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said the people will decide.

On the 2023 general elections, Obi said prayers alone could not salvage the country.

According to him, Nigerians have played their religious roles enough and, therefore, it is time to take action by mobilising and voting for their candidate of choice.

“We have prayed enough, it is time to act. With these people in power? You can pray from now until anytime, they won’t go until you chase them out. So, it is time to act, not just pray. It is time for us to close the church and deal with these people.”

Obi also urged the youths not to make a profession out of politics.

On his part, the National Secretary of the Young Peoples Party( YPP), Vidiyano Bamaiyi, described 75 percent of politicians in Nigeria as “political bandits”.

Senator Albert Bassey, while speaking, said the country could eliminate money politics only through direct primaries.

PoliticsRe: Why The North Will Not Vote For Atiku Heavily by ArewaNorth: 4:30pm On Jun 19, 2022
garfield1:
The north has always rallied round a radical Muslim,a pious, sharia driven fellow usually Hausa fulani or kanuri.first was usman danfodio, then ahmadu bello and to an extent late gen yaradua and maitama sule and then buhari.kwankwaso is gradually getting such followershio in the mould of aminu kano...atiku does not fit that features,he is seen as too liberal minded and western minded unlike conservative buhari.moreover,he is not from the core north nor from the Muslim dominated states.Adamawa is evenly divided...

Atiku contested in 2007 and won no state.he lost the entire northeast while buhari won some states in the north west.in 2019,he won Adamawa narrowly same as taraba.borno and yobe literally buried him whilst giving him his lowest votes...

Again, the north have read the mood of the
nation and seen that power must go down south for Nigeria to remain as one which favours the north more.highest they will do is extract some firm commitment from tinubu not to rock the boat...

Again, the north knows that it is the turn of the south and they are honest people.if they were so powerdrunk, they would have voted atiku in 2019..
Again, apc is so entrenched in the north and pdp weak...

Honestly, most people making analysis about North are extremely ignorant about the North. Among all the people u listed only Danfodiyo is devout Muslim all the rest are not in any way Islamic fundamentalist.
It is the fault of North for allowing ignorant people like you to write their history.
Go back to history of all the people u mentioned, Northerners like honest, kind, reputable, and gentle people who likes committing themselves to toward the development of masses. If u want to deceive ordinary Northerner just pretend to have the affirmentioned characteristics and see how u will gather mamoth followers.
Tell me one of those people u mentioned who wasn't very good servant to the Northern masses.
Mind you, Ahmadu Bello's being son of Sultan didn't make him very religious. Many of those you mentioned have some attitudes that are very unacceptable in Islam but their attitudes and commitment toward their people helped them won the minds of their people.
I recently l sent that some Christians think if you just pray, go to Mecca makes one devout Muslim but is much more than that and almost all those u mentioned don't do more than that.
Going by my assertion, I hope I can convince you to know that most people don't like Atiku because he wasn't good to his village not even Adamawa or North and he has never been. Ordinary road to his village, Ganye was death trap for more than 16yrs until Buhari recently rehabilitated it. Atiku don't like masses at all and has no aorta of concern for ordinary people, therefore, no way he can be loved in the North!
Go to Kano and hear what people say about Dangote, most people don't like him because his wealth wasn't felt much in the life of Kano people in terms of wealth creation and employment. Mind you Dangote and Abdussamad BUA are more religious than all those u mentioned except Danfodiyo. In BUA's family u can't own a car or drive until you memorised Qur'an, very religious family. Dangote's family are product of Almajiri system with deep root of religious fundamentalism!

Their hatred for Wike was because he told all those who betrayed the party in 2015 what they did was wrong, hence they were not happy they thought by scheming him out would do good to them but they have made their Situation worse, Atiku should not forget that the North still see him as a Southern Cameroonian claiming full Fulani blood

PoliticsNNPP-LP Alliance: Obi Or Kwankwaso Can Accept To Be Vice - Agbo Major by ArewaNorth(op): 7:19am On Jun 19, 2022
The national publicity secretary of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Dr. Agbo Major, has said alliance talks between the party and the Labour Party (LP) are progressing smoothly and Dr Rabiu Kwankwaso, who is currently the presidential candidate of the NNPP may accept being Peter Obi’s running mate.

