And you think Nigerians are happy with the performance of APC in 8 years?
Nigerian Govts only performed well between 1960-1966, the rest are grand corruption and misplaced priorities. With what is on ground and the antecedents of Kwankwaso, Peter Obi, Tinubu and Atiku I don't think there is much choice left for us.
Party isn't the problem, we need to go for individuals with vision and mission, tested and trusted no matter how little they performed, let the citize choose the best among them...

You people think religion is the business of politicians but it isn't. Religion is just a tool use to divide masses in favour of their interest.
Is this the first time we have a Christian President? Intact Christians ruled for 14yrs since our return to democracy in 23yrs. Those categories of people u mentioned will only reject a candidate when he isn't satisfying their interest. All those Emirs are well educated, well exposed and civilised people who retired to the permanent throne in their kingdoms. Go and check the lifestyle of Fmr Kano Emir, Sunusi and Sultan among others before they retired to the throne.

First, APC failed to deliver, Secondly religion will play a huge role.

As for party, do parties have ideology ? People move from party to party everyday.

The north will always put regional interest ahead of party interest.

Why do you think Jonathan lost the elections? Because the North felt he should not contest. The Northerners in PDP left and joined APC to defeat PDP.

The same Northerners in APC can leave to join PDP to defeat APC. Its regional interest before party interest in the North.
GEJ won in 2011 and he got the requisite percentage in almost all Northern states that made him won. However, the scenario is different in this case. North and SW formed APC because GEJ broke the promise he made not to contest in 2015 and gave North the chance as part of the party's zoning agreement.
Many Northerners today are tired of their kinsmen in a position that is not in anyway beneficial to them, after all Not the ruled for almost 8yrs. Competence and issue based campaign will be the major ground in the North come 2023...

The north keeps playing on the Souths intelligence. They have come together to give the south APC Ticket, So you will not say they are unfair.

Now they have done their part. They will now use the funds of the southern candidates to work for Atiku Abubakar.

If they deny the South Ticket in APC now, they south will unify under one party. But if they betray you on the day of elections, you are helpless.

Their plans will be executed on the day of elections, not party primaries.

Theirs is to give you ticket, but not responsible for winning the elections.

Better Support peter obi as the southern candidate, or experience the worste betrayal in history on the election day.

Like i said earlier, this election is between Atiku and peter Obi.
You people are extremely ignorant of politics. How can a politician sacrifice his party in which he has power, capacity, position and privileges for another party because of ethnic or regional bias?
It is good for u to know that grassroot politicians belong to social class that binds them with common interest (power and money) while religion, ethnicity and region play no significant role in pursuance of their interest. You need to wait and see how the dust of this primary election will calm down and how Tinubu will flourish in he North.
What I can't guarantee u is, Buhari underperformed below the huge expectations of people and this has consequently affected the support APC used to have. Go and see how Northerners are castigating Buhari in every news publish on social media, however Atiku will definitely receive a huge set back to the advantage of APC; Kwankwaso was in PDP in 2019 election and his large crowd of supporters who are mostly PDP members will give Atiku a big blow coupled with Peter Obi's Labour Party which will definitely hurt the chances of PDP.
Tinubu may not get the support Buhari used to have but you'll be disappointed!

PoliticsRe: THROWBACK 2016: Buhari'II Try To Impose Another Fulani Man As Successor -Ajayi by ArewaNorth: 6:03pm On Jun 07, 2022
hisexcellency34:
Four days before his death on November 4, 2016, Sir Olanihun Ajayi granted an interview with Nigerian Tribune in which he predicted what will happen at the end of President Buhari’s tenure.

In the interview, Ajayi, like a seer predicted that President Buhari will humiliate Asiwaju Bola Tinubu who played a prominent role in his emergence as president. He said Buhari will not play the game as it ought to be played as he will hold on to tenaciously to power and will also do everything to ensure that another Fulani succeeds him.

In his words “Well, I’m not surprised because when he was about to assume the presidency of this country, your colleagues in other newspapers came to me and I told them point-blank that Buhari would not be able to play the game as it ought to be played”.

“ What I realised is that, he is a highly disciplined person, being a soldier, but we saw what he did at PTF. Buhari is a Fulani man”.

“The Fulanis are very conscious of power and they don’t joke with power. And of course, Buhari’s treatment of Tinubu has just started. It could be worse for Tinubu realising the political power Tinubu possesses and how he exercises such power”.

“But then, the Fulani are more adroit and more clever about that. I’m sure Nigeria is not unlikely to regret Buhari becoming president because at the end his term, he will leave no stone unturned to ensure that he is succeeded by a Fulani man. I wouldn’t be surprised”.

On Monday, despite the insistence of Northern governors on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) that power should rotate to the South, the national chairman of the party, Abdullahi Adamu announced Senate President, Ahmad Lawan who is a Fulani man as the consensus candidate of the party.