Obi is the presidential candidate of the LP and there have been speculations in some quarters that he might run a joint ticket with Kwankwaso as his running mate.

Asked to verify the proposed alliance, Major said talks were still ongoing and he wouldn’t want to speculate

He, however, said Kwankwaso or Obi could accept being each other’s vice.

Major, who spoke to Daily Trust on Sunday via phone said, “By the time we are done with the discussions, Nigerians will be happy, whichever way it turns out to be.”

Ignorance is a big disease worse than cancer. Come to North and see Obas and Igwes in almost all Emirates of the North. In some Emirates like Gumel they even ride horses on Sallah day.
Honestly, the ethno-religious problem of Nigeria are mostly from people who never set their foot outside their states.

Most problem of Igwe kingship title given to Igbos in the North lead to problem of diverse recognition; some are loyal to someone from Enugu or Anambra, that is their common problem in the North!

PoliticsRe: The YORUBAS Must Beware Of Tinubu's Tribal Tactics by ArewaNorth: 3:30pm On Jun 18, 2022
EmilolaOla:
I have now come to full realization that the Yorubas are not voicing their dissatisfaction with the candidacy of TINUBU enough. APC gave YORUBA TINUBU when a better and sound, charismatic person like Osinbajo exist and there seem to be silent prayer and support for TINUBU to get to Aso rock by people of Yoruba extraction, except I'm mistaking silence for YES.

If majority of the YORUBAs are satisfied as they aren't talking about him, it's probably they don't understand the implications of supporting him and the gravity of silent ignorance in an election year.

Only few are somewhat bold, vocal and open enough to back their support of TINUBU with words and actions and in this group are predominantly Yoruba who practise islamic religion like TINUBU and we understand religion is a huge rallying point for political sentiment and participation even when no merit or logical basis can be adduced.

If TINUBU is the wish of the silent majority and a vocal few, I can conclude this support is based on religious affiliation, tribal bent, or naivety, which are worst reasons to support a candidate.
And if his charismatic and executive appeal is the reason for his support then they are being psychologically and intellectually naive by allowing his dark triad personality to charm their emotions into submission.

But I think the basic questions the YORUBAs should be asking about TINUBU Is if he truly represents the yearning and aspirations of an average Yoruba person.

For me, Tinubu wants to use tribal rhetorics to whip support from the Yoruba base when he does not represent the aspirations of the Yoruba in any sense.

I can only liken TINUBU to the YORUBA aristocratic chiefs of 17th century who orchestrated and mediated the sale of YORUBA sóns and daughters as slaves to the White men across the Atlantic into the Americas.
TINUBU does not care about human or capital development of the YORUBAs. He never. Lekki Toll gate owned by TINUBU was the blood scene of massacre and tears of YORUBA sóns and daughters right in Lagos, his property.

What did he say or do till date? Nothing, except asking what they had gone there to do, such callousness!
TINUBU checks all boxes of a slave master waiting and masquerading to finally sell the whole of the Yoruba into Atlantic trade as slaves, just the way he has singly tucked the prosperity of Lagos into his pocket. What a dangerous man to allow control our fate and patrimony.
..
We had better start asking questions and disallow religion or emotions from beclouding our senses, or else we will miss Buhari if TINUBU gets there.
I always wonder how and when I tested PYO to prove to us that he is better than Tinubu.
Bei g professor can't make him a great leader because there are Professors who can't even manage ordinary Departments in the universiti effectively. Ganduje, Ayade, Fayemi, Al have PhDs which miracl did they performed?
Stop being mentally inferior by assessing PYO because of his eloquence. Under Buhari administration Amaechi, Fashola and Pantani have proven more competence than PYO going by how they brought tremendous succe in their portfolios!

The same people will pray for better Nation and steal in their work places. They hate looters not because of their looting but because they're not the ones looting. They feign devotional to their faith but have relatively zero reflection of their religious teachings in their actions.

But u want to force hijab on christians schools disrupting their uniform dresscode...

Why are u feigning ignorance when it is clear the debate is all abt Govt and private schools not allowing students to wear hijab and to some extent putting Christians in strategic positions in ministry of education just to frustrate the Muslims and perpetuate their intolerance attitude.

No school has the right to advertise for admission into her school and contravene the law of land which uphold freedom of religion. Stopping dodging the reality.

Many centuries before the coming of whites Muslims were using Ajami (Arabic text) to read and write and have Islamic schools across the Nation but Christian invaders, colonisers stripped us off all these long years investment and imposed English on us, did we complain or accuse anyone of forcing religion or Christian version of lifestyle on us despite clear imposition?

PoliticsRunning Mate: You’re A Betrayer Of Highest Order, Edwin Clark, Attack Okowa by ArewaNorth(op): 3:22pm On Jun 17, 2022
The Southern and Middle Belt Leaders’ Forum (SMBLF) has rejected the governor of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa for accepting his nomination as the running mate to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming 2023 general elections.

Phis was contained in a statement signed by leaders of four groups which include Chief Edwin Clark, for the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders’ Forum (SMBLF) and the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF); Chief Ayo Adebanjo, leader of Afenifere, Dr. Dru Bitrus, the President-General, Middle Belt Forum and Prof. George Obiozor, the President-General, Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide.

JUST IN: Police find lady who tweeted location of ‘kidnappers’, debunk abduction of FCT residents
The statement read in part, “It bears recalling that the 17 governors of the Southern states of Nigeria, both of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), under the Chairmanship of the Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN, met in Asaba, the capital of Delta State on May 11, 2021, and took far-reaching decisions, including that, based on the principles of fairness, equity and justice, the presidency should rotate to the South at the end of the statutory eight years of President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure.

“And this very Governor Okowa was the host of that historic meeting. The Southern governors later met again in Lagos, on July 5, where they reaffirmed their decision, and again in Enugu, on September 16, to restate the call that the presidency should rotate to the South in 2023.

“It is unspeakable and quite disappointing that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, who is currently Chairman of the South-South Governors’ Forum, and a native of Owa-Alero in Ika North-East Local Government Area (one of the Igbo-speaking areas) of Delta State, would exhibit such barefaced unreliability.

“It is, therefore, most unfortunate that the Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa who should know better, accepted his appointment as running mate to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. We do not have anything personal against Ifeanyi Okowa but his action is treacherous and tantamount to a despicable pawning of the political future of the people of Southern Nigeria.

“Governor Okowa has, by his action, betrayed the trust reposed on him by his colleagues; the southern governors, the entire good people of southern Nigeria and all well-meaning Nigerians. He has made himself persona non grata, not only, with SMBLF but all citizens who treasure our oneness and yearn for a more united and peaceful Nigeria”

The group said it rejected Okowa, his vice president slot, describing the governor’s action as “a betrayal of the highest order.”

The statement added, “And that this is not a matter of loyalty to one’s political party, but rather a greedy, parochial and unpatriotic action, committed against the general interest of his State, Delta State, the Niger Delta region, and Southern Nigeria. It is, certainly, also not in the interest of the nation at large.”

PoliticsSupreme Court Approves Use Of Hijab In Lagos Schools by ArewaNorth(op): 1:32pm On Jun 17, 2022
The Supreme Court has affirmed the rights of Muslims Female Students in Lagos state to wear Hijab to school without harassment or discrimination.

In a majority decision, Nigeria’s apex court gave the ruling on Friday in Abuja.

Among those on the panel were Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, Justice John Inyang Okoro, Justice Uwani Aji, Justice Mohammed Garba, Justice Tijjani Abubakar, and Justice Emmanuel Agim.

While six ruled in favour of the use of hijab, one dissented.

The Lagos State Government had in February 2017 approached the Supreme Court to challenge the July 21, 2016 judgment of the Court of Appeal which reinstated the use of hijab by Muslim pupils in Lagos public primary and secondary schools.

This was after the state government sought to stay the execution of the judgment at the Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal but failed.

The case, CA/L/135/15, is between the Lagos State Government, Miss Asiyat AbdulKareem (through her father), Miss Moriam Oyeniyi and the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria.