Adamu said he took the decision after consultation with President Buhari.

Arrewa:
Dear seun osewa!!

The north is not all about Islam!! That's where Many of u southerners are getting it wrong in first place!!

The north is not all about HausaFulani!!

We are united not just because of religious... average Fulani Christian,Hausa Christian and other northern Christian feel more carried along in the north than in the south!!

We have large number of Christians in Borno, yobe,Gombe, kebbi, and other northern States. Northern Christians speak Hausa, dress in kaftans, eat northern food, we share same culture and values!!

The only difference is that they are Christans who go to Church! Most of them even answer indigenous northern names!

Kanuri see a Hausa man as his brother...

Hausas sees Fulanis as Brothers...

Zuru see see a Bura as a brother, kanakuris see Nupe sas brother!! And so on and on!

A bura from Borno can be a governor in Kano (In the case of shekarau)

Fulani, Hausa, kanuri, nupe, bura, zuru can rule in any part of the north as long as he has the public appeal by playing his politics right!!

That cannot be said in that south even thou u are predominantly Christans!!

Tribalism is killing the south!!

Just because majority of bokoharam are kanuris we don't go about killing kanuris because of bokoharam attack in Kano!

Because majority of bandit are fulanis other northern tribes don't go about killing innocent Fulanis around them!! Calling it "reprisal"

An average northerner is not a tribalistic bigot!!

Come to Kano and see how northern tribes are living together in harmony!!

Only southerners especially the igbos isolate themselves in Sabo Gari!!

That's why we are politically united!!

We tried uniting with the south but we were subjected to inhuman act and betrayal!!

Our leaders were killed in the process!! We lost sardauna, Abubakar Tafawabelewa and Many of our leaders!

Even if we try to forgive and unite, The south will always have a reason to smear and subject the north to all sort physical and verbal attacks!!

We have over 300 tribes in the north!!

Dear seun... The south gave the north the strength and the unity it has today!!

Not just religion as u projected!!
Honestly, some people expose their ignorance at the comfort of their homes instead of embracing reality.
Despite our diversity in the North, North isn't united just by Islam but by first the extremely religious tolerance Sardaunan handled the North. Why Christianity failed to unite the South despite deceiving Yoruba Muslims with all sort of sinister and deliberate pressure on them to ewchew their religious principles amidst controversies of Hijab saga and alleged marginalisation?
Average Northern Christian see himself as Northerner first before considering the deception slogan of the so called middlebelt mantra. During our NYSC days, some Northern Christians who tried to relate to South were never well embrace and we live in harmony as brothers and sisters with our Northern Christian brethren than with Southerners.
The return of democracy and the effort of politicians to divide some Northern states along religious line to help them win election even with poor performance is responsible for creating the current religious division in the North, take Taraba for instance.
Despite having the numbers, all states with reasonable number of Christians or Muslims have a Christian Deputy Governor and vice versa inorder to show sense of belonging.
Look at the current political witch-hunt, betrayal, greed, bitterness and backstabbing among Southern politicians in both APC and PDP, it is very disappointing. Southern Nigeria can't in anyway manage the ethno-religious diversity of he North with averagely more than 30 ethnic groups in more than 5 states and more than 200 ethnic groups in the region.
Can't u imagine the bitterness, betrayal, backstabbing among SW and SE people despite more than 98% of them belonging to one ethnic group?

States of Nigeria which are generally referred to as belonging to the Middle Belt are: old Plateau (now Plateau and Nasarawa), old Gongola (now Adamawa and Taraba), Niger, Kwara, Kogi, Benue, the Federal Capital Territory, alongside Southern Kaduna, Southern Bauchi, Southern Kebbi, Southern Gombe, Southern Yobe State.

PoliticsSheikh Shuaib Agaka Imparted Islamic Knowledge On My Family – Emir Of Ilorin by ArewaNorth(op): 12:05am On Jun 07, 2022
The Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, on Monday expressed shock and grief over the death of Dr Abdulhameed Shuaib Agaka.

Alhaji Gambari recalled benefitting immensely from the late cleric’s preaching about Islam and Holy Quran.

The traditional ruler also disclosed that his mother, at a tender age, learnt about the Holy Qur’an from Agaka.

The deceased, 77 years old, was the father of PRNigeria publisher and Editor-in-Chief, Yushau Shuaib.

At his palace on Monday, Gambari told a delegation of the family led by Daudu Agaka, Alhaji Hanafi Kawu, to take solace in the departed soul’s unblemished and righteous life.

“Kwara and Nigeria have lost an iconic Islamic preacher of unrivalled acclaim. The family is synonymous with Islamic evangelism and crusade.”

“The late Abdulhameed remains one of the greatest Arabic Islamic scholars produced by the Emirate”, the monarch said.