A five-man special appellate court panel, presided by Justice A.B. Gumel, had on July 21, 2016, overruled the October 17, 2014 judgment of Justice Modupe Onyeabo of the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja, which banned the use of hijab in public primary and secondary schools in Lagos State.

While striking down Justice’s Onyeabo’s verdict, the Justice Gumel panel had held that the ban on hijab was discriminatory against Muslim pupils in the state.

The panel upheld the Muslim students’ contention that the ban violated their rights to freedom of thought, conscience, religion, dignity of human persons and freedom from discrimination guaranteed by the 1999 Constitution.

Justice Gumel also held that wearing the hijab was an Islamic injunction and an act of worship required of Muslims.

He said the use of hijab by Muslim pupils could not cause disunity, distraction and discrimination against students of other faiths as declared by the lower court judge.

Reacting to the judgement, the Amir (President) of MSSN in Lagos State, Miftahudeen Thanni, said that with the judgement, students in public primary and secondary schools in Lagos State can now wear hijab to school without harassment.

He warned teachers and government officials against harassment of female Muslim students, urging that the Supreme Court judgement should put a stop to the “undue” punishment of students willing to wear the hijab.

Thanni, however, assured the state government and residents of peaceful co-existence, noting that Muslim students won’t abuse the judgement.

According to him, the judgement has deepened the students’ and Nigerians’ confidence in the judiciary.

He said, ” The judgement simply means that though hijab is not mandatory in Lagos schools, Muslim students who wish to wear it are free to do so and legally allowed.

“We are a law-abiding organisation and we will continue to uphold the law of the land. We applaud the judgement. The position of the law is very clear on the subject matter. This matter once more assures us that all hope is not lost on having a modest society.

“The government should not be waging war against youths who chose to cover their unclothedness while encouraging those who walk naked and engage in illicit acts in public.

“It gladdens to see that the injunction which the LASG is using as a basis to deny the rights of Muslim students has been decided by the apex court.

“We hereby urge all stakeholders to be law-abiding for a peaceful implementation of the judgement. There should be no violation of human rights against our students while we expect an immediate implementation of the judgement in all schools across the state. We urge the government not to delay implementation.”

While congratulating and thanking Muslims and the legal team on the recent victory, Thanni said, “We congratulate the entire Muslim Ummah (community) and urge our Muslim students to uphold decency and cleanliness which are the hallmark of Islam while exercising their rights. We also pray to Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the late Alhaji Adetola Kassim (SAN) who started this case without collecting a dime from us.”

Look at the lame argument, that Malami man is giving. Makes no sense at all. The truth is, as long as the fulanis remain in power, they will never agree to restructuring, talk less of secession. How can a parasite agree to its termination by its host?

In 2023, make it count by voting right.
Read this and see who brought us out of
true Federal system of Govt and imposed unitary system on us. We can't be killed in a coup, went to civil war all because of some gr edy people and expect us to go back to the system that U l robbed a from easily.

Do you know that when Tafawa Balewa was Prime Minister of Nigeria;
Chief of Army Staff was from SE
Chief of Naval Staff was from SE
IG of Police was from SE
Chief of Defence Staff was from SE
Internal Affairs Minister SE
External Affairs Minister SE
Education Minister South SE
Many other key ministries to SE
Parliament President SE
Unilag VC from SE
The University of Ibadan VC from SE
North resisted same at ABU!
Still, there was dissatisfaction by SE, the officers from the region killed this same Balewa!!!!
Out of all the most senior officers in Nigeria, SE has 37, none was killed. 8 from the north, all of them were killed. 10 from the west, 2 were killed.
Then Ironsi imposed a unitary system of government on the country so that everything can belong to a region who snatched it!
We must know our history so that when we want to make corrections, we will not end up concealing the truth. This has nothing to do with tribalism but everything to do with the truth.....at times when lies litter the streets. There is a tendency to think those are truths and facts.
*What follows are facts that can be cross-checked for authenticity!"*

Prof. Ben Nwabueze was the man who drafted the constitution that took away powers from regions and handed it to the central government because his brother Aguiyi Ironsi was the head of state then but some ignorant or selfish people limit their accusations to only Abdussalam Abubakar constitution that give birth to current democratic govt. Today, they're shouting restructuring that they helped to destroy. We won’t forget.”*.

The Igbo man is known to enjoy blaming the Hausa fulanis, Yorubas and indeed every other Nigerian tribe and Lord Luggard/Britain for their seeming claim of being in third class citizen status in Nigeria or refuse to let them go. In their perpetual attempts to play the victim card, they recount the political events of Nigeria from 1914 to the present in a half-baked and highly selective manner which cleverly avoids the mention of the roles played by their elite who by all natural laws of judgement were actually responsible for the woes that befell not only the Igbo race but the entire Nigeria nation.

However, the national archives have the complete and unedited history of Nigeria regarding the political events beginning way back from even before 1914.
Shortly after the 1914 Amalgamation of the Northern and Southern Protectorates, it started getting clear that the country was bound to fail as the amalgamation in question was done with colonial fiat without the consent and consensus of the different tribes which were over 300. This prompted the political leaders to start asking for de-amalgamation so as to forestall the future danger which the forced amalgamation portended.

To that end, Ahmadu Bello, speaking on behalf of the Northern protectorate in 1944 described the amalgamation as "The mistake of 1914 which if allowed to remain will ultimately lead to unstoppable bloodshed and a failed country".

Awolowo, speaking on behalf of the Yorubas and Western minorities, described Nigeria as a mere geographical expression not qualified to be called a country let alone a nation. Awolowo added that if the amalgamation could not be reversed, then Nigeria should be structured as a strictly federal state so as to enable each tribe enjoy autonomy this freedom from being dominated by any one single tribe.

But Nnamdi Azikiwe, speaking for the Igbos, denounced Awolowo and Ahmadu Bello, terming them ethnic champions. He accused them of nursing a sectional agenda against the unity of Nigeria, and he declared further that the Unity of Nigeria was non-negotiable.

After moving the motion for independece in 1953, Anthony Enahoro proposed that a secession clause should be incorporated into the future constitution of Nigeria so as to give legal backing for any tribe to peacefully exit the forced union if it feels marginalized in future. According to Enahoro, such provision in our constitution would instill in all Nigeria's future leaders the fear of the consequences of misgovernance.

However, Azikiwe, speaking on behalf of Igbos, rose against him in the parliament and labelled him an agent of disunity, and enemy of Nigeria. At a later date, Awolowo too made a case for secession clause, but Azikiwe again resisted him and instigated the colonial authorities to threaten him and Enahoro with charges of treasonable felony if they didn't stop proposing secession clause for the future constitution.

While Azikiwe did all these, Igbos cheered and urged him on because they felt the future Nigeria was theirs to dominate and lord it over every other tribe.

Before independece, Tafawa Balewa too had in a public speech described Nigeria as a British experiment and Nigeria's unity as a British intention which Nigerians themselves don't believe in. But Azikiwe kicked and demonized him too. Had Azikiwe co-operated with Enahoro, Awolowo, Ahmadu Bello and Tafawa Balewa about the secession clause, Nigeria perhaps would not have been this misgoverned.

It should be noted that there were many Igbo members of the parliament in which Azikiwe fought against Awolowo's secession clause proposal in the link above, but not a single one of them rose against Azikiwe or condemned him.
Igbos initially never wanted to hear anything like secession in Nigeria because they so much believed, though falsely, that they were the most educated tribe.
As an evidence of Igbo domination agenda hence their initial resistance to the idea of secession; here is a quote:
"From all indications, the god of us Igbos have destined us to rule the whole of Africa"
Northerners have clearly known this & will never succumb to cheap political trick, how can u call us backward and at the same time asking us to go back to 1963 constitution talkless of even amending the current constitution?

Malami is part of the fulanization
For him the fulani agenda comes first .
But Malami is pure Hausa. I will see how you will reason beyond 2023. Since our return to democracy only Buhari is Fulani and u started spreading propaganda of fulanization and Islamization because u are excessively dogmatic.
You either side with Fulani again or u we the real reasons beyond 2023!