The Chief Imam of Agaka in Ilorin died at a hospital in the state capital. He was born into the family of Imam Shuaib Saeed, a renowned Qur’anic teacher and Islamic leader.

Agaka attended School for Arabic Studies (SAS) in Kano, and Bayero University Kano (BUK), where he obtained a Ph.D in Qur’anic Morphology and Arabic Grammar.

The late Sheikh taught Arabic and Islamic Studies at Kano Educational Development Centre (KEDC) between 1971 and 1974.

He was the Head of Arabic Studies Departments at School for Arabic Studies; Women Arabic Teachers College; Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies, among others.

Chief Imam of Ilorin, Alhaji Muhammadu Bashir Solihu described Sheikh Agaka as an exemplary preacher who promoted tolerance, humility and peaceful coexistence.

Speaking on behalf of Forum of Arabic Scholars of Darul Markaz, Prof. Badmus Yusuf called the deceased a unique religious leader, who nurtured many young scholars on the true teachings of Islam.

“Dr. Shuaib Agaka was not only an author of exceptional Islamic literatures, he was a community leader and philanthropist.

“For decades, he provided scholarships and accommodation for indigent students especially in Kano”, said Yusuf, ex-Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies, UNILORIN.”

2023 presidency: Full text of Northern govs’ statement asking Buhari to pick successor from South

Northern governors serving on the platform of All Progressives Congress, APC, on Saturday urged President Muhammadu Buhari to pick his successor from the Southern part of the country.

The governor’s said it would be an honour for Buhari’s successor to come from the Southern part of the country.

In a statement they issued after their meeting, the Northern governors explained that such would foster a unity Nigeria.

They also urged all Northern presidential aspirants to step down for the Southern counterparts.

The statement was signed by 11 governors from the Northern part of the country.

See full text of the statement below…

APC governors and political leaders from the northern states of Nigeria today met to review the political situation and to further support our Party in providing progressive leadership amidst our national challenges.

During our discussions, we welcomed President Muhammadu Buhari’s invitation to governors and other stakeholders to contribute to the emergence of a strong presidential candidate for the APC.

After careful deliberation, we wish to state our firm conviction that after eight years in office of President Muhammadu Buhari, the presidential candidate of the APC for the 2023 elections should be one of our teeming members from the southern states of Nigeria.

It is a question of honour for the APC, an obligation that is not in anyway affected by the decisions taken by another political party.

We affirm that upholding this principle is in the interest of building a stronger, more united and more progressive country.

We therefore wish to strongly recommend to President Muhammadu Buhari that the search for a successor as the APC’s presidential candidate be limited to our compatriots from the southern states.

We appeal to all aspirants from the northern states to withdraw in the national interest and allow only the aspirants from the south to proceed to the primaries.
We are delighted by the decision of our esteemed colleague, His Excellency, Governor Abubakar Badaru to contribute to this patriotic quest by withdrawing his presidential aspiration.

The APC has a duty to ensure that the 2023 elections offer a nation-building moment, reaffirming that a democratic pathway to power exists for all who value cooperation and build national platforms.

This moment calls for the most sober and inclusive approach to selecting our party’s candidate, and we call on all APC leaders to fulfil their responsibility in this regard.

Signed,

10,000 pastoralists killed, 2 million displaced in seven years – MACBANPublished

Over 10,000 pastoralists were killed and over two million displaced across the country within the last seven years, the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), has said.

It made the disclosure during a security summit the group organized in collaboration with the Northern Consensus Movement (NCM) in Abuja.

The summit titled, “Exploring the contemporary challenges facing pastoralism and Fulbe, with a view to proffering workable solutions in curbing insecurity across the nation”, opined that from 2015 till date, many pastoralists were also displaced and impoverished, alleging that over four million livestock were either rustled or arbitrarily killed.

In a communique issued on Friday, the MACBAN stated that Fulani pastoralists were the worst victims following the current security challenges in the country, ranging from banditry to kidnapping and cattle rustling.

PoliticsAPC Presidential Primary: Confusion, Horse-Trading Among Govs, Aspirants’ Camps by ArewaNorth(op): 8:21am On Jun 02, 2022
Chieftains of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are in frenzy over the choice of the party’s presidential flag bearer as major stakeholders engage in horse-trading ahead of the national convention of the party slated for June 6, 7 and 8.

President Muhammadu Buhari while addressing a meeting of the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF) on Tuesday had asked the 22 governors of the party to support his bid to pick his own successor.

“In keeping with the established internal policies of the party and as we approach the convention in a few days, therefore, I wish to solicit the reciprocity and support of the governors and other stakeholders in picking my successor, who would fly the flag of our party for election into the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2023,” he told the governors during the short meeting.

Sources at the meeting said the president left the attendees in the dark regarding who his preferred choice was, creating confusion among the ranks of governors and other chieftains of the party.

Since the meeting with Buhari, the APC governors are locked in a series of meetings first with the National Chairman of the party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu and among themselves with the intent of aligning their position towards agreeing on a consensus arrangement.

Daily Trust gathered that the primary interest of most of the governors is to have the next president emerge from their crop though that position is being countered by those pushing the candidacy of persons that are not governors at present.

Five sitting governors are in the race for the party’s ticket. They are Yahaya Bello (Kogi), Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), David Umahi (Ebonyi), Ben Ayade (Cross River) and Badaru Abubakar (Jigawa).

But despite the number of the governors in the race, the majority of their colleagues are rooting for candidates from outside their crops.

With Buhari finally declaring interest in who succeeds him, after months of waiting and speculations, the permutations are said to be changing with stakeholders holding meetings to strategise on how to win the president’s endorsement for their candidates.

Presidential aides and members of the president’s family are said to be lobbied by all aspirants to help market them to the president before he takes a final decision on the matter.

Insider sources said Buhari was weighing options with support from a small team of persons close to him led by his nephew, Malam Mamman Daura.

But the intense lobby, Daily Trust gathered, is polarising the Presidency and persons close to the president who are pitching their tents in the camps of different aspirants.

There were speculations on Wednesday from different camps with promoters who were upbeat about Buhari’s endorsement of their respective principals.

Sources in the power cycle in Abuja made claims and counter-claims about having the nod of the president for the ticket.

A section of the Presidency rooting for erstwhile Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, was said to be hopeful that with the exit of former President Goodluck Jonathan from the race, the coast was now clear for their man.

Daily Trust gathered that Amaechi’s men at the Presidency, who had paired him up with a former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, were making last minute push for the former Rivers governor who twice headed Buhari’s presidential campaign. Amaechi is known to be close to the influential Personal Assistant of the president, Sabiu Abdullahi (alias Tunde).

But a chieftain of the APC close to a former Lagos State Governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, said they were hopeful of the Buhari’s endorsement as they were assured by persons close to the president.

At least two persons close to the president are known to be rooting for Tinubu. They are Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu and Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Duties, Alhaji Yau Darazo. Darazo had participated in Tinubu’s campaign trips to some states including the last trip to Cross River on Wednesday.

Tinubu is also believed to have the majority of the APC governors on his side.

The campaign team of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has also remained hopeful of the president’s endorsement and counting on some powerful persons in the presidency for the final push.

The Osinbajo team is said to be buoyed by recent warming up to the vice president by the president’s nephew, Sabiu Abdullahi.

Promoters of the Senate President Ahmad Lawan were also confident that their man would get the coveted support of the president.

Lawan’s aspiration is said to be having the backing of Buhari’s older nephew Mamman Daura.

As of the time of filing this report, party caucuses, groups of governors and campaign structures were holding different meetings ahead of Buhari’s return to the country on Friday. The president is expected to meet again with the governors and other stakeholders to unveil his preferred choice on his return.

The ruling party’s major dilemma, according to insiders, was how to navigate the tight rope of tabling an acceptable candidate without having an implosion within its ranks.

PoliticsFLASHBACK: How Atiku Kicked Against Anti-open Grazing Laws by ArewaNorth(op): 8:08am On Jun 02, 2022
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, had on January 31, 2019 kicked against the open grazing prohibition and ranches establishment law enacted in some States across the country.

Atiku, who was answering questions on a talkshow “The Candidates” a month before the 2019 general elections, said the law was unconstitutional and infringed on the rights of Fulani herdsmen to freedom of movement and residence across the country.

The presidential candidate of the main opposition party declared that the law cannot be upheld.

He said, “We have to look at the constitutionality of those laws. I’m not sure whether they come with the provisions of our constitution which guarantees freedom of movement, the right to reside wherever you want in the country and so on, and so forth. So we have to look at that.

“The constitution does not restrict the movement of people in Nigeria, so any law that restricts people from moving freely and doing their legitimate business can’t be upheld”.

DAILY POST reports that some of the governors who signed the prohibition bill into law in their various States are currently supporting Atiku to emerge as next Nigerian President.

Apart from Benue State in the North Central, about seven States in the Southern part of the country, including Lagos have enacted the law.

Ekiti State signed the anti-open grazing bill into law in 2016, it allows for at least six months imprisonment for defaulters.

Abia State also signed its own in 2018, while Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri signed the bill into law in March 2021, stating that the target is to stop incessant clashes between herdsmen and farmers in the State.

Recall also that the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike signed the bill into law in August 2021.

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel while signing the anti-open grazing law in September 2021, said open grazing had affected the development of the State.

Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi also signed the bill on September 15, 2021.

Meanwhile, Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State and his Rivers State counterpart, Nyesom Wike have vowed to support Atiku’s presidential ambition and ensure he succeeds President Muhammadu Buhari.
